Re: Best video camera to work w/ FCP

Hi All!
I need a video camera that is easily compatable w/ FCP. My husband bought a Panasonic SDR-H85 and
I would need a $99.00 video converter...and I don't like the camera..not crisp...too grainy.
So I am looking for a family video camera ranging from $300.00-400.00. We shoot basketball games,
ski trips and baseball games. And we have imovie, which is fine, but my job has FCP and I have a copy on my imac here at home, so I would like to have my home videos in FCP because then I can
add effects and make them sing!
Thanks for all your help!

Seriously - you think X was being rude?
I think he politely told you everything you need to know. Really - this question comes up a LOT. Search is your friend:
http://discussions.apple.com/search.jspa?objID=f939&search=Go&q=bestvideocamera
That turns up almost two hundred posts in the last 90 days alone. Granted, not all of them will be what you need, but some of them will be. X was just trying to show you how to fish...
If you have questions after doing that level of investigation, you can ask specifics...

  • Best video camera to use with iMove '11 for iMac

I'm looking for the best video camera with no difficulties for iMovie. Just to be able to plug in the camera with out having to load additional software or any other difficulties.
Or if any one else knows what type of file format is specifically needed for macs? MPG4 or AVI?
    Thank you!

I'm interested to buy a Nikon photocamera Coolpix S8100.
This camera is NOT on Apple's list of supported cameras to use with iMovie 11. Nor is the camera Canon SD3500 as mentioned by you, I thought ...
Do you think I could use the Coolpix S8100 camera as well with iMovie 11 ?
    Or could I meet a problem ?
In my opinion, the camera will work with iMovie '11, HOWEVER....
I have a Canon SX30IS bridge camera [that is, not a camcorder], and the HD videos work absolutely fine on iMovie with one - for me - important problem.
As my camera is also not supported, when any number of short video files are loaded in together, iMovie will not understand the sequence they were taken in, and MAY load them in a fairly random order into a project.
This is not a problem where one or two files are concerned, but where there are more, it can be a major problem if you want them used in sequence.
You either have to load them into the project one by one, manually, or be able to identify clearly from the thumbnails which is which, or the order will be all wrong. It IS possible to relate what you see as a thumbnail back to the original file, but only one file at a time, so you can't use the thumbnails to work out the order, if the images shown don't do that for you.
I have used videos from 5 unsupported digital cameras, and even an 8mm cine conversion file quite successfully, so I have no doubt that the Nikon will also work.

  • THE BEST VIDEO CAMERA...??? ..^_^..

    ..HEY GUYS..
I'm thinking to buy a video camera for using with IMOVE-08 very soon..but I was wondering which one could be the best .. there are so many brands out there that i can not chose one..!!
Does anybody know which one could be the best VIDEO CAMERA..? I don't care about money and I'm looking for something good that I don't want to change for a long time..!!
If you have any ideas please let me know...

I did a lot of research on the issue, which you can read about here:
    http://www.kbeat.com/Site/Blog/Entries/2007/9/10New_camcorder%2C_HD_atlast!.html
After much consideration, I went with the Canon HV20, and I've been very happy with the results. I use it on a recent MacBook Pro, and have not had a single issue. You can read a great comparison article featuring the Panasonic Steve Jobs mentioned, the Canon, the JVC, and a Sony:
    http://www.camcorderinfo.com/content/The-Great-HD-Shoot-Out---Canon-HV20-Sony-HD R-HC7-Panasonic-HDC-SD1-JVC-GZ-HD7.htm
Good luck. I don't think you can go wrong with any of the cameras they reviewed, but the Canon has the best image, which was my number one priority.

  • How do I connect my Sony HD video camera to work as my webcam on a mac-mini

I have just purchased a 2.5GHz 4Mb mini-mac.  I am using a Samsung HD TV and want to use a Sony HD video camera as a webcam.  I have mini-display port, HDMI port and thunderbolt port on the mini-mac.  The video camera has mini HDMI port and I have mini HDMI to HDMI cable.  I also have HDMI to mini-disply connector.  So far I have tried connecting the TV via the HDMI to HDMI cable and the camera via mini HDMI to HDMI/HDMI mini-display convertor to the mini-mac.  The TV is showing the display but the video camera (turned on!) doesn't automatically appear or show in either Finder or as available when I am trying to set up Skype.  Then tried swapping the two around at the mini-mac with the TV now going through the HDMI to mini-display convertor and the camera going to the HDMI port.  Same results as previous set-up.
Can this be made to work? Is there a HDMI to thunderbolt convertor that will work?   Is this plug and play technology or are there more complicated set-up [rocedures?  Any help much appreciated.

  • Video Cameras that work with Mac software...

I am a new Mac user (3 months and still learning) and My wife is a photo freak. She is wanting to get a new camcorder and start editing some of the footage she gets. Which camcorders out there have people had success with on the Mac??? We currently have a low end Sony that will not work. It does not have a USB connection and burns footage to miniCDs. We're looking for something that we can plug in and get to editing. Any advice would be much appreciated.

