Ram upgrade only works in one slot at a time

Hey, has anybody experienced this same issue? I have a mid 2009 Macbook Pro 13" and I was trying to upgrade from the factory 2 Gbs of RAM to 8 Gbs. I have 2X4 Gbs of memory and it turns out that only one 4 Gbs stick works at a time. The laptop boots up fine with only one 4 Gig stick inserted, and it doesn't matter whether the second slot is empty or has one of the old 1 Gig sticks inserted, nor does it matter which slot has the 4 Gig stick, but when I have both 4 Gig sticks installed it won't boot up. It just stays on the grey screen after the startup sound. I've tried resetting the SCM and the PRAM with no effect. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

I don't actually know the brand, I got the RAM off of ebay and it's not labeled. The parts and serial numbers for both sticks are all 0's so perhaps the RAM is a knockoff of some kind.
But, both sticks work, in either of the two slots, as long as only 1 stick at a time (of the 4 Gb) is installed. This leads me to think it has something to do with coordinating both sticks at once? It works fine whether the second slot has a 1 Gb stick in it or if it's empty.
And with both factory sticks everything works fine. It's only with both 4 Gb sticks that there's a problem.

You need to give more info..
Firstly only works for what.. networking.. backup.. wireless. You need more nouns.. more adjectives... describe what you want and what fails.. then we can figure out why.
Most likely you have bridged it when it should be in router mode..
Most likely you are using Lion or ML which has the airport utility bridge the TC by default.
Change it to working as a router. That might help.
If you press reset button it will default back to router btw.

My time capsule will only work with one device at a time

I just purchased the Airport time capsule. I have it set up with my imac, but I also run a macbook air, older macbook, PC laptop, PC desktop, wii, xbox, and 3 iphones off of this device. My issue is that my ISP does not serve more than 1 IP address and with previous routers, the IP address they recognized was only on my router. Now, each time a new device tries to use the internet, my ISP is bypassing time capsule and recognizing the device IP address. It's very frustratitng! How do I set up my Time Capsule so that it's IP address is the only one my ISP recognizes, but all my devices are able to run off of the Time Capsule as the router. (obviously I am not over educated in this area so solutions in simple language are greatly appreciated!) Thanks!

I read the same solution somewhere else in the forum but it does not solve my problem. When I set up the Airport, it sets up in bridge mode by default. When I contacted my ISP they said it needed to be in bridge mode (their rationale is that they only allow 1 IP address). I just switched it to DHCP and NAT and this is what the default settings go to:

My internet "Digis". www.digis.net. They are a smaller company and put a dish on my roof. The modem is very small, does not have a router.

Graphite only works with one laptop at a time

I'm looking for some help for my daughter who is out of town doing an internship, so I'm trying to troubleshoot long distance. She has our old graphite airport base station. It worked fine here last time it was used. She has comcast cable internet in her apartment in Denver. She owns a G4 iBook & her roommate has a MacBook. The cable modem is plugged into the graphite base station and my daughter can access the internet wirelessly, but her roommate cannot. If my daughter's computer is off, then the roommate can access the internet wirelessly. I can't figure out why the Airport is only allowing one computer at a time to connect to the internet. Any ideas or suggestions?

The option is usually called "Share single IP address" but it may be worded differently on the graphite.

Reconnectin Media only works for one file at a time...

Hi,
After having many times relinked hundreds of off-line media files in one go, FCP now doesn't want to reconnect more than one file at a time. Although all other files are in the relative path, it seems as if I have to relink 1200 files one by one...
I've found another thread in here, unfortunately closed, but wonder if that bug hasn't been fixed yet. Does anybody know a solution for this?

AND... don't forget that "relative path ALSO refers to the perhaps many bins you have inside FCP. So it's possible to connect everything in a particular bin, as long as all those files are in the same folder on your drives, whether it be capture scratch, or another folder of imported material. some people I know like to put EVERYTHING in the capture scratch folder for that reason. I personally don't, but I've got a system that works for me.
EDIT: I had a mentor once, many years ago, who suggested strongly that you ought to leave the cutting room every day set in such a way as ANYONE could walk in the next day and pick up right where you left off, just in case you got run over by a car. And dang it, that's just what happened to me. Ralph, you doomed me!
Now, while he was talking film, the same rules apply. Best not to have files floating all over the place, where you've got to go searching for them.
Whether there is a bug with a specific version, I have no idea.

Internet only works on one machine at a time

I have three linux machines on my local network - my server running mandrake,one running gentoo and the other running a new install of Arch
Trouble is, that whenever the arch box acceses the internet, the gentoo box has real trouble with doing so - all the name lookups fail...
As soon as I stop network activity on the arch box - the gentoo box is fine again
I realise this could be an issue with my ISP - but it does seem odd that the network is only struggling when more than one machine is trying to get online...
My server is the only box with direct access to the net
Any ideas what could be wrong here?
Edit: another reason to suspect it's a linux thing is that the windows laptop also on the same network has none of the same problems...

