  • QuickTime Unavailable Pop-Up

I have a problem with a pop-up that is titled "QuickTime Unavailable" and it goes on to say "The QuickTime Plug-in requires the QuickTime System extension version 5 or later". I don't understand this because I have downloaded QuickTime 7.2 a couple of times because I kept getting the pop-up. Anybody have any ideas? I really could use a couple of ideas besides my idea of drop kicking my computer next time I get that pop-up.
FYI: I'm running QT on a Dell Inspiron 1705 with Windows XP.
    Thanks for your time,
    Dan Evans

I found the fix for this here in another thread. I wish I could remember the name of it. It is simple, just need to check 2 settings. I am sorry I don't remember more. WAIT!!! I found it, the thread is: 'Foxfire Quicktime plug-in issue' by Tennisknight > Jmurphy77 > Jacumba. Jacumba's post has the info. Good luck

  • Quicktime Failed To Initialize (Error 2096) Quicktime unavailable!?!

I Have An Old 4th generation 40 gig ipod and a dell e521 pc. I have only recently had internet access, before I typed everything by hand onto my itunes program on my computer. I Want to buy a new ipod classic, but I'm Not sure if it would have been compatible with my outdated itunes program. So I Tried to download the newest verision of itunes and I Thought it was sucessfull, but after I Restarted my computer and attempted to open the newly downloaded itunes, I keep getting this error message that reads Quicktime Unavailable: Quicktime failed to initialize (error 2096)!?! i thought quicktime and itunes were being downloaded together. what am I Doing wrong? Thaks.

I had opened the QuickTime FOLDER Properties and the iTunes FOLDER Properties, which is why I did not see a Compatability tab. When I went into the folders, then into the files, I found that QuickTime was not set to Compatability Mode, but iTunes was set to run compatable with Windows 95. I unchecked the box. It appears that iTunes will now launch on my computer.
Thanks very much. You have brought some joy to my day.

  • Quicktime Unavailable Error

I was running iTunes 9 on my PC and it said there was a new version. So i went to the Apple website and downloaded the new iTunes 10 with Quicktime for Windows. I ran the setup file and it said my installation was finished. I tried to run iTunes after that but iTunes keeps showing the error "Quicktime Unavailable : Quicktime was not found. Quicktime is required to run iTunes. Please uninstall iTunes, then install iTunes again." I have tried this multiple times with the same result everytime. Please help! It was working perfectly before and now its not. Also whenever the error message showed up the first time I clicked on the Quicktime shortcut on my desktop and it ran fine.

I have same issue. Called support twice. Works after install once and then get same Quicktime Unavailable error again and again. Uninstalled and installed several times. If anyone knows a fix it would be greatly appreciated.

  • Quicktime Unavailable in FireFox ?

I am running Windows XP Prof... and FireFox 1.5.0.7. Whenever I go to a site that requires quicktime I get the following error:
    QuickTime Unavailable
The QuickTime Plug-In requires the QuickTime System extension version 5 or later.
    QuickTime is available from http://www.apple.com/quicktime.
I uninstalled and re-installed QT 7.1.3 and still the same error.

I don't see anywhere in FirefoxforWindows/Options to enable QuickTIme.

  • "QuickTime Unavailable" message

Recently I found it impossible to access videos on various websites such as 'The Huffington Post, 'New Scientist', and so forth. When I try to access a video on these sites I get the following message:
The QuickTime Plug-in requires the Quicktime System
    extension version 5 or later.
Then it directs me to acquire QuickTime through your website. To make matters worse, the message keeps reappearing periodically and continuously whether or not I am trying to access a video and regardless of what application I am in.
I have uninstalled the old version on QuickTime and downloaded and installed version 7 for Windows XP. The problem persists.
Is the QuickTime System extension version 5 something separate from QuickTime Player that I have to download separately?
Is there a fix for this problem?

The instruction at 0x10001040 referenced memory at 0x10001040. The memory could not be "read".
that one typically means you've got a broken QuickTime. if we can get your QT functional again, your itunes should launch.
just doublechecking a couple of things before proceeding.
are you getting this when you install on your Server 2003?
if so, what error message do you get if you try a standalone QT 7.1 install?
    Quicktime 7.1 Standalone Installer
is the error message a 0x80040707?

