Rating Music On 5G 30GB iPod

iPod: 5G, 30GB
OS: Windows XP
Sync: Manually manage music and videos
I've recently started rating my songs on my iPod so I can have a smart playlist for my favorites. I had rated a lot of songs on my iPod using the iPod itself since I was away from the computer and iTunes. When I connected my iPod to my computer, all my ratings were gone, and remain gone when I disconnect my iPod from the computer. However, when I make the ratings on iTunes on my computer, the rating remains when my iPod is connected as well as when it is not.
How can I retain ratings I make on the go?
5G, 30GB Windows XP
  Windows XP

I'm pretty sure I set it to automatic.
The "Manually manage music and videos" is UNCHECKED.
Is there anything else I could be doing wrong. This is so frustrating. I restored and resynced and everything too.

  • Music Not Transfering To Ipod

I was having trouble transfering music to my 30gb Ipod Video. I updated the software to the new Itunes 7.0.2. Tried it again and still having the same problem. The music is on my itunes but isnt transfering onto my ipod. All the old songs are on there, it is just these 2 songs im trying to transfer onto my ipod. Never had this problem before. Please help.

make sure that your ipod settings arent on 'manually
manage music and videos' because if that
is on then when you click 'sync' then
none of the music will go to the ipod, you have to
drag it manually to the ipod
I have checked this and the box isnt checked. The music still isnt transfering to the Ipod.

Once you have successfully done that you can go ahead and choose Erase and Sync when you plug your iPod in.

  • How do I transfer music off of my ipod 30gb into my library?

How do I transfer music off of my ipod 30gb into my library?

If you have any iTMS purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers has been introduced with iTunes 7. A paragraph on it has been added to this article: Transfer iTunes Store purchases using iPod
The transfer of non iTMS content such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there is a manual method of accessing the iPod's hard drive and copying songs back to iTunes on Windows. The procedure is a bit involved and it won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's posted in this thread: MacMuse - iPod to iTunes
If you prefer something more automated then there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. This is just a selection (Yamipod has already been mentioned above), you'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos and games as well. Have a look at the web pages and documentation, they are generally quite straightforward. You can also read reviews of some of them here: Wired News - Rescue Your Stranded Tunes

  • 30GB ipod erased all my music and videos

I was trying to load some videos to my 30GB ipod classic but what happend is that it started to erased all my music & videos. Can I get them all back if they are not in my Library?

If you autosync this iPod, and the music/video was not on the library you connected to, this is why it erased the information from your iPod. There is no way to retrieve it.
P.S. There is no 30 GB iPod Classic. Do you perhaps have a 5th generation iPod?

  • How to down load 30GB ipod music to my computer?

My 30GB ipod battery only gives me 5 hrs. of play time. If I do the download to check the battery, I will loose the music that was downloaded into the ipod. To save the music, I want to down load the 2.5 GB of music to my computer. How does one do this?

  • How do I load music on my new ipod without using itunes?

I am having tons of problems with getting itunes to pull up on my computer. I believe that my computer has a pretty nasty virus in it and it is causing problems with many of my programs (internet explorer, norton, and other programs). I am having my computer worked on later this week so I hope to get the virus taken care of. I am aware of the many different virus cleaners and checkers that are free to me on the internet and I do plan on using them. But right now the issue is time. I don't have any. I am leaving tomorrow morning on a trip and would like to have my nice new 30gb ipod loaded up with some music that I already have my laptop to pass the time on the flight.
Again I do not need a pitch for using itunes....I know how cool it is and I plan on taking advantage of it as soon as I return and have time to fix my computer issues. I just need to know how to load what I already have on to my ipod.
When I connect my ipod via the USB cable and pull up that drive I see the files: Calendars, Contacts, and Notes. I am assuming that I need to create a "Music" file that I will then drag-and-drop the MP3 copies from my computer to the newly created file. Is this correct? If not....then what do I need to do?
Thanks for the much needed help.

    Sorry jrock,
You can use iTunes files to load other mp3 players with music files but iPods don't function like other mp3 players. You can't just load mp3's onto an iPod and play them, you have to use iTunes.

  • The video button does not activate on itunes when i connect the 30GB ipod

I have a 30GB ipod. when i connect it to the computer and start itunes, and go to the "ipod" tab, and then "video", after that, none of the video buttons are active (such as "actomatically update all videos"; "do not update videos" etc.
I have the latest version of itunes and have also updated the software on the ipod.
    Please help me.

That's because you must have the iPod under the Music tab set to either
1-automatically update songs and playlists or
    2-automatically update selected playlists
for the video tab to be accessible.
Once you select auto update then go to the video tab and select auto update or playlist update for videos.

