Re: color adjustment to sky.

what's the best way to change a gray/dirty white sky to blue?

Please ask him/her to get in touch with me.  S/he does not understand Aperture, and probably doesn't know that the difference between DAM/Digital Photograph Developers and Graphics Programs is compositing.  Live and learn, indeed.  You can print this and take it to your Apple Store.
The Tint Brush can be used to change the hue of any pixel.
Let's clarify some terms:
Color -- an observed phenomenon, precisely specified by Hue, Luminance, and Saturation
White -- no color data, 100% luminance
Black -- no color data, 0% luminance
Gray -- a color of any luminance value in which all color channels have identical luminance values
Hue -- a specific part of the spectrum, generally understood as a range from red to violet by way of orange, yellow, green, and blue
Luminance -- the degree of lightness and darkness
Saturation -- the degree to which a color deviates from a gray of the same luminance
Mid-tone -- any color with a luminance that falls within the broad middle of luminance values
Dark -- any color with a low luminance
Light -- any color with a high luminance
Highlight -- a very high luminance color, often reflecting a light source directly to the viewer (a/k/a luster light)
Shadow -- an area of diminished luminance caused by an object obscuring light
So -- you wish to change lights in part of your image to somewhat saturated blues.  The first thing to realize is that this is either a photography problem (you blew out the lights and there is no data there) or, perhaps, a graphics problem (you wish your photograph to vary from the data you recorded).  Aperture does not _add_ data to a photograph.  It _adjusts_ what's there -- that is, outside of organizing your photos, its entire remit.  If you need to add data, you will have to use a graphics program (that's what they do).  If adjusting the data that you captured with your digital camera is sufficient to your needs, then Aperture can likely do so.  You will most likely want to lower the luminance (so that you can saturate the color), change the hue to blue (if it is not) and increase the saturation.  Lowering the luminance can be done a number of ways; many users prefer one way over another.  The Tint Quick Brush can be used to change the hue, but I would first try changing it using the (mis-named) "White" Tint control that is part of the Enhance Brick.  Then I'd try to increase the saturation of the sky using the Vibrancy Quick Brush.

Vignetting added and color adjusted immediately post import into lightroom5.
My photos from my most recent trip, when imported into Lightroom, have a heavy vignette very close to all 4 corners of the photo, and seem to have some small adjustments being done to them immediately when I import. The thumbnail looks great, and when i import --> then select it to open it as if I was going to view it full size in Lightroom, it looks great [no vignetting or tone/color adjustment] for about 1-2 seconds while a 'loading' footer is shown, following which the color is slightly altered and the vignetting is added (at this point then the thumbnail changes as well). This is a significant and noticable change to the photo. The pictures also do not have these issues if I view them through any other software. I have Can any one help me figure out what is causing this and remove it?
    I shoot
    with a Sony Alpha6000
    shoot in RAW (.ARW)
use the standard sony kit lens that comes with the camera bundle, lens SELP1650 (3.5-5.6/16mm-50mm)
    edit on Windows 7 64bit with Lightroom5
and don't believe I've adjusted any camera settings since last taking pictures 1 week ago with the exact same lens. I looked at photos from my last trip (only one week ago), and none of them are having these or an alterations/changes upon import.

  • Color Adjustment - Not Effecting Color Selection

I could use some help doing color adjustment. I'm using the Color adjuster to adjust the grass in one of my photos from Green to Yellow. When I do this, some of the blades of grass are still staying Green. I added another color adjustment and selected one of the Green blades of grass with the eye dropper tool. Unfortunately when I try to adjust it, they stay the same color (green).
Am I doing something wrong? I thought the eye dropper would be able to select the green I'm trying to adjust, so I can adjust it's Hue.

    Hmmm...
Have you tried to expand the range parameter? Try pushing it all the way up to the max to see if you can make this adjustment have some sort of noticeable effect. You can, in fact, overload this parameter by typing a value greater than '2' into the value box - the maximum in this case seems to be '20'. (You can always pull it back or even reset it to '1.00' if required.)
Failing that, try and make a test adjustment in, say, the water - in the bright patch at the right. I reckon it has a hue of about 215º to 200º. Sample it and push each parameter all the way to the right. This should give it a distinctive bright purpley/pinky cast. If this doesn't work for this image, then there's something fundamental we're missing here.
    Regards,
    Gary
PS No, I don't simply look at an image and say that such-and-such an area has a hue of about 68.4º - I pulled your screenshot into Aperture and tinkered with it!

