R12 Application Cloning without Rapid Clone.

I am new to Apps Cloning.
And I am having some handson R12.
I have been tasked to clone an R12 Application Database manually(without using Rapid Clone)
I am done with the Database Cloning part.
Now struggling with Apps part.
One of the issues is :

Hi,
We are using EBS 12.0.4 with DB version Oracle Database 10g Enterprise Edition Release 10.2.0.4.0.
Initilally the RAC to non RAC cloning were not supported using rapid clone for this.But from Oct 19 Oracle has certified the same.
Can anybody specify me the document which contain the step by step process for RAC to NON-RAC Cloning using Rapid Clone.I cant find this.

New Rapid clone document

we have EBS R12.1.2 and plan to do the farm clone. on database side we will use database "hot backup".
Does any one know where is clone document which relate to "hot backup"?
Can I use RMAN backup or not? if YES any document?

Cloning Oracle Applications Release 12 with Rapid Clone

I was going through metalink doc 406982.1 Cloning Oracle Applications Release 12 with Rapid Clone.
I couldn't understand a few points.
I would appreciate if someone can guide me regarding the following queries.
There is a statement in the doc
1)An important principle in Oracle Applications cloning is that the system is cloned, rather than the topology ....
--What is meant by topology in this description?
2)The Cloning methodology posted on this document requires full Autoconfig complience.
--didn't get this point.
3)Note: In the copying tasks below, UNIX/Linux users should ensure that the symbolic links (soft links) are preserved when copying. On most UNIX platforms, this can be accomplished with the cp -RH command. Consult the UNIX man page for the cp command to check the parameters available on your platform.
--what soft links are being talked about?will the regular cp -R command not preserve the soft links?
4)For patching AutoConfig on the E-Business Suite R12 instance, AutoConfig needs to be enabled on both the applications tier and the database tier. (387859.1)
--HOw do I check if AutoConfig is enabled or not?
5)Why do I need to synchronize appsutil on database tier from application tier?
6)Why do we need to maintaain snapshot information?
What does snapshot actually do?

Errors and warnings are listed in the log file
Also I am getting same kind of errors for patches 8919489,9171651,9833058 and 12404574.
Although there were neither failures nor any ORA- error in any of the log files.
Please guide what needs to be done regarding the shown errors for the patches.
after executing adpreclone on db tier I got the following message in logfile.
error while preclone on db tier:Attempt to remove existing adcrdb.zip failed
What could have been wrong?
Is the message normal and can it be safely ignored?
As a pre-install task of patch 9239089,I executed adgrantsall.sql
which gave me a prompt Enter a value for 1:
I entered apps (apps schemaname/username)
Is it ok?

Hi Guru,
I need to decommision R12 application node before clone. Could you please let me know the TOP's i need to delete before that??

You need to delete all the files/directories of the instance that need to be refreshed -- Refer to these docs for details.

Cloning Non EBS Database with Rapid Clone.

Hi DBAs,
It might sound weird but I was curious that - Can you clone the regular oracle database (Non EBS) using rapid clone. Lets suppose if I copy over appsutil directory from a EBS database and manually edit the context file with current instance information. Also if I need to do some changes in shell/perl scripts of rapid clone etc.
Have any one done it in past by doing some magic and tricks or Is there automated script based cloning available for regular databases?

Hi Naveed,
I believe it is not possible as Rapid Clone is an Oracle Apps utility, so Oracle does not support cloning non-Apps databases using Rapid Clone.
In addition, there is no context file or AutoConfig in such a database, which is required for Rapid Clone to work properly.
Is there automated script based cloning available for regular databases? For this cloning, you can use the manual method, export/import, or RMAN.

R12 rapid clone issue.

Dear All,
I wanted to clarify a question regarding rapid clone since I encountered this in one of our customer site recently.
If preclone was not run before moving the source system to the target host, will the following work-around be sufficient.
1. Run the preclone on the db and Apps Tier
2. Copy RDBMS_ORACLE_HOME/appsutil to the target DB Tier and replace
3. Copy COMN_TOP/clone to the target Apps Tier and replace
4. Run the postclone scirpts.

Cloning without shutting down the db

Hi,
Can you please suggest how to clone apps and db without shutting down the database? Apps is just copying the files, is there a recommended way to do the db cloning without shutting down the db.
Updating the instance details:
db - 10.2.0.4 on RHEL
apps - 11.5.10.2

I need to install a R12(12.1.3) but this time i need to install it for practice purpose, so imagine i don't have internet connection and i have to install a R12 instance and how do i install it?
MY CONFIGURATION
OS: OEL 5.7 64bit
RAM 8GB
HDD: 500GB
1. Now while installing OEL it will asks for HOSTNAME - in that what is the hostname should i give? either LOCALHOST or any DN i have.
Then what is the IP to be Given, STATIC or DHCP... If static means whether it is manual or automatic.?
I don't know whether there is a way to do or am somewhere crazy or wrong, sorry if so.
2. Then if there is way means i will backup or clone my instance which have already installed and i have to restore it in this scenario. if so what are the steps to be followed.
Kindly request you to provide steps if any and DOC ID's.

