Re-installing Mac Mail on Tiger

A well-meaning friend of mine managed to delete my Mac Mail application. All I need to do is re-install it, and I thought that would be simple enough with my installation discs that came with the computer when I bought it.
So I inserted disc 1, double clicked "Optional Installs", and checked ONLY the box for "Mail" under "Applications". I thought I had successfully re-installed the software, but when I went into my Applications folder on the computer the program still wasn't there.
What am I missing? Any help would be appreciated!

Hi, and Welcome to the discussions!
That should've worked.
Verify the HD with Disk Utility, then Repair Permissions, reboot.
Were their many Permissions fixed? May pay to do it again.
If still no show, did you open the Trash and see if the old one was there?
There are more than one Applications folder, there's one at root, and one in every User's folder.
Were you logged into an Admin account when you did that?

  • Can I install Mac OS X Tiger 10.4 on a dell Optiplex Gx280?

Hi! I have a couple of questions which I can't seem to find the answers too.
    1) Can I install Mac OS X Tiger 10.4 on a Dell Optiplex GX280?
    2) Can I take the HDD from the aforementioned Dell and place it in my Power Mac G4 Digital Audio? If so, will Tiger still be on it?
    3) If I can't install Tiger on my Dell, can I rip the DVD drive out and use that to install?
    4) HDD's don't have to be Mac specific, do they?
Thank you for your valuable time,

  • Install Mac OS X Tiger 10.4.11 on a pc

I recently bought a new laptop (not Mac) and I was wondering if I could install Mac OS X Tiger 10.4.11 version (the same version i am running on my mac mini).
Or i can only enjoy mac world through dual boot process????
    Thanks a lot in advance!!

I recall reading about some emulator that will run some flavor of MacOS on a PC but I'm almost certain you can't simply install MacOS on any old PC without some sort of emulator, and maybe not even very successfully then -- otherwise they all would be running OSX . The closest to that so far is OSX on Intel Macs.

  • Re-Installing Mac OS X Tiger on MacBook Pro Fails

    Hi,
I'm attempting to re-install Mac OS X Tiger from the install DVDs that came with my new MacBook Pro. About 1/4 way through the installation, the install quits and it says that it couldn't install and to try installing again. I do that and the same thing happens. What could possibly be wrong?

    Hello Chris.
Any particular reason you are attempting a re-install?
Are you trying an Archive & Install or Erase & Install?
Did you check the hard drive for any directory problems via Disk First Aid repair via Disk Utility when booted from the install disc #1 before proceeding with the installation?

  • Installing Mac OS X Tiger on an external hard drive

I was wondering how to install Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger on an external hard drive. I have a 40GB USB/Firewire LaCie Mobile Hard Drive.
I've tried using disk utility to convert it to Mac OS Extended (Journaled), but when I attempt install Mac OS Tiger from the system disc after restarting the computer, it shows the available disks that Tiger can be installed on and the ones it can't be installed on, and my external drive shows up as one that it can't be installed on for some reason.
I don't really want to clone my internal hard drive to the external one, but instead want to just be able to use my external hard drive as a mobile startup disk where I can work on files using other Mac computers when I'm away from home.
    Any suggestions?

What did you do in DU? Erase? Partition? and what was it before? or just to enable journaling? What is on the LaCie now and does it have adequate space?
Do you have an upgrade Tiger disk?
And why not just clone the system using CCC and skipping /Users and other directories you want to skip?
One last thing: click on the volume and do a Get Info and make sure that Ignore Ownership is not selected.

  • I need help installing mac os x tiger, disc 2

my macbook successfully installed disc 1 of mac os x tiger, within minutes, however when it asks for me to insert disc 2, and i do so, it almost finishes installing the disc, then an error message pops up, saying "there were errors installing the software, please try installing again" i have repeated this process at least 20 times, and the same thing keeps happening. i can't even use my computer regularly since everytime i open it up this happens! please help!

