RAM issues, DIMM2 & DIMM4 slots not working?

I have three sticks of the same RAM, the Ballistix. My system runs fine with two sticks in DIMM 1 and DIMM 3. If I try to install a third stick into DIMM2, my system won't book. Same with DIMM4.
All sticks of RAM work, since the system boots with any combination of sticks as long as they are in DIMMs 1 and 3.
Am I doing something wrong? Any help would be much appreciated.

To get the iPod in recovery mode and DFU mode you first have to turn the iPod off.
Just what is the problem you are tying to resolve?
Sometimes you have to let the battery fully drain if you can't turn the iPod off. After charging for at least hour try again.

I think on your notebook are missing some drivers.
The SM Bus Controller driver is in the chipset driver package. So try to install it and maybe it works.
The drivers you can find on the Toshiba website.
Have you installed it with a Microsoft disk? The Toshiba recovery disk creator contains all necessary drivers and tools that you need and so this would be maybe an option for you to reinstall the OS.

Ram slots not working after CMOS reset

Im using MSI K9N Neo V2 mb, and it was doing fine until i reseted CMOS. Now 3 out of 4 ram slots are not recognized by BIOS nor Windows. Im sure that ram memory is ok, cause ive checked all of it by replacing it between ram slots, and they're only working in slot nr 4.
I know that the MB is old, but everything was working fine, and suddenly went wrong after CMOS reset
Things i did to fix:
Updated BIOS
Msconfig memory uncheck box
Cleared CMOS with jumper
Replaced CMOS BAT
Checked if smth's wrong with cpu
Cleared RAM slots with rubbing alcohol
System wont even boot without memory in DIMM 4 (ram slot 4), and BIOS only recognizes memory in DIMM 4
This is really frustrating, because there is no reason for smth to not work all of a sudden

There is a known issue with Powerbooks with the lower memory slot failing, and it sounds like yours may be starting to fail. At one point there was an Apple recall for a small sliver of Powerbook systems to fix that.
The alternatives are to run with 1GB in the upper slot, try one of the internet vendors that say they can fix that (check references), or install a used logic board. I don't believe Apple is repairing Powerbooks anymore, so if you want to buy a used logic board, you'll need to install it yourself, or perhaps an Apple Authorized Service Provider would be willing to do the work.

RAM slots not working (lower)

Hi folks - I had a problem with my PowerBook running very slowly. Helpful friends suggested increasing the RAM. When I set about doing this I found that there were two 256 Mb cards in the machine.
I replaced them both with 1 Gb cards and the Mac was back to a speedy machine. Not long after thanking my friends, I got a 'fatal message' telling me I must restart the machine. When I did this there was no 'sueme' sound and I was back to only 1 Gb of RAM. The lower slot was empty according to the system profiler.
I went to bed dejected!
This morning I removed both 1 Gb cards put back the 256 Mb cards and the machine booted up as usual with 512 Mb of RAM.
So I have put back the 1 Gb cards and have a 2 Gb machine again.
Does anyone know what went wrong? Will it happen again? Do I need to have the machine looked at by a specialist?

MSI-7125 K8N neo4f ram slots not working

I have had this motherboard for a little over a year and a few days ago I was on the internet got up for a minute came back and the display was black, I reset the computer and it wouldn't come back on so I disconnected the power cable opened the case and started looking around and couldn't see any physical problems with the board so I took the Video card out, then the ram disconnected the hard drives and optical drives I cleared the CMOS by taking out the battery and leaving it disconnected for 20 minutes,after that time I reinstalled all the components and pushed the power button you could hear it botting up the hard drives and optical drives all the fans were running but no display, So I thought to myself check the ram I started trying different ram slots and there it is the only slot that would work with a single stick of ram was slot #2(purple) and the only slots that would work for 2 sticks were both of the purple slots, I had read the manual and this was very strange considering it say's not to install ram into the purple slots while the green ones were not in use, I am not sure why this just started with no warning I have always use the first 2 slots since I purchased this and never had a problem with this motherboard except for my North bridge fan starting to slow down I replaced it before it quit working other than that I haven't done anything else to it. I would extremely appreciate it if someone could help me out with this problem sorry for such a long post.

Well I've been working on computer's professionally(for place I worked) and privately tried supplemented my income for a while, and most of the problems I seen was either memory related or OS related, I know it wasn't my OS been running fine for a month or so after re-format and just figured it had to be ram related and started checking it out and I was correct . Although I never seen this problem before and that it is aggravating( I just received an email from MSI) and it said I was at the end of my 3 year warranty and that it will cost me $45 bux for them to check it out. I just bought this last year dont see how that is possible. I guess I'll try to redo BIOS to 5.2 and see what happens.

