I installed perian, flip 4 mac and microsogt silverlight so I can watch the mlb games online on my macbook, now it won't let me open quicktime or itunes, this is the report:

You are having the same problem as dozens of others, I included. There are many other threads out there that provide some suggestions. Try them, it may work for you, but as for me so far none of them have worked. I'm hoping that "Raquel" will soon figure it out, Apple sure hasn't. Apple should never have released such a horrible and untested piece of software. Good luck, don't give up.

I think we'd better see if some other application (other than QuickTime itself) has dropped old QuickTime componentry in the system files on the PC. (If there's a version mismatch between the old componentry and the "QuickTime proper" componentry, that can create those error-message-free launch failures for both iTunes and the QuickTime Player.)
So we'll go looking for the older QuickTime componentry in the most common locations for it to be stashed.
First we'll need to change some view options on the PC.
1. Open My Computer from the desktop or Start menu.
2. In the Tools menu, click Folder Options.
3. Click the View tab.
4. In the "Advanced settings" pane under "Hidden files and folders" make sure that the "Show hidden files and folders" option is selected, and the "Hide extensions for known file types" option is unchecked.
5. Click OK.
Now in My Computer, open your C drive.
Open the "Windows" folder.
Open the "system32" folder.
What files and/or folders can you see in there with QuickTime in the file/folder name? (In a standard installation of QuickTime, you should see precisely two files ... QuickTime.qts and QuickTimeVR.qtx ... and no QuickTime folders whatsoever.) -

I upgraded to the new itunes 6.0 and quicktime.
and now both wont open.
Quicktime opens for 2 seconds and then closes.
And thats making my itunes not work since quicktime cant open.

Quicktime wont open and is also preventing microsoft apps from opening
after doing an autoupdate to QT 7.2, there is a "shared library error" that prevents me from opening word, entourage... i have tried to fix this, but its made it worse and now the QT wont run either. is there a way that i can uninstall all the QT on my hard drive and reinstall from scratch? and will this fix the shared library problem?
when i look to see what version QT i have it says 7.3, but it wont open and i have also try to download it again and that doesnt work either.

Now, when I switch-ON my mac with the installation disc-1 (that originally came with the computer) in it, it takes me to the basic installation window. This further leads to the same issue I mentioned in my earlier post...that is when I get to the "Select a destination volume to install the Mac OS X software" screen, there's no destination listed to select. Earlier there was "Macintosh HD" but now there's nothing.
While I was exploring my options at this time, I clicked on "Disk Utility" under the "utilities" tab on top of the screen. This took me to the disk utility window that had four discs listed in the left-hand column of the window. These were: 74.5 GB TOSHIBA MK8026GAX, Macintosh HD (in light grey colour which shows that it is inactive), 4.0 GB MATSHITA DVD-R Uj-845E Media and the Mac OS X Install Disc 1.
Under the "First Aid" tab I selected 74.5 GB TOSHIBA MK8026GAX and clicked "verify". It gave an error message:"Invalid node structure. The volume Macintosh HD needs to be repaired. The underlying task reported failure on exit. 1 HFS Checked Volume needs repair."
Then I selected Macintosh HD & selected "repair" only to find the following error message:
Invaild node structure. Rebuilding Catalogue B-tree. The volume Macintosh HD could not be repaired. Error: The underlying task reported failure on exit. 1 HFS volume checked. 1 volume could not be repaired because of an error. Repair attempted on 1 volume. 1 volume could not be repaired.
The other two icons "Verify disk permissios" & "Repair disk permissions" were inactive all the time.
I even clicked on "Mount" when the "Macintosh HD" was selected. That gave the following message: "The disk Macintosh HD could not be mounted. Try running First Aid on the disk and then retry mounting."
I don't know what's happening, do you have any idea?

Quicktime Wont Open! no error message
Im operating on Windows XP but when i open quicktime it wont run it simply pops up for a secound and vanishes there is also no error message. This is also stoping me from running my itunes. I recently tired to to this in safe mode and it works there, however i cant add songs while in safe mode so it defeats the purpose. is there something blocking quicktime (no virus or spyware protection running) or is it just my version of XP? please help?

ChrisIn recent times, the error-message-free iTunes and QuickTime launch failures have been indicating that another application has stashed old QuickTime componentry in your system files. (Those sorts of applications often use the Visual C++ runtimes to keep track of the componentry, so it seems consistent that an update to those could cause the symptoms to flare up on a PC.)
So just in case we'll go looking for older QuickTime componentry in the most common locations for it to be stashed.
First we'll need to change some view settings.

Itunes and Quicktime wont open!

