Re: 64-bit Windows 7 installation on Qosmio F60

Hi,
So about a month ago I bought a Toshiba Qosimo F60 which gave me the choice when I first turned it on between 32 bit and 64 bit Windows 7.
Not knowing much about the difference at the time I just picked 32 bit but now after reading up about it I realize that may have been a mistake. . .
What I want to know is if theres any way I can still install 64 bit Windows 7 without purchasing a CD
(Laptop didn't come with one)
Not sure what the CD key is either . ..
Thanks.

Hello
Im not 100% sure because my Qosmio F60 was delivered with Windows 7 64bit only but I read in other threads that you can have both recovery disk (32 and 64bit) when you start Toshiba recovery media creator. This tool will create bootable recovery disks for your notebook with an image of factory settings.
Can you please start this tool and check if it creates recovery disk for both versions?

  • ORA-12533 Coupled with 32 bit & 64 bit Windows client installations?

    Hi all,
I have the 32 bit Windows client version 10.2.0.3.0 installed on my Windows 7 64 bit machine. My TNS files where configured properly, and my connections were working just fine within our web applications.
Recently, I've begun to work on a C# Visual Studio console application and when running this app against the very same databases that I have been connecting to before, I ran into this initial error:
Attempt to load Oracle client libraries threw BadImageFormatException.  This problem will occur when running in 64 bit mode with the 32 bit Oracle client components installed
So, I installed a 64 bit Windows client version 11.2.0.1.0 (I did not remove the 32 bit Oracle client).
Now, with both the 32 and the 64 bit Oracle clients installed, I can still access all my previous web applications. However, the console app (which, again, is accessing the same databases from the same host/starting location) is now giving me this error:
    ORA-12533: TNS:illegal ADDRESS parameters
I've looked around, and what I've read indicates a problem(s) with the ADDRESS parms in the TNSnames.ora file.
Yet, my TNS file was not changed...and still works as needed for the other, web based apps. I have, however, only 1 TNSnames.ora file...located in the original 32 bit client installation folders.
Why would the console app choke with the ORA-12533 error, when the web apps still work?
Does each client installation require a TNSnames.ora file? I noticed that the 64 bit installation does not have the \network\ADMIN folder path (nor the actual TNSnames.ora file) like the 32 bit installation does.
    Thanks in advance.
b.t.w. I can still use (with both client versions installed) my SQLPlus to connect to the databases.

    Hi,
The 32-bit client and ODP is supported on x64 with .NET applications running in 32-bit mode. You just need to make sure your application pool enables 32-bit.

  • Is Elements 8 a true 64 bit Windows 7 product?

Having just two months ago bought the upgrade to Elements 7, I was very unhappy to find that it is not listed by Microsoft as being compatible with Windows 7 in either 32 bit or 64 bit mode (http://www.microsoft.com/windows/compatibility/windows-7/en-us/Search.aspx?type=Software&s =photoshop&os=64-bit).
Although the same MIcrosoft site and Adobe both say that Elements 8 is compatible with Windows 7, there are a number of web sites that are saying that version 8 still only operates in 32 bit mode even when running on a 64 bit installation of Windows 7. I really do not want to be aying out another $100/£100 for an "upgrade" to find that I will need to pay up yet again in a few months time for a genuine 64 bit version.
There appears to be no categoric statement about this on the Adobe site. Can anyone provide an answer?
Is Elements 8 a true 64 bit version, or does it run in 32 bit even on a 64 bit Windows 7 installation?

A number of people have reported that PSE 8 runs well on Vista 64 and Window 7 64. But it is very possible that Adobe will decline to provide customer support for either configuration.  See this FAQ for more information:

  • New Apple 64 bit Windows 7 BootCamp Drivers!