RAM slot not working

Hey everyone,
I recently bought some RAM for my Mac Book Pro. It came with 1gb, and I bought two 1gb sticks. I put in both sticks of new RAM and my computer would come on but the screen would remain blank. After doing some tests, I found that the lower RAM tray was not working with the old or new RAM stick, and that the upper tray worked with the new and old one. Has this happened to anyone, or anyone have any suggestions on fixes? I tried canned air and it hasn't helped. Currently, I am using the new RAM stick in the upper tray, but would obviously like to take advantage of the lower tray as well.

Sounds like bad news, I'm afraid, Davide. It is likely that the slot itself is damaged. I have seen situations where RAM "reappeared" in the past after an SMC or PRAM reset, but I doubt this is your problem here. Still worth trying, I guess.
Run the Apple Hardware test (on one of the DVDs that originally came with your computer) too, but I suspect it will either need a motherboard repair or replacement.

RAM Slot Not Working for Macbook 2009 - Looking for Alternatives

Tested RAM slots and found that the second slot (slot closest to interior of computer) is not working properly. Switched both 4gb cards in back slot and the computer would not start up, only would beep....definitely not faulty RAM cards because they both work in the first slot.
I've researched this on forums briefly, the consensus seems to be logic board replacement.
I really don't want to invest more money into this older computer - Macbook Pro mid-2009.
Are there any other troubleshooting options here? I don't think it's the OS and do not have any Time Machine data set up before Mac X nor do I have an partitions set up on an external.
The computer is not terribly slow but when using Final Cut Pro X it tends to lag. All of the specs for my computer fall in the recommendations for using with FC10
Could I get an 8gb RAM card for slot 1?
Any advice would be much appreciated.

Does not look like it supports 16 GBs of RAM meaning only 4 GBs/slot.

Need Help...bottom ram slot not working MBP

I have a mid 2009 MBP, i upgraded the ram to 4gb per slot a couple years ago. I did some troubleshooting and found the bottom slot is now inoperable...
3 questions:
1. Any tricks to get that bottom slot working, besides loosening the screws, or using an eraser and then a lead pencil on the connection prongs... which was suggested in ohter threads.
2. Can i use one 8gb ram in the one operable slot?
3. Where can i find a replacement part for this problem?
Any info would be greatly appreciated!

RAM Allocation and Media Transcoding not working?

So as much as I love Final Cut Pro X and all of the great new features, I've come across two big concerns that I can't seem to fix or find a solution too.
1. I have heard that FCPX can basically use as much RAM that you can throw at it. This to me means that the more I get, the quciker things will Render, and Transcode and editing should be smoother. Considering that my iMac (Quad Core i7 3.4 ghz) is the latest model and it only came with 4gb of RAM, I decided to upgrade my RAM. I recently bought and installed 32 gb (4 sticks fo 8gb) of RAM. I know the Maximum says 16gb, however Crucial claims to have done significant testing on the RAM and says that the i7 can in fact work with it no problem and it seems to show up and work so far. My main concern though is that even with all of that RAM FCPX doesn't seem to be using nearly that much. I tried giving it tasks such as transcoding some files and applying a lot of effects to things in the timeline and it only seems to be using about 3 or 4 gbs worth of RAM, which is nothing compared to the 32gb that it should be using. I literally have things waiting to be transcoded or rendered when I ahve plenty of free RAM just waiting to be used. To me this doesn't seem correct. Does FCPX have some sort of RAM allocation control or does anyone know what I can do to make FCPX realize I have that much RAM and tell it to use it? Has anyone else had this issue? I was thinking maybe erasing the preference files? Maybe something in the preferences thinks that the RAM is still only 4gb?
2. My second question is in regards to Transcoding. I've read alot online that says it is best to Transcode your footage to Pro Res on Import to make sure it is at the optimal settings to edit in FCPX. My original footage is h.264 from my DSLR and works, but if I can convert it to Pro Res and it runs even smooother, I would love to do so. I know this option comes up when you import, but I have recently discovered that you can right click on a files in the Event Browser and tell it to Transcode after the fact. Since I have a lot of clips I thought maybe grabbing all of hte clips at once and telling it to batch Transcode all at once would be helpful, especially considering how much RAM I have now, but it doenst seem to be working. Upon trying that I noticed the first clip goes like normal, but then it just stops. The rest of hte clips just stay frozen and don't move at all. I can play and pause the Trancoding options in the Render Window, but still nothing continues. It just stays frozen. I've tried with smaller batches and it still doesn't seem to work. Any ideas on why my transcoding just stops. I usually have to cancel that Trancode process and try again, but still nothing. Why is this happening?

If the program has enough RAM to do it's assigned work, more RAM will not speed things up. RAM does not necessarily equate to speed of operation. Transcoding still requires disk write operations.