  • I have a 30GB Ipod Classic with sync question

I have not synced in quite a while. When I tried to sync this morning, I received the following message:
"The ipod is synced with another iTunes library. Do you want to erase this ipod and sync wit this iTunes Library"?
I see all of my music on the laptop library and all of the music ont he iPod itself, but i am concerned about what to do now.
    Please help.

are you sure you have a 30gb ipod classic - the ipod classic is only 80gb and 160gb - if it is 30gb it must be an ipod video.
would advise you to re-post your message in the correct forum so people can with more experience in the ipod video can help you.
    hope this helps!

  • What do you do when you buy your second 30gb ipod

i have nearly filled my 30gb ipod and am about to buy iether another 30gb or a 60gb. do i have to download i-tunes again for the new ipod ? or can i run both from the same store on two seperate accounts ? i expect that a new library would have to be created for ease of use.please help.

. do i have to download i-tunes again for the new ipod
    No.
can i run both from the same store on two seperate accounts
You don't run the iPod from the store. The store is to purchase music.
You definitely don't want two accounts for your music.
i expect that a new library would have to be created for ease of use
    Not at all.
iTunes is a music manager. If you start getting multiple accounts and multiple libraries, it kinda defeats the purpose of a music manager.

  • Videos on my 30Gb iPod

    Hi,
I have a new slim 30Gb iPod and it can't play videos. Well, iTunes won't copy them to my ipod. So Im not sure if the ipod can play them. Its new, there's a videos menu and nothing listed when I go there.
The ipod is new and the box also says it can play vids.
The edit/preferences/ipod/videos tab in iTunes is grey'd out.
I can put vids into iTunes, convert vids in iTunes but not get them to the ipod.
I can use the windows file manager to get them to the ipod but that doesn't help.
    Anyone got ideas?
Music is fine. Well, I don't like the way it sorts them, I have no control but hey...

What you are doing wrong is you have not read the tech specs for the iPod.
iPod will only play mpeg4 videos with certain formating or h.264 videos.
    Actual specs for video:
Video formats supported: H.264 video, up to 1.5 Mbps, 640 by 480 pixels, 30 frames per sec., Low-Complexity version of the H.264 Baseline Profile with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps, 48 kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats; H.264 video, up to 768 Kbps, 320 by 240 pixels, 30 frames per sec., Baseline Profile up to Level 1.3 with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps, 48 kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats; MPEG-4 video, up to 2.5 Mbps, 640 by 480 pixels, 30 frames per sec., Simple Profile with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps, 48 kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats
To get commercial dvd's onto the iPod you will need to find a program to break encryption and rip it to your hard drive. Then you need a transcoder to convert it to the proper file format.
On a Mac, just get Instant handbrake.

  • Backing up music files from 60GB iPod (directly) to an external hard drive

I'm interested in backing up all of the music that's currently stored in my iPod. First off, I suppose it would entail knowing how to locate the music files within the iPod, and then figuring out how to upload.
One step I'd also prefer to avoid is to have to copy my music onto my laptop (to iTunes) and then reroute to the external hard drive. Would it be possible to just route/copy the music directly from iPod to external hard drive? I don't think I have enough memory to house all of my 30gb worth of music all at once on my computer, so if I do end up having to go through the laptop, I'd have to download in batches.
Ultimately, I'm just trying to avoid having to download all of my music files from my CDs again. It took me two months last time, which is way too long an ordeal.
Any help/ tips/ previous threads on the topic would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Senuti won't work on Windows, it's for Mac only.
Try Yamipod. This is a similar free program which works on both Mac and Windows that transfers music and playlists etc from iPod back to the computer. However, it does not transfer playcounts/ratings etc.

  • 2005 30GB IPOD W / VERSION 7 ITUNES WILL IT WORK

MY 1ST QUESTION IS WILL A 2005 30GB IPOD WORK WITH THE VERSION 7 ITUNES UPGRADE? AND QUESTION 2 IS WILL THE EXISTING LIBRARY IN MY OLD VERSION GO AWAY IF UPGRADE IS DONE? HELP ME PLEASE.....

Wow, only someone who has used WinXP could think like that. I'm sorry for what Bill Gates has done to you all. When you upgrade iTunes it will work with all past iPods and it will not erase any of your music. You don't have to fear anymore... this is Apple you're working with.

  • Transferign 'Music' folder back onto iPod

    Hello,
I have an 30GB Video iPod and I needed to restore it due to some technical problems. I took the Music folder off my iPod and put it onto my computer. After I restored my iPod, I pasted it back into the right folder of my iPod but now nothing shows up on my ipod.
Does anybody know how I can put the folder back into my iPod and have my music show up?

How did you get the music off of your ipod? I'm needing to send mine in for a new battery but I know I will get it back and all of the music will be gone, so I'm trying to find a way to back it up before I send it in. Itunes will only let me back up my library, and thats not what I need. Thank you.
