Ram choice for K8T Neo FISR2 Motherboard

Can anyone tell me if this particular model of ram is compatible with the k8t neo fisr2 motherboard?
http://www.crucial.com/store/MPartspecs.Asp?mtbpoid=AC1B73A7A5CA7304&WSMD=MS%2D6702+%28K8T+Neo%2DFIS2R%29&WSPN=CT6464Z40B
according to crucial it is compatible with the mobo, but i don't see it on the msi vendor approved list for the mobo.  I did purchase it, however for the new computer that i am building, comp powers up fine, but no signal is getting to my monitor.  Do you think if the ram is not compatible and is not working, then the new machine won't boot properly, hence no signal to monitor?
i'm trying to rule out/in the memory ram as the culprit for my new comp's problems

Well first you have not posted your specs so it's a bit hard to determine if the problem could be somewhere else. Please add yoiur specs to your signature.
Second I am assuming that you don't have any other RAM you can try so here are a couple things to check;
Put in a single stick of RAM and see if it comes up, if not then try another stick.
Check and see what is happening on the D-Bracket LED's.
Double check to see that both the 4 and 20 pin power connections are plugged into the Motherboard and see if your video card requires power through a molex connector. If so make sure it has a power Supply line plugged in.
Reset the Bios with the onboard jumper. Caution, make sure you remove power before you do that step. You may also have to remove the RAM when you reset.

I've had one KVR400X64C25/512 and it have worked like a charm. Now I've bought another one (total 1gb).
When I've inserted it and start the computer I only get the CoreCell logo scren, it do not boot correctly.
    AMIBIOS is version 3.21a
    I've tried the following:
    * run only the new memory [works]
    * run only the old memory [works]
    * DIMM1 + DIMM3 [only CoreCell screen]
    * DIMM1 + DIMM2 [only CoreCell screen]
    * DIMM2 + DIMM3 [only a black screen]
    what should I do?

A PSU is rated to run at +/-5% and that is well within it's rating. As for wether ists big enough there is no way we can say as you still did not give full system specs.
If it won't run with the third stick of RAM then pull it out for the moment and see if the system will boot again. If it does then during post you will see a Bios version listed. That board only supports Bios versions to 2.2 at the moment so please also list what actuall Bios version you have.
Ok, have booted with one instead of two sticks (one works, two don't, do not have three sticks)..
AMIBIOS A6702VMS v2.2 released 030405. The autodetect settings (at startup): Clock = 400Mhz, CAS 2.5 which seems correct.

  • PSU for K8T Neo-FIS2R

What model of PSU has its cooling fans which can be controlled from PWFAN1 and PWFAN2 on the K8T Neo-FIS2R motherboard?
    Kaz

Sorry but there is no real specific one out there that I have ever seen. Most of the Bios options you see have been available since forever with Via Chipsetted boards. However DOT is specific to MSI which is Dynamic Overclocking technolodies. DOT can automatically overclock your voard depending one what your doing. I recommend staying away from it as it can cause as many issues as anything in your rig. And then there is Cool and Quiet which is an AMD 64 Bit CPU specific option to downclock the multipliers for the CPU during Idle Times to save energy and keep the CPU cool. Again it is not really needed.
The rest of the stuff you can use google to find individually or by searching for Award Bios's or Via Chipset Bios settings.
These are way to much for any one person to post a complete guide to here as all the info is readily available elsewhere.

Do a floppy drive flash with the correct switches.  Go back to the last bios that worked properly or try Pinochio's bios which a lot of people like.  Liveupdate will mess up your bios.  So can winflash if you do not use it correctly.

After you have read about it, do this using the correct flash utilty file name and the correct  bios file name
"DOS floppy flash shall be performed with :
    awfl833d.exe w7030nms.180 /py /sn /wb /cc /cd /cp /f /e
(Replace biosfilename with appropriate version for Neo1/neo2 etc , switches remain the same )
    After flash is complete :
TURN OFF PSU (don't restart) wait 15 seconds
Turn on again , press the power button .
Enter BIOS and load optimized defaults (NO OTHER CHANGES) , save + exit
Boot the system again with the floppy in the drive to let the DMI pool build and update itself .
    Good luck.

nForce is not more stable then VIA, absolutely not.
When you prefer stability, go with VIA chip
when you want a good overclicker with some stability isues, go for the nForce.
My advice: see my signature and you know .....
What sort of stability issues are we talking about here?
    BSOD's?

  • K8T Neo FISR2, possible issues

Hi all, I'm a new K8T Neo FISR2 user, currently board is enroute along with a 3400+ DTR cpu via Newegg, but I also frequent another forum where a gentleman here has some issues that I find curious, can anyone shed any light or insight here? Thanks to all...

