Radeon 7000 and 10.4.10

I just updated to Tiger and the following problem developed: When the computer wakes up the video signal is broken in a strange pixelated picture. I see the cursor and am able to properly restart. After restart I can work, but have to shut down otherwise the same problem occurs. The computer-monitor worked well under Panther. I pulled USB 2 card out to eliminate possible interference, but it didn't help.
Is Radeon 7000 compatible with 10.4? Or is CRT monitor compatible with 10.4?

B&W G3 + Radeon 7000 + Mac OS 8.6 = no dice?

Greetings. I recently acquired a "new to me" B&W G3 (rev 2 motherboard). It came equipped with a Radeon 7000 and Mac OS X. I have since acquired a Rage 128, a new hard drive, and installed Mac OS 8.6 on it. I now have a Radeon 7000 lying around and would like to use it to set up an extra monitor.
I have tried plugging it into the next available PCI slot and hooking up my 1680x1050 resolution LCD monitor. No dice.
My theory is that this set up should work if I had the correct drivers for the card (and the card supports that resolution). Unfortunately, a search for "Radeon 7000" and "Mac OS 8" doesn't yield the desired results.
There are drivers for OS 9 and I even saw a site that had drivers for System 7.6(!). There are so many drivers my mind has been boggled. Not only that, ATI dumps between 7-10 extensions in my System Folder depending on the installer so finding the correct combination of ATI drivers (and versions) is an exercise in madness.
Does anybody know which ATI drivers (and version numbers) will work with this (or a similar) set up?
I'd prefer not to upgrade to Mac OS 9 if at all possible (my apps work just great in 8...plus, I don't have that disk anyway!)

Glad to help, try this is well:
In extensions manager, turn off "ATI graphics accelerator" that was the olde driver, from before you put in the 2002 update, don't need that.
Put the card back in the fast slot, it works fine there but press the CUDA button on the motherboard (while it is off) and reset the PRAM

You might have to boot a couple of times after doing this for it to work properly. But the 7000 will work fine in the correct slot. Its the ideal card for a B&W as it is the fastest card that has acceleration from OS 8.6 to 10.4.11
Once you reset the PRAM and CUDA it will work fine, give it another shot.

ATI Radeon 7000 series and Photoshop CS5 and CS6

Interesting to note, Running windows 7 64bit I have bought a new graphics card, it is an ATI Radeon HD7900 bought to run Photoshop CS5 and 6 unfortunately the graphics card is not displayed in the photoshop prefrences, I checked the list of cards supported by Adobe and the Radeon 7000 series was listed.....I rang Adobe who states that the HD7000 is not supported, so until (if ever ) it is I cannot use the full functionality of Photoshop CS5 extended. I'm not sure if all the Radeon HD cards are supported or not, but maybe check before you invest in a new card.

The Radeon 7000 series cards should work fine with both CS5 and CS6, but as Steve noted there is a problem with the current drivers for the card. Until the 12.7 driver is released next month, I'd suggest using the following driver:

Use the control panel on your system to completely uninstall your current driver before installing the 12.6 beta driver. Please let us know if the beta driver resolves the issues you're seeing.

PowerMac G3 B&W and Radeon 7000 PCI Low Performance :(

Hello guys. Lats week I bought Radeon 7000 PCI Mac Edition for my B&W. In my B&W I've got G4 XLR8 400@500MHz, 320MB RAM in Micron modules, Radeon 7000 PCI ME, USB 2.0 card on NEC chipset, ATTO SCSI PSC card witch system disk connected to it. When I put this Radeon to B&W I was not impressed at all. I installed all drivers for OS9 and 10.3.9 I also installed 10.4.8 for some tests. First I try visualizations in OS9 in iTunes 2.0.4 and I've got only 19fps in Panther with iTunes 7.0.2 effect are similar about 14-23fps. The best things happened in Tiger frame drops in DVD Player was noticed by me and iTunes visualizations are also very slow. On my old Beige G3 266MHz and older Ati Radeon PCI ME I've got about 40fps in iTunes 2 in OS9. I don't understand this situation my old machine with I sold almost two years ago was faster then my B&W G4 with Radeon 7000 ME witch I'm using now. I also tested this card in my PowerMac G4 AGP and in OS9 results was the same.
Do you have some idea how to resolve this or maybe I've made a mistake somewhere or maybe this is normal thing for this card ?
One more thing I installed the the ATI Radeon 7000 card after I had installed the system on B&W and G4 AGP.