I, like several hundred thousand others have been patiently waiting for the promised 64 bit Win 7 boot camp drivers. I have still heard no announcement since the one that said they would be available before the end of 2009.
Well, today I purchased a new 2.53Ghz Mac Mini at the Atlanta Apple store, and was surprised to find that the installed OSX was the current 10.6.2, be even more surprised to see that the boot camp drivers on the install disk were dated in November. Another identical Mac Mini purchased in November had boot camp drivers dated in July.
I went ahead and partitioned for boot camp, and ran the 64 bit Windows 7 OEM installation. It ran just fine. I was really surprised to find that the boot camp setup program on the new Mac Mini disk installed 64 bit drivers without hesitation, and it seems to work just fine.
So, I guess they will be in general release quite soon, but I am happy to have mine, and will use it to install my other versions of Windows 7 on my MacBook Pro and IMac.
    Finally!!!

After running the boot camp assistant, I get the same message that you have received, that Boot Camp allows the running of Windows XP or Vista. Windows 7 is not mentioned.
I am not sure what that really means, though, since that is a message from within OSX 10.6.2, which is unchanged. The problem for me has previously been with the Windows Boot Camp drivers after the installation of 64 bit Windows 7, when I got a message to the effect that the version was not supported, and it would not run the driver installation program on the Windows 7 side of Boot Camp. I never had a problem running the MS 64 bit Windows 7 installation disk program, I just couldn't get the needed drivers to load in the prior version of the 3.0 driver which is dated in July. I do not have the build on the older version that was supplied to me with the prior Mac Mini purchased in November.
At this point, when I run the 3.0 Boot Camp installation drivers after installing 64 bit Windows 7 from the MS install disk, it installs normally, and seems to be running just fine. I cannot, of course, vouch for whether these are the final drivers for Boot Camp, and I rather suspect they are not.
But at least they allow me to install a working version of 64 bit Windows 7, which I have not been able to do since Windows 7 left beta.

  • Qosmio F60 - No additional touchpad and Fn function after Win 8 upgrade

I recently installed Windows 8 on my Qosmio F60 and now I have some issues, I think it might be driver related but not sure which drivers in particular.
    1. The touchpad still works for moving the pointer but swiping along the right edge doesn't scroll anymore, I have had a look on the drivers webpage but cant find which driver I need it install to make this work. Also does anyone know if there is a Windows 8 driver so that i can swipe the edge to bring up the charms and switch tabs?
    2. The FN keys no longer work so i can't control the brightness or the other functions along the top row of the keyboard.
If anyone can help with either of these issues that would be great.
    Thanks,
    Phillip

    Hi
As you can see there are no special Win 8 drivers fro the Qosmio F60 series.
    Its not Win 8 supported.
However, I think you should be able to use the Win 8 upgrade drivers released for Qosmio F750.
    Try it.

  • Windows repair installation Pavilions a6720y Windows Vista 64 bit

Can you provide a Windows Repair Installation Disc?
I recently had a serious PC problem. I knew that I would have to hand my PC over to someone and selected a Local Technical Specialists (Geek Squad) who diagnosed it as a crashed main HD, installed a new Drive and reinstalled the OS from recovery disks provided by HP.
I personally had to reinstall many programs and settings. I needed specialist assistance to reestablish my home network that did work before the crash with the same hardware but not after.
My Main PC is a desktop:
    HP Pavillian,
    Model a6720y,
Windows Vista Home Premium 64 bit,
    6GB Physical Memory,
connected to a DSL Modem via Ethernet connection.
My second PC is a Dell Pavillion B130 Laptop, Windows XP
DSL Modem provided by Verizon, is a WestTell modem.
I have an External 1 TB HD from HP, a HP HD3000, Ser # TH1B32Y047
The System Recovery was performed with discs that I received from HP. System Recovery, Windows Vista Home Premium SP1, HP505283-001, Build ID 91ANv6PrA1.
I am contacting you because I believe that something went wrong with the reinstallation or there was more that should have been done after the initial Reinstall.
Within hours of bringing the PC home, I discovered that Windows Media Player was not working. I contacted the local support organization. They advised that yes there was a problem with Windows Media Player and downloaded an alternate program for playing Videos, VLC.
After installing several 3rd party program that were Video DVD maker Utilities, I started to have problems that did not exist before the reinstall. This is of course with the same hardware except for the new Internal HD.
I contacted the local support because I was having serious problems reestablishing my at home local network. I was informed that there were some serious Vista problems.
Can you comment on the above?
Can you provide a Windows Repair Installation Disc?
My PC is out of warranty but I did purchase and renew that HP Care Pack Support Service. That may also have expired. My last renewal that I can find was Tran # CA03207588-0001.
Your response to the above, especially your advice on a Windows Repair would be appreciated.

