Random Questions not selecting Pool

Intermittently, a pool question is bypassed in Cap6.
I have 3 random questions slides, each linked to one of three pools.  I named each question Q1P1, Q2P1, etc. for tracking purposes.  Not all pools are having questions used.
Has anyone else been able to ensure that each pool has a question used (which is what the random question slide linked to a pool did)?
Thanks in advance for any help you can give on this issue.
Lew.

Thanks Rod. I tried both of your recommendations, and it seemed to work on my system. But, on another system, it was specifically NOT random for the pools.  It seemed to randomize the questions, just not the pools.
Here are the test results from the other system:
Try 1
Q1 Pool 1
Q2 Pool 2
Q3 Pool 1
Try 2
Q1 Pool 2
Q2 Pool 1
Q3 Pool 1
Try 3
Q1 Pool 3
Q2 Pool 3
Q3 Pool 2
Try 4
Q1 Pool 1
Q2 Pool 2
Q3 Pool 2
Any ideas?

  • The answers questions not selectable in quiz slide for some users

We have a SCORM Captivate training content published on our LMS (SAP Learning Solutions). Some users can't respond to any questions in the content. For these users, the answers are locked and are not selectable. Also, the Validate and Erase buttons didn't appear.
The problem concerns about 10% of our users.
This training contains both content slides and quiz slides.
The content is published in SCORM 1.2 (SWF + HTML) with Adobe Captivate 5.5. We had the same problem for some users with the previous version of this training content published with Captivate 4.
All users have the same settings:
    Flash Player 10.3.183.11
    Internet Explorer 6
    Microsoft Windows XP

The most likely reason for this behaviour is that your 10% of users have entered the quiz and then thought they might jump back to the information slides to check the answer.  On doing so they have exited the quiz scope which immediately locks the quiz.
Have you actually watched these problem users complete the quiz?  If you are able to do so, make sure that once they start the first question, they answer all quiz questions in turn without jumping to any other slides or leaving the quiz.  If my hunch is right, the person will be able to successfully complete the quiz.
If the desire is to allow users to jump back to the content section to check information, place a scored button on the first or second slide of your project.  This extends the quiz scope and will mean that the user is still within the "quiz" no matter what slide they want to look at.

  • Flash Security Settings and Random Questions not Displaying

    Hey folks,
I created a Captivate 4 project with 3 slides and a question pool of about 70 questions in which I am randomly pulling in. I am using IE7 and Flash 10. Publishing in Flash 10. If I publish or view in Preview in a web browser the project launches, plays the first 3 slides, and then goes blank when the first question should appear. Note: previewing the project AND publishing the project as an .exe does launch and display all the questions correctly. It ends up being a flash security issue. I went to the adobe site and via the Adobe Flash Player Security Manager" I entered in the main .SWF captivate-generated file as a trusted file and then re-ran the published captivate project and it ran correctly. Question is ... what do I need to do to set up flash or my project so I don't have to do this for every new project that I deploy? I don't want to have the users have to go in and add whatever I deploy as a trusted file. It's also a little confusing as to why the first three slides played and it stopped at the questions ... seems like if it's not a trusted file, that it wouldn't run at all.
    Thanks for any help!
    Chris

    Hello again
I think I'd be investigating a temporary web server to host on until things are ready. Here's where it will help.
By providing files to the end users, if you are copying files over you end up having to explain how to save the files. You then have to walk them through setting the Flash Security so they can properly view. It all just becomes a pain in the kazoo.
If you can find some server space, you simply upload the content and provide a link for the users to view the content.
Other than that, if you are insistent that copying is the way to fly, I might suggest you establish a known location where you want everyone to copy their files. Perhaps C:\TestFolder. Then provide some instruction on how to configure the folder with the relaxed Flash Security. From there forward, anything they copy to the folder should need no security adjustment.
    Cheers... Rick

  • Scorm will not load random questions

    Good afternoon.
    Moodle 1.9
    Cp7
My SCORM will not load when I have used random questions from a pool. I published the same course with a set amount of questions and it loads perfectly.
Does anyone know of an issue with using random questions?
    Thank you in advance.

