Well yes. It is possible it will cause issues. Especially if PSU is low quality or not sufficient enough.
what are the risks? I don't want to burn my pc / gpu

  • MSI R9 270X Hawk vs Gaming Edition IDLE FAN SPEED

    Hello,
Just wondering, I've seen in a review that the Hawk can achieve in idle a 700 rpm.
I'd like to ask if this 700 rpm in idle is true and what percentage? (18% maybe?)
And what about the Gaming Edition, what percentage can achieve in idle and what rpm?
    Thanks in advance

  • R9 270x gaming 2g oc edition bios request

    I have a msi r9 270x gaming 2g
S/N:602-v303-070B1406024860,and i want vbios file because i have a issue,i have artifacts during ac IV black flag
    Sorry for my english,i'm italian

    Hi Axa
Without knowing your PC specifications, it can be difficult to help you.
Please read “Suggestions on posting and getting better answers”
    https://forum-en.msi.com/faq/article/suggestions-on-posting-and-getting-better-answers
Firstly please check that your PSU meets the GPU power requirements, see the list here: https://forum-en.msi.com/faq/article/power-requirements-for-graphics-cards
It states that this GPU needs 24A and a 500W psu minimum
Nevertheless, even if your PSU meets these requirements, it could be that your GPU is still getting too little power and causing the artifacts.
I have a R9 270X GAMING 2G myself and my PSU meets the power requirements above, but I still have to use MSI afterburner to increase “Power Limits”
Without increasing the “Power Limit” in MSI Afterburner, I get artifacts too.
Here is my setup up for different Core Clock (MHz):
    1 - Core Clock (MHz) 1050, Memory Clock (MHz) 1400, Power Limit (%) +5
    2 - Core Clock (MHz) 1080, Memory Clock (MHz) 1400, Power Limit (%) +10
    3 - Core Clock (MHz) 1120, Memory Clock (MHz) 1400, Power Limit (%) +20
As you can see, I increase the power limit even on 1050 MHz and further increase it when increasing the Core Clock (MHz). I do not change the Memory Clock (MHz) as I my experience, it makes no difference in performance.
If you have not already installed MSI Afterburner, you can download it here: http://event.msi.com/vga/afterburner/
I hope this is helpful and please post your specifications next time, it makes it easier for people in here to help you.
PS: You may find this helpful if your GPU overheats.
To avoid overheating I use custom fan settings during gaming.
In afterburner settings, under tab “Fan”, under “Temperature hysteresis (in C) I used the value 10. As far as I know, what this does is that it follows the fan curve as if the GPU was 10 degrees warmer than it actually is. This keeps my GPU nice and cool. In Battlefield 3 the temperature stays between 60 to 65 degrees, and it is pretty warm here in China where I live. The temperature would otherwise go up to about 75-80 degrees which is not bad either. Still I find that the GPU is more stable under lower degrees.

Decompress the attached .rar archive with Winrar: http://www.rarlab.com/download.htm
Create a bootable usb stick (https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=165175.0).
Then unpack the previously provided archive (102.rar) and put the included file (TV303MH.102) on that stick.
Rename TV303MH.102 to 102.rom. Put the atiflash.exe also included in the archive provided on the USB stick too. Now boot from the stick.
Type atiflash -p -f -noaper 0 102.rom [ENTER] and let it flash the vbios.
Flobelix, would you mind explaining the "-noaper" command option that you advice to do in atiflash? I can't find an explanation about it anywhere

No, your vbios is not too old. It is the latest UEFI vbios (TV303MH.102).

  • Request: R9 270X Gaming 2G (MH-V303)

    Hi!
MSI LiveUpdate 6 fails to download TV303MS.102.
I have a R9 270X Gaming 2G (OC Edition) which is identified as MH-V303 in MSI LiveUpdate 6.
I currently have 101 installed. Where can I manually download TV303MS.102?
My current VBIOS (TV303MS.101) is found here: http://www.megafileupload.com/en/file/561211/MSI-R9-270X-Gaming-2G-rom.html (VBIOS dump done using GPU-Z 0.7.9)
Also, the tiny switch on the side of the card that's for the "UEFI BIOS SUPPORT" is not marked in any way, shape or form. Which direction is 1?
What does the switch actually do? I assume that it switches between the writeable flash memory and the read-only backup ROM. Can this switch be changed while the computer is turned on? I haven't tried so I'm just asking here. I can't find any clarifications on what the switch does by reading what comes in the box.

