Re-installing archive version of Tiger

I've been having major problems with my mac not going to sleep or starting up. Was wondering how hard it is to reinstall the Tiger without erasing my programs or data. I heard it takes up significant space, but when it's done do I get that space back? Not sure if I worded that right.

Archive and install (with user preservation check box checked) will take your user information and downloaded/installed applications. Anything that is just put on the hard drive you have to pull out of previous systems manually, but no data will be lost as long as your hard drive is large enough

Unable to install Full version of Tiger 10.4 or even any part of it!

Ok. Now that I have a full version of Tiger. I am unable to install it. Have done first aid several times to the drive. Done the one pass of Zero's as well as verified the drive. I have tried the installation approx 7x. It would hang up at different points. 2x i got the Black screen with the 6 different Languages to restart the system. Using Apple Mouse and Keyboard. Oh, and pulling out my hair does not help at all with it working either, i know it now, I did it!!

Another possibility: could the 256 MB RAM chip be bad? Faults in just a few memory locations could cause problems during install. Usually, if RAM were suspect, I'd suggest using Memtest in single-user mode, but that's not workable in this case, where there's no OS on the hard drive. Since the odds of happening to have a known-good DDR PC2700 memory chip lying about aren't high, you can at least try pulling the RAM that's in the eMac now, cleaning the connectors, and re-seating the ship, in either the current slot or the other one. There's a small but non-zero chance that the RAM is slightly loose in the slot, and reseating ould help. RAM installation instructions are at eMac - Do-It-Yourself.

on my MAC 10.4 while trying to install this fp archive after using the uninstall download provided by Adobe?

It sounds like you might have a corrupted zip. Could you try downloading and trying again? You might also want to try an alternative compression program, I've had success with Unarchiver before (free).

Power Mac G5 Dual 2.3 freezing from Archive Install of Leopard from Tiger

Just archived and installed Leopard from Tiger 10.4.10 and on all our Macs, but our only PPC system is having serious issues. The system boots up fine, faster than before, however the Finder and desktop freeze when booting into any of the two user accounts. Applications run from the dock, but the Menu Bar isn't loading fully (airport, bluetooth, clock, etc don't load). I have run Activity Monitor from the Dock and systemuiserver and finder both freeze. I have reset the PRAM and NVRAM, and in the one instance I was able to get into the files I deleted the systemuiserver and powermanagement plist's.
Upon many hours of research with Apple and at home, nothing seems to be the solution. If I can't resolve this I may have to install a copy of Tiger (or Leopard) on an external HDD, boot and attempt data recovery from the main HDD (if nothing is locked) as a lot of Quicken 2007 files are needed and perform a clean install. If any one is able to give any help I'd greatly appreciate it. Thanks!
Also, the Power Mac G5 is Dual 2.3 late 2005 model (specs: http://support.apple.com/specs/powermac/PowerMac_G5_Late2005.html ), with 1 GB RAM, ViewSonic VGA monitor, NVIDIA GeForce 7800 GT with 256MB of GDDR3 SDRAM, Airport + Bluetooth, and wired keyboard and mouse. Thanks again!

B) Take serious precautions. Back everything you need onto a separate HD and perform a clean install (which formats your HD), then move everything copied back into the system to ensure no data is lost and nothing corruptible is carried over into Leopard.
Performing the clean install seemed to take care of any conflicts and issues, but means more time will be spent manually backing up and reloading all personal data.

Install disk vs. Tiger Retail

Have a G5 quad core (came with Tiger) that's having frequent app quitting issues and kernel panics. Called Applecare, and they said they need the original install disks in order to troubleshoot further. Unfortunately, we lost the original install disks, and Applecare has tried to ship one set a week ago (after we purchased the set) and now they are telling me it's lost and they don't have tracking information. Today they said they'll ship out another set, but it won't get here before the weekend, which is when I was planning to work on the system.
So, my question is - if I go to the Apple Store and buy a full retail copy of Tiger, will that have all the necessary software to at least Archive and Install the system? I've read here and on other Mac resource sites that the A&I function is a fix for a lot of system issues.
I assume this is something similar to the "Clean Install" in the OS 9 days, so I think that might be the best path to resolve the issues. While waiting for the disks (that ultimately got lost), I went ahead and tried a few things: I copied the system to another internal drive and ran TT Deluxe on the original system/drive. All tests reported fine, except for the actual last operation (file/disk scan?). It found and fixed numerous major file and directory issues (after running it over and over for what felt like 3-4 hours). I think there were some system files affected, because the system does not want to start up from that disk anymore (black screen with a single command line at top of screen), even though TTD and Disk Utility report the disk as OK. I switch the startup disk to the system "copy" and we are currently limping along with frequent app crashes and some non-working system apps. Very annoying, and I need this fixed right away.
So, I was thinking running an archive and install on he original system will get us up and running again. Provided, of course - that function is available with the retail version of Tiger.
Any thoughts?

