Ram Issues

I Have 2 sticks of ram worked fine together for 3weeks running at ddr400. Today I restart my system and I get a nopost. I check the lights and I have  Early Chipset Initalization. Also I can boot and use the computer with 1 stick of ram out tested with both sticks. So I know it is not the ram. I have also rum memtest86 and no problems with either stick.  Any help would be great.

Hi
Can be various things, such as, Ram going down, PSU not producing as well as it did, change in setting or timing somewhere.  Not always a good thing to mix Ram, are the timings the same.
Run memtest86+ on both sticks seperately, then together, sometimes Dimm2 gives problems. Try dimms 1 & 3. Memtest here, make a floppy. Then boot from it.
http://www.memtest.org/
You can also raise the DDR volts a little in Bios at Frequency/Voltage Control
If you are gettinfg a lot of errors on memtest try Ram at DDR333, may solve the problem.

  • RAM Issues: 4GB installed, 1GB showing After blinking light

    Hey Folks,
After doing some research online I found that my recent issue, which has come up in the past, was probably a RAM seating issue. The issue where the Fan begins running loudly at hyper speed. I forced a shut down, restarted up and saw no issue. Shortly there after the issue returned. I forced a shut down once more, but this time was met with a blinking power light.
I remembered from past experience that it was a sign of RAM issues so I unplugged, unseated and reseated all four of the RAM on my cards. Initial start up was met with same response. In fact it wasn't until the 6th or 7th seating and reseating, and RAM position switch that I got the computer to start back up. (The initial successful start up was with one card and what should have been 2GB.)  I checked the About this Mac.. and saw Memory listed as 1GB 667  MHz DDR2 FB-DIMM. The 1GB threw me off because at that moment there should have been 2.
Shortly there after I backed some things up and tried reseating the other card with the other 2 gigs in it. This time I was able to start up however the System still shows the Memory as 1GB 667 MHz...
I did notice a single red light on one of the cards and am curious if this is trying to tell me anything, or if this is an indication of a poor installation. Also looking for any advice on why the computer is not seeing all 4 gigs, and if some of them may be out of service.
Any advice would be much appreciated, and please pardon my lingo because I'm not sure all my wording is correct.
    Thanks

If they have a reseller's sticker on them, like Otherworld computing or 1-800-Memory or such, call them and ask for lifetime warranty replacements. Otherwise, think hard about how much RAM you really need and go buy some.

  • RAM ISSUES A215-S7407 - PSAFGU-01V002 SUSPEND MODE ERROR WITH 4GB RAM

Hi, im having some troubles with my laptop.
Because it comes only winth 1GB RAM (512MB x 2) i decided to give it an upgrade to 4GB (Max Capcity) according to specifications details on the support site. So i bought two (2) DIMM Modules KINGSTON 2GB 667MHZ, exact model # KVR667D2S5/2G Everything was working fine until i close the lid and it suspend.
Normally, when i open the lid, it will wake up, and everything will work fine, BUT NOW when it wakes up i have distorted sound and horizontal lines on screen, and sometimes i get a BSOD (BLUE SCREEN OF DEATH) and it restart itself.
    TEST THAT I MADE:
ONLY 1 DIMM of 2GB  - IT SUSPEND AND WAKES UP NORMALLY (I tested both Dimms 2GB separately)
    1 DIMM 2GB / 1 DIMM 1GB (TOTAL 3GB) - IT SUSPEND AND WAKES UP NORMALLY
2 DIMMs 2GB  (TOTAL 4GB) - IT SUSPEND AND WAKES UP WITH DISTORTED SOUND AND HORIZONTAL LINES ON DISPLAY.
It seems like the problem appears only with Max. Capacity (4GB) RAM and only when it suspend CLOSE THE LID (POWER LED CHANGE COLOR BLUE TO ORANGE AND FADES AND COMES).
With Hibernation, it works fine, the problem is when it suspend.
It looks that the problem is on the motherboard, maybe a NEW BIOS RELEASE that fix the situation.
I appreciate if somebody can speak to TOSHIBA SUPPORT DEVELOPER and ask them for an BIOS Update.
i know that im not the only one with this problem, there is another person that wrote a post "RAM ISSUES" and refers to the same situation, but as i guess, it wasn't solved at all.