    Blackboard Learn in Compass 2G
    Cp8
Our SCORM reports when using random questions not-from-a-pool, but the report is useless. It says, for instance, that the user selected answer b for question 1, but because we randomized questions, we have no idea what answer b was for that student.
If anyone knows of a way to get the actual question into the report, please respond. Meanwhile, we're turning the randomizing off.
This seems like a pretty big hole in the data reporting architecture. I am working with my Compass administrator to see if we figure out if Captivate is reporting the data to Blackboard, or if it's the SCORM reporting implementation in Captivate that is responsible.

  • [captivate 3] random question slide doesn't work

    hello,
    I'm noob in Captivate.
I use Captivate demo (in french).
I want to make a quizz for my students.
So, I create a "question pool manager" with 1 pool project
    "reseau_locaux".
This pool project have 13 questions.
Then I click "slides" on the filmstrip, I add a "Random
question slide" and I click on the "Question pool menu" to select
    my pool project "reseau_locaux"
After generating project, I have only 1 question from my
    question pool project.
I read the help guide but it's not help me.
    It gets me crazy...
I hope you understand my english.
    thanks

    Welcome to our community, Anthony
Basically you are doing everything right. I'm a bit unclear
on what you were expecting to see. Perhaps it will help you if I
explain how the Question Pools and Random Questions work.
You define a pool of questions using the Question Pools
Manager. You advise you have done that. So far so good.
You then insert a Random Question Slide. When you insert one
of these, you point the slide at a Question Pool. You advise that
    you have done that too.
I'm guessing here that perhaps you expected that by inserting
a single Random Question Slide you would end up presenting all 13
questions from the pool. Just in random order?
If so, that's not how it was designed to work. What happens
is that a single random question from the pool is presented. If you
desire to see all 13 of your questions, but in random order, you
need to insert 13 Random Question Slides and point them at your
    Question Pool.
You may wonder at this point if you do this, will it would be
possible to see perhaps question 2 multiple times. And the answer
to that is no. Once a question has been presented, it is removed
from consideration in the pool. So after the first one is
presented, Captivate randomizes from what remains in the pool.
Hopefully that helps better explain it.
    Cheers... Rick

  • Publishing w/ Random Questions

    Hi,
I am using random questions in one of my programs and about
to send it off to the client. This client has Captivate and would
like for me to send the CP files. My question is, if I send the CP
file for the program, will the random questions in the pool go with
it? If not, how do I get them there?
    Many thanks for your help!

    Hi gbcvette
Yes, your random questions would be contained inside the .CP
    file.

  • HTML random question score incorrect.  SWF works fine

    Version 8.0.1.242
Question pool 25 questions. Random Question slides inserted. All questions set to score 1.  24 are multichoice, all standard.
    Published as HTML
Score reported is 1 out of x.
I have tested with 3, 5 and 25 random questions from the pool.  But the score is always 1 out of x
    Published as SWF
    Works correctly
I really need the HTML version.
Closed, reloaded.  Saved as - retested. Turned it off and turned it back on. Sacrificed a mouse...
    Andy

    Correct questions
....Should be same as total points scored anyway as there is 1 point for
    each question.

  • Random question slide not shown when FP 8 or FP 9 output

    Hi everyone
I've just begun to use Captivate a month ago, so it is not
that much experience I can contribute with by now.
One thing I have recognized is that I get some problems with
random questions slides made from different question pools when
using Flash Player 8 or 9 in the output otions.
When using Flash Player 7 everything works as supposed: one
random question is shown for every random question slide using one
distinct question pool for each random question slide.
When using one of the two others some of my random question
slides are not shown. There are slides that are played - meaning
that the player shows an empty slide for the time of 3 seconds -
but the content is not shown. This happens only for some of the
random question slides, and those are the same question slides each
time, I publish - but when working or dragging around with the
random question slides and publish again, the problem would come
with some other random question slides, not positioned the same
place as before, but showing the same problem in each published
    version.
As written before each question pool is only used once. The
different question slides used in the question pools are all
    duplicates, naturally with adjusted content.
Does anyone has experienced something like that before? Could
there be any other trouble with the content when using Flash Player
7 in the output options, like quiz not playing in newly updated
Flash Players ore something like that? Anything?
I appreciate your suggestions or comments! Thanks in advance
    and kind regards,
    Lars

Some more info - and a working solution...
I have worked on this topic a bit more - and found out, that
I have a problem with output option set to Flash Player 7, too.
When I delete every other navigation option than the "next
question" (what is it called in english?) button, I get this
    problem:
The quiz now "freezes" randomly, not every time, but again
and again. The quiz has both random slides from question pools and
    simple question slides.
I have found out, that putting the simple question slides
into question pools and then showing a random slide from those
    question pools fixes the problem.
Has anyone experienced problems like that? Other solutions?
    Kind regards
    Lars
Maybe someone has a similar problem.

