RAM upgrade from 1gig to 2gig for 1.83 Mac Mini Core 2 duo

I have the new 1.83 gig mac mini and attempting to upgrade ram. Once opened, the ram slots are not easily available, unlike the older versions where you just snap it when the cover is removed. Is there any video instructions out there? The one I found on some threads is for the older versions. Thanks

it is fairly simple once you have the case open there is 4 screws take them out to remove the cd drive and it flips up and back then u will see the ram.
two things to remeber the fan cable in the front (Small black looks like a jumper with wires) make sure to put that back on.
and
i disconnected the wifi antenna on accident had to open the case back up and snap it back on the airport card.
I have two intel minis and picked up a 2x2 gig set and put one in each computer 2.5gb in both now. both done in less then an hr

  • Upgrading from 10 year old G4-400 to Mac Mini - what old files work?

Even tho' my old G4 (OS 10.3.9) still works, I'm upgrading to a Mac Mini (MB464LL/A) (2 GHz, 2 GB, 320 GB) with Leopard (Snow Leopard included, not installed). Since the eBay listing didn't mention including iLife or iWorks, will I be able to read my old Appleworks 6 documents? I assume that I'll have to get a Photoshop upgrade to see my old docs from Version 8.
Any other apps needed? Any assistance will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

You can still use Appleworks. I have a brand new mac mini with Snow Leopard and use Appleworks every day. Still runs perfectly fine. Rosetta I believe is the software Apple includes to run older programs like Appleworks. You could probably run all your old programs.
Photoshop? You'd be better off getting at least a upgrade to the first version that ran on Intel macs. CS3. Or of course, CS5. Other programs vary. I use Office Mac 2004 every day...no upgrade needed. I use CS4, haven't gotten CS5 yet. Runs fine.
With Leopard, you'll be fine for most things. The best way to find out for sure though, is to just install things and give it a go. Some will be fine, some will run slowly, or not install. Give us a list of all your programs other than Appleworks and Photoshop, and someone can chime in with their experience.
iWorks will open Appleworks. I tried it a few times.
Can you do 4 gigs of ram in the 2ghz model? Don't recall. Might be nice to throw 4 in there. Not necessary though.

I don't listen to downloaded MP3 very often. I tend to use only a couple of the EAX modes, Rock, Dance, and Heavy Metal the most. I also watch DVDs on my system from time to time, but just on a 2 channel system. I've got a 00watt receiver connected to my computer which powers my NHT .5 bookshelf speakers (nice).
Would the upgrade to the new X-FI Music be worth it's

Thought XtremeMusic is yet much better card vs Audigy 2, but with that cost, I would rather get one of these

    E-MU 0404 (~99$)
    ESI Juli@(~30$)

    or
    cards w/ EAX :
    M-Audio Revolution 5. (~75$) or 7. (~00$)
Audiotrak Prodigy LT (~80$) (or wait for Prodigy XT which is coming out ~3/06)

  • Upgrade from tiger to leopard on a power mac G?

can i upgrade from tiger to leopard on a power mac G5?

Yes, however, read about the pitfalls below.
Mac OS X 10.5 was release October 26, 2007.  Its 10.5.8 update is the newest operating system available for PowerPC Macs that meet its requirements.  It is available occasionally by calling Apple online store's phone number, even though the website does not show it.  Many want to upgrade to Leopard because of i-Devices (iPhone, iPad, iPod) bought saying iTunes 10 or later is recommended.  To check if that really is required, look at the i-Device requirements section of this tip
If your Mac is Intel, and running 10.4.11 or earlier, and meets the hardware requirements of 10.6, a less expensive upgrade solution is to upgrade to 10.6 directly.  No need to upgrade to 10.5 unless your software won't run in 10.6.
Software listed for Intel Mac and PowerPC Macs can run on 10.5 for the platform indicated in the link. For Leopard you need
867 Mhz on a single processor or faster (1 Ghz and higher are faster).
256 MB of RAM (preferably 512MB of more based on arbitrary experience).
9 GB of hard disk space (arbitrary experience adds another 15%) free.
Macs newer than August 28, 2009 can't run Leopard, and require a minimum of Snow Leopard.
Dual booting Mac OS 9 and Mac OS X 10.5, check this tip:https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-1757
Classic is not compatible with 10.5.  10.4.11 on a PowerPC Mac or earlier is needed for Classic.
Mac OS X 10.5 is the earliest version of Mac OS X that will run iTunes 10.  This is necessary for numerous i-Devices (iPad, iPhone, and iPods).  To find out which require it, see this article
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ITunes_version_history
Should you require only iTunes 9, and are running a minimum of 10.4, backup your data at least twice, check in Apple menu -> About This Mac if you have a G3, G4, G5 (which is PowerPC), or Intel Core (which is Intel) make sure you are running 10.4.11 PowerPC or 10.4.11 Intel (depending on the aforementioned processors), and download iTunes 9.2.1.  The only reason you should upgrade to 10.5 is if some other software is required.
Boot Camp is only available on Intel Macs with 10.5 and higher.
Time Machine backup software first appeared in 10.5
You have several options of installation which are explained here: https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-2209
All of which I recommend you backup your data at least twice before upgrading, and have sufficient disk space to install, and all your third party applications and drivers are known to be Leopard compatible, and after backing up your data you dismount and disconnect all but Apple keyboard and mouse and if there is an external display, that too. And just before you install repair permissions.
If any of the above terms confuse you, ask on the Discussions board what they mean, and one of the people who knows will gladly assist you.
You must use the installer disc that looks like *, and does not say Upgrade, Dropin, or OEM, if you choose to upgrade to Leopard.