Any DV or HDV camera will work (writes to MinDV casettes and has a firewire port for DV video transfer). Prices range from about $175 to $6000.
Other than that, cameras that record MPEG4 and can be accessed as USB mass storage devices will work too. With those, you are sacrificing quality of the video for the speed of transfer to the computer (DV and HDV transfer 1 minute of video in 1 minute). With MPEG4 video, the data has already been compressed and encoded with some quality loss.
There are also DVD/MPEG2 recording cameras. These have very similar properties to the MPEG4 ones but require additional software on the Mac, and, if mini-DVD, require an external DVD drive.
Personally, for home video I use a Canon ZR100 -- very small and simple camera. Quite basic, but I get pretty decent results (particularly outdoors). I'd prefer a nice 3-CCD model but that just wasn't in the budget at the time (maybe soon).

  • Best video camera to use with Apple TV?

I have Apple TV and love it so far. I want to buy a video camera, and need to know what is the best choice for a camcorder in the $200-$300 range, that will record quality video which can be easily downloaded into iTunes and played on Apple TV. I know there are issues with converting video from the "pocket" HD cameras such as the Flip and Kodak Zi8, so it can be played on Apple TV. I don't mind making such a conversion if it's easy and doesn't require a big expenditure on additional software/ accessories.
My set-up is: iTunes 9 on a Dell PC with Windows XP
Apple TV (connected via wireless network)
    Samsung 52" LCD HDTV

I want quality video that can be easily downloaded into iTunes and played on Apple TV. I don't mind standard definition if it will still look good on a large HDTV. Two concerns I have with the HD cameras (other than price of course) are file storage issues, and the problems with converting the HD video files so they can be played on Apple TV. I don't mind doing such conversions, just as long as it's not too cumbersome and doesn't require a big expenditure on additional software or accessories. I actually just bought the Kodak Zi8, but it seems incompatable with iTunes, and I'm not really all that impressed with the image quality for an HD camera.

Thank you for posting back with your notebook information.
here is a link to a video for getting access to the webcam.  You are going to have to check the connection cable to make sure it has not come off if it is still connected then you will have to replace the webcam.

  • Why is my video cam NOT working again after it had been sent in to get fixed already

    Model Number: QE024UA
Model Description: HP PAVILION DV6-6169US NOT
    Serial Number: 5CH1430SD9
I had my computer sent to get the video cam working... they sent it back and it worked for about 2-3wks and is not working again also when I call someone elses computer I can hear and see them but they can no longer see or hear me. Cant see due to video not working again again on my part but they used to be able to at least hear me.. Now neither works. I have written plenty of messages to HP (at least 3 that I remember) but with no reply. Not a happy camper right now about this. When I bought this computer It had everything I thought I needed and more for my basic use. I chat on facebook Play their game and browse the web.. watch my netflix. I never really needed a video cam but now since family life has changed and I live so far away from them I specifically ordered this computer cuz of its high quality in video plus I liked the fact it played Blue-Ray. I used to have a Dell that lasted me a good 5yrs of usage. I have had this less than 3mnths and twice the cam has gone out on me.

I'm avoiding buying anything else to use my iMac and had the same problem. I have PC headset with mic and headphones and also a Motorola bluetooth headset, neither worked how they should, no mic function:
I can use the pc headphones that I already had (just didn't input the mic jack part), and the iMac built-in mic together as I chat.
Just go to System Preferences and make the Sound settings for Output to built-in Headpones and Input to Internal Microphone -select "Use ambient noise reduction.
Its a get-around, but it works.

  • Video (Camera) stops working after a few seconds (Windows XP)

On starting a video call on Skype, the person I am connecting with can see me in the video.  I cannot see them - only a still picture.  Then within a few seconds the camera stops working, and a line appears through the camera icon.   Skype suggests that there is another application using the camera - but there is no other program using the camera. The camera remains unusable until I quit Skype and restart it... but once again it will only display my video for 4 or 5 seconds. The camera is a fairly new Logitech HD webcam C525, and the computer is running Windows XP.  Skype reports that it is the latest version of the program. Any help gratefully received!

    Hi again
You said you have three buttons on the slide with two of them
configured for "No action"? Why? What is their purpose if you are
doing nothing when they are clicked?
You also said the buttons aren't pausing. If the buttons
aren't pausing the slide, it is probably simply playing and ending.
Sounds like you are expecting the slide to pause, so I'm confused
as to why you removed the pause action from the buttons.
    Cheers... Rick

After I updated my phone my video camera is no longer working.  I try to change from picture to video on the select but nothing happens.  Although the camera/picture still works.  I'm able to take pictures just fine.

Restart Mac and try again.  If you are still having trouble, see Apple's http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2090
(Over time, Apple has changed the built-in camera's name on newer Macs from "iSight" to "FaceTime" and then to "FaceTime HD."  Regardless of the name of your Mac's built-in camera, the same info and troubleshooting applies.)