USB ports and memory card slots not working

My Pavilion a6120n desktop has worked brilliantly ever since I purchased it. As of last week the 2 usb ports in the front and the 2 unused usb ports in the back have stopped working. My printer is plugged into one rear port and my wireless mouse is plugged into a second rear port and these work fine. I generally use a memory stick for data swapping or the card reader slots (which have also stopped working). I no longer see the memory card icons in the "Computer" window. When installing something new the "New Hardware Found" statement pops up but the driver install always fails. I think it is a software issue but there are no usb drivers to download on the HP/support site that I can find. . . so . . . Below is what I have tried so far.Run antivirus software. Full scan & memory scan - no issuesRun malewarebytes full scan - no issues I have tried restarting several times with no success. Restore to several previous restore points = failedRestarting computer in repair mode = failedRun the repair disk that I had made = failedChecked the power management for each usb port to see if the power was routed properly = okRemoved the case cover and carefully inspected the wiring and connectors.finally I tried uninstalling the usb drivers = failed Upon restarting the computer the last time the startup file must have failed and after several hours of attempting a repair I had to reinstall the Window 7 completely. Upgraded RAM and now Fan is not working.

I have upgraded my RAM to 2GB. (using video guide) Everything appeared OK, but the mac mini was overheating and shutting down after 10 - 15 minutes. It appears that the cooling fan is not working, as far as I can tell. I have checked and cannot find any loose cables, I have tried powering up with and without the fan control cable connected (next to the battery at front of mac).
I have tried the hardware test but this is OK. I have tried some software downloads for monitoring the fan speed, but these appear not to work.
Is there a cable or connect that I should be looking at? DVD, sound and all else seems OK. The memory passes all ram tests.

I think you are referring to the fan control lead, which attaches at the front of the PCB near the battery. Is this the case? I have read that this only controls the speed so you don't have to attach the cable, in fact it suggests that if you leave this disconnected the fan should run at full speed.
This is the only cable that I needed to disconnect, and have tried with it attached and disconnected, with the same issue. I am thinking that the fan is dead, or is being stopped by the magnetic tiles, I guess these are used to create a magnetic field that forces the blades to spin, so I guess if one of these has come away from the unit then it may not work. I can see that I can get a replacement fan for about $29.
Can anyone confirm that these magnetic tiles are integral to the working of the fan?

Gt70 2PC Dominator 895 USB 3.0 Slots not working

Only 1 of my 3.0 USB slots is working with my Toshiba 3.0 External HDD.
The other 2 slots would not work at all with my Toshiba drive. They will only work if I plug my Kingston USB 3.0 Flash drive or any other usb device.
What can I do to fix this?

Intel i7 4810
Nvidia GTX 870m
Windows 8.1

Disconnects when trying to autoplay and while doing anything (even sitting there). Unfortunately I don not have another laptop with usb 3.0 ports. I do however have a desktop and I can say that it works fine there. I check and there are no firmware/driver update for this model.

After ram upgrade automatic sleep is not working anymore

Some days ago I installed a second 1GB ram module in my 20" Intel iMac. After this I noticed that the automatic sleep do not work anymore. The display turns off but the iMac not. The iMac makes sounds like he wants to do to sleep but could not.
I tried everything I could find... delete OS X powermanagement prefs, run Onyx, reset the SMC.
Do anyone have an solution for this?

Yes it is the same, I had a look on this before I bought it because I wanted to use the dual-channel mode.
Also, what are your settings for sleeping your iMac?

I more thing to mention when I start the sleep mode manually everything is fine. I also tried to disconnect all external USB/Firewire hardware and tried it with a fresh mac os install on my USB HDD.

RAM issues WHY WON'T THIS WORK??!!

I bought 1 additional 2Gb stick of RAM for my MacBook Pro 2.16, all information given on Mac website, documentation etc states that this MAC is capable of handling up to 3Gb RAM. But when the new RAM is install it will not boot. I have tried everything I can think of, ensuring that both of the memory slots are good, I have installed the original RAM in the second port, the system boots fine, I have installed the new 2Gb of RAM in the original port, system boots fine, installed the new 2Gb stick in the secondary port, system boots fine, but together nothing. I am sure that the RAM is correct - 2Gig - SO-DIMM DDR2 SDRAM 667Mhz.... Not to mention the system boots fine without the original 1Gb RAM, but honestly I didn't spend the money to have only 2Gb RAM !!
Has anyone any ideas ??

Hi AW1979: In doing a little checking, I see that there are 2 versions of the 2.16gHz 17" MacBook Pro. The earlier version is capable of supporting only 2gB of RAM. The second version can support 3gB. Is it possible that yours is the version from Spring/Summer of 2006?
