Quiz freeze

HI
Hi created a quiz using captivate 8, random quiz slides pulling in questions from a pool. I wanted to show the if the question was answered correct or incorrect but without having the user to click or press 'y' so I used a method suggested on this forum whereby I removed the feedback and then show a graphic based on correct or incorrect responses, using slide quiz actions. All works well Except now and again the quiz just freezes and you cant move on. Sometimes it does it randomly and will always do it if you hit submit without answering a question. I saw on some other discussion that the success action and last attempt action should be move to next slide, but I'm using this to show the correct /incorrect graphic. If I use an advanced action to show and move to next slide, it moves too quickly and you don't see the feedback. Any ideas please?
thanks
a

That is not freezing of the slides, probably you have an inactive portion on the slide that is too long, and the user has to wait. Sometimes replacing 'Continue' as action on Success/Failure by 'Go to Next Slide' can cause problems. An alternative is to drag the pausing point on the timeline closer to the end of the slide (only way, you cannot time it in the Properties panel) and leave the actions to 'Continue'.

  • Quiz freezing up (Captivate 6)

I am having a quiz freezing up on me in Captivate 6.  I have cleared the cache and still it freezes up.  It freezes on random slides.   I am only previewing the quiz in the web browser and have not published it to the LMS.  I have another project that works fine.
    Thank you,
    Christie

    Lilybiri,
Thank you for the response.  When I am previewing the quiz (F12), it will allow me to take the quiz but it will freeze in random places.  This quiz has 30 random question slides from a pool of 51 questions.  At the end of the quiz I have a retake button and review quiz.  Please let me know if you think I should recreate this quiz.
Thank you for your blog, it has helped me a lot.

  • Quiz Freezes in Captivate 4

    Hi,
I'm running into an issue with Captivate 4.  I created a 20 question quiz which uses the question pool to randomly sort the order.  When I either preview it or publish the quiz, as I run through the quiz, it freezes.
What happens is, after I select the submit button, it gives me the feedback caption.  When I click anywhere to continue, the caption disappears then the slide freezes.  It doesn't proceed to the next question.  Also, it's not consistent, each time I run the quiz it freezes at different points.
When I take these questions out of the pool, the quiz runs fine.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    eLearnDude

I have done a couple of things to get it working like I have separated all of the different quiz type questions into separate pools and pull random questions from each pool. I have also stopped using the multiple choice slides with single correct answer only (this was from David) although I feel it defeats the usability of the quiz module in Captivate if you cant use all of the different types. But for this one I just need to get it out.
I will have to go back and do some testing with other types later to see if it is just that one type causing the issues or if it was the fact I had them all in one pool instead of splitting them up into different ones.
I did received feed back from Adobe and they just said "Most likely cause is a corrupted file" rebuild the file. since half of the people in my test group did not have issues and some did I don't believe the file was corrupted.

  • Captivate 7 quiz freeze

    Hello,
I have a 10 question quiz (all questions are mulitple choice from a quiz pool) that freezes up in random locations once it is uploaded to our LMS (Blackboard). I have this problem when I upload it as SCORM 1.2 or 2004.
I've made several modifications to the quiz based on discussions on this board but the quiz is still "freezing".
All Random question slide Action for success and last attempt is set to go to the next slide
All slides are set to .5 seconds and I've pushed the pause as close to the end of each slide timeline possible.
    Report Answers checkbox is checked
When I leave the play bar available during the quiz you can see that the quiz "runs out" of play bar.
    Quiz preference:
Completion Critera I have checked Quiz and selected Quiz is Passed. The quiz is set for a passing grade at 90%.
Check marked Success Critera and selected Quiz is Passed check box.
The LMS we are currently using is Blackboard Learn 9.1 Service Pack 11, Cumulative Patch 16
    Thank you,
    Nancy

