Re: monitor not displaying the Operating System after bios update

At last, great to hear!

Hi

    As Niel pointed out, yes.  The disk probably will look like the MBP disk (4) in this screenshot;

  • Index style not displaying the chosen option after publishing

    Hi Folks,
I have been adding new albums to one of my web pages and had chosen the Black ringbinder Index style for the albums. After a recent publishing upgrade and visiting my site I noticed that all the albums had framework boxes with ? marks all around and did not display the chosen index style.
I went back to iWeb and chose a Brown sort of "Wedding Album" style and re-published. Everything was OK so once again back to iWeb and set them all to the Black ringbinder Index style and re-publushed.
Same problem with ? marks all around each album.
    Any ideas for fixing?
    Thanks

    Hi there
The simplest way to specify a relative path is to avoid any browsing you may do to find whatever file you are linking to and quite simply type the file name into the dialog. Once you have done this, you simply ensure that the file is present alongside the Captivate movie so that during playback it can find the file.
I think where most folks make a mistake is when they use the dialog to browse to and choose the file they are linking to. When you do that, Captivate dutifully inserts the path leading to the file on your own hard drive. This means that the file would need to be stored the the exact location using the same drive letter on the end user's PC for things to work in the end.
    Cheers... Rick

  • Is Ipad1 still secure considering the company has not kept the operating systems up to date for this model?

Is Ipad one still secure considering Apple has not provided it with the proper operating systems?

With Firmware updates, Apple will usually offer instructions to complete the update, since they require an additional step to complete. It sounds like you haven't finished the Firmware update completely.
Since it's your computer and investment, I wouldn't risk it and would visit your local Apple Store and let them solve the problem. In the meantime, read this link from Apple:

  • Troubles in dual boot system after BIOS update

    Hello:
    PC: Thinkpad T500
    1. I had for one year Linux Fedora 10 and Vista Ultimate working in dual boot with Grub, no problems at all.
Three days ago Lenovo support recommended I update my BIOS from 2.07 to 3.12, as I had some intermitent Sleep problems in Vista. Then my problems started.
    2. First, after updating the BIOS from Vista (dowloaded the exe, double clicked it, gone through the whole sequence with no errors), upon the first restart, the screen was black and I couldn't get in BIOS with F1 and the same happened during other power-off/power on sequences.
    3. Now, I've discovered that the best I can do is wait for 10 min after restart in order to get a prompt from ThinkVantage, then Grub boots only the Linux system which works OK.
    4. I can't get the dual boot message from Grub, and I can't get any Windows DVD to be taken at boot (I've got full backups from both Control Panel and from ThinkAdvantage backup facility) in order to ru Windows repair.
    5. I can go during the ThinkAdvantage to BIOS, the new version seems there (not sure if completely operational), but whey can't I see it with F1?
Is the presence of ThinkAdvantage something special in dual-boot systems or wrt to the BIOS install? Should I do something special about it? I just don't know.
    Any ideas?

Strange.  I don't have a clue, but I have seen posts here that recoverd from strangeness after a BIOS update by unplugging from the AC mains, removing the battery, and then pressing the power button several times.  The last time, hold the button for 10 seconds or so.
That is really a total WAG, but maybe worth a try.
Out of curiousity, what do you see when grub finally loads.  I take it that it isn't your original boot menu.  Do you have grub installed in the MBR, the boot sector of the Linux partition, or both?  Is the Linux partition (or Linux boot partition if you have boot + root) the 1st one on the drive, or _after_ the vista partition.
[edit] You didn't ask, but IMNSHO multibooting a modern laptop isn't really the easiest way to run multiple OSs.  I run Linux, Solaris, and OS X in VMs under Win 7 on my T400.  They run well, and that approach avoids issues like you are having.  The Lenovo ThinkVantage boot-time stuff and R&R are rather fragile.  Changes in partitioning and MBR configuration can break them.   BIOS and other updates, and Windows repairs can break the multi-boot setup.
There are several ways to set up VMs, but VMWare Player is what I use.  The latest version is free and quite usable.

You won't lose any data unless you erase your hard drive.
Put your install DVD into the optical drive and reboot. As soon as you hear the boot chime, hold down the "c"key on your keyboard (or the Option key until the Install Disk shows up). That will force your MacBook to boot from the install DVD in the optical drive.
When it does start up, you'll see a panel asking you to choose your language. Choose your language and press the Return key on your keyboard once. It will then present you with an Installation window. Completely ignore this window and click on Utilities in the top menu and scroll down to Disk Utility and click it.When it comes up is your Hard Drive in the list on the left?
If it is then click on the Mac OS partition of your hard drive in the left hand list. Then select the First Aid Tab and run Repair Disk. The Repair Disk button won't be available until you've selected the Mac OS partition on your hard drive. If that repairs any problems run it again until the green OK appears and then run Repair Permissions.