If your Beige had an original Radeon Mac Edition, that is a more powerful card than the Radeon 7000.

KM4M how to enable both onboard video and video card radeon 7000

My motherboard is KM4M and I have a radeon 7000(this card has 2 heads: one DVI and one VGA), actually I need 3 monitors at the same time. when I install the card, the onboard video disappeared. how to enable all of them?

I just install the fresh installer for Arch. All my system its updated for last date.
I can't running the Xorg server with 'radeon' driver (xf86-...-ati), But in 'vesa' Xorg working ok.
Anywhere, with 'vesa' the gnome can't start..

Satellite A65-51762 Mobility Radeon 7000 ICG driver crashes

I have a Toshiba Satellitle A65-51762. It operated for years without problems. About 8 months ago, while running DVDShrink, DVDDecrypter, DVDFabDecrypter or WinDVD, about every two weeks, the video will suddenly drop to lo-res (640x480) and complain, but I could continue if it was DVDShrink, DVDDecrypter or DVDFabDecrypter. Rebooting would bring back it to hi-res..
It got worse and worse, eventually happening in 30 to 60 minutes after beginning the program. Finally instead of rebooting I would get blue screen Hard Error C0000415, then be asked if I wanted to reboot normally, which it did.
Then I removed all ATI software, deleted the device, let WinXP reinstall it as VGA, then installed the updated driver. It worked fine for a few days and then began doing the same thing every two or three hours.
Could this be hardware? The ATI MOBILITY RADEON 7000 ICG chip? Something else? How is DVD involved? DMA? BIOS? Would it have to go back to the factory or can I pull chips?
It feels more like software. How can I check it out? Are you familiar with the problem?

I'll try www.omegadrivers.net. Except for a similar video crash during Skype last night, my ATI crashes occur while processing DVD files from disk or an actual DVD, lots of file data running through the system. Evidently the ATI chip is affected by what else is going on in the system. The system freezes about two minutes then drops to lo-res. I've seen error messages rebooting afterwards about the ATI chip caught itself in an infinite loop.
II just had two more video crashes. Only Netscape 7.2 has been run since reboot. During the first reboot, I got a blue screen message saying
ati2dvag was caught in an infinite loop, either hardware is failing
or software is reprogramming the chip wrong.
I had to use Reboot Windows Normally. The 2nd crash now say ATI driver
stopped resonding, probably another infinite loop. So I have a driver problem
or a hardware problem.
I couldn't figure how to use omegadrivers.net to find a driver.

In search of drivers for ATI Radeon 7000

I recently purchased a used ATI Radeon 7000 PCI video card for my G3 beige, OS 9.2.2. This is an older model card with just the single VGA output. This comes up as card name "ATI, Bluestar", and card model "ATI, RV100" under Apple System Profiler so I'm a bit confused about that to start with. However, since ASP recognizes it I guess it seems to work though I haven't plugged my monitor into it yet.
The problem is the drivers.
I went to ATI's website to look for drivers to download to get this card working. They have an OS9 updater (ati-retail-9-2-2-jan2005.hqx) that should install a bunch of components. When I run it it only installs a partial set, contrary to what it says it should do. I've seen other postings on Apple Discussions about problems with this installer. ATI seems to make it impossible to contact them other than by telephone which is only open to original purchasers so I can't even tell them there's a problem (much less expect them to do anything about it). A search for Bluestar or RV100 reveals nothing on ATI's website.
Has anybody gotten this installer to work? Is there some other source for drivers for this card? Can somebody e-mail them to me (I don't think this violates any rules since in theory they are openly down-loadable)?