Did you delete your quiz results slide? I have built custom quiz questions and because I never used an 'official' quiz question, I never got a quiz results slide (which CP automatically adds to the project when you add an 'official' quiz question). What I found was that my quiz would freeze at the strangest times...usually a few slides before the last  question. As soon as I added a dummy 'official' quiz question, then CP added in the quiz results slide and it never froze again. I looked at your screenshot and I couldn't see if you had a quiz results slide or not, so I figured I would ask.
I think there is some form of strabeness happening with the quiz questions reporting to the quiz result slide. It seems like CP doesn't report to the slide after every question is answered, but rather it fires something off when it thinks it's getting close to the end. If it can't find that slide, then it locks up. At least that's what has happened in the past for me. It would lock up both when I ran the module local on my desktop AND when I ran it through the LMS. As soon as I added a quiz results slide, it never locked up again.
Oh, and a hint about the special text boxes on quiz slides...If I don't want them to be seen, I move them ALMOST completely off the slide. I will leave one or two pixels on the slide so they will be rendered (x=799 for an 800x600 project) but the actual text or whatever is off the screen and nobody can see them...

  • Captivate 5-Quiz-Freezing

All of a sudden, Adobe Captivate starts freezing when I tried to delete slides or pictures while I'm working on quizzes. I uninstalled the software and reinstalled it on my laptop but it doesn't seem to help. Can you please let me know how I can solve this problem? Thank you for your time.

No, you're not looking in the correct path still. Look at this path again carefully:
    C:\Users\Rod\AppData\Local\Adobe\Captivate 5
This is NOT the My Documents folder, and it's not the Captivate 5 install folder (which would be in Program Files (x86) if you're on a 64 bit system).
This is the folder inside your user profile where Captivate stores all those Preference settings you make when using the program.
If you go back and browse to your user profile, you may not be seeing the AppData folder because these folders are hidden in Windows by default.  Search the Windows help files to find out how to Show Hidden Files and Folders.
    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Show-hidden-files
Then you should be able to see AppData\Local\Adobe\Captivate 5
Make sure Captivate is closed down, then delete the Captivate 5 folder at the location shown above, and restart Captivate again.  The folder will be immediately recreated with fresh settings.
If your issue stems from corrupted preferences, this might fix it.

  • Quiz problems, white screen appears, quiz freezes, cannot get consistent responses when adding click-through assessment questions to the quiz.

Why would I get a white screen after answering a quiz click-through?

You'll have to do two things.. Elaborate on exactly what you mean by a white screen appears. What is turning white? Are you generating a SWF from captivate of a screen capture session, then trying to load that SWF with a wrapper and when you do so it turns white? (In that scenario, if Captivate was looking for external assets it can't find, that'd be why). Please include more details on that.
Second, code of this size pasted into the forum really doesn't help. You'll need to do the work to isolate exactly what part of the code you're seeing this white box appear. Run it in a debugger line by line until you witnesss it turn white and only share that small portion of code. And if you do choose to share a ton of code, please use a site like pastebin.com which will retain formatting and color coding, making it much easier to read, and then share that pastebin link.

  • Captivate 6 Quiz Slow and Freezing

    Hi,
I'm trying to finalise my project, and I'm running into nothing but problems. The biggest problem that I'm having right now is with the quiz freezing at the end of each project. It's always in a different place each time, and when it's not freezing, it's ridiculously slow (it took a user 5 minutes to answer 3 questions earlier today).
The original format had the quiz in a project divided up by unit (3 units in a project = 3 quizzes). I tried to create the advanced interactions that are necessary to make individual score slides, but I'm brand new to Captivate, and I didn't know what to do with the advanced actions once I made them (and the project kept freezing, so I gave up)! Exchanging my pedagogic ideal for one of convenience, I put the quizzes at the end of the entire project, with an intermediate score slide between each section, showing the user their cumulative total and offering them the chance to review the previous questions. However, I was still experiencing the freezing issue. I deleted the intermediate score slides and reinstated the regular quiz score slide, and now the quiz won't load at all! All the other slides in the project load just fine, so I know it's just the quiz (and it's the same for each of the projects I'm working on).
    So far, I have
Unchecked the box for "report score" - we don't need to know how well the user did; it's for their own information.
    Cleared the cache.
Copied and pasted the slides and started the quizzes from scratch. Twice.
This has to be either a Captivate issue, or a me issue. I really hope it's me.
    Please help!
    Thanks,
    CCM