  • Selective Color Adjustment Layers

Maybe someone can guide me on how to remedy these questions about Adjustments Layers changes in CS4:
    1. Selective Color adjustment.  When entering values manually, "undo" will now (in CS4) only undo the last digit (all other versions would undo the whole value just entered).  Exp: if I enter +25, and then want to immediately change to +10, pressing Command Z only will undo the "5", not the whole "+25".  This has been possible for over a dozen years, so not sure why it won't work now.
    2. Old key commands for cycling through each color in Selective Color no longer work in CS4. "Command 1" used to toggle Red, "Command 2" would toggle Yellow, etc.  Again, this has always been possible in other versions.

Okay, here's the link I found to the plugin and info on the changes.
    http://blogs.adobe.com/jnack/2008/10/shortcut_changes_in_cs4.html
sure change is good, but after 15+ years using the same keys (well most have been the same now since v4.0), having to pause for the first time and take 2 days to learn how to use something you have used everyday without hiccups on previous versiosn - it gets frustrating, and loses valuable time for yourself and clients.  How embarrassing to be in front of clients and realize you don't know how to bring up feathering because it both changed in the menu, and the key command no longer works...
    thanks again Mark

  • Color adjustment eyedropper bug

    Hi there.
When using the color adjustments in Aperture I've found that the eyedropper doesn't work as it should.  Everytime I try to select a colour using the eyedropper it selects red.  This is regardless of which of the 6 color spots I can select from.
Has anyone else found this issue?

The Color adjustment Brick comprises six separate adjustment panes.  (To see them, click the "Switch to Expanded View" icon -- third from the right of the three at the top right of the Brick.)  Each pane effects one hue.  The hues can be individually selected -- and can be _any_ hue.  The Brick defaults to evenly distributed hues, RGB interleaved with YCM.
With one of the six hue positions selected, you can click the eyedropper and set the hue for that pane of the Brick.  If you click a red hue, it will set that pane the hue of the red you clicked.
Are you clicking colors other than red and having the selected hue show as a red?

  • Color Adjustment trouble

    hai,
since yesterday, everytime I restart FCPX all my Color Adjustment pucks are set to -100% to all of my projects. I can see the images but they're uncorrected. When I move one of the pucks the image turns black until I've reset all of them to 0%. It's the weirdest thing, very bothering and time consuming.
The latest update 10.0.8 is installed and I'm currently working on a project with Sony f5 material. Sony's new import plug-in is installed recently. I trashed my preferences but the problem is still there. I've also turned off all of the old projects with EventManagerX.
I'd be very happy if anyone has an idea what I should do to solve this.
    thanx.

Tom Wolsky, thnx for your reply
i've been shooting HD (1920 x 1080 interlaced PAL) material on XAVC, not using proxy as the HD format is the proxy when shooting 4K with the Sony F5. the problem is: this situation doesn't only effect this project but the color adjustment pucks on all of the other projects are set to -100%, too. Fortunately non are important at this moment. my current project is, though, and I can't seem to return to the situation in which everything worked okay.
    you got a clue?
    again, thanks for your help.

  • Automatic color adjustment on different monitors ?

    Hi there,
I have a new setup with three monitors, and I see a strange behavior when I move lightroom from one monitor to the other : there seems to be an automatic color adjustment made in the photos. On my center monitor they are warmer, and switch to a colder color on my other monitor. I have attached screen shots at the bottom.
Here is a detailed explanation of what I do :
    - I have Lightroom opened on my center monitor. My photos have a kind of warm color cast (my screen is not very well calibrated). Lets call this color "Color A"
    - I start to drag the Lightroom window on my other monitor.
    - When I drag the window on my right (or left) monitor, I still see color A in my lightroom photos even if my window is now on my right monitor.
    - Only when I drop the Lightroom window does the color of the images switch to the colder color cast B.
I don't see how this could be related to the monitors because the color doesn't change when the window cross from one monitor to the other, but only when I drop it (release the mouse button).
    Here is my setup :
    - Left and right monitors : Samsung XL2370 (DVI)
    - Center monitor : AOC Q2770 (Display Port)
All these are plugged in 2 Sapphire Radeon HD 5770 Vapor-X (Crossfire).
When I had only tow monitors (both using a DVI connection), I noticed no color change when I switched monitors... Could this be because of the DisplayPort connection ? Why is it only noticeable in Lightroom (and only in the photo part, the color of the application (buttons and such) doesn't change... Is there somewhere an option for an automatic color correction depending on the monitor into which Lightroom is visible ?
I have tried to search on forums and support sites, but honestly, I don't really know what to search for ! Any help would be really appreciated.
    The screen shots :
On my center monitor, and on my right monitor when I drag the window (and still hold the mouse button) :
On my right monitor, when I drop the window (release the mouse button) :
    Thanks,
    R. Giskard