I do not know what you mean by manual/automatic. You need to set up a fixed IP Address that does not change each time your reboot or reconnect to the network.

Is it possible to run Rapid clone in a silent/automatic mode?

Hi List,
Just wonder if somebody from you fully automated Apps env. cloning procedure?
We have managed to automate DB part of cloning and most of post clone tasks.
But one step we still doing manually:
perl $COMMON_TOP/clone/bin/adcfgclone.pl appsTier
and answering to all question this tool asking.
We would like fully automate the cloning procedure to eliminate humane errors.
Any experience/suggestions on that?

Oracle application cloning error

I tried to do the cloning in oracle application 11.5.10.2, but I got the following error control file creation failed, now my database status is nomount stage, now I create the control file manually its possible please give me the solution.

What is the complete error message?
If you have managed to create the control files manually, you can follow the steps in (Note: 230672.1 - Cloning Oracle Applications Release 11i with Rapid Clone), under "Appendix B: Recreating Database control files manually in Rapid Clone." section. Otherwise, you will have to shutdown the source database properly, take a backup, and repeat the normal cloning steps.

Perform a normal shutdown of the Source System Database
Copy the Database (DBF) files from the Source to the Target System
Copy the Source Database ORACLE_HOME to the Target System
Start up the Source Applications System Database and Application Tier processes"
Step "Copy the Database (DBF) files from the Source to the Target System" I think database files means data files and redo logs both in this scope.Basicly copy all dbtier from your target

E-business Application cloning

Hi,
I have some doubts regarding E-business application cloning. As per Oracle documents, we have to first prepare source system by executing adpreclone.pl script. I do understand, that this script captures the changes done in source system and create templates out of it. On target system, we execute adcfgclone.pl on dbtier and apps tier.
However I have seen a practice where sometimes refresh from production environment to dev environment is done. While doing refresh, following steps are performed:
1> source system's db tier is directly cloned using Rman duplicate command. Only dbtier is cloned not rdbms oracle home.
2> on dbtier, adcgfclone.pl is NOT EXECUTED. instead node_name column from FND_CONCURRENT_QUEUES is updated with web-tier name and concurrent manager server name ( APPS tier has shared APPL_TOP and one node is webtier node and other is APPS_tier node)
3> application tier binaries are copied (overwritten) to apps tier of dev system (context file for both nodes already backed up before overwrite)
4> adcfgclone appstier <backedup contextfile> is executed on webtier first then on concurrent manager node following is executed in order
adclonectx.pl addnode contextfile= <path to backed up context file> then backuped up contextfile copied to original location and
adconfig.pl contextfile=<path of contextfile> is executed.
Then autoconfig is executed on all appstier nodes and system works all fine. In whole process, I am unable to understand following two steps,
1> how update to FND_CONCURRENT_QUEUES table works directly.
2> in Oracle home of rdbms, i checked, in appsutil folder, clone folder is missing, i.e no adcfgclone.pl.. why is this??
These steps are complete different from those mentioned in Oracle docs.. Kindly please explain the steps here at dbtier.. they are confusing.

I meant we do not execute adcfgclone.pl. only update this table with node names of web node and concurrent manager node. then execute cmclean.sql and then run autoconfig thats it. no more steps and our dbtier gets set.As mentioned above, run cmclean.sql, clean FND_NODES then run AutoConfig. You could also update it from the application (System Administrator responsibility > Concurrent > Manager > Define) screen or from the backend by updating the table (cmclean.sql script updates other columns in the same table).
On my rdbms Oracle_home folder appsutil folder is present. only clone folder in it is missing. that means adpreclone was not executed. I am not able to under stand how without preparing source system for cloning (without using adpreclone) directly cloning db with rman (using active clone) and just cloning apps tier we are able to get exact copy. when docs suggest we muct execute adcfgclone on dbtier (which we don't) and we also do not execute adpreclone on source systemRunning preclone on the source instance is a must. However, if you only need to refresh the database (you mentioned before you do not need to refresh the RDBMS ORACLE_HOME) then you can recreate the database manually or using RMAN. If you need to refresh RDBMS $ORACLE_HOME then you need to run preclone on the source RDBMS $ORACLE_HOME, copy the $ORACLE_HOME files and run adcfgclone.pl script on the target node.