It is very difficult to post a screenshot of it because it is barely visible, they forgot to change the color of the Pausing symbol on the Slide. Look closely to the timeline of the Quiz slide. Right in the middle you should see a vertical double bar (like it appears for a button, where it is better visible) but it is black on dark blue (when question slide is selected, which makes it difficult to see. Place the cursor over that double bar (Pause) and it will change in a double arrow which allows you to drag it more to the right, near to the end of the slide. There is no other way like for buttons, because Quiz slides have no Timing accordion. That pausing is used twice for quiz slides: when the user submits, the playhead will not move, when he enters Y or clicks on the slide the playhead will be released and the actions defined in the Action accordion will be executed. Default actions are Continue, which means that the playhead will move on, and has to wander through all the frames after the pausing point, which takes 1,5secs (inactive portion). If you move the pausing near to the end and/on shorten the duration of the slide if possible (not when you need to listen to an audio clip) that waiting time will be shorter, or, as you found out if you change Continue to Go to Next Slide there will be no waiting time at all.
It is not a good idea to remove the Next button if you want to offer Review, because the user will need it then and you cannot put it back during Review. However you can drag the Next button to the same place as the Clear button, it will will be covered until Review.
I explained those work flows in these posts, written for 5/5.5, but still valid for 6; have to write some posts about new Quiz features in 6 but time is a problem:

  • Adobe Presenter 8 Quiz issues

We're having issues with the way quizzes are acting in SCORM packages created with Presenter 8. Users are having the quiz freeze and unable to answer, some questions are already marked wrong when they start the quiz, and some questions (particularly matching questions) display incorrectly. We are using Moodlerooms Joule as our LMS. Any ideas?

I was having similar problem. So many that I gave up on the quizzes altogether.

  • Help I'm trying to preview/publish my project but keeps freezing in quiz

    Hi All,
I really hope that someone can help. I have a relatively simple course that is made up of about 60 content slides and 15 question slides (so not a huge course!) Within the course I have a couple of slides that act as an index allowing the learner to navigate (using buttons) to certain pages of information or to go straight to the quiz. However when I keep these slides in my project the quiz always freezes (at different points so not isolated to a particular question slide).
When I remove the two index slides then the project works fine, I have deleted them, recreated them but still the same problem. Equally I also get the problem if I just put a button on the first page to go straight to the quiz, the quiz then just freezes.
I have set the project so that passing is just by passing the quiz (not slide attempts), I've also set it so that interaction data is not reported on, only the quiz questions.
Can anyone help to identify the problem as I've exhausted all the suggestions from similar posts about selecting not to send resume data etc.
    Many thanks in advance
    Lisa

    Hi Rod,
Thanks for coming back to me, I've done as you have suggested but can't see any problems in advanced interactions (although I am a novice!)
I have attached a screen shot showing the advanced interactions for the problem slide, along with a screenshot showing the quiz questions within this project along with a screenshot of the quiz preferences, if you require any further information then please let me know.
    Kind Regards,
    Lisa

  • Breeze freezes during quiz

    Hello,
Is there a solution for this problem? I am running Breeze
Presenter 5.1.269 . If users navigate backward after getting to a
fill-in-the-blank 3-question quiz, and then try to progress through
the quiz, Breeze freezes. It says they didn't answer the question
completely. "Allow backward movement" is enabled in the quiz
    manager. Please help.
I also notice that you should never use the Page Up or Page
Down keys because that causes the same problem. Shouldn't users be
able to navigate either way? (keyboard or clicking arrow icons?)