I would suspect wrong network configuration (ip conflict? nat?) But without any details it's almost impossible to help you.
First of all you have to tell us if you connect your gentoo and arch boxes through your mandrake server with nat or maybe all 3 boxes are connected to some external router/switch/whatever? Please post your net configs (at least from rc.conf). If all 3 boxes are connected directly to your provider this may also mean that there are some limits - in this case I would suggest connecting desktop machines through your server with nat or buying some small hardware router. That's as much as I can tell for now until you provide some configs.
EDIT: one more thing: if you say that your win notebook works just try to copy it's config options to arch - it should be easy. Check ip, dns servers, if it uses dhcp - basic things form network connection properties - tcpip protocol.

Audio only working for one user at a time - flash is the cause

If one user is listening to something via some kind of web (flash) media player, and the other user logs on, then this 'new' user is unable to listen to anything at all - all audio is blocked - not just web stuff
I know flash is the cause as I can go to task manager and kill the other person's flash plug in and the sound comes on instantly

Everytime I want to use skype or itunes or iplayer, I have to log in as the other user, close down all their web browsers, then go back to my account to get it to work, much to the annoyance of the other user.

Mouse only working in one USB slot

This is more of an anoyance than a problem. I've recently purchaced a Logitech wireless mouse. It has one of those dongle things that you plug into the USB port. The only problem is, that it only works in the one port (one closest to the power). This happens in OS X and in Windows XP. I've tried it on an indentical machine and it works in both. Does anyone have any suggestions.
Oh, memory sticks / usb hdds etc work in both slots fine...

Ok, after reading a few other posts on here I did the SMC reset thing (take out battery and hold power button down). When I booted up the mouse worked in both slots. After a re-start it's back to the same place again, only working in one slot. Any advice on what I should do next?

My first generation ipod touch only works in one headphone. I've tried 10 different pairs of headphones but with all of them the sound only plays in the left ear. It works in both speakers when i plug it into the speaker that connects to its wider slot (the opening on the ipod next to where the headphones are plugged in) but when i use a cord that connects to the headphone slot that lets me play my ipod on my cars speakers it only works on the left side speaker.

This exact thing happened to my first gen touch. Sadly, I don't have good news for you. First side of the earphone jack stopped working. A few weeks later the headphone jack wouldn't work at all. (Using the docking slot along the bottom still worked fine the whole time, just as you said.) Unfortunately it's not possible to replace the headphone jack without replacing other major components inside the touch so it's very expensive to repair. I could not fix the problem and had to buy a new touch.

Flash only works for one user

Using IE7. I have three users on my computer. All
have Administrator level access. Flash only works for one of them.
When attempting to play a video on YouTube for example it says "You
either have JavaScrip turned off or an old version of Adobe Flash
Player."
JS is turned on and the current version of Flash Player is
installed.

I was able to fix my problem of Flash only working on user
account. I did the following two steps to correct the problem:
1. First uninstall the Adobe Flash Player plug-in and ActiveX
control by following the instructions stated in
tn_14157.
2. Second Download SubInACL from Microsoft to fix permission
issues that prevent the Flash Player installation by following the
instructions stated in
fb1634cb.
Following the above two steps, fixed my problem of only
having Flash run on only one user account. Now it runs on all four
user accounts.
As a side note: The Flash Player plug-in and ActiveX control
would not run in user accounts with Limited access. But when I set
the permission of the user account to administrative, then Flash
would work.

Mouse Track Ball only working in one direction

Hello,
My Mighty Mouse is 3 months old and now the track ball is only working in one dircetion.
When I move the ball forward I hear the distinct sound and the scroll bar on e.g. Safari moves, but when I reverse there is no movement on the screen.
I don't hear the same sound as when I move the track ball forward.
I have tried to reboot but no improvement.
Have someone seen teh same issue? Is the solution to simply replace the mouse?

Nokia 6600 only works from one cell tower

I have this weird problem with my phone where it will only work off one cell tower. Once I leave the coverage of that cell tower it will not work anywhere else.
It started a few months ago and i'm not to sure why?
The funny thing is it's the cell tower on top of my building at work, so when i'm at work it will work (calls/txt/etc) but as soon as I go home or even go to another city it will not.
Any ideas?

The first thing I'd recommend you do is to reset your phone, but I can't tell from the 6600's webpage what OS you're running so I can't give you instructions on how to do this.
Have a look through your menus to see if you can find an option to reset to factory defaults, but please remember that doing so will wipe ALL data from your phone.
If you wish to backup your data you can do so using the PC Suite application which you can find here :

Google iPad Sync Microsoft Exchange - Sync only works in One Direction

I have setup my iPad to sync with Google calendar using Microsoft Exchange, which supposes to work bidirectionally.
I found that it only works in one direction such that anything in my Google calendar (includes all the subscribed calendars in Google) got sync to my iPad. After I add a new event in my Google calendar, it is pushed to my iPad.
On the other hand, any new event I add to my iPad calendar is not updated and shown in my Google calendar. This means the sync works only in one direction:
Google Calendar Event --- sync ---> iPad (works perfectly and the event is pushed almost pushed instantly)
iPad Calendar Event. --- sync ---> Google Calendar << FAILED >> (Event entered to my iPad never shows in the Google Calendar)
Sync works unidirectionally but not bidirectionally
Anyone has encounter this problem and is there any solution?
