Quit all open dock applications at once?

Is there a way to quit all open dock applications at once? I find it time-consuming to go in and quit applications I have used in the dock one at a time.
May be I don't understand why they even stay open after I quit what I was doing with them? Is it possible to set it up that way? I find it is not very Mac-like
to have to go in and quit 5 or 6 items in the dock one at a time. Can you please shed some light on this for me? Thank you for your time and patience.

No, but there is an alternative.
Press command+tab to show the application switcher. While keeping the command key held down, you can press q on a selected application to quit it. The only one you can't quit is the Finder (as this is the application that shows you your Desktop).

  • How to quit all open applications/windows?

I have had Leopard since Halloween. How can I quit/close all open windows/applications in one fell swoop rather than go through the Dock and quit/close each one separately?

An easier way might be to do an Option , Command, Escape ... and force quit all the apps.
At least you would know for sure what is open .... rather than relying on the semi invisible dock indicator ...
Probably faster too ... unless there is some issue about force quitting that I'm not aware of ...
You would want to quit all open apps on any software update, installation .. or when you're running something like Cocktail and cleaning your caches ....

Is it possible to use Autmoator to quit all open apps?
I'm looking for either a script, or a utility, that will quit all the apps I have open at one keystroke (apart from hitting the shutdown button)
The "FunKeys" utility used to do this, but it's not compatible with Intel Macs.
    Any help greatly appreciated, thanks.

You can use the following AppleScript in a "Run AppleScript" action and save it off as a Finder plug-in to give you a contextual menu.
I have put in a test to prevent Script Editor from being quit. That could be removed if you need it to be.
click here to open this script in your editor<pre style="font-family: 'Monaco', 'Courier New', Courier, monospace; overflow:auto; color: #222; background: #DDD; padding: 0.2em; font-size: 10px; width:400px">tell application "System Events"

repeat with i from 1 to count of theProcesses
set thisProcess to item i of theProcesses
if (thisProcess is not equal to "Script Editor") and (thisProcess is not equal to "Finder") then

    end if
    end repeat

  • SQLDEV 1.5.5: disconnecting from one db, quits all open editing windows

    Hi,
i noticed that in SQL Developer 1.5.5 for Mac OS X, when i disconnect an open connection using the context menu, SQL developer quits all open editor windows even if they are open against different connections.
The windows remain open only if there are unsaved changes and i am asked if i want to save the changes or cancel the operation.
I believe this happened also on 1.5.4, although i could not verify it now.

    K,
I understand exactly. When you are connected as a user and have a number of reports, worksheets and other editors open and then disconnect, the reports stay open (we have a preference to control this) and the worksheets stay open ( we have a preference to control this) , but everything else closes. That is because there is no preference and the default behavior is to close the editors. This is as designed. This is a feature that is not implemented and as such is an enhancement request and not a bug. It's still in 2.1 EA1, because we have not yet addressed it. There is no enhancement in our bug database for it. There is a bug that was addressed some years back to ensure that on disconnect the PL/SQL Editors are automatically closed.

  • Encrypting a USB jump drive / Quitting all open applications

    Hi,
    Two quick questions...
    1) I want to password encrypt my USB jump drive so that I am the only one who can get to it's content. I know how to do this using Toast for a cd or dvd. Is it possible?
    2) Is there a command to have all open applications quit?
    Thanks,
    Gary

Get a copy of Truecrypt. It will do what you want, and have the bonus of being compatible with Windows.

  • An easy way to quit all multi-tasked apps at once?