Make sure you install the memory when the light is not flashing, i.e. completly off not sleeping.
What if you try adjusting - MSCONFIG/Advanced Options/Maximum Memory

  • RAM issues continued

    Hey everyone!
I was just reading an archived post from around this time last year entitled "Strange RAM issue." I too have had a strange RAM issue and specifically with my G4 PowerBook (15", 1GHz) and OWC. I also wanted to upgrade from 512 to 1GB and could never get the machine to work at 1GB. I am currently in the process of sending back my third consecutive OWC brand RAM to them and they are finally going to send me some TechWorks memory that I'm hoping will work. I just can't believe...every single set of memory they've sent me has tested out "fine" to them either after I sent it back or in the latest case even before they sent it to me. But it never works in my computer and always fails the Rember test.
Their latest take on it is that the Rember test isn't always reliable and that it's probably a problem with the memory port in the computer in that it won't accept outside (aka non-Apple) memory. What are some people's thoughts on this? Is it possible that the memory port could work just fine with the original computer's RAM and not with new RAM? Is there any truth to Rember not being all that reliable of a test? (If so, why would they have you use it?)
I'm really getting frustrated with OWC and I was wondering if that's just me or have other people had this same problem?

APPLE HAS A RECALL for this! READ BELOW AND SAVE SOME MONEY!!!!
Anyone with these issues needs to see this link. Apple has a recall going for G4 15" AL PBs because one of the two RAM slots die. Mine has been "fixed" twice under this program. There's a number to call to get started. Be forewarned, the person on the end of that phone is not the sharpest tool in the tool box. I had to show him where the recall was on Apple's site and how to interpret it. He had to keep putting me on hold to check with a Powerbook Expert (his title was only Powerbook Specialist). They send you a nice prepaid DHL 24 hr turn around shipping box. First time was great. Second time it came back covered in sticky. greasy fingerprints and the metal around the case screws has been badly scratched. I'm still waiting for Apple to address this but since they found 3rd party RAM in my PB, this is my punishment. FWIW, if you let it go in the broken state too long, bad things could happen. Something from the corrupted RAM wrote to my HD and ended up causing all sorts of issues. A reformat and reinstall was the only cure. Here's the link: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303173
A few private repair places on the web get over a grand for this repair. The repair is a complete new main logic board exchange. Big bucks.

  • Creating an Aperture web page from photos the page goes white and nothing displays. Is this a RAM issue?

I have just purchased an iMac 27" 2.7GHZ running OSX 10.7.4 with 4GB RAM (16 GB has been ordered). I am using Aperture 3.3.2. When I attempt to create a web page from photos the page goes white and nothing displays. Is this a RAM issue?

I have resolved the issue....turns out that, in my case, running OSX 10.8.1 with Aperture 3.3.2 was what was required! I was running Aperture 3.3.2 with OSX 10.7.x and had this issue.
I hope this helps someone else as well.

  • X-Fi Xtreme Audio & 4GB RAM issue - latest driver?

    :X-Fi Xtreme Audio & >4GB RAM issue - latest driver?T Hi All,
Been using an X-Fi Xtreme Audio with 4GB RAM for ages, no issues.
I purchased and installed a zotac 9600 GT which has GB onboard ram, which works fine, but now my X-Fi has started causing general system instability. (processes using heaps of CPU time whilst apparently doing not much, jerky/slow adobe flash, distorted (slow-motion) audio at random times, etc etc.
In the support section here it says:
Audio issue from output from soundcard with computer having 4GB RAM:
    <span class="text">
Keywords: <font>4GB ram, installation, xfi, x-fi
Summary: Customers with computers having <font>4GB or above of RAM and are experiencing audio issues, please download the latest driver for your sound card.
However... When this issue first came up I formatted my primary dri've, reinstalled the OS and downloaded the latest drivers for EVERYTHING. The problem has prevailed..
It was only yesterday that I tracked down this problem in the support section here, and tried to verify that my driver is indeed the latest. But device manager lists the driver as "6.0.0.209" when in the support section here the downloads are named ".xx.xxxx" or something. How can I confirm that I have the latest driver? In any case, I'm almost certain that I have the latest, and this issue is still occuring.
I have read in other forums that on other varients of my X-FI card, the latest drivers have not solved this problem either.. sorry I cant be more accurate than that.
For now, I have solved this problem by simply removing 2GB of ram from my PC. Obviously, I'd like to find a solution and put the other 2GB back in!
Thanks in advance for your help!

