Random questions on a DVD quiz?

Hi,
For one of my college projects I have to produce an interactive DVD quiz. The main issue though is, can I make a DVD quiz that will have random questions (video / screenshot) everytime?
Is this possible with DVD Studio Pro?
If so, how? Is it a simple thing, or will I need a long tutorial?
Thanks for any help guys

LOL - I did think of doing so, but saw that Drew had linked to a plethora of similar threads... some quite recent.
I am wondering how much of this needs to be your own work for assessment and how much you can just crib from others? Not that I have any particular moral standpoint, it's just I used to be a teacher!
So, to undermine the entire system, just head to that link Drew gave, scroll down and look for the one near the bottom dealing with 'non-repeat quiz'. There is a link to a download there which has all you need in it, I think. It certainly has the basic scripting and structures you'll need to use - whether you want to extend this or not will depend on what you need to achieve, but do look at it, see what it is doing and then adapt it for your use. I provide it with no limitations to its use, but can't guarantee an 'A' from it!

  • Captivate 8: Can I create a random question pool from existing quiz slides?

I made a quiz for a client, published it out and everything works perfectly.  Now the client has decided that they want the questions to be random.  I have tried to add my existing question slides to the question pool, however I have no idea how to do this correctly.  Nothing I try seems to work - the only tutorial I could find was on the Adobe site and it simply said to create a question pool and then drag the slides to the timeline, replacing the question pool slides with the existing slides.  But I cannot drag the slides for some reason, and I am very confused about these directions, they don't seem to mesh with my version of Captivate.
My questions weren't part of a question pool when I developed this quiz as I had no idea such a thing existed. And now I see through every tutorial I find, a question pool is necessary for randomizing the questions.  So, my question is... is there a way to do this with existing question slides, or will I have to start all over again?

    Hi there
Should be even simpler. Select the question slides and right-click. There should be an option to send them to the desired pool!

  • Quiz of random questions

i have made a question pool of some 30 questions various
types.... fill in the blanks, matching, multiple choice etc
now i want to create a quiz of some random 10 questions....
one question on each slide. at the end i want the result to be
    declared.
now what i do is create a new slide with random quiz and it
creates one question from the pool and declare result. i dont want
    that. what do i do.

    Hi Nicky
I'm a bit confused. I thought you said you *wanted* to
present ten random questions. If that's what you want, that's how
it's done. You declare a pool, add questions to the pool, then
insert Random Question Slides. So if you want ten, you insert ten
different Random Question Slides and when presented to the user,
    they see randomizing.
Perhaps it will help if you state what you want or how you
    expected it to work.

  • QUIZ: Randomizing Random Questions

    Hi all!
We are working on creating several new quizzes for our
certifcation programs. Currently each of the quizzes contains
several Question Pools , each covering the a particular area of the
topic at hand. Each of these pools is then pulled from using the
Random Question slides in the story board. What I would like to
know is; Is there a way that I can randomize the random question
slides so that Topic B doesn't always follow Topic A and so forth?
    Thanks alot!

    Hi,
There isn't a way to auto randomise random question slides,
but you can mix these up in the storyboard in any order. Have the
Random question slides mixed ie slide 1 picks from Topic pool B,
slide 2 picks from Topic A, slide 3 picks from topic C, slide 4
from topic B again, etc etc
This will achieve the desired effect, with randomised
questions being pulled from each pool by the random question slide,
so they always get different questions.
    This deal with your question?

  • Convert quiz question to random question?

I'm using Captivate 3 and have a pool made up of 55 questions. Now I realize I should have created them as random questions. Is there a way to convert them? And I'm not sure where to go to specify that I want to use 50 of the questions when I publish the project. I didn't see it in the guide.
    Thanks!
    Barb

    Hi again
    You are almost there.

The Random Question slides each point to a specific Question Pool. You define the pools and which questions go into each pool.

  • Two random questions

hey guys.. i have two random questions..
    1) when you recalibrate your battery... after you drain the computer and leave it for 5 hours.. when you RECHARGE IT (before its fully recharged) are you allowed to use it? or are you only allowed to use the macbook AFTER it's recharged... (because in the instructions it only talks about using it for the 2 hours AFTEr it's rechaarged)
    2) also... i always wondered if there was a better alternative between amc the ripper and handbrake (since mac the ripper apparently can rip different region coded dvds)... but ir ealised mac the ripper does FULL dvd rips whilst handbrake converts it into like mp4 and stuff... is that true? (as in.. u cant do vice versa on each?)
thanks a buncho everybody! go the mac..