Ed61 I would recommend reviewing the installation log files for the update to determine the cause of the failure.  You can find details on how to locate and interpret your installation log files at Troubleshoot install issues with log files | CC - http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-cloud/kb/troubleshoot-install-logs-cc.html.  You are welcome to post any specific errors you discover to this discussion.

  • Will a FCP 3.0.4 upgrade from FCP 1 load onto a new Mac Pro

Will a FCP 3.0.4 upgrade from FCP 1 load onto a new Mac Pro. I have tried loading in onto a mac book with no luck. I think its because my original FCP 1 loades using OS9 and because the new Mac Pro does not have an old operating system on it I cant load my original FCP.

You should upgrade to FCP 5.1 or 6 as Jerry says.
However, if you are desperate you could try this :-
Install just your FCP 3 upgrade and also put in your FCP 1 serial number when asked.
Whenever you try to open FCP you will probably get an error message. Click the "esc" key and FCP should open.

Biggest problem is getting the retail Leopard disc. You may be able to get one from Apple Phone Sales still, but expect to pay $100 - $130.

  • Annoying Sound (Fan???) From Mac Mini Core Duo

    Hello all.
I have an Apple Mac Mini Core Duo which was upgraded by Apple (custom order) to 1 GB RAM, everything else is default.
The fan noise is annoying from this computer, and it annoys me because it is advertised as a "silent" computer. It isn't a wind tunnel like my old Powermac G4, more like an electric whining sound. And it is constant (not revving up and down like I have read elsewhere). When I first opened it from the box about a week ago, it was fine, but then the noise started after a day or two. It got so bad last night that I reset the SMC firmware, which helped a bit, but not a lot.
I have the latest firmware installed, the latest SMC firmware installed, and I have run both Apple Diagnostics and Techtool deluxe and everything is being reported as fine. Furthermore, I have installed Coreduotemp, and the temperature is hovering around 46 degrees C, occasionally going up to 50, but nothing to worry about. One thing that does seem funny, is that it always seems to be running at 1.67 GHz, but I've heard that it is supposed to rev itself down to 1 GHz when not in heavy use (and it says Mini: 1 GHz right in coreduotemp). I checked my Mom's iMac Core Duo (20") and it does the same thing, and hers makes absolutely no noise whatsoever, so I doubt that is the problem.
The sound probably wouldn't annoy me, but I find myself monitoring it because I'm scared I have a defective unit (I've still got 1000+ days of coverage), so I'm diverting a lot of my attention to the noise. IF this is normal, I'll probably just forget about it, so is this normal?
PS. I'm a smoker, but I always leave my window and door open for ventilation, so it is not a smoke filled room, it just has some smoke in it. I have used other computers in the same condition though (and my Mom is a heavier smoker around her iMac), and they haven't exhibited these symptoms, so again, I doubt this is the problem.
Post if you need more info.
Second PS. It is not incredibly loud, in that the electric hum from my florescent lights DOES drown it out.

