Radial Sunray help

Question

I am trying to create a particular object. In a nutshell, it is an oval shape that has "rectangles" more or less that are following the path of the oval. But the rectangles decrease in width the further around the oval they go (bottom right stays the same width, top right becomes very narrow).This means there should be more white space in the gaps toward the upper right hand corner of the oval. There is also about a quarter cut off of the oval and the rectangles (on purpose).

So my question is... how do I create this decrease in width of the "rectangles" around the circle.
Let me give you some background info on how I created this:
I drew an oval with the shape tool (left the fill empty, and had a stroke of my desired color)
Then I went into the stroke pallette panel and increased the weight to be the desired height of all of the rectangles.
Changed the line to be a dashed line, and kept the profile at uniform.
I understand that I can manipulate the gap and dash widths, but that is based on a repetative basis... I need it to go from largest width to smallest width (just once around the oval).
I also have tried changing the profile, but the closes I came to my desired result, was a decrease in the height (not width).
Please help me.

You may:
1) Create a rectangle corresponding to the one at the start (average width, varying width will follow);
2) Move a copy of 1) horizontally (to the right) and adjust the width to correspond to the one at the end;
3) Select 1) and 2) and Object>Blend>Make with the desired number of steps (the total number less two);
4) Define the blend as an Art Brush (default options);
5) Create the ellipse and cut it where you want the blend to start and stop;
6) Apply the Art Brush.