    Hi
That guy, if he had read a few of the posts here, would know an audigy 1 don't work, an audigy 2 is fine.
His other points show more about his lack of ability than the gear he is using. his disk isn't dead. He is dealing with a technolgy he knows little about, his loss.
This is a superb board and CPU, it is new so there, as always, will be teething probs. Very few considering the huge step forward this is.
I am sure that if you have any probs, they will be sorted here in no time, as the knowledge base here is getting quite advanced.
Enjoy your new machine, just follow the advice in these threads on Memory and PSUs - the 2 main prob areas
    Cheers

  • Best bios settings for K8T Neo + Athlon 64 3200+ + ATI 9700 Pro ?

Hi, i just got my k8T Neo (MS-6702) and can't figure out the best/most stable settings in the bios for my system yet. I am mainly using my computer for GAMES, so this is what i am talking about when i say "optimization"
I got an ATI 9700 Pro, an Athlon 64 3200+ and 2x512 mb of Kingston Value Ram (bank 1 and 2).
The main settings i really don't know how to set are:
    -Internal Cache
    -External Cache
    -System Bios Cacheable
    -C000, 32k Shadow
    -MPS Revision
    -AGP Fastwrite
    -AGP Aperture Size
I wish i could get rid of any instability problems, i had a few crashes so far. Yet, i would like to set my system to get the most of my hardware in terms of speed.
Thanks in advance for your help guys !

    internal cache-on
    external cache-on
    system bios-disabe
    c shadow stuff-disable
agp fastwrite on unless you have problems, you'll know fast
agp apperature size..depends on sys ram if over 512 best to atleast 128, if not 256
(official recomadation is 1/2 your system ram)
disable any onboard stuff you dont use like sound, sata controlers,
    quick boot enable. smart enable
logo disable, floppy drive seek disable,
i wouldnt mess with mps table version.
power management to s3 usb wake enable..power management agm-disable
suspend time-disable-...set wakeup events hit enter, choose kbc & or mouse.
    that should get you started.

  • [Help]IDE3 for MSI875 neo FISR2

    I buy the new PC
    MSI 875 Neo FISR2
    Intel 2.66B (533)
Kingston 512x2 PC400 MHZ (dual channel)
    IBM 120GBx2 (8M cache)
    Sony DVDROM
    LITEON CDRW 52x24x52
    MSI FX5200 128M 8x
    Windows XP Professional SP1
Bf Installing New HD, I already install OS and everything. And it seems perfectly. I check the HD DMA setting and it shoe UDMA 5. Now I want to add one HD(WD 100GB) to IDE3.
    1.   In Bios I set “Onboard Promise IDE” to “As Raid”, Windows XP cannot find the third HD . but if you boot in dos mode, dos can find the third HD. And windows XP boot very slow. And I check the DMA for HD, now it’s PIO mode
    2.   In Bios I set “Onboard Promise IDE” to “As SATA”, Windows XP can find the third HD . And windows XP boot very slow. And I check the DMA for HD, now it’s PIO mode
For the above two situations, I try to change cable, reinstall windows xp (overwrite), delete the IDE control in device manager, but it remains the same result.
So today I decide to format c drive and see whether DMA will be set back.
Can any buddy give me some suggestions? Thanks a lot.

    samlily
You make no mention of installing the Promise drivers from the Drivers and Utilities CD
There are two drivers, one for IDE and one for Raid, only install the driver you need
    Example
One Drive on IDE 3, Set Bios as SATA, install Promise IDE Driver
    Hope this helps
    Pete

  • Athlon 64: Highest 3x00 CPU for K8T Neo?

For my MSI K8T Neo system (described below), what's the highest in the 3x00+ CPU series that works with my board (Socket 754)?

Cool! Thanks for the quick response. Guess what I meant was "What's the highest Socket 754 CPU in the 3x00 series"... LOL

  • K8T Neo FISR2 and Initial BIOS settings

I’ve have a YANQ… (Yet Another Newbie Question)
Are there any recommendations for initial BIOS settings for a new build?  I checked southmike’s  “My Unofficial K8t Neo Guide”  and searched posts.  I realize that many settings are based on Memory Configuration, OCing, personal preferences, etc.  But what I’m wondering if there is a basic configuration that has shown to be a good starting point for first time bring up?
I have not received my board yet, so if this is covered in the manual, sorry for wasting the space
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!