Could DanielK please mod this as well, so we can try them. Or Daniel, you could you please tell me how you modified the previous drivers from auzentech as I dont know how these CL drivers work and are modified. What is the inf in these drivers, and if you could tell me the deviceID?s of all the x-fi models, or atleast for x-fi xtreme music as it is my modell. Thx in advance!
    EDIT:
I have modified the drivers, was not so hard after all. Im uploading the file now, which should have support for all X-FI cards thanks to Daniel's great job with the earlier version.
Upload finished in 4-5minutes. I will post with link soon to rapidshare!

    Hey Daniel,
First it would be helpful to know exactly which iBooks you're talking about.
CPU speed, screen size, OS and RAM installed.
So how do you know the all three have onboard RAM issues? Does system profiler just show the 0 slot as empty?

  • V11 firmware RAM issues...what worked for me

I think everyone that has upgraded to the v11 firmware has by now noticed the RAM issues in the v11 firmware for the N95 (At least in the European generic firmware).
The cause of this problem appears to be the 23 or so programs the firmware installs into the phone memory that are all related to the "Search" application on the phone.
I uninstalled them all and the RAM problems went away.
To get rid of them go to Tools > Application Manager and uninstall everything you see related to search.
While I was at it I got rid of Snakes, the System Rush game and the settings and welcome wizards.
Note that this will remove the Search application from your phone entirely so do so at your own risk.
An alternative is to move it to your memory card if you wish.

The problem you are having is a DNS issue.
Somewhere along the line your DNS address(s) became deleted from the network System Preferences for your 'active' connection (e.g Airport). It probably was set to default to your local (home) router.
This basically means that safari can not find the web site you attempt to load, so it waits for a very long time.
You can add in the DNS address(s) by either going to System Preferences / Network and selecting your active network connection / DNS tab. OR you can go to Safari Preferences / Advanced and then click the "advanced" button which will take you to the System preferences panel.
The DNS server is provided by your ISP in most cases, or you can use the "Open DNS" servers at 208.67.222.222, & 208.67.220.220.

  • Green frames on timeline. RAM issue? GPU issue?

    Hi guys!
    Have anyone experienced that?
These green frames at timeline. After that my Program Monitor freezes and crashes and soon after Premiere too. There is no wat out. It freezes and doesn't close.
I am using Premier Pro CC 2014 at Windows 7 Home Premium.
Another thing: Adobe recommend 8GB of RAM and I have these 8GB and constantly apears RAM low memory, sometimes it crashes just after the message. It can be a low RAM issue? So why Adobe recommend 8GB if it's not enough?
Maybe GPU? It is a GT540m with all drivers updated and working well on non-Adobe softwares.
    Thanks!

Thank you for your prompt answer.
I have just read the article you linked over.
Had read one of 'em earlier but they're interesting to understand how Mavericks work, I still have some points of interrogation.
If we consider the figue on how memory compression works, it seems like it is all good but it still doesn't account for why I am using more memory for the same runing processes. I mean, in my case it does not free up memory in the general sense, it litteraly eats memory and THEN frees it up when needed. And why devices use more than twice the memory than others.... this is nuts to me.
I forget to mention a few things. A friend of mine has the exact same configuration of mbpr. And here is what's crazy, he doesn't seem to use any comparable ram amount than I do, even when I lauch it all out on his mac he never uses more than 5gigs....although we had no internet connection at the time so I assume that might be the reason why ram usage was less important, I really don't know.
I know activity monitor ram monitoring comprises file cache too but when I run the 'top' command in terminal, it is kinda the same, just a bit lower let's say the 1 to 3 gigs of file cache that is taken into account in activity monitor and not in temrinal.
Anyways, I guess I'll will keep faith in apple technology as I can't pretend there is any performance drop that I was able to observe.... even with a bad taste in mouth that something is wrong that I can't point my finger at