I'm trying to install Adobe Photoshop CS3 on a new ASUS ASM11BB001O computer equipped with 64-bit Windows 7.  I use a "bundle" approach, first loading Photoshop 6, then upgrading with CS upgrade and then CS3 upgrade.  The installation goes smoothly until I add PS CS, and then it balks at the "accept" Adobe conditions screen.  I have two other (Gateway) computers with Windows 7, 64-bit, on both of which the PS-6, CS-CS3 pathway worked fine.  Any thoughts on how to get this working?  Thanks

If your goal is to install and activate CS5 there is no need to install anything preceding it.  You will only need to have the serial number from the preceding version that you upgrade from (CS3 I guess).

  • Coldfusion 64 bit windows installer stops working after recent microsoft update

Coldfusion 64 bit windows installation stops working after recent microsoft updates and how I worked around it.
My question is at the end.
Trying to deploy coldfusion 9 enterprise 64 bit trial  version onto a Windows 2003 64 bit datacenter OS with all OS updates from MS (as of 4-7-2011).
Steps taken (remember, this is all 64 bit):
    1. Installed the base OS which was slipstreamed with SP2.
    2. Checked w/ microsoft and installed 63 OS updates.
    3. Launch the CF9 trial exe.
    4. As soon as the first screen finishes (the one that looks like  it is extracting files) then the second screen pops up (the one that  simply says CF Adobe Coldfusion 9) and the progress bar quickly moves  95% to the right and the install application quits. No error, no nothing. No log file either.
    5. After a moment of incredulous silence (and retrying/rebooting,  etc), I started to google it. I found nothing. However, I did find a  post (thanks dspent!) that was helpful in that it told how he was able  to get at a log file of sorts, by pre-extracting the  coldfusion_9_WWE_win64.exe file and launching the adobe_cf.exe by hand.  (Dspent's install snafu was different than mine, but his post was very  valuable and got me started in the right direction.)
    6. Got a copy of rarunzipper and extracted the coldfusion_9_WWE_win64.exe file.
    7. From the windows directory created by step 6, I launched adobe_cf.exe.
    8. Same thing (the install application quits. No error, no nothing. No log file either.).
    9. I examine the hs_err_pidxxxx.log file (where the xxxx is a number).
    10. I see inside that file an ominous message: "A fatal error has been detected by the Java Runtime" then "Problematic frame ntdll.dll" and then "The crash happened outside the Java Virtual Machine in native code".
    11. OK, so now I am thinking ntdll.dll !! Native code !! It is like Java is telling me that for some reason it can't dance with the OS.
    12. On a hunch, I decided to test a CF install again on a server with just the base install of W3K3 64 SP2 (ie: skipping step 2 above this time).
    13. Bingo! That install works.
    14. Therefore, one of the 63 patches I had downloaded from MS had triggered a problem with the CF installer.
    15. Back on the first server (the one with the MS security  patches installed and the one that CF won't install on). In the CF file  adobe_cf.lax (one of the files extracted in step 6) there is a line that  mentions where the install gets it's java. Find that file, and check java version installer is using. It is using 1.6.0_14-b08.
    16. Off to the Java website, and there is a newer version of java (1.6.0_24-b07). Downloaded and installed it.
    17. Modify a line in adobe_cf.lax :
       before
         lax.nl.current.vm=resource\\jre\\bin\\java.exe
       after
         lax.nl.current.vm=C:\\program files\\java\\jre6\\bin\\java.exe
(that assumes that you let step 16 install to the default location)
    Save the file.
    18. Run the install ... ** IT WORKS ** !
Obviously, the built in java provided with the CF installer is  no longer compatible with some change introduced by some recent MS  update on the W2K3 64b SP2 platform.
And now the interesting part. Although I forced the installer to used the new java, it did not incorporate it into the cf build (ie: in jvm.config, you still see c:/coldfusion9/runtime/jre AND the  version of java.exe that is in that directory is the original version,  not the newer version I forced the installer to use).
On the surface, CF seems to run OK, but I have not done any application testing yet.
    And finally my
    ** QUESTION **
Would it be appropriate to simply point the java.home var to the new java directory? I see that the directory structures and files are not exactly the same  (close though) so I certainly don't want to break things by doing this,  but instinct tells me that if the installer broke using the older  version, then something else is gonna break down the road if I don't use  the new version. On the other hand, the differences in the  directories and files is enough that it makes me very nervous, with my  limitied java skill set, to make this decision.
    Thanks in advance!!
    Byron

