Random shuffle no longer works

I have itunes installed on my pc. Random shuffle feature no longer works. Latest version on itunes is installed.

Shuffle mode displays songs in the wrong order when you have the song number field selected in the first column. My iTunes displays a shuffled playlist in the order in which songs are added to library, not in the playlist order for shuffle mode.
Songs are not in the order in which they will play, shown above. They are in Date Added order in shuffle mode with song number selected as the sort order in iTunes. This IS an iTunes problem. Not an issue in iTunes 10 or previous.

Shuffle no longer working with headset

Today I got prompted to upgrade my iPod software so I did...and the shuffle (2nd gen) no longer works. The flashy lights were green orange green orange. I went to the help website and dutifully restored factory settings with iTunes. Still doesn't work. Played with various permutations of the off switch (including the 5 second wait mentioned on the help site)and repeating the restore pathway and that didn't work either. The shuffle loads music fine and iTunes recognizes it and even plays the music but when I undock it (making sure to disconnect the shuffle properly) and connect headphones and hit play, the green/orange blinkies reappear.
Any ideas?
itune version is 7.3.1.3
ipod version is 1.0.4
I suspect this may be part of the problem. I can't upgrade to the latest version of iTunes because of my OS (win 2000). So I'm hypothesizing that when the shuffle tried to update, it failed due to the old iTunes version and somehow the drivers got screwed up.
Also, I just downloaded the iPod reset utility and tried that to no avail.
Any ideas? or should I just go to a store?

It's not a hardware issue. I have the exact same circumstance. After being prompted and then updating the software on my shuffle, it quit working. All I get is the green-orange flashing light. iTunes recognizes it's connected, restore works, and syncing works, but the shuffle does not work.

After upgrading to 7.3.1.3, the shuffle option no longer works. I uninstalled and re-installed, still nothing. Any thoughts?

You could also tap the album artwork while the song is playing and turn repeat off.

IPod Shuffle no longer works after iTunes 8 upgrade

I'm not sure if this should be posted here or in the iPod Shuffle category so I'll post it in both places. I recently upgraded to iTunes 8 and I'm running OS 10.4.11. I have an iPod shuffle that was purchased new last December so I'm not sure what generation that makes it. It has always worked fine with iTunes 7 but now I can not get it to play. I can sync it with iTunes 8 and see that my songs and podcasts are there on the Shuffle but when I disconnect it and plug in the ear buds I get no sound. Nothing. I've tried to play with the volume, forward to different tracks, pause, play, etc. etc. Nothing. No sound coming from iPod shuffle at all now. It is charged up so that's not the issue.
I should also say that my Shuffle was working fine just moments BEFORE I synched it with iTunes 8 for the first time.
Is there a known issue with iTunes 8 and the Shuffle?

After searching the forum I finally found that others were having the same problem with the 1st Gen. Shuffle after upgrading to iTunes 7. Even though it was a different iPod Shuffle and iTunes version their solution worked for me.
All I had to do was delete the "Podcasts" folder that had been created for the Shuffle and voila!

Ipod shuffle no longer works after 10.7.5 upgrade!

I have the late 2009 iPod (Product) Red Shuffle 2 GB, always worked fine but after the Mountain Lion (10.7.5) upgrade it does not show up in iTunes.
Yes I have the latest iTunes and latest everything. I've already tried unplugging it and resetting the actual iPod. All the USB hubs should be fine I don't
even have all of them filled except for 1 that goes to the printer so I don't understand WHY it won't connect and show. It apparently is charging but I cannot
edit the songs on this iPod anymore. Any advice?

Song shuffle no longer works on iPad

Since the latest OS update to my original ipad, the shuffle function for music has stopped working. No matter what playlist or mode I am in, even when the shuffle icon is selected the songs will only play in order. Help!

Yeah my 8gb Nano has been doing the same thing for a while now also. I click shuffle and when it gets to an artist that I have more than one song of it plays all that artist.
Anyone have any tips on how to fix it????

Shuffle no longer works iOS 4.2.1 iPhone 3GS

So my 3GS was updated to 4.2.1 last night. Now when I select SHUFFLE in any of the playlists on my iPhone, I get to listen to the same song, over and over and over and over and over again. I have rebooted/restarted the phone twice now and still am not able to SHUFFLE my music.

I was wondering if anyone that uses spotlight to search for songs while they have shuffle on notice that, on 4.2.1., it will only play the song you search for. It will cancel the shuffle, and you'll either have to pick a new song or hit shuffle again. I'm wondering if there is a setting change for this or something I'm missing, cause it's ******* me off. I constantly use spotlight to play specific songs and normally it would continue with the shuffle playlist and now it's useless. I already restore the phone but id didint fix!

New ipod shuffle no longer working.

New 5Gen shuffle, set up fine out of the box. Played fine for a day or two. Then nothing. Won't charge. Red light comes on for maybe 5 secs when I plug into computer USB and factory jack. Totally dead. Itunes does not recognize it and my computer doesn't seem to know it's plugged in. Tried rebooting my computer to make sure all my USBs were active. Tried plugging into each, no luck. Tried plugging into different computers, same. Any suggestions on a fix?

That's weird.
Here are some random thoughts, sorry if they're not too awesome.
* Do you get the Manage Widgets window with no list in it? OR not even the window?
* How long do you wait for your list to pop up? On my (admittedly ancient)
powerbook, it may take a few seconds the first time I try it.
* You might consider looking at the Console log messages (set to "All messages") to see if
there are any error messages being generated when you ask to "Manage Widgets".
* You might try removing all your widgets manually via the ~/Library/Widgets folder. This
could be a workaround, I guess, too. But my thought is maybe there is a bad widget in there which is somehow clogging up the Manage Widgets thing.

ITunes 10.1 - Shuffle function no longer works correctly

The shuffle function on playlists no longer works correctly since the most recent iTunes update.
It will periodically stop playing without playing the entire playlist. It is a real hassle and kills the mood as you have to go back to the Mac and click play again. Please fix this issue as it is a very basic function.

Was that iTunes' safe mode as opposed to Windows' safe mode? iTunes safe mode is invoked by holding down CTRL+SHIFT immediately after clicking the icon to launch iTunes and continuing to hold until this message pops up:
Click continue, then close iTunes and reopen. With luck iTunes now opens normally every time.

After upgrading the software on my 3GS phone to 4.2.1 the shuffle function in the feature no longer worked. The same song played over and over again. The solution was super easy. On the home screen choose Settings > General > Reset > Reset All Settings. Unlike a restore none of your current data or media will be lost. Only took a couple of minutes. I had to set a few personal preference settings again like my ring tone and wallpaper, nothing major. Just a few taps and everything was back to normal. Hope this helps anyone having a problem after upgrading.