  • 64-bit version of Quicktime for Windows

I'm running 64-bit version of Windows 7 via bootcamp.  I'm running 64-bit version of Microsoft Office 2010.  I have the latest version of Quicktime installed 7.7.3 something.  I can play the file on the desktop no problem, but when I try to insert the file into Powerpoint or play a file that I inserted previously into Powerpoint on a different system, it says either Quicktime unavailable or you need a 64-bit version of Quicktime in order to insert the file.
So, exactly where is a 64-bit version of Quicktime for Windows because apparently the one on the Apple website for Windows is not 64-bit.  Everyone keeps saying download the 64-bit version of Quicktime.  Great, tell me where it is.  There is no option for 64-bit on the website.  It doesn't even say it is 64-bit.  It just says its compatible with Windows 7.  Powerpoint 2010 64-bit MUST have a 64-bit version of Quicktime in order to insert or play any Quicktime file.  The OS doesn't give a rats @ss one way or the other.
The file I previously inserted was playing on a system that apparently had a 32-bit version of Powerpoint installed.  That machine defaults to VLC player on the desktop.  It has no issues with the file.  It's the Quicktime Player mismatch on my machine that is giving me grief.  If I knew Office was going to be a PITA if I installed the 64-bit version I would have stuck with the 32-bit version.
Ideas?  Where is the 64-bit version?  How do you tell it is 64-bit?  How do you force the installer to make sure it ONLY installs a 64-bit version of it?

If Microsoft merely off their own decided that only a 64-bit version of QuickTime was going to be supported by them and did not both checking such a beast existed then this is perfectly believable behavior on the part of Microsoft and they should roast in **** for it.
If Apple led Microsoft to believe that a 64-bit version of QuickTime was going to be released like a 64-bit version of iTunes for Windows has been released but then backed out then this is equally believeable behaviour on the part of Apple and then equally the guilty parties at Apple should roast in ****.
It should be noted that the 64-bit version of iTunes is able to play videos via the 32-bit version of QuickTime. This suggests Microsoft programmers are weak with the force. This would tend to support my theory that Microsoft despite being the biggest software company in the world are better at making hardware than software.
Moving on to trying to be more constructive…
Clearly as things stand using the existing and only official version of QuickTime for Windows which is 32-bit only is not going to work in 64-bit Office. It might therefore be worth looking at trying the following.
Uninstall completely Apple's 32-bit QuickTime for Windows (if installed currently)
Install QuickTime Alternative - see http://www.free-codecs.com/download/QuickTime_Alternative.htm
I have no idea if QuickTime Alternative is 64-bit, I have no idea if it will work in 64-bit Office even if it is 64-bit. However it does work in Internet Explorer for Windows, it is free and therefore will cost you nothing to try. If it does not work you can then always uninstall it.
As another even more abtruse solution, you could try loading your PowerPoint file in to the free iWorks i.e. KeyNote via a free iCloud account. It will allow importing PowerPoint files and will even work in Internet Explorer.

  • Quicktime won't delete

I have a brand new computer and running Vista. My problem is every webpage I go to, i get a pop-up saying "Quicktime plug-in requires the quicktime system extension version 5 or later". When I click ok, it brings me to a Quicktime upgrade site from Apple Computers. I tried to delete it, I used regedit command and deleted all things saying apple or quicktime. restart the compuer and still gets the pop-up, but this time at the top of the pop-up, it says Quicktime Unavailable. I installed Quicktime and itunes, quicktime alone . I been trying to delete this a month. PLEASE HELP IF YOU CAN.

  • Cannot get QuickTime to run after Installing latest update.

After going through install and final "FINISH" window appears and "OK'ed".
Try to launch QuickTime, get QuickTime Unavailable window with RED X, and message "QuickTime failed to initialise. Error # -2096, Please make sure QuickTime is properly installed on this computer."
Does anyone have an idea what could be the problem?

The following document is probably worth a shot with that one. (Make sure that none of the checkboxes are filled in the compatibility tab, not just the compatibility mode box itself.)

  • Itunes wont open - compatibility error...

this didnt seem to work so for first time in ages ran the itunes updater. I can no longer open itunes and get the following error.
    Quicktime unavailable
itunes requires Windows 2000 or later
Please make sure compatibility mode is disbaled in the compatibility tab of the properties of itunes.exe
well....I tried to do this (I am not massively IT literate!), have tried selecting or deselecting compatibility on this tab....and still wont open....any ideas?
    im on windows XP professional.
    cheers in advance

    hiya!
if I find the mp3 file on my hardrive and move it to ipod manually it still doesnt appear when I disconnect.
that's normal. for the ipod to recognise a song it needs to be transferred to the ipod via itunes rather than dragged and dropped with Windows Explorer. see the note at the end of this article:
iPod: Operating System or iTunes Reports the Disk is Full, But It Does Not Look Full
... try resetting the warnings on your ipod and trying another manual sync:

do you get an error message show up after resetting warnings?

  • I have one error with itunes (error -2096)

...and it does not open. The error says:
    QuickTime Unavailable
QuickTime is required to run itunes. Please reinstall itunes
I have reinstall itunes a lot of times, I have the last version available for download, the QuickTime works. I don’t know what’s happening

Try and use Microsoft's Cleanup Utility and then reinstall Quicktime/iTunes:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301
Make sure it's a new and fresh download from:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
See if any of these help:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=302538
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=302386
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=302775
If not mentioned in the articles, make a new user account in Windows and see if iTunes opens. That will tell you if there's something funky in your main account (if the new user works), or if you have a system-wide issue.
