Random Alerts

Hi there,
I love the 8800. Great phone. Yes, the battery life is the only negative about this phone.
However i have another issue. This random alert comes up and says "Check info service!". I have gone to too many O2 shops and a nokia shop and everyone is clueless.
Can anyone help me? This alert is **bleep** annoying.
HEEEEELLLLPPP!!!!

Go into the messages menu, scroll down to info messages, select and turn them off!

  • Random alerts in iCal

    Hi,
At my work we have an iCloud account set up where we all share the company calendar. The calendar is created and managed through iCloud. A few months ago we started to get a lot of unwanted/random alerts. The are always set for 0 minutes before the event, but I personally seen them pop up after the event as well. A majority of the alerts happen with repeating events. I've tried to manually set them back to none but the alerts come back. I've checked the companies computers and no one has Add Default Alerts set in there preferences. I've even seen alerts get set for events that I personally created and know for a fact weren't set. I know you can just turn off alerts on the iMac, but people that have the cal on their phone still receive that alerts.
So, how can I prevent the alerts from being created, and second is there a way to turn off iCal alerts within the iPhone? Thanks

I just discovered that when I view the events on www.icloud.com the ones that are improperly alerting for me show up there with the alert option turned on, even though they don't show as alerting on the macs or ios devices. So far, it seems that turning off the alert on www.icloud.com fixes the event on the icloud server (so it won't get sent to all the devices).  It doesn't fix the cause. That's something Apple has to figure out.
But I think it's related somehow to the mac Calendar Preferences Alerts options. In the latest Lion, either someone has Events>At Time Of Event as their preference, or the default of None is not working. On each mac, try toggling that preference to some value you don't want, like 5 minutes before, then close and reopen preference and turn it back to None.

  • Calendar creating random alerts for events

The last couple of weeks, iCloud Calendar and the Mac Calendar having been doing something very odd.  I have my college courses laid out in my Calendar and syncing between my iPhone, Mac, and iPad.  My default setting for this college calendar (and across my devices) was to alert me 15 minutes before each class started.
The last couple of weeks, however, the Calendar would alert me at my default time, but then it would alert me at the time the class was scheduled to start, and then at two random times after the class already started.  The other two created alerts usually happened around 5-15 minutes after the event already started.  After the second later time, the alerts would stop being created and stop appearing in my notifications.  I was even able to watch these alerts being created, and if I deleted the new alert, I would have to delete it a second time before it actually disappeared.  And this reminder went out across my 3 devices.
    Here's what I have tried.
Changed my password on iCloud/Apple ID
I have removed the PList from Calendar app on my Mac, which changed nothing.
Repaired Permissions with Disk Utility and Onyx, also did nothing (though Disk Utility at one point did detect an error in Calendar which it said it fixed).
I went to iCloud.com and deleted the entire College calendar from the Calendar app and then manually re-added my classes.  I noticed that on some the classes, it tried to create the random alerts immediately, but since I deleted those classes again and readded them and they stopped.  This temporarily worked.
This last stepped worked for about a week before my college classes started doing this again.  Since I applied the iCloud "fix", only some of my college classes have begun creating random alerts again, but only on my Mac and not on my iOS devices.  Also, my birthdays imported from Facebook are now exhibiting this trait.  No other calendars, such as my work or appointment calendars, are doing this though, and I have tested them by creating new events in said calendars. I don't want to stop using Calendar for something like this.  Does anyone have any ideas?

Update:  Now some of my other calendars are doing this too, like my work calendar, up to almost an hour after the actual event.  I have no idea what's going on.

  • Time Machine random alert

I'm using Time Machine to backup my MacBook. As I use an external drive (which isn't always connected) for the backups I've turned off Time Machine, and I perform the backups manually, usually once a day.
Ever since upgrading to Snow Leopard (from Leopard), I've been getting system alerts saying:
"Time Machine could not complete the backup.
The backup disk is not available."
These messages appear quite randomly, 2-3 times a day.
I've tried setting Time Machine on in the preferences, then setting it back off.
    I ran permissions repair.
    Nothing changed.
any ideas on what causes this alert and how to make it stop appearing?
    Thanks,
    Omer.

  • Calendar adding random alerts to events

An issue that has been driving me pretty bonkers is that, for some reason, the OS X Calendar app seems to randomly add alerts to events.  I had an even in which I had alerts for 1 hour, 3 hours, and 1 day before the event.  When the reminder for 1 day before popped up, I swiped it away, and then a little while later, another notification alert popped up, then another a few minutes later.  So I went into the event details to find my original alerts still there, but also "23 hours, 30 minutes before" and then "22 hours, 45 minutes before"—alerts I never added.  If I try to delete them, they just come right back after I hit "apply."
This is a Google calendar.  This doesn't seem to happen on the iPad or iPhone, though I don't really use the stock calendar app much.  Has anyone else run into this bizarre behavior?
It wouldn't let me insert an image in the post, but here is a screen cap of the event in Calendar: http://cl.ly/XnGg

Update:  Now some of my other calendars are doing this too, like my work calendar, up to almost an hour after the actual event.  I have no idea what's going on.