Running the SpeedTest app here in Japan I noticed the 3G data speeds improved dramatically (especially upload speeds) after one-by-one quitting all my multi-tasked apps and then restarting SpeedTest by itself.
I had like 20+ apps going at the time. Most of them were probably not contributing to the problem, but still, I don't know which ones.
Anyway, my question is, is there an easy way to force all the apps in the multi-task drawer to quit without one-by-one holding each icon down and pressing the "-" mark?
    Thanks,
    doug

That's an informative article, Johnathan. Thanks.
It still doesn't quite explain what I was seeing though.
With all the apps in the hidden dock my 3G data speeds were incomprehensibly slow. Doing a full restart didn't help. This is a critical point.
Yet when I got rid of all the entries in the hidden dock my 3G data speeds went up to somewhat respectable speeds again. In particular, what appeared to be an upload cap of 64 kbps disappeared and I was seeing upload speeds of about 800 kbps using SpeedTest.
So how to explain that? Just coincidence? Could it be that since that some apps, when the iPhone restarts, do start doing some things in the background again?
There should be some logical explanation for what I am seeing.
And I guess the answer to my original question is there is no way to remove all the apps in the hidden doc at once, is there?
    Thanks,

  • How do I change Illustrator doc. window settings from maximizing all open minimized files at once?

In Illustrator CS6 preferences I can't figure out how to change my settings for document windows.
I have the untabbed documnets un checked, I do not want to use tabbed documents.
I work with several ai. floating docs at one so I have them minimized in my dock (on a Mac).
When I click on one to work with all the minimized docs  maximize, it's so annoying! Is there a way to stop this?
    Thanks,

If you did edit >> preferences >> (uncheck) open documents as tabs, and the windows are floating, then you minimize each, then clicking quiclly and letting go in dock shoudl maximize one at a time.
I do seem to have found a bug. if I have 3 docs minimized in dock, create a new documnet, then i get 2 open windows.
    Did you update to 16.04?

  • Uninstalling all Creative Cloud applications at once?

I have a lab of 20 machines with Adobe CC installed on them. I need to uninstall all programs related to the Adobe CC suite. I do not want to uninstall each program one at a time on each machine. Is there an uninstaller exe or a script that can help me out?  I have net support manager to help me somewhat remotely do things. I am not the admin i just get assign to refresh labs.

    Windows
Open the Windows Control Panel > Programs and Features
Choose an app and click Uninstall/Change
    Follow on-screen instructions
Im assuming you are referring to this as the uninstall process. This still requires me to uninstall each application individually.
I would like to unistall all highlighted programs.

  • Assistance with my script to find all opened windows (applications running) on remote computer

    Hello,
I have the following script whereby I want to list all the running (opened) applications on a remote computer.  It's a shared computer between two people who use the same generic ID.  Before one RDP's into it, I thought it would be interesting
to see if any apps are opened before logging in.
    Here is the code:
    $cred = Get-Credential
    Invoke-Command -ComputerName server123 {Get-Process *mail* | Where {$_.MainWindowHandle} | Select Name,MainWindowTitle} -Cred $cred
It works in that it asks for my credentials and runs without any error...but this script also does not display any running applications. I'm not sure what it should show. Perhaps I need to add a line of code to display what it found?
Another bit of info I would like to use in this script is to also confirm that the generic ID is logged in at the time I run this script.  I could use the following bit of code:
    get-wmiobject Win32_ComputerSystem -computername server123 | format-table -property username
But when I run this code I get an access denied message. I'm assuming I need to use the Get-Credential again from my first script, but I'm unsure how to use it in the get-wmiobject?
Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you.

Ok...shifting gears again.  Instead of running this remotely I'm thinking of running a scheduled task on the server and creating this .htm file.  That way no one has to run and enter in credentials (and if entered wrong cause issues with locking
out the account).  So, I've modified my script and confirmed that when I run it from Powershell when logged into the server, the results file correctly shows the logged in userid and the running applications (windows) I have opened.
But, when I run this same exact script from my task scheduler, the running applications piece is blank?  The server I'm running this on is Windows Server 2008.  I've tried running it from Task Scheduler using Powershell and from a .bat file that
calls my Powershell script.  Both ways results in my .htm file not showing any applications running.  Yet when I run the same script (either from Powershell or the .bat file) the .htm file correctly shows the running applications.  My Task Scheduler
Job is using the same user id that I'm logged in with so there shouldn't be any permission issues with running from the task scheduler.
    Here is my code:
    $a = "<style>"
    $a = $a + "BODY{background-color:peachpuff;}"
    $a = $a + "TABLE{border-width: 1px;border-style: solid;border-color: black;border-collapse: collapse;}"
    $a = $a + "TH{border-width: 1px;padding: 0px;border-style: solid;border-color: black;background-color:thistle}"
    $a = $a + "TD{border-width: 1px;padding: 0px;border-style: solid;border-color: black;background-color:PaleGoldenrod}"
    $a = $a + "</style>"
    get-wmiobject Win32_ComputerSystem | ConvertTo-HTML -head $a -body "<H2>Logged in UserID</H2>" -property username | Out-File C:\Powershell_Scripts\Test.htm ; Get-Process |where {$_.mainWindowTItle} |Select-Object name,mainwindowtitle | ConvertTo-HTML -head $a -body "<H2>Open Applications</H2>" | Out-File C:\Powershell_Scripts\Test.htm -Append
Can anyone tell me what might be the reason for the script running from the scheduled task having issues?
    Thank you.