    Hi Byron,
Wow great post no doubt much of the information will be useful for those on Win03 SP2 +. Have to say not come across similar problem on Win08 r2 SP1 +.
So to your question. Adobe security bulletin (http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/894/cpsid_89440.html) recommends running CF8 and CF9 with JVM 1.6.0_24. The bulletin does not say how to do that. I take you installed JDK and not just JRE 1.6.0_24? Post install of JDK follow these steps:
Stop CF - SERVICES.msc stop "ColdFusion 9 Application Server".
Take a copy of CF\runtime\bin\jvm.config - so you got a backup.
Edit CF\runtime\bin\jvm.config find line "java.home=" and comment it out eg:
    #java.home=C:/ColdFusion9/runtime/jre
Add new line like so and save jvm.config:
    java.home=C:/Program Files/Java/jdk1.6.0_24/jre
Note  there the slashes and the location of the JRE (runtime) - you need to  point to the one in JDK because the other JRE in C:\Program  Files\Java\jre6 will be missing a DLL.
    Start CF via SERVICES.msc.
    HTH, Carl.

  • Windows 7 installation on a Qosmio G30

When performing an advanced installation of Windows 7 on a Qosmio G30, the HDDs are not seen.
I mean, on the screen where I am supposed to select the drive to install Windows, there is nothing on display.
Do I have to uodate the HDDs drivers? If yes, I was not able to find them out on Toshiba web site.
If there is an other problem, please explain.

If you go into the BIOS at boot do you see the drive(s)? If no then then you have no hard drive(????) or you have a problem with the system. When you take the advanced option in install you see the physical drives (Disk0, Disk1, etc.) and the logical drives (C,D, etc) that they are partitioned into (and any free disk space). If you are seeing Disk 0 and nothing else then take Disk advanced option link on that screen to partition the drives.

  • 64-Bit Windows 7 Load Driver Installation Problem

I am new to Mac and have recently got my hands on a new 17" MBP.
The MBP is a 2011 model dating from about May.
Not wanting to step 100% away from Windows I want to install Windows 7 as well and run Mac OS.
I have tried installing Windows 7 32-Bit and it worked absolutely fine - no problems at all.
However, when I tried to install 64-Bit Windows 7 I ran into a problem very early on in the installation.
Before the part where you select the partition to install Windows on, I get a "Load Driver" message which reads:
"A required CD/DVD drive device driver is missing. If you have a floppy disk, CD, DVD, or USB flash drive, please insert it now."
I cannot eject the DVD to replace it with the Windows Support DVD that I burned (which I assume has the relevant drivers on), so I am a bit stuck.
I tried googling and a few people suggested burning the disk at a slower speed, which I did and it made no difference at all.
The fact that 32-Bit works lets me know I am doing things right, there must be something about the 64-Bit that the MBP doesn't like.
Any help much appreciated. I have 8GB RAM and would like to use it all with both Mac OS AND Windows so 64-Bit is preferred.
    Thanks in advance.

Try downloading the trial. It ought to detect that you have a 64-bit system.
You aren't using Vista, are you? PSE 13 requires at least win 7 and I think a few folks with vista have gotten a similar error message on trying to install it.