Yes, it definately was, however, not right away I don't believe. I did Software Update almost immediately after hooking up my Mini, and the SMC update comes automatically through Software Update (and I ran the firmware updater after Software Update installed it). So I know it started after I updated the SMC firmware, I just don't know if it was immediately after.
Is there anyway to downgrade the SMC firmware to check, or should I just put up with the noise?
EDIT: And the noise definately started BEFORE I upgraded the Firmware (not SMC) on the Mini, because I tried upgrading the firmware to see if it would fix the issue.

Had the same problem this morning after updating to 10.8.2. Mail was finding my dot-mac account as always, but System Preferences popped up and said my iCloud password was incorrect. Did the "forgot password" reset, but still had the same problem. Then I went to icloud.com in Safari, logged in with the new password, it worked no problem. So I went back to the icloud preference pane, signed out of icloud, answered yes to all the warnings about data being deleted from my mac, blah blah blah, then re-signed in to icloud. Everything worked. I did have to set up my icloud account in Mail again, which now lists the account mailbox as "iCloud", and not "mac.com" as it did before. But so far, everything is working (fingers crossed.)

  • How do I move all files from an old PPC to a new Mac Mini?

How do I move all files from an old PPC to a new Mac Mini?

The new mini has a Firewire 800 port. Likely the PPC version only has Firewire 400.  The OP will need a converter cable which is why I was asking first about what hardware is available and how much is being copied.
Probably go with using the external hard drive if you decide all you want are data files.

  • I cannot install Lion to a backup drive for my new Mac Mini

I just bought the new Mac Mini with an i7 processor last week. I wanted to format a backup drive for it. When I tried to use the Lion Recovery partition on the new Mac Mini, I keep getting an error message that says it's incompatoble with the current model.
I also tried to use the Lion thumbdrive I purchased from Apple to see if that can be used, but it also give me the incompatible message.
Is there a special version of Lion that's only for the new Mac Mini's?
    Any help is appreciated!

Mac mini (Mid 2011), MacBook Air (Mid 2011): Use Lion Recovery instead of OS X Lion USB Thumb Drive
    Last Modified: September 01, 2011
    Article: HT4905
    Summary
Learn about using Lion Recovery or the built-in OS X Lion recovery partition rather than OS X Lion USB Thumb Drive with computers released after OS X Lion.
    Products Affected
MacBook Air (13-inch, Mid 2011), MacBook Air (11-inch, Mid 2011), MacBook Air (Mid 2011), Mac mini (Mid 2011)
Use Lion Recovery to restore Mac computers released after OS X Lion. If you attempt to use the OS X Lion USB Thumb Drive, a message will appear stating that you cannot install this version of OS X on your computer. This is correct behavior to make sure you install only the correct and most up-to-date version of Mac OS X on your computer.
Note: You can also use the Lion Recovery Disk Assistant on your Mac to create a bootable image to make sure you recover the correct version of OS X Lion. To use the Lion Recovery Disk Assistant, you need to have your own USB drive.
    Additional Information
If you have a network connection, you should receive the appropriate version of Mac OS X when using the built-in Recovery HD partition on Macs running Lion.

  • DVD Display Quality for Mac Mini Core Duo

I'm moving from PC to Mac, starting with a Mac Mini Core Duo as a media server.
The spec looks great, but I'm concerned that the CNet review says that on their test machine:
the DVD- and video-output quality was marred by false contouring (banded or splotchy colors), moiré patterns (line distortion), and jagged diagonals
I can't find any mention of this problem in this forum, so perhaps CNet had an early version, or a manufacturing defect, or was poorly configured.
To put my mind at rest, can anybody confirm that the DVD player works fine for them on this system? And if so what exact configuation they have?
Mac Mini Core Duo Mac OS X (10.4.6)
PC (Toshiba Tecra)   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

Yes, large display - I'm outputting to a Panasonic
AE900 projector and putting up a 90 inches diagonal
    picture.
nice setup.. OSX with Front Row is a good platform for HTPC. Unfortunately the picture quality is not as good as what you can obtain with PC's. but it is still plenty good. Then again, if you will watch DVD's only, I would recommend getting an upconverting DVD player (Oppo is a good brand for 200 bucks aprox). Again, check out the avsforums, you'll find plenty of useful info and very helpful people.
    Gmas.

It sounds unlikely of course. But from your question it's hard to tell what might have filled your HDD. Are you constantly on file sharing or has filled the drive with movies?
Best way to tell is to start checking what folders occupy space. "Get Info" for the HDD and its subfolders is a way to start checking where the data in question resides.
And as BGreg say, call Apple support is also a good way to begin with.