  • How can you minimize all open pdf files at once in Acrobat 10?

My company just switched us to Acrobat 10 from 6.  Now if I have a number of pdf files open I have to minimize each of them individually.  Before all you did was click the minimize button and the program just minimized to the taskbar.  How do you do that in Acrobat 10?  The Help link is of no use in the program.  Maybe this can't be done any longer.  If not, pretty stupid.

Use the menu Window > Minimize All Windows

  • Quitting ALL applications

I know this is probably really simple, but I want a script that will quit all open applications. I monitor multiple labs and this would make my life so much easier.
Thanks for any help you can give.

    Use a script such as:
    tell application "System Events"
set the_processes to (name of every process whose visible is true)
    end tell
    repeat with this_process in the_processes
if this_process is not in {"Script Editor", "Finder", "Dock", "SystemUIServer", "loginwindow", "UniversalAccess"} then
    tell application this_process
    quit
    end tell
    end if
    end repeat
Some GUI applications should not be quit, such as loginwindow, which keeps all other GUI processes open.

  • Quitting all Applications Before Logoff

I am the System Admin for our home computer, and I have noticed that most of my family can't seem to remember either the key combination for the Application Switcher, or what applications they have open when they want to logoff. So I am trying to write a script to help them. I need to find all open applications, close all their windows, then exit those applications.
I'm just beginning to work with Applescript, and I'm not sure how to determine which applications are running. Is there a way to tell the Application Switcher to quit all open applications except the Finder?

if TheEditedList is {} then return
    repeat with AppName in TheEditedList
    try
    tell application AppName to quit

    log errmess -- skip it
    end try
    end repeat</pre>

  • What happens if i don't quit all my applications?

I've heard it's necessary to quit every application before putting the computer to sleep of shutting it off.
Is this true, and what happens if you don't?

You don't have to. Nothing happens if you don't. It's much easier to go back to what you were doing before you put the Mac to sleep by not having to relaunch your apps.
    No harm done.
It is best to quit all open apps before shutting your Mac down, but not sleep.

  • HT201412 I have updated IOS6 software today and after this, one of the application "Tamil Daily Calendar" by iAvadana Labs quits when open. Need support

I have updated with new IOS6 softward today and after this one of the application "Tamil Daily Calendar" of iAvatna Labs not working. It quits while opening the application.

If it's just the one app, try deleting it from the phone and re-installing it. If that doesn't fix it, contact the app developer for assistance. It may not be fully compatible with iOS 6.

  • Quit all running programs...

Is there a one-click way to quit all currently running applications? Like if I want to run Disk utility and repair permissions without re-starting, or if I just want to close all open programs for the fun of it. Thanks.

    Peter,
You might look into a freeware app called QaLL. It offers a one-click option to quit all running applications, along with a one-click option to relaunch those same apps that were open prior to QaLL's quitting them. Another one to check out would be Quit Anything.
If you'd like to create your own application, copy the script below and paste it into your Script Editor (located in your AppleScript folder). Compile it and save it under File Format as an application, leaving all Options unchecked. You can double-click on it from the Desktop or launch it from the Dock:
*tell application "System Events" to set the_apps to name of every application process whose visible is true and name is not "Finder"*
    *repeat with each_app in the_apps*
    *tell application each_app to quit*
    *end repeat*
    Good luck!