  • N95 + CoPilot 7 - Possible RAM issue

    Hello,
I have had my N95 for a couple of weeks and I must admit I love the phone in every way. However I am noticing a small issue when running CoPilot and was wondering if this sounds like a RAM issue.
Basically when the app is running sometimes it seems to just lockup (usually if rereouting), occasionally the app will close (especially if I get a message through) or even reboot the whole phone.
I have installed Handy Taskman and I have noticed that when it all goes wrong I have about 100k of free RAM which would suggest that the phone is running low on memory (or very close to it).
Now unfortunatly I only seem to have 13Mb available at the best of times but I am also on a T-Mobile handset running v12 (before demmand paging and the RAM boost).
Spoke to T-Mobile about the updates to v20 and v21, they have no release date. Altough I have noticed that the T-Mobile site no longer has the N95+CoPilot option since they have moved to v7, which is puzzling, maybe the lack of the v20 update means that the app does not run that well, although that is just speculation on my part.
Anyway, I really like the N95 but this memory issue is bugging me. I am considering sending the phone back to T-Mobile and buying a SIM free one so I can update it. Tried local Nokia service center and I already have the latest software for my phone (v12).
If I do get a phone with v20 (or v21) how much extra RAM will I get, and more importantly how much free memory? If I say CoPilot needs about 14Mb - 15Mb free to run well am I likely to get this with the latest software from Nokia?
I know there are ways to get the latest updates on my phone but I don't want to risk it, would much rather send this one back and buy one from Nokia.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
    Lee

Send it back to T-Mobile and buy directly from Nokia.

  • The infamous RAM issue with bootcamp

Sp, I have seen a lot of threads about RAM issues when using bootcamp.
I'm about to install Windows XP SP 3 using bootcamp - how much RAM will be utilized when using my windows partition?
I have a MBP 2.33 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo with 3 GB RAM and Radeon X 1600 256 mb RAM.
    Looking forward to your responses.
    Thanks

This is not so much an issue with Bootcamp as it is an issue with Windows. On any machine, Mac or PC, Windows will only recognize approximately 3GB of RAM. The only Windows Operating Systems that are capable of going higher are the 64-bit OS choices. So, if and when you upgrade your MacBook Pro to 4GB of RAM, Windows will still only see 3GB. Just a heads-up.

RAM issues regarding CPU + Mobo & OC'ing

Ok...but the problem was increasing the FSB.....and as for increasing the memory, I realise I have to change it back to 200mhz, but Im getting to that part after I overclock the CPU, I guess thats how its suppost to go? According to the guide Im using anyway...I dont understand how you can test one of them at a time, seeing as increasing the FSB increases the RAM frequencing.
You are testing one at a time by lowering the memory to 100.   Increasing the "FSB" will result in memory speed less the 200, we know the memory is good up to 200, so...  This way you are pushing the CPU to it's limit but the memory is still running far less then what it can.   In this example the CPU max speed is found then you bring up the memory like you said above.

Also, there would be no point in getting PC4000 RAM seeing as the Neo4 platinum only supports up to PC3200, plus I was thinking of getting OCZ 2GB (2x1GB Kit) EL DDR PC-3200 Dual Channel Platinum Kit (CL 2-3-2-5) anyway, looks like its good RAM.
That's just because there isn't an official PC4000 spec.  It will run fine and can use it's potential in this board although if we can't get you higher then 225HTT(FSB) then PC4000 is overkill, as you wouldn't quite max out PC3700 right now.  I've seen memory running at 350Mhz(700Mhz) in your board.  That's like PC5600!  Rule number one, don't believe MSI.
I like that OCZ kit you are talking about.