TT Deluxe passed the RAM with no problems.
Also, the problems started months after we installed this RAM.
Are you telling me that I need to buy RAM directly from Apple in order for the computer to function correctly? This sounds like they've learned some business strategy from Intel pretty quickly. Take an OEM supplied item that was historically known in the industry as a free and openly competitive market (memory), driving price down to benefit the consumer, and make it Apple only, requiring their users to buy from them and pay a price well above fair market value? This is like owning a Ford car, and being told by a Ford mechanic that the car will only run right with Ford tires at $200 a pop.
Aren't they making enough money with the iPods?
How about at least partnering with their RAM supplier to sell the RAM w/o the Apple brand and premium price? Or, does Apple make RAM now too? Lord help us.

Where can I download an archived version of Premiere CS6?

I've been using Premiere for a couple months now, and I'm in the middle of a project and I uninstalled Premiere CS6 to install the new CC version, but what I didn't know is that Encore was not included in the new CC version, and I still need that for this project. I know by the Creative Cloud FAQ that it is possible to download an archived version of CS6 products, but I have been unable to find that archive anywhere. Please help.

Trying backup and install software version 7.0 Bundle 2416

I can't help but have the same problem trying backup and install software version 7.0 Bundle 2416?   Anyone got any ideas - my 9900 is now completely unusable and is stuck on "Backing Up Your Data"!!

Unable To Install -- Older Version -- of FLASH

Hi,
I have latest version of FLASH Player in my system( Windows 7 ). But due to some reason I have to install Older verion of Flash in my system.
But when I am trying to install older version I am getting error message saying "Newer Version is available please visit http:// .... ".
Please let me know how can I install older Version of Flash.

I haven't done this in Windows 7, only XP, but I imagine something similar will work....

Install Mac OS X Tiger 10.4.11 on a pc

I recently bought a new laptop (not Mac) and I was wondering if I could install Mac OS X Tiger 10.4.11 version (the same version i am running on my mac mini).
Or i can only enjoy mac world through dual boot process????

I recall reading about some emulator that will run some flavor of MacOS on a PC but I'm almost certain you can't simply install MacOS on any old PC without some sort of emulator, and maybe not even very successfully then -- otherwise they all would be running OSX . The closest to that so far is OSX on Intel Macs.

Installing previous version of flash player

a) when posting earlier I got something of a not authorized error
b) when searching for a flash player forum, most were greyed out
c) my endless searches for a forum admin regretfully remained in vain
As my last restort I am posting here...
I have resp. want...:
1. uninstalled Flash Player as outlined on http://forums.adobe.com/message/4041846
(How do I do a clean install of Flash Player?)
2. IE11 x64 and Firefox on my Windows 7 x64
3. downloaded/extracted fp_10.3.183.20_archive.zip and found below files suitable for installation

4. installed flashplayer10_3r183_20_win.exe, but for IE this was not suitable

For some reason (long story) I need an old version suitable for FF and IE to be installed.
Q: how am I to proceed ??
i.e. what files no I need for these two browsers?

Hi,
The implementations of Flash Player in Chrome, Internet Explorer and Firefox (and even Firefox between WinXP and Win7) are all significantly different software.
In the face of the modern security threat landscape, one of the security-in-depth measures we've taken is an approach called sandboxing, which attempts to isolate the Flash Player processes that deal with untrusted content, and handles that content while operating with the least privileges possible. This way if a potential exploit does slip through our defenses and our process ends up under the control of malicious code, that code lacks the permission to do anything interesting. All of this additional processing and communication comes at a cost, and the sandboxing approaches in Chrome, IE and Firefox are significantly different. Modern Chrome and IE browsers impose sandboxing on plug-ins at an architectural level, while we've retrofitted a sandboxing approach to Firefox.
A retrofitted approach is necessarily less efficient, and you're seeing a bottleneck there as we pass each downloaded packet through multiple processes in order to achieve the necessary level of isolation. We've already tuned this significantly. I think you would see a performance jump in Firefox if you went back to Flash Player 10, because you would have a version that pre-dates protected mode.
Long story short, diagnosing network problems using Flash is probably not the best approach.
The bandwidth measurement tool is downloading data through Flash because it makes it easy to write a pretty user interface. This is probably not representative of most of the things you're downloading, aside from streaming video.
The version of Flash installed isn't going to affect a typical file download in the browser, or your BitTorrent throughput.
Having one sample for each browser isn't enough to draw any meaningful conclusions. There are too many possible factors that could affect throughput to allow you to use a small sample. This data is going to be very noisy. At minimum, you'd want dozens of samples at various time periods for each target.
There are excellent, purpose-built network diagnostic tools available for conducting a meaningful analysis.
With respect to the confusion about what asset to install:
Our archived versions are intended for use by Flash developers with an understanding of the technology. All of these versions have known security vulnerabilities, and we absolutely do not recommend them for general web browsing. You should always run the current version of Flash Player.
Internet Explorer uses ActiveX controls for plug-ins. Most other browsers use the Netscape Plug-In API (NPAPI Plug-In). Chrome and Chromium-based browsers use a more modern PPAPI (Pepper Plug-in API Architecture).
So for Internet Explorer, you want the flashplayer10_3r183_20_winax.exe (win = Windows, ax = ActiveX) installer.
When a website presents you with an "Install Flash" message, that message is generated by JavaScript on the page. Sometimes that JavaScript makes bad assumptions (like Internet Explorer or Flash versions will be single-digits) or they require a minimum version of Flash because they're dependent on Features in those versions, or want to encourage you to be secure.