    2) I use handbrake if I am planning on watching the
DVD on my ipod etc and Mac the Ripper to copy
(Backup) full DVDs. Obviously I do this in America as
it's illegal for some reason in the UK.
It is illegal in the US too. Seems "fair use" does not apply to DVDs and disabling the copy protection (which you do when you rip your DVD via mac the ripper or handbrake) is against the law.

  • Random question slide not shown when FP 8 or FP 9 output

    Hi everyone
I've just begun to use Captivate a month ago, so it is not
that much experience I can contribute with by now.
One thing I have recognized is that I get some problems with
random questions slides made from different question pools when
using Flash Player 8 or 9 in the output otions.
When using Flash Player 7 everything works as supposed: one
random question is shown for every random question slide using one
distinct question pool for each random question slide.
When using one of the two others some of my random question
slides are not shown. There are slides that are played - meaning
that the player shows an empty slide for the time of 3 seconds -
but the content is not shown. This happens only for some of the
random question slides, and those are the same question slides each
time, I publish - but when working or dragging around with the
random question slides and publish again, the problem would come
with some other random question slides, not positioned the same
place as before, but showing the same problem in each published
    version.
As written before each question pool is only used once. The
different question slides used in the question pools are all
    duplicates, naturally with adjusted content.
Does anyone has experienced something like that before? Could
there be any other trouble with the content when using Flash Player
7 in the output options, like quiz not playing in newly updated
Flash Players ore something like that? Anything?
I appreciate your suggestions or comments! Thanks in advance
    and kind regards,
    Lars

Some more info - and a working solution...
I have worked on this topic a bit more - and found out, that
I have a problem with output option set to Flash Player 7, too.
When I delete every other navigation option than the "next
question" (what is it called in english?) button, I get this
    problem:
The quiz now "freezes" randomly, not every time, but again
and again. The quiz has both random slides from question pools and
    simple question slides.
I have found out, that putting the simple question slides
into question pools and then showing a random slide from those
    question pools fixes the problem.
Has anyone experienced problems like that? Other solutions?
    Kind regards
    Lars
Maybe someone has a similar problem.

  • Convert to Question Pool random questions?

We are updating a course we developed last year (prior to
Captivate 3). This year we want to apply Captivate 3's "Question
Pool random questions" to this course. Is there a way to create the
question pool(s) in this existing quiz, and then add last year's
questions to them without having to re-enter each question into the
    Question Pool Manager?
    Thank you for any tips!

    Hi Jan
Sure thing. Just convert the version 1 or 2 project to a
version 3 project. Then define a Question Pool. Once you have done
that, switch to Storyboard view. Select the question slides you
wish to add to the pool and right-click. You should be presented
with an option to add the selected slides to the pool.
Once you have moved the question slides to a pool, you would
then insert Random slides that point to the pool.

  • How to make Random questions work without closing and restarting?

I have a quiz using random question slides and random pools.
The random slides display random questions when I run the CP4 file, let it close then relaunch it. I'm using an LMS.
I would like to be able to repeat the quiz again without closing and relaunching, but my method does not work.
I tried using a button (retake) on the last slide to 'jump to' slide 1 when clicked. The quiz does repeat, but show the exact same questions.
I thought there might be a variable that would reset the quiz, but could not find one.
Does anyone have method to do this?
    Thanks,
    Dave

I don't know of a way. My experience is the same as yours. The quiz questions are selected and shuffled when the lesson is launched. When 'retake' is clicked, the quiz repearts the same questions. The only way to get a new set of questions is to close and relaunch it.
I suppose there's be some function to invoke or array to manipulate via AS, but I've no idea what that may be...
So no help here, just backing what you're seeing.

  • Random Questions are Not Random

The Question Pool has twenty-five (25) questions, and ten (10) Random Question slides in the project.  The frist time a learner takes the course the questions are randomly chosen, as they should be.  Assuming the learner fails and retakes the quiz, the learner is seeing the same set of questions; not a new 'random set.  Is there some setting that I am missing to give them a new random set of questions?  Thanks for any help!

Sorry, but that is the way random question slides are designed. The only way to have another set of random slides is to restart the module.

  • Random Questions crash

    Hi
I'm trying to use the Random Questions in Captivate3 using
built up pools of questions, every time I try to preview the
project it loads 25% and stays there for ever (hold the project).
Has any one come across a solution to this problem?
    Thanks
    Anahad

    Hi,
How big is the question-pool that you are trying to publish ?
Ideally a pool in CP3 should not have more that 15-20 questions, Also the project itself should not have more that 40-50 slides.
To check if this is a bug or not try out the following steps :-
    1) copy 2 questions from your pool.
    2) close the project.
    3) create a new project.
    4) open quiz pool manager.
    5) paste the questions to the default pool.
    6) add couple of random questions in the project.
    7) preview and check

  • Grabbing Random Questions for the Question Pool

    Hi Everyone,
I am interested in exactly how the Random Question Pool
works. Let's say there are 50 questions in the question pool and
you want 10 questions from that question pool of 50. When you
publish I understand you will get 10 random questions from the 50
questions. Then when you run your published project are you always
going to get the same 10 questions or another 10 of the 50 pooled
questions everytime your run that same published project? Or do you
have to publish again, calling the quiz another name to get another
10 of 50 questions from the question pool? I appreciate the help on
    this.