My company has also experienced the same thing - to where I
also coined the term "Breeze Freeze." I'm interested in knowing the
    solution as well ;)

  • Screens are freezing before quiz slides

    Hi,
I am working with a course where the screen right before a quiz slide will freeze when you click Forward and it won't load the quiz slides. It doesn't happen for every browser, but its happening for the majority (IE 10,9; all versions of Chrome).
I'm using Captivate 7 on Windows 7 and testing in Chrome 32.
Has anyone experienced this before? I've never seen this happen.
    Thanks,
    Kristen

Does anyone else have any thoughts about how this could be happening? I had it happen in another course and the screens only freeze on slides right before quiz slides. Each of those slides happened to have Advanced Actions on them...the actions are there to show/hide smart shapes with text so that it acts as a button.
Does that create any issues with the freezing?
The quiz settings are 80% passing grade, they have 2 attempts for each quiz slide, they are only multiple choice questions, they get 10 points for correct answers...what other settings do you need to know?
The screens are only freezing in IE10, Chrome 31, Chrome 23, and Chrome 17. It doesn't seem to be happening in IE 11, Chrome 32, or Safari. Could the older browsers be creating a problem? Or our SWF output? We're setting it at Flash Player 10.
Thanks for any help. I can't figure this one out...

  • IE freezes when playing quiz slides via LMS

Has anyone experienced issues with Internet Explorer going into Not Responding status when attempting to complete or move through quiz slides when they are displayed via an LMS?  Using Captivate 4, published to Flash 8, IE 7.
    -beverly

Yes, I have experienced something very similar.
It will sometimes freeze when the user answers a question and then clicks the submit button.  Sometimes it will also freeze when a user clicks on the IE close button (Red X in the upper right hand corner)...Or sometimes it will close the browser but then our LMS stops responding.

  • Last quiz question just freezes

A colleague of mine made a Captivate movie with three quiz
questions. They are designed so that the user is allowed one
attempt at each question, and if the user gets the question wrong,
they are taken to the slide previous to the question slide so that
they can review. The problem occurs on the third question. When the
user gets it wrong, it does go back to the previous slide, but then
when the user clicks the Next button to go back to the question
slide, the question cannot be resubmitted. I've adjusted the number
of attempts, the scoring, the backward movement, the pass/fail,
etc., and I have no idea why that one question slide is being such
    a pain.
I realize it has something to do with it being the last
slide, because when I move it up to an earlier slide, it doesn't
have the same problem, but the colleague wants the slides in this
    order.

    Hi Lira,
Okay... gotcha. Usually when you have a quiz in a captivate
movie - you cannot retake a quiz just by navigating back to it. In
order to retake it - the movie would need to be reopened. I just
created a quick sample to try it out myself - and was able to
retake the quiz on the 2nd slide (I think because it is relaunching
the movie by going back to the first slide.) When I get to the 4th
slide - and get the quiz wrong - I go back to the 3rd slide - then
when I get to the 4th slide again, I cannot retake the quiz. I am
able to still navigate forward, because I set the option 'allow
user to review quiz' in the Quiz Manager. This will display the
'Next' button when I go back to a quiz question. You can then
remove the 'Review Area' that displays, if you don't want them to
have review information. I can explain this further if you need me
to. I can't think of a solution to be able to have them retake the
quiz - without relaunching the movie. I'm stumped. If I think of
    something - I'll post.

  • Quiz Questions freezing project

We have a project created with Cap 5.5 that will not advance beyond a question slide. We are using various question types: MC, FIB, Matching, etc none of which are working. Captivate determines if the user got the question correct or incorrect but will not advance beyond that point. We are not using question pools. Any solutions would be greatly appreciated.

Hi, I'm having this problem, and would be really grateful for any feedback.
I've got 12 questions, multiple choice, they allow the user to click in one of the 3 options and submit, then get the message to say whether they were correct or not, and then click anywhere to continue, but they click and nothing happens.  The users are having to close the window and start again.  It doesn't happen everytime.  I have tested it on my mac in preview mode since having this feedback and the same is happening for me.
The IT department at the client company seems to think there is some code missing, but I don't understand how that can be the case as I've just created it using captivate question slides.  I am using Captivate 5.
Does anyone have any ideas on why this might be please?
    Thank you very much
    Sarah