    Hi
Apart from the Boot Sequence and the SATA / IDE settings you want, the best thing is run at safe defaults, and everything on auto, the mobo is good at selecting the best settings for good performance. And will probably perform better than if you try to tamper.
There is a lot of things to help you DOT, Core Center, etc.
    cheers

  • Audio Connections and K8T NEO FISR2

The audio connection on my Wavemaster case has the following connections:
    R-OUT
    MIC IN
    GND
    L-OUT
They are all 4 single pin connectors.
    The NEO FISR2 has:
    AUD-MIC
    AUD-GND
    AUD-MIC BIAS
    AUD-VCC
    AUD-FPOUT-R
    AUD-RET-R
    HP-ON
    KEY
    AUD-FPOUT-L
    AUD-RET-L
Any ideas as to what the proper connections should be?  The only one I’m sure on is the ground.  I’ve tried a few combinations with no luck.  I’m beginning to wonder if I have a bad daughter card on the Wavemaster or something wrong with the board???

    Thanks SAB and southmike,
I'll try that, though I think I'm having sound problems in general.  I installed an Audigy2 ZS.  I'm getting no sound at all.  Here is what is really strange.  When I disable the Audio 97 option in Bios, Cool and Quite gives me an error saying that a device file can not be found and that cool and quiet is incompatible with my notherboard.  When Audio 97 is re-enabled the message goes away
    Any ideas?

  • Should I update BIOS for K8T Neo?

I recently rebuilt my system around my old K8T Neo Fis2r.  Just wondering if you guys think its worth my while to update to the last BIOS using Live Update.  I'm running the original BIOS right now.  I figure if it aint broke don't fix it, and I'm not trying to overclock or anything.  Does the most recent BIOS even offer any better overclocking then the original BIOS?  The K8T Neo is not much of an overclocking board anyway.

    dont recommend flashing in windows.
better to do it with a floppy but not from a floppy.
check what the latest bios fixes compared to the one you use now and make your decision after that but if it all works there is no reason to update.

  • Which BIOS shall I use for " K8T Neo -FSR"??

I bought  a MSI K8T Neo- FSR board yesterday. But when I looked at the MSI web site I haven't seen ...FSR board, I only see ...FS2R board instead. So which BIOS shall I download and flash? There is also no any explanation about FSR. My board carries the BIOS V1.1. On the other hand it writes this informatin on the board; " K8t Neo 6702 rev. 1.0"

...here's the product page...I found it the other day but I can't remember how   ...got lucky, I guess...
...BIOS version?..I've always used Live Update in Windows...just follow the directions to the letter...there are beta versions available in the forums...the current one is getting good reviews...

  • K8T-NEO FISR2 -- RAM Help / Reccomendations please

    Hi all,
I have a couple of unbranded 512M sticks of RAM at the moment in my machine, but I have some money burning a hole in my pocket, and so I was thinking of buying some performance RAM.
Firstly, how do I inspect my current RAM timings? in the BIOS it all says AUTO!?
Secondly, what would you reccomend for my new RAM?
    Thanks
    Rolfey

    Thanks for your replys,
I won a couple of quid playing online poker, and that was why I fancied treating myself to a RAM upgrade. I wasnt sure what was best to get, so I posted here. I looked at lotta of the stuff available and noticed that the matched pairs of RAM had lower timings across the board, but it seemed it was designed for use on dual channel systems, and of course, mine isn't.
So, I made a compromise and went for some GEIL RAM that was on offer, I am hoping to sell my old RAM for about £50~£60, the GEIL stuff has cost me £80. I am currently running RAM with 3-3-3-8 timing set by SPD.  The GEIL stuff I have bought suggests it runs at 2.5-3-3-6 at 400MHz, but once again, its a matched pair. I'll do a little benchmarking and see how it works out.
At the very least I can see if what differnece it makes if any, and give myself half a chance of an informed decision on my next RAM purchase if I am lucky at the poker tables again!!
    Thanks, Rolfey out...

  • K8T Neo Fisr2 (MS-6702 v1.0) BIOS update

Firstly I'd like to say hello to everybody since this is my first post on this forum:)
I was trying to install Vista ultimate x64 on my computer, but it did not find my hard drive (maxtor 80gb sata). I read in the internet that the person with the same problem updated his BIOS and the problem was solved. Now, when i checked  my Bios version on Live update, it said that there is no newer version(i have 2.2). Then i checked on my motherboard's website (http://global.msi.com.tw/index.php?func=downloaddetail&type=bios&maincat_no=1&prod_no=565) and it says that there is a newer version (7.1). Should I update or no? If yes how should i do it?
    Thanks

You need to download the zip from this page http://www.viaarena.com/default.aspx?PageID=420&OSID=37&CatID=3000&SubCatID=143 called vraid_driver_v550b.zip
Extract the zip to a temp folder and go to: VRAID_Driver_V550B\VRAIDDrv\drvdisk\x64\driver - copy the contents of that folder to a disk (preferably floppy).
Now start your vista setup and when it asks for a partition to install on, click "load driver" - select the disk