    Hi slewis6337
It is my understanding that each time you
display the Captivate output, you see a totally random
question. So if your question pool contains 50 questions, each time
your Captivate output presents the random question and draws from
the pool, it is truly drawing a totally random question.
I do believe that Captivate does keep track of which
questions have been used in the pool. To test this, try creating a
pool containing three questions. Then create four random question
slides that point at the pool. Then try running the Captivate. You
should see that as random question number four is encountered, the
screen goes totally gray. This is happening because you have
    exhausted the question pool.
    Sincerely... Rick

  • Branching with random questions

    Captivate newbie here...
I am trying to create a Jeopardy-style quiz in Captivate 3
using random questions which are contained in separate pools for
each question category. The game board is on slide 2 and it has 20
transparent buttons with "jump to slide" actions, each of which
points to a random question slide. The random questions slides have
a Submit button and a Back button, which I intend to cause a
backward jump to the game board. The branching tree view shows one
navigation arrow (black) from slide 2 to each question slide, and
each question slide shows "Jump to slide 2" actions for both
    success and failure.
I had hoped that the jump back to the gameboard would be
automatic after the user answers the question, but it isn't. The
Back button on each slide must be used to get back to the
gameboard, but sometimes it takes the user back to previous slides,
with their already-answered questions, and the user must hit the
back button many times to get back to the gameboard.
I used the downloadable sample Jeopardy game from this site
as inspiration, but it's not really a quiz. In it, the user does
not enter an answer; instead, the answer is presented via a
    rollover.
So I guess the question is, can you use navigation with
    random question slides?

Hi ImagineerBill and welcome to our community
As you have seen, Captivate isn't too keen on allowing
Question slides to be presented in any order. I know this probably
sounds contrary to how random question slides work. But please hear
    me out.
Captivate normally moves from slide to slide in a linear
manner. This introduces a problem if you desire to branch backward
    in a quiz.
The answer to your actual question of "Can you branch from
Random Questions" is that you can. But you need to consider how the
branching will work and how it may affect scoring.
We see a similar issue erupt when you wish to have a common
slide with many links that may be launched. Often, the person is
desiring that as the original slide is returned to, the visited
slide is somehow marked as having been visited. And as you have
seen, this is exactly how the Jeopardy style game works. It works
by exploiting a bug/feature/callit what you want with Captivate.
This is the feature of a slide retaining the moused over state when
you have a rollover on it that is combined with a Click Box object.
Because the slide is presenting the rollover as if you were still
mousing over it, it indicates the destination has been visited.
To be honest, I'm not sure a solution exists for what you are
seeking. Unless you might construct the random slides as a series
that must be answered in a specific order, but presenting random
questions until you exhaust the pool.
    Cheers... Rick

  • How do I only get certain questions appear in the quiz results?

I have created a course through Captivate 6, throughout the course there are questions to guage the learners attention. There is also a quiz at the end. However, captivate includes on the questions throughout the course on the quiz results which I do not want to happen.
Can anyone advise how I can only get certain questions appear on the quiz results please?

Branch aware turns off the playbar in 6 (not in 7 any more, at least not for me).
Could you explain more in detail what you want, because I don't understand it. You want the user to answer all questions, but the score should only show what? If you don't want some questions to have a score added to the Quiz total, you can indicate that in the Properties of that Question slide.
And please, tell the exact number (3 versions of 6), and also if you have to report to a LMS?

  • When I attempt to sign up for the Samsung website using Firefox on my macbook, it returns an error that the random question answer is wrong

I was attempting to create a user at this site:
    http://www.samsunggalaxys3forum.com/forum/register.php?do=addmember
It asks a "random" questions "Floors are horizontal, walls are ___?" When I hit submit, it returns an error that the answer was wrong. I tried several times using my macbook running firefox.
I get to work, where I am using an intel based machine running Windows 7, IE 9 and am able to register on the site and answer the question with no problem.
I have had the same problem on sites that use captcha - I cannot get past inputting the captcha phrase, as it returns an error every time, while using IE9 is problem free.
Is there something wrong with my setup of Firefox?

The Reset Firefox feature can fix many issues by restoring Firefox to its factory default state while saving your essential information.