My itunes randomly stopped working the other day. Everytime i open it a message appears saying that there was a problem and it needs to close! i removed itunes and tried to reinstall it but now it wont reinstall. I figured quicktime might be the problem so i tried to remove it too but it wont remove from my computer and i dont know what to do now :-/ anyone able to help me??In recent times, the error-message-free iTunes and QuickTime launch failures have been indicating that another application has stashed old QuickTime componentry in your system files. (Those sorts of applications often use the Visual C++ runtimes to keep track of the componentry, so it seems consistent that an update to those could cause the symptoms to flare up on a PC.)
So just in case we'll go looking for older QuickTime componentry in the most common locations for it to be stashed.
First we'll need to change some view settings.
In your Start menu, open Computer.
In your Organise menu, select Folder Options.
In the View tab, make sure that "Show hidden files and folders" is selected, and Hide extensions for known file types is unchecked.
Click OK.
Now in Computer, open your C:\ drive (or whichever drive you have your operating system installed on).
Open the "Windows" folder.
If you have a 32-bit Windows 7, open the "System32" folder.

hello i just install snow leopard, and it seems that it did not istalled ok, and when tried to open quicktime it wont do anything
Have you updated it by downloading the Combo updater.

Both itunes and quicktime wont open!
so its been a few days and my itunes has not opened.
a message keeps popping up that says::
itunes has encountered an needs to close...send//dont send error report.on some topics i read that the problem may be quicktime-related, so i tried opening up my quicktime player. however, that would not open either!
i dont want to uninstall itunes because i dont want to lose my music, and im afraid to uninstall quicktime because i dont know if i have the program to reinstall it later on.
someone help!

here's how to do a careful standalone reinstall of QuickTime:
download and save a copy of the QT 7.1 standalone installer to your hard drive. (we'll run the install from there rather than online.) switch off antivirus and antispyware applications prior to the install.

if that install goes through okay, does your itunes launch properly again?
(if you get an error message on the QT standalone reinstall, let us know what it says. include error message numbers if you're getting any.)

This may have been covered, however, I can't seem to find an answer. I have a new Mac Book Pro with QT 7.1.6, and it will not play mov files. It will play ever other file type, I've installed every third party codec and reader from the quicktime third party resource page and still nothing. Any suggestions?
The trailors work, all quicktime seems fine online. I am a video producer and none of my mov files from any of my final cut pro projects will play video, audio yes, but not video. Which is a significant problem to say the least considering my line of work. Any help would be awsome, thanks.

QuickTime 10 wont open/respond
My QT will not respond, I don't have the sligest clue as to what happend. I am curently using the latest software update Mac OS X Lion 10.7.4 . Have anyone out there have this type of issue? If so could you be kind to tell ma how you fix it? Thanks .

what's the precise text of the error message you get when you try to uninstall quicktime? include error message numbers if you're getting any. -
Macbook pro runs slow and itunes wont open
My macbook pro froze and went to a black screen while I was using quicktime so I forced shut down and rebooted and now it runs really slow and itunes and quicktime wont open. I am completely updated
Your MBP should be able to accept 6 GB RAM. I suggect that you install the maximum. Yosemite should run more efficiently as a result.
I note that you have Novatel and Sierra wireless installed. If you do not need one, delete it.

Can't Get iTunes or Quicktime to open up
Help... I have no idea what's happened, but suddenly my PC won't open up iTunes or Quicktime. When I click on it, it takes about a minute then gives me what looks like a windows error that says "iTunes has encountered an error and needs to close".
I have removed and re-installed BOTH iTunes and Quicktime, but I keep getting the same message. Any ideas out there what I can do to open up iTunes?Same problem here. Both iTunes and Quicktime wont open up anymore. Quicktime started off by saying "buffer underun problem, cannot open executable file." or something similar. So I removed it, and installed the newest version. Now BOTH iTunes and Quicktime say there is a problem with the program and I will be notified if there is a solution.

Im having issues... icons of both iTunes and quictime are on my desktop... when i try to open iTunes it says "iTunes has encountered and problem and needs to close".
i removed it... and tried reinstalling it iTunes+quicktime then it tells me that it has encountered an error because quicktime has encountered a fatal error, no error code. quictime wont delete it, it says "Fatal error in installation". yet quicktime wont open at all not message no nothing.
I dont know what to do.

the problems arise when the Codec Packs contain QuickTime codecs (and other componentry) for an earlier version of QuickTime than the minimum version of QuickTime required to run your iTunes version.
the iTunes 7.1.x versions require at least a QT 7.1.5 (up from a QT 7.1.3 with the iTunes 7.0.x versions), and so we've been getting a new round of the Codec Packs business.
so, the first thing we should try is uninstalling the Codec Pack. (sometimes a little more effort is required is required afyer this with one of these ... but it's the best thing to try first.)
does QuickTime (and iTunes) start launching again?
if not, are you at least now able to uninstall and reinstall your QuickTime?