Thanks to all for answering my questions. I decided in the end to just plug my monitor into the card and give it a try despite not haveing the groundwork properly set up. It works so it must be a Mac version of the card. This website (http://www.welovemacs.com/radeon7000vga.html) describes the card, including the model number (but I paid a LOT, LOT less than their price!).
Yes, the installer does put all kinds of things in the System, but not the promised control panel. It looks like the CP isn't essential to the working of the card so I'm not worrying anymore. I used the Apple monitors control panel to set the resolution a few times but it froze up on me once when setting it to 640x480. After that I pulled a copy of Super Res that I had in storage and have been using that.
As to the graphics acceleration, it's kind of hard to tell. I tried viewing a mp4 video clip I have with Quicktime 6. Before the card I could maybe watch a minute before my computer would freeze up. Now I can watch maybe 3 minutes before it freezes up, but the video is very jerky, even when compared to the one minute before card installation. I may now be experiencing the limitations of my 266 MHz G3 in terms of decoding mp4, but this doesn't explain why video seemed smoother before, brief though it was before a freeze.
I then tried a video game. Actually video wasn't too slow with this even with my old configuration. Now things seem to hesitate when the play gets busy and it remids me of when I used to play Crystal Quest on a Mac SE. In this case the card has made things slower.
With general scrolling I don't really notice a difference. There's still hesitation at times. In all the cases I have mentioned the ATI thing in the menu bar says grahics acceleration is on.
So in actuality I haven't really noticed any improvement with this card. If anybody has any tips on ways to tune the system to take more advantage of the card I'd welcome them.

Arch Noodle ATI Radeon 7000 Scroll Wheel

Hi,
I'm at a lose here would much appreciate any help.
I've done a new Arch installation and my screen is not nice and Scroll wheel is not working.
I went looking for /etc/X11/xorg.conf file and it is not there.
I have two graphic cards: one built into MB other is ATI Radeon 7000 with TVout (this is the one I'v connected my Monitor)
I did xorgcfg but I cant find ATi drivers in the config list.
I've done a lot of searches but not yet sure how to go about this.
(I've installed Mandrake 2006 and It found ATi and due to this I think my HW is ok)

Like Joao said try to find necessary drivers on Toshiba download site. All drivers are designed for each notebook model and if you use a driver downloaded from graphic card producer site there is no guarantee that it will work properly.

Radeon 7000 PCI Card

I am trying to help my Father with a new monitor and possibly a graphics card. Will an ATI Radeon 7000 PCI graphics card work in a G4 400mhz sawtooth? Thanks for the help.

While a Mac-compatible (programmed with a Mac ROM) Radeon 7000 PCI graphics card will function in a G4 Sawtooth, I'd really suggest that you get an AGP graphics card. The AGP bus is designed strictly for the graphics card, so that it doesn't have to share the PCI bus with other cards. A 2x AGP bus effectively runs at 133 MHz (2 x 66 MHz), so you really don't want to take a big step backward and use a 33 MHz PCI slot for the graphics card. In terms of choice for a suitable AGP card, be sure that the new display's optimal resolution is supported by the graphics card. The product info/specs for ATI's recent Mac cards can be found here. Radeon 7000 pci card leaves monitors blank when booting up in os9.2

Hi, I've installed a Radeon 7000 pci card to run a second vga display and it works perfectly when I am in os x 10.4.10. But, when I start up into os 9.2 (to run a legacy program and scsi device) both monitors go grey after the start up is completed. Once I pull the video card out, os 9.2 is visible on the monitor running off of the agp card. I don't need the dual monitors for the times I use os9.2, but I don't want to have to pull the pci card out each time I switch to 9.2 either.
Would anyone have any ideas as to why this card isn't working when I go to os9.2? It looks like it almost works as it displays all of the start up screens and extension icons, then goes grey. Is it a Tiger issue with a cure? Or would there be a agp card that would allow me to run both vga monitors and would work on at least one monitor when I switch over to os9.2?
Any replies would be greatly appreciated!

The OSX install CD was a retail (black) one.
I also tried both 10.3 and 9.2 retail install disks.
At one point the CD seemed to go through the
activity of booting (activity light and noises) but the
screen was black with not even the power light lit on the monitor.
All other times it spun up, blinked a few times then stopped.
The time it went through the blinking and spinning
of booting it was with a new EIDE cable.
I noticed the original cable had pinholes in it.
I tried the CD drive by itself on both the
motherhoard connectors (jumper on CD set to master).
I also tried it with the HD with it set to slave (HD set to master).
I'm thinking this is a cable issue.
But with new EIDE cables to the HD and optical
it still is a no go.
I'm going to lay the motherboard and all components
out on a desk and use an OCZ ATX power supply I have.
However when I first got the G3 and it wouldn't power on
I plugged the OCZ into the motherboard and HD.
It still would not power on. Then I discovered the
two buttons on the LB and after pressing them it
started OK with the original PS.
It usually starts OK now with the front button.
I also have a DVI to ACD Apple converter and
an ACD display.
It shows a splash screen very distorted then goes black.
Any other thoughts?