  • A question about performance ( ram issue? )

Small question. I have a Macbook Pro unibody - it has a Corsair Solid State Drive in it. 4 gigs of ram. I have an external hard drive with a few hundred movies on it. Each movie's icon is notated with a picture of a flag where the movie's origin is. Anywho. When I click the HD to look at all my movies, it takes a bit for all of the pictures to load for the icons. Not only that when I scroll up or down some of the icon pics will disappear, then reappear. In other words - it's slow.
I previously had 8gb of ram in my 17 inch pro (i have a 15 now) - and I don't remember having this problem - but i don't really remember much. My question is - do you think this is a ram issue, an external hard drive issue - as in, it's not super fast, or some other issue. What can i do so when i open this folder up, I don't have serious lag time for the icons to show up? I think it's not a ram issue, i'm guessing it's an external issue - not so much that the external has a problem just that it's now fast, but want to check here to make sure. thanks.

How are you accessing the external harddrive? Firewire 800 is going to be faster than USB2.0 This I would expect, not RAM.
A faster connection or a faster external HD I suspect would be the answer.

  • Need help ASAP: ram issues for neo4 plat

I just bought a new case, motherboard, ram, video card, power supply, and CPU. i took my drives from my old Dell and placed them into this case and the MSI neo4 plat. motherboard (specs in my sig). i just want my comp to work but it doesn't want to. it powers up and does nothing. you just hear fans going. the LED on the D-bracket says that its a ram issue. the ram worked fine last night and i had a video card problem it said. any ideas or am i just completely screwed? i use my computer a lot and need to do some things before i leave for a wedding on the 15th with my family and won't be back til the 25th. i'd like to resolve any issues before i leave so i can relax about it when i get back. i spent all of my money on this and i dont' want it wasted cause i messed it all up and even my parents helped pay for the part i couldn't pay as a birthday present. i'm annoyed, impatient, and probably acting childish over what probably is a stupid petty thing.

OK, well the first improvement is there
Sometimes it will help to remove a component and then put it back in the same position, make sure it is fully inserted in the slot. This goes for both the video card and the memory.
    1. you can clear cmos (see in your manual)
    2. reseat videocard
    3. try the other ram module, try different slots
ah you see i did all that already, and it did nothing :P
would you by any chance want to help me on MSN?
this is my second computer assembly. i'm very fluent with comps which is why this is driving my crazy:P
also the heatsink and everything is fine. i'm always the guy that has the weirdest problem thats hard to solve. i should be a professional software tester or something... just don't know how to get there. i'm more of a musician anyway...

  • Kernel Panic and RAM issues

about a week ago I got my first ever kernel panic . This coincided with the mac completely running out of battery due to being on a holiday. Sometimes I can get on without an issue for a while until it shuts down and either tells me there is a kernel panic or it does the three beep black screen. From what I have researched its a ram issue. from memory I have 2x2gb rams installed but it may be 4gb I'm not 100% sure and I cant get on to check. I'm pretty sure its not a software issue as I have booted up on several occasions and deleted things such as Sophos. I'm out of warranty so its up to me to get this show back on the road. My questions:
If I can startup the computer and have it running for a while before it dies and says is a kernel panic, is it unlikely its a software related issue?
Is there any possible way of testing for dodgy rams without physically removing one at a time and seeing what happens?
Is there anything else it could be?
Can rams cause kernel panics, if so do the panic reports reflect this?
    cheers

not the point wattage ratings are meaningless its all down to how that is sub-devided on its rails as ampages i have a 1000W psu here that can't boot a single 24A graphics card as it has 4 x 20A +12v rails and is only usefull as a paper weight!
what are the ampages of its +12V rail or rails? there the important data points to pay attention to! WATTAGE OF A PSU REALLY MEANS NOTTHING ITS ALL ABOUT AMPAGE IT CAN DELIVER ON THE RAILS!!!!!! minimum Wattage psu calculations are done based on a single high ampage +12v rail and if yours has 2-3 +12v rails its no better then a 300W psu at best!
that HD 4890 you have requires this:
    18A idle power draw = 216W
    28A under load = 336W
that is very power hungery at idle probaly neer the max your psu can put out on a +12v rail!