Tiger or panther - is there a version of tiger that works for power mac g4

I was searching for a version of Tiger that shows system requirements are compatible with a power MAC G4 - all I find is the 10.4 version of Tiger that shows system requirements as power PC G4 (not power mac G4). Wondering if anyone can help me out.

How to import old mails form Panther mail version to Tiger mail version

Hello!
I just updated my iBook G4 from Panther to Tiger and learned, that there is no easy way to import my old mails from Panther mail version to the new Tiger mail version.
Tiger runs on a different partition than the Panther system, so all the old "things" are still there because they were not overwritten with the update.
I read about the work around with the "emlx convert" program - but I couldn't find the emlx-files in my .../library/mail folder! *There don't seem to be any emlx-files on my system!*
Does anyone know what I could be doing wrong here?

If your mail is still there, it has to be inside your individual mailboxes in ~/Library/Mail/[name of mailbox folder]; otherwise you could not see it or read it when you open Mail on 10.3. Each mailbox is named like this (example only): [email protected], and inside that folder are individual folders for your Inbox, Sent, Drafts, Deleted messages, etc., and inside those folders are your messages for each mailbox associated with that email account. Look inside those folders to find out if any messages are there; they should be.
On your 10.3 partition, Copy your ~/Library/Mail folder to the Desktop of your 10.4 partition so you're working from a copy in 10.4 when you try to export and import mail to 10.4 Mail. It's also easier to look inside your account folders instead of going back and forth between different OS X partitions.
As for downloading and installing Eudora to try exporting from Mail 10.3 and Importing into Mail 10.4, .hqx files are an older compression format used for files on the old Mac OS system, so you can download The Unarchiver to decompress the Eudora .hqx file.

Installing older versions

I am about to sign up for Creative Cloud, and would also like to download and install some older verions of ID, as well as CC. (as far as I can tell, I'm entitled to this)
I currently have CS4 and CS5.5 installed (windows 7), and would like to install CS5 and CS6.
Just to make sure I'm doing this right - I would first uninstall 5,5, then install 5, 5.5, 6, and CC in that order?
And hopefully I wont't need to uninstall my preferences for 5.5?

Well, it does actually say on this page that
Creative Cloud paid members have access to a select set of archived versions of the desktop apps. Starting with CS6, select versions of each of the desktop creative apps will be archived and available for download. Archived versions are provided "as is" and are not updated to work with the latest hardware and software platforms.
But it's not clear to me whether this includes CS5.

Can't install any version of Safari for my Dad

I'm visiting my dad, and trying to get Safari installed for him. Somehow he managed to trash it - we're not sure how. Now I can't install any version of Safari. 1.x is too old. He's running OSX10.4.10 so 2.0.1 doesn't work either. I really don't even want to put 3 on here - he's a very basic user and doesn't need beta headaches.
The only disks we have are the system disks ... do I have to reinstall an old version of system to get Safari working for him?

Have a look at this Apple article for installing other software, including Safari, from the Tiger DVD - see the section titled More custom reinstallation options with Mac OS X 10.4.
Steps to take in addition to the Apple article:
Move the Safari.pkg file in the HD>Library>Receipts folder to the trash.
As a precaution, prior to reinstalling Safari, move the Safari Folder, found in the User Library to the Desktop. It has the personal bookmarks, history etc. Once the reinstall is completed, move the folder back to its original location writing over the newly created folder.
Remember too, the version of Safari you install will be specific to the Version on the installer DVD. Therefore, either run Software Update and see if Safari updates appear. If not, reapply the 10.4.10 combined update to bring Safari up to the current version.
Repair permissions via Disk Utility in your Utilities folder when you are finished.

CS 3 Unable to install enterprising version with serial number screen opening

unable to install enterprising version of CS 3 without serial number screen opening.
History:
originally download trial version it expired before I could deactivate it
also installed CS (1)
followed detailed steps to uninstall both of these.
However computer must think that it is doing an upgrade and asks for a serial number which I don't have