  • Random Alert Sound on 2012 iMac OSX 10.8.5?

Hi, I recently erased and restored my iMac (late 2012, 27") and am currently running OSX 10.8.5.   At incredibly random times (every few minutes), my iMac will make an alert sound that is sort of like a "ker-plunk" noise.  It is somewhat similar to the skype message notification sound, but it's definitely not from skype, and it's not exactly that same sound.
I can't figure out where it's coming from, as I'm not alerted anywhere else on the Mac.   I don't have mail set up on the mac so it's not an alert from that.
I'm at a loss, and this is super annoying.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    Hi,
The System Preferences > Sound > Sound Effects tab  can list all the System Sounds and any sounds you have in your User's Sound Folder.
As you can see those in your Users Folder (~/Library/Sounds) are listed as Custom where as the System Sounds are listed and Built-in.
I have a door opening and a door closing sound that I think came from the AIM for Mac  applications that sound a bit ker-plunky. (listed as Buddy On and Buddy Off).
If the Sound is not from these sources then I will describe and example method that you can apply to other apps (most likely the ones that are open)
Go to the Applications folder in the Finder.
    Highlight Messages.
Right Click and select "Show Package Contents"
Open the Contents folder that then appears in the window.
    Open the Resources Folder.
At this point I have the Finder's View Menu > Show View Options showing the Kind column
I click the Kind header and the .aiff files that the app uses are moved to the top of the list.
I have also used the Finder's View Menu to Customise the Toolbar and have the Quick Look button showing
Highlight a sound and use the Quick Look button.
It opens a Slide but also plays the sound without adding and using iTunes to play them
(Alternatively you can right click and Open With and use Quicktime).

  • MacBook Pro Random Alert Pluck Sound

Was researching as I kept hearing what sounded like a guitar pluck sound randomly with my new MacBook Pro. I found a post on the support forums with the same questions but couldn't answer there so I'm posting a new message to inform those that are being driven crazy by this sound.
Microsoft Entourage appears to play this sound when it checks mail and there is "No New Mail" which means you might hear it every 5 minutes or every hour depending on your settings and how many accounts it checks.
You can go into the Preferences>>General Preferences>>Notifications to turn off the alert sounds. Not sure why anybody needs an alert that they have no mail except to drive them absolutely crazy.
Hope this helps somebody. I can now work in peace.

  • Random alert sound

    Hi there,
I have had a macbook since last June and I recently (about a month ago) started to get this weird alert sound that pops up every now and then, without being related to anything apparent because sometimes I am not using the computer and it starts anyway. I tried shutting down the alerts in the system preferences but it doesn't work. I also shut down all the sound from all the application that I use (ICal, Messenger, Skype, etc.) but it still pops. Sometimes it can do it 3-4 times in a 2-minute frame and other times I can go a few hours without hearing it.
I should add that it is really an alert sound because I tried changing the sound in the preferences for another one and it's the new one that pops out now...
I would greatly appreciate if someone could give me a heads up as of what is going on and, hopefully a fix, because it's driving me crazy.
    Thank you!

If it only occurs very occasionally, I really wouldn't worry about it. Perhaps you can take a look at Console and see if there's anything in the system log at the time it happens. As far as I know, it's not a known problem.

  • How do I stop Calendar from creating its own alerts?

This is weird.  I Am not using Icloud, nor synching with any other calendar (as far as I know). But I create an event, put in one alert, and a few days later, it has three or more random alerts (even some well after the event). AND it will email me more alerts that it doesn't even show!  For example; A calendar event entered last week of a visit today, set to remind me by email at 9:00 AM this morning, has now emailed me 5 times, both before and after the stated one.  And the even itself now shows two reminders.  What is going on?  Thanks!
Macbook Pro, OS Mountain Lion 10.8.2, Calendar 6.0

I don't have a hotmail calendar, but iPhone says it is. It looks like the calendar in the manual & no settings available. Can I make it not a hotmail calendar?

  • Alert problem after iOS 7

After upgrading to iOS 7 I have been having random alert sounds on my phone.  When I check my phone after the alert I have nothing new.  Also the sound that I here is not one that I have picked for alerts, email or text.  I can't understand where this sound is coming from.
    Any ideals?