    Quote from: badboy2k on 29-August-14, 11:30:04
check back here in about 12hours or so as I do not know which one your card needs but someone who knows should be on within 12h or so!
as for the switch again as I didn't read it fully DO NOT move it while your computer is operating only when its powered down!
what OS are you running just out of curiosity?
    Windows 8.1 64-bit.
Which mode should the switch be in? There's no markings on it what so ever so there's no 1 and 2 or A and B. Just a switch...
I booted up in the other position than it is now and MSI LiveUpdate 6 didn't suggest any updates, but now it does, when the switch is in the original position.
The box that the card came in has that switch printed in the upper right and it points in one direction and it says "UEFI BIOS SUPPORT" under it. But no information about it what so ever in the installation guide.

  • R9 270X Gaming 2G, unable to use the latest drivers and Mantle

    I just bought a R9 270X Gaming 2G S/N 602-V303-13SB1312109829-398
When I first got the R9 270X, I installed the latest AMD drivers with the full package.
Later I got the, what I found to be, notorious atimkdag.sys BSOD.
I recovered my system partition with Acronis from before I installed the GPU. And installed the drivers found on MSI website which are considerably older than those on AMD’s website. I have not had an atimkdag.sys BSOD since. In fact I think I am using Windows stock drivers as the driver version says 13.251.9001.0, and I think the MSI driver is 13.101.0.0. Not sure how that happened.
Now my understanding is that this GPU should be Mantle enabled, however using Star Swarm Stress Test, which includes Mantle testing, said it found no Mantle enabled GPU. Perhaps because I am using an older driver.
I read somewhere that atimkdag.sys BSOD is linked to AMD Catalyst Control Center. Since I never used that last time I had an AMD GPU, I have disabled it on start-up.
What do you guys think would be the best option here? How can I both enjoy the latest drivers and avoid the notorious atimkdag.sys BSOD. Or do you think I should just stick with the drivers I have, without Mantle enabled. I haven’t actually got any Mantle enabled games at the moment, but are planning to get it though.
It may or may not be important. But I upgraded from Windows 7 to Win 8 Pro then Win 8.1 Pro. Perhaps it is leftover sys files. I noticed in forums that the atimkdag.sys BSOD mostly hit Win 7 systems. Perhaps the reason I am not getting the BSOD now is simply that I am not using AMD Catalyst Control Center, as you would think that if it is left over from Win 7 it should affect both old and latest drivers, right.
    Thanks

Please disregard my previous post asking for help.
This is also a message to other noobs like myself, read the F.A.Q. before you post anything in the forum. I read the F.A.Q. about how to update drivers, how to remove old driver fragments and followed it to the letter.
    https://forum-en.msi.com/faq/article/where-can-i-download-vga-drivers-and-how-do-i-install-t
Now Mantle works and as for the atikmdag.sys BSOD, hopefully I will not experience this now that I completely uninstalled all previous driver files, using Driver Sweeper in Safe Mode. I do not see why I should.
If against odds it happens, then I will come back and ask you guys for help.
    Thanks

  • Goldenvs. Gaming Edition

About to buy a GTX 970 for my son's new PC build (Christmas and graduation gift).
I am strongly leaning towards MSI vs. Asus, EVGA or Zotac due to what I read about the build quality and cooling. Do I need Golden edition due to better backplate and copper and factory OC? Or will I be just as happy without the backplate and regular pipes and factory OC? I did some OC 5-10 years ago on CPU and memory, so I am not totally unfamiliar with how to do it.
And, if in a year he decides to go SLI will the Golden Edition still be in production? I realize I can SLI a Gaming GTX 970 with it but then I lose the factory OC and backplate on the second card so why wouldn't I just get the gaming version now?  About $50-60 difference in price

Personally I would wait until January/February (yes I did read it's for Christmas etc). Therefore after new year it's very likely, in most places, that prices will drop, especially if nvidia would announce new GPU chip like 980Ti or 990.
Golden Edition does look nicer just because it has this backplate+gold instead of red (red is standard for MSI Gaming, so that's why gold looks so "special"). But apart from that, performance is exactly the same, and I would simply go for Gaming edition one. Also once warranty goes out (3 years I believe?) you can always paint it your way
You could pre-order either one on retailer's website, and just make sure they have them in stock before Christmas (usually says like "Re-Stocked in 2 weeks or on 20th December") so it's not late Christmas present