Hold the Moyse button down to eject Disc #2 while booting up, at the same time hold the Option/alt key down to have the startup manager pop up, insertt Disc #1 & wait For Disc #1 to show as a boot choice.
That second Disc thing happens frequently, the best way around it is to do a Custom install, and eliminate enough Printer Drivers, Languages, Fonts, and Applications you don't need... then it may skip #2 altogether.

    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    5. Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."

  • Is it possible to install Mac OS X tiger on a Windows based computer?

im really getting frusterated with windows, but i dont want to spend 500 for a mac. all im really asking..is it possible to install MAC OSX Tiger on a windows based computer? my computer has a dvd drive, CD-RW drive, 512 MB of RAM, and a nivdia G force 4 graphics card.
i guess my main question is if i can install the MAC OS X on my computer. you know how if you have a computer, you can just buy the Windows XP program and install it? can i do the same with the MAC OS X? please help..
      Windows XP

    Hi got_jorge,
Sorry, this is not possible, as it is not only a matter of data that you put on the Hard Drive.
    Everything is different:
    CPU, Firmware, Power Management, etc.
It just doesn't work the same way.
    May I suggest?
Sell your computer, so that you can get a Mini and (most probably) don't need to buy a display, as yours should make it with the Mini?
    Sorry.

  • Issues Installing Mac Os X Tiger

    Hello,
A week ago arrived my new MBP. Time came to sell my old Powerbook 12" 867 640 Mb of RAM on which was installed an original copy of Tiger. For such reason I had to erase my drive and make a brand new setup of Os X. Installation goes perfect, Welcome video comes, I insert new user data and, once concluded, blue os x desktop shows, with no Menu bar and anything else. After this the blue desktop becomes a little bit darker until it shows the "spinning clock wheel" (hope you understand me). After that it comes again back the blue desktop and so on.....
I tried to install more than once Os X 10.4 but the problem is still there, even though the installation disk check up ends saying no errors, even though, through Disk Utility, no errors were found on the disk and even though no Privileges were found corrupted.
Finding any solution to the problem I installed the original Mac Os X copy which came with the laptop: Mac Os X 10.2.3. Everything works fine and the installation ends perfectly! So, I try to install Mac Os X 10.4, but it ends up giving me the same problem.
I even removed RAM and Wi-Fi module, but nothing chaged.
I also tried the solutions illustrated at this pages:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106464#symp1
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106464#symp3
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106464#symp5
    ...but nothing helped!
Did anyone experience a similar problem? Or has suggestions?
    Thankyou very much
    Lord_Nick

What happens if you initialize the hard drive prior to installing OS X? Also, are you installing OS X 10.4 from a generic disc? If not, that might be the problem.

  • Help installing Mac OS X Tiger from Panther 10.3.9

I'm using a iMac 700MHz PowerPC G4, flat screen kind, with 512 MD SDRAM currently running 10.3.9 Panther. It has a CD/DVD-Rom drive so it can normally read them. However, when I insert the install DVD, a message would pop up saying that "The disk could not be burned (for whatever reason)" and would list the error code of "0x80020043". Now, as I'm sure you all know, the Tiger install disc is a read-only DVD. So why will it not read it and allow me to run the installer for Tiger?
My iMac used to be able to play DVD Movies as well, but something happened to the DVD-ROM drive so that the DVD Player won't even work. Is there some way I can fix just that issue to get the Tiger disc working or do I have to go through a big complicated restoration mess?

This is kind of odd, going back and forth between my posts... Anyway, it doesn't say Drop-in Upgrade DVD, just the CPU Drop In DVD.
If this helps: the iLife '05 Install DVD, the plain ol' Install DVD won't work either. We get the same error code. 0x80020043, or numbers similar to that. I think those are the exact ones. Our Mac thinks that I'm trying to burn stuff to the disk, but I'm not and they're obviously read-only disks.

  • Unistalling and Re-installing Mac OS X Tiger

What are the steps to follow for uninstalling Tiger OS from my mac and then re-installing it? Actually what I want is to reset all my hard disk.
    Thanks in advance.