  • Convert to Question Pool random questions?

We are updating a course we developed last year (prior to
Captivate 3). This year we want to apply Captivate 3's "Question
Pool random questions" to this course. Is there a way to create the
question pool(s) in this existing quiz, and then add last year's
questions to them without having to re-enter each question into the
    Question Pool Manager?
    Thank you for any tips!

    Hi Jan
Sure thing. Just convert the version 1 or 2 project to a
version 3 project. Then define a Question Pool. Once you have done
that, switch to Storyboard view. Select the question slides you
wish to add to the pool and right-click. You should be presented
with an option to add the selected slides to the pool.
Once you have moved the question slides to a pool, you would
then insert Random slides that point to the pool.
    Cheers... Rick

  • Random Questions are Not Random

The Question Pool has twenty-five (25) questions, and ten (10) Random Question slides in the project.  The frist time a learner takes the course the questions are randomly chosen, as they should be.  Assuming the learner fails and retakes the quiz, the learner is seeing the same set of questions; not a new 'random set.  Is there some setting that I am missing to give them a new random set of questions?  Thanks for any help!

Sorry, but that is the way random question slides are designed. The only way to have another set of random slides is to restart the module.

  • Grabbing Random Questions for the Question Pool

    Hi Everyone,
I am interested in exactly how the Random Question Pool
works. Let's say there are 50 questions in the question pool and
you want 10 questions from that question pool of 50. When you
publish I understand you will get 10 random questions from the 50
questions. Then when you run your published project are you always
going to get the same 10 questions or another 10 of the 50 pooled
questions everytime your run that same published project? Or do you
have to publish again, calling the quiz another name to get another
10 of 50 questions from the question pool? I appreciate the help on
    this.

    Hi slewis6337
It is my understanding that each time you
display the Captivate output, you see a totally random
question. So if your question pool contains 50 questions, each time
your Captivate output presents the random question and draws from
the pool, it is truly drawing a totally random question.
I do believe that Captivate does keep track of which
questions have been used in the pool. To test this, try creating a
pool containing three questions. Then create four random question
slides that point at the pool. Then try running the Captivate. You
should see that as random question number four is encountered, the
screen goes totally gray. This is happening because you have
    exhausted the question pool.
    Sincerely... Rick

  • How to make Random questions work without closing and restarting?

I have a quiz using random question slides and random pools.
The random slides display random questions when I run the CP4 file, let it close then relaunch it. I'm using an LMS.
I would like to be able to repeat the quiz again without closing and relaunching, but my method does not work.
I tried using a button (retake) on the last slide to 'jump to' slide 1 when clicked. The quiz does repeat, but show the exact same questions.
I thought there might be a variable that would reset the quiz, but could not find one.
Does anyone have method to do this?
    Thanks,
    Dave

I don't know of a way. My experience is the same as yours. The quiz questions are selected and shuffled when the lesson is launched. When 'retake' is clicked, the quiz repearts the same questions. The only way to get a new set of questions is to close and relaunch it.
I suppose there's be some function to invoke or array to manipulate via AS, but I've no idea what that may be...
So no help here, just backing what you're seeing.

  • Randomized Questions

Can you make a question randomized after it has been created as a regular question?

I'm saying that the entire purpose of question pools is to deliver randomised questions.  As long as you have more than one question in a question pool, it will ONLY ever deliver randomised questions.
So by moving questions into a pool, you are not changing the way the pool works. You are just setting up those questions to be available for selection when any randomised question slide in your project is set to pull questions from that pool.
If you have one randomised question slide in your project, set to pull a question from Pool A, it will select one of the questions in that pool to display.  If there is another randomised question slide in the same quiz set to pull from the same pool it will select a different question.  Captivate will not repeat the same question.