Hello R_Giskard, did you find a solution?
I have the same problem and I did a lot of research to solve it with no success.
I recently bought a Dell U2713HM Monitor and plugged it on my  Dell Studio XPS M1640 (Mid 2010) laptop, which runs on Windows 7 64 bits. This laptop has a RGBled screen.
I calibrated both screens (laptop and external) using a Spyder 3 elite device.
Strangely, when I look at photo open in Adobe Lightroom 5 or Photoshop CS6 and I move it between the two screens, it appears way more saturated on the U2713HM Monitor. For example, the skin tone  on a person is overly orange.
What is striking, is that when I move the LightRoom window from a screen to another, the color saturation only changes when I drop the window, i.e. if I move if from the laptop screen (where colors are paler) to the U2713HM Monitor, the colors remain pale on the external monitor until I let go of the mouse.
It's as if a different color profile was applied to the picture as soon as it "lands" on the other screen.
The change occurs similarly one way or another.
    best regards,
    NC

  • Color Adjustment Problems

Can someone help me figure out what I'm doing wrong or what is going wrong.  I am trying to get rid of green eye on a dog but I cannot seem to pick the eye color from the photo.
I'm starting with the green adjustment (not that this matters). I'm trying to pick the actual shade from the photo.
So I click on the color square:
The hues I get when the cursor is over the eye vary from oranges to yellows even though I see nothing under the cursor that looks anything like those hues.  But sometimes I can get a hue that looks close, like in the shot below:
So I click and the result I get in the color adjustment often is nothing close to the color I picked. In this case it became red:
    Any ideas?

I posted a problem related to this (but not exactly the same) a year ago and tried all the usual troubleshooting steps then with no success. The problem was on more than one computer and with photos from different cameras. I gave up and assumed it was a bug that would get fixed. I haven't touched the color adjustment bar for a year. Since that time I have installed a new video card, upgraded to Mountain Lion, installed every available update, and have rebooted many many times. I have also reinstalled Aperture from scratch (from disk) at least once and gone through all the Aperture updates. Today I did try trashing the Aperture preference file and rebooting. Neither worked. Prior to a year ago I had no problem.
The color bar works some times then will quit working. Other times it returns the wrong hue from the eye dropped (as described here), sometimes I get what looks like the right hue but the sliders have no effect until I "apply to entire photo" and all of a sudden the change takes effect.  I was finally able to coax it into submission for this photo but it took more than a few tries.

  • Epsom R2400 Printer - turning off color adjustment in CS3

Printing very well with R2400 in CS2 but.....
In Photoshop CS2 there was a button to allow Photoshop to control the color printing by selecting it and later to select 'no color adjustment' This worked out great.
In Photoshop CS3 I can also select Photoshop to control the color management but the images come out wrong. Cannot find ' no color adjustment button.' CS3 Help says "turn off color management for printer profile settings.' Where or how do I do this?
Thanks for any help you can provide. Roy

HI Ramon, After PRINT and in the Epsom R2400 dialogue box (layout page) there are only the following selections offered:
Color matching (nothing available to select)
    Paper Handling
    Paper Feed
    Cover Page
Printer Features (use for my selections but no ability to to turn off color management)
    Summary
In CS2 there was a color management Dialogue Box and I selected NO Color management and printed with confidence,
Am I missing something here? Do you use Match Print Colors?
Falling behind in my work and appreciate your time, Roy

  • Can you bring "no color adjustment" back?

When printing a picture in Photoshop CS4 and selecting "Photoshop adjusts Color" there was an option"no color adjustment" in the "Printer Profile" drop-down box. This was very useful for the profiling of some printers (such as my HP Designjet Z3100), which do have a "no color adjustment" option if one selects "Printer adjusts color". In Phtoshop CS5 this option was eliminated. Adobe produced the "Adobe Color Printer Utility" to solve this problem. It would be very nice if Adobe could restore the "no color adjustment" option in the "Printer Profile" drop down box the way it was in Photoshop CS4. The Color Printer Utility works, but it is a rather clumsy solution to the problem.

    In File > Print
For Color Management > Color Handling
    Choose Printer Manages Colors
Which will push the image directly to the printer through the printer's driver without Photoshop adjusting color numbers.
At that point make sure the printer driver is setup appropriately for your print purpose and ink and paper!