Sapphire Radeon 7000 not working in Powermac G5 1.8 Dual

I Have a Powermac G5 1.8 Dual Late 2003.
i have just bought a new graphics card, its a Sapphire 1024-9C02-00-SA 64MB PCI ATi Radeon 7000, i have put the card in, it shows up in system profiler, and says driver installed, but i wont detect it in display options, can anyone help, as i was told this will work on my mac.

Radeon 7000 with a 22" Widescreen LCD Display?

My Dad's 17" CRT monitor on his B&W G3 tower gave up its life, and I'm looking to replace it with a widescreen 22" LCD display (1680*1050 native resolution). The tower's stock ATI Rage 128 (16MB) card is most likely not able to handle this resolution (in addition, it lacks a DVI port, providing only analog output which I find looks rather crummy on an LCD display), so I'd also like to upgrade to a Radeon 7000 with a DVI port. There are a number of these cards floating around on eBay in 32MB and 64MB varieties. I also spotted the Radeon 9200 (PCI variety), which is more costly and probably beyond the needs of my Dad's web-browsing, mail, and iPhoto needs.
Has anyone successfully run a 22" widescreen display at native resolution via a DVI port, using a Radeon 7000? If so, does the 32MB variety suffice, or would I have to look at a 64MB variety? The Radeon 7000 specs page <http://ati.amd.com/products/radeon7000/radeon7000me/specs.html> does not list 1680*1050 resolution (nor any widescreen resolution for that matter), but neither does the specs page for the much more modern Radeon 9200 <http://ati.amd.com/products/radeon9200/radeon9200me/specs.html>, so I figure that the specs pages don't tell the whole story. Thanks for any insights!

Yesterday I picked up a Samsung 216BW 21.6" display with 1680*1050 resolution. Although I'm still awaiting arrival of the Radeon 9200 (64MB) card, I thought I'd try to hook up the monitor to the stock Rage 128 (16MB) card to see what happens. I powered up the B&W G3, and was pleasantly surprised to see the Apple logo appear followed by the startup screen. I logged into my account, and found that the Rage 128 was actually displaying in widescreen mode, albeit at some non-native resolution. Naturally, the next step was to pull down the displays menu and check the other resolution options. The menu read as follows:

I chose the last item (can't say why this item was listed twice), held my breath, and an instant later was blown away to find the old Rage driving the display at native resolution with a very decent looking image (even though this is over the analogue RGB cable). So I can confirm that the Rage 128 does support a 21.6" widescreen display at native resolution (and I would presume the same applies for 20" and 22" widescreen displays, since they all share the same resolution). I'll also mention that the B&W G3 tower is running Mac OS X 10.4.9.
In any case, I still don't regret having ordered the Radeon, as the Rage 128 does not properly support fullscreen slideshow mode and transitions in iPhoto 5, and my Dad spends a lot of his time dabbling with iPhoto slideshows.

Will ATI Radeon 7000 PCI work in my G5 dual 2 GHz?

I currently have a ATI Radeon 7000 MAC32M PCI video card working just fine in my G4.
I know I should be careful about what I plug into my G5's pci slots because I don't believe they are compatible with ALL pci cards that work just fine in G4's
Does anybody know if this card is compatible with my G5's pci slots????
My G5 has a dual-monitor AGP vidoe card and I am trying to go for a 3 monitor setup!

so I finally found the manual for the Radeon 7000
it says "Power: +5V 5± %, @ 1.3A typical"........and under Bus it says "PCI: 32-bit PCI local bus compliant with PCI version 2.1 specification 33 or 66MHZ compatible"
now in the Power Mac G5 Technical Specifications i found online at apple it says
"PCI expansion
One of the following configurations:
Three open full-length 64-bit, 33MHz PCI slots, or
One open full-length 64-bit, 133MHz PCI-X slot and two open full-length 64-bit 100MHz PCI-X slots"
I have the FIRST of the Dual 2.0 GHz G5's.....the later Dual processor G5's might have had different specs than mine, but this Technical Specs file online doesn't specify between different generations of the dual 2 GHz G5's
but does this info help anyone assist me?
I do have 2 completely random cheapo firewire PCI cards in my G5 that I threw in there without much thought and they work fine....but I have no idea what their speeds/voltages are
I saw somewhere that G5's might ONLY be able to take 3.3 volt cards....so does that mean using the Radeon 7000 is a BAD idea for me since it says 5 Volts above??
or were the original Dual 2 GHz G5's okay with 5 volt pci cards?