    Then it is fairly simple,
Place the Tiger install disk into the computer
Start the computer with the "c" key held down so that it starts with the install disk
Once started select from the menu at the top of the screen "open Disk Utility"
With Disk Utility select "erase" with the options of hfs and journaled
If you are selling the computer and worry about any information on the disk you can also select the option of thoroughly erasing with writing zeros for one or multiple times
Click "erase" and the hard drive will be erased as you selected
After erasing you can also use this time to partition the hard drive
Once finished, quit Disk Utility and continue with the installation of Tiger with the install disk.
After installation you can choose to update to 10.4.10 or what ever and I would use the combination installers. It does not hurt to repair permissions before updating and may help prevent later problems (especially true with 10.0, 10.2, and somewhat with 10.3. 10.4 has greatly reduced permission issues IMHO).
    I hope this helps.

  • HELP!  Trouble installing Mac OS X "Tiger" 10.4

    Please HELP!
Trying to install new OS "Tiger" but every time I put it in the Installer, it runs for a few seconds, and then pops out again. No screen pops up with install icons.
Disc looks fine - no scratches.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks - Heidi

    Hi Kappy -
My sister gave me this computer, so I called her, she said Adobe is a CD.
I called Apple store and asked if they had the SuperDrive - only problem my OS needs to be 10.2.3, and mine is only 10.2.
So now what do I do? My last question (when I started this Mac adventure - you helped me) so I got everything, AirPort base station, AirPort card, and this Tiger OS. I didn't think there would be any problems. I just saw tonight that at the end of that string of questions someone chimed in and offered this info about this very potential problem - http://www.oreillynet.com/mac/blog/2005/05/thecats_mustachesinstalling.html
Is this a big waste of time and $? I don't have another Mac available, so it seems I need an external DVD drive. From what I've read it sounds like this may not create a stable OS?
So what is my best option? Do you know what most people have had success with?
    Thanks, I appreciate your help!

  • Would like to install Mac OS X Tiger on my Mac Mini

I would like to install Tiger on my Mac Mini, currently I have Mac OS X 10.3.9 on there. 1.42 GHZ PowerPC G4, 256 MB DDR SDRam, 80 Gig Hard Drive. My question can I install it, would it run okay or do I need more RAM. My problem being I can't afford more RAM. Also how do I install Tiger?
    Thank you.

Unless one of these features appeals to you more than losing your easy Find File command to Spotlight's Find index, or you have software which must have Tiger to run, I wouldn't upgrade to it:

  • Can I buy // install MAC OS X TIGER on a PC?

I was wondering if it was possible to buy a version of MAC OS X for intel based laptops. I know I can buy a MAC with MAC OS installed on it but I don't have $2000 to spend on a computer that I already have, I just want the operating system.
    Thank you.

MiniMac is cheap but I dont really need a desktop(or LilBox) computer, I just want a laptop... But I think Imma buy the MacBook Pro and if I don't like it I'll just sell it on eBay. Tired of windows! Always something wrong with it!!!
I searched on google for OS X intel, I've seen people are able to install it on very specific hardware and the Restore DVD that comes with the MacBook... But with all the things they have to do to install it, i doubt it's still 100% mac and it seems it takes hours to install it completly and then you need patched or third party drivers so it's really not worth it... hehe
Thx for the info Wade Peeler.
Well, Well I have to go check where I can buy this, and for how much! so see ya people! Thanks for your help ^.^
    Mike.

  • Need to Install MAC OS X Tiger!!!!

Windows XP was installed on my macbook, I formatted the HD and now there are no OSs installed on the macbook. My macbook optical drive does not read DVDs anymore so I cannot install Tiger. I tried Firewire Target Mode using another computer's optical drive to install Tiger on my macbook but it did not work. I called Apple.. nothing. I searched google and apple's support... nothing. What should I do to install Tiger?

Just curious, did you now your optical drive would not read DVDs when you formatted the hard drive?
Is there someone who trusts you enough to borrow their drive to get the process started?
The lack of an optical drive really creates a sticky problem here.