I have the exact same problem. Since the upgrade around the same time each day an alert would go off that I'm not familiar with and nothing shown on screen. It sounds like a crackle and vibrates at the same time. Anyway I changed my phone a few days ago as I damaged the screen and this new phone is doing the same thing and I can't figure out what it could be

  • Alerts for Apps

How do I stop receiving loud random alerts for games that I have downloaded??
    Thanks

Settings>Notifications. Turn off the sound alerts for whatever games are annoying you.
    Best of luck.

  • ICal adding alert for 35791394 minutes after events

Since I've upgraded to Mountain Lion, I'm now getting random Alerts set for 35791394 minutes after the event (between one to three alerts with the same number of minutes for each event). I'm syncing with iCloud to an iPhone 4S and iPad (3), both with most recent iOS. All calendars are set to default with None for Alerts (on all devices).

I've been following this - and have just been holding off contacting Apple, since it seems there's no fix yet from what some of you have gone through - But I've done a few tests tonight and can replicate the alert - here's what I found - maybe this can shed some light on the bug for some Apple tech:
Make event in Calendar - no alert
Open it on iPhone - shows alert at time of event
Edit it on iPhone - now in Calendar it shows Alert - Message 35791394 minutes after.
Edit on Calendar to set Alert to NONE,
iPhone still shows Alert at Time of Event
Edit iPhone to remove Alert to NONE
Calendar still shows NONE (as before)
Edit iPhone timing of event, still alert None
    Calendar still shows NONE
    ---------NEXT-------
Make event in Calendar - no alert
iPhone shows Alert at Time of Event
Remove alert, set to None AND edit time of event on iPhone
    Calendar still shows no alert.
-----So it seems to me that an event created first on Calendar with no alert - shows up on iPhone with Alert at Time of Event - then if you edit it on iPhone - it goes back to Calendar with the Alert -Message 35791394 minutes after.
But... if you FIRST remove the Alert on the iPhone before editing the time of event - it doesn't create an alert back in Calendar.

  • Calendar entries on Curve 8900 get random reminder times after moving in ical

I just upgraded to a Curve 8900 from a Curve 8310 and using the new Desktop Manager for Mac to sync. I'm having 2 issues.
    1) After syncing with ical, the entries on my Curve 8900 do not alert (vibrate or give off tone) when the ical alarm is set to "message with sound", however it does seems to work when you only select "message" from the alarm setting.
    2) When dragging an event on ical from one date to another (or changing the date using the edit event command or get info command), during the sync it assigns a random reminder time only on my Curve, but not in ical. So I'm getting random alerts on my Curve for events in the future, and random times of 12 hours, 24 hours, 1215 minutes, etc.
My default entry on both my Curve and ical has the alarm reminder set to "0" min, so that I am alerted on the time I have assigned to the event.
It's so frustrating as both pocketmac and missing sync were erasing contacts. I was hoping the new Desktop Manager would have solved any sync problems.

  • Random audio sounds

I just got my notebook 4 days ago. The first 2 days were fine, but the last 2 days I've been getting seemingly random "funk" sound alerts. Sometimes I'm typing, other times I'm not even touching the computer when these sounds occur. No info box comes up to explain an error message or anything.
Also, today I navigated to my mail.com email account & I kept hearing a recorded voice say "heeelllooo" while I was on that website, and also occasional noises that sounded like a camera shutter.
I've contacted Apple about the first problem, but they had no answers for me.
Does anyone have any insight into these strange & random alerts??? This is my first Mac, so I'm not terribly familiar with the system & I REALLY don't want to go back to PC.
Any help or suggestions will be greatly appreciated!!

I have noticed on many occasions that certain websites are able to somehow perform funny noises and alerts when you mouse over a button in your web browser. This happens occasionally to me but I am pretty sure it has something to do with the website that you are at. I have noticed that same thing happening (occasionally) when I visit www.wunderground.com. Since it only happens occasionally, it may in fact be coming from one of the banner ads instead of the main website itself. I would experiment and see if it happens when your browser is not at mail.com.

  • Random noise at 2:30 am??

Hi! I just got my first blackberry a few days ago (the Curve 8520). I'm liking it so far, except that I keep having this random alert go off at about 2:30 am. I know it's not an alarm, because my alarm was already set and BB doesn't do multiple alarms. I'm pretty sure it wasn't some event alert, because I've scrolled through the calendar and can't find it. It's happened both nights that I've had the phone--and I don't like waking up at 2:30 am!!!
Any idea as to what this could be and how to fix it? I really don't think I set anything like that, so it must have come this way from the store? I'm desperately trying to fix this before tonight!
Thanks in advance for any help!