  • I have just bought an iphone 3G not 3Gs, the operating system is 4.2.1. I know I cannot update this but why can't I buy music ringtones.

I have just purchased an iphone 3 (not 3Gs) and am happy with it but why can't I purchase a music ringtone or any ringtone other than the pre installed list?

iOS 4.2.1 is the most recent, and probably last, version that an iPhone 3G can run. If you need apps that require IOS 4.3 or later, you're stuck. You should have purchased an iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4 or iPhone 4S, all of which can run iOS 5.
    Regards.

  • PC taking a LONG time to load everything before the win logo, after BIOS update.

Every single time I turn on my PC, it takes a REALLY long time to start the first DOS-like screen and then it takes another while before the windows logo shows up. About 4-5 mins before the win logo. It used to be fast and sweet before updating my MSI MB BIOS...
It all started when I updated the BIOS the first time (I just thought it was something good to do). The start up took a long time like 25% of the times and it got worse every month. I tried changing the config in the BIOS but nothing helped, so recently I decided to update the BIOS again with a flash drive step by step as indicated in the MSI website with their software, only to find out that the problem got worse and that it happened 100% of the times I turn my PC on.
When the start-up is slow, it gets stuck in that black pre-DOS like screen, showing a "B4" in the bottom right corner. After that the usual first screen with some info shows up for about 3 seconds, then it all goes black again and shows some other pair of codes on the same corner (B2, A4,....)
Today I tried manuallly reseting the MB to see if it helped (I removed the battey for a while, then used the reset CMOS button to make sure). It did not help at all. I have tried changing the hard drives from IDE to AHCI but windows 8 won't start: after showing its logo for a while, it shows a blue screen of death with the sad smily :( and tries to reset (I have to manually reset it afterwards). I have one 2TB WD green hard drive and one SSD in which I have windows 8 installed.
I found some text today on the MB MSI website on the BIOS versions page... which I didn't see at the time, and it shows up only in my smartphone: "We recommend to only update to the M8 class module if you have an Ivy bridge processor. There is no way to go back to the previous M module after the update" (this is from memory by the way)
Something to add, I used the Crystal Disk Info software to check my drives and it showed the were in good condition. Then used CrystalDiskMark 3.0.3 to test them and got low numbers in my opinion; for the WD green
       Sequential Read : 76 MB/s, Random Read 512KB : 26 MB/s, Random Write 512KB : 41 MB/s.
    And for the SSD
       Sequential Read : 167 MB/s, Random Read 512KB : 161 MB/s, Random Write 512KB : 111 MB/s
    My relevant PC parts are:
    Intel i5 2500k (sandy bridge)
    MSI Z68A GD65 (B3)
SSD Mushkin Chronos 120GB SATA 6GB-s (windows 8.1 installed here) (MKNSSDCR120GB)
    2TB Western Digital HD (WD20EARS)
    2x Ati 6950 crossfire
I also already tried turning it ON with everything disconnected, changing the video card slots, using only one... etc.
Any ideas on how to fix this or what's causing it? I really need some help here...  If you need more info, I will be checking this constantly and will deliver your requests.

I already fixed the IDE to AHCI problem, which was the minor one. Solution for this: Use regedit to change HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\storahci\"Error Control" to 0 and delete StartOverride. Then you should be able to go into BIOS and change to AHCI mode. You'll need to do this again if you ever start up in IDE mode.
But I still need to fix the main one which is the slow startup... please help!
B4 is a USB problem! what USB devices do you have plugged in? (if its a keyboard and/or Mouse please say what they are like make and model!)

  • App Store shows update available but will not display the update or tell me that there are no updates...

There is a badge with the number 1 on my "App Store" icon, but when I go to see what needs to be updated, the App Store does not display the app that has an update nor does it say that there are no updates available.  Basically the place that tells me these things, is completely blank.  I have the word "Updates" at the top of the screen and I can see an icon on the bottom right corner area that has the cirlce with a down arrow and the word "Updates" with a badge with the number 1 in it.
The iPad 2 has 6.1.2 for the iOS.  I have already closed the app out completely by closing the app in the multitasking section and then restarting it.  This does not correct the issue.  I have also restarted the iPad 2, however this did not correct the issue either.
If anyone has seen this and knows it is a glitch in the software, and that Apple is aware of it, please let me know.  If anyone knows how to correct this, please let me know.  Thanks.

The update server is down; try this temporary workaround
    App Store>Purchased>Select "All"
Note: Look out for apps that have the word "Update"

How can I downgrade the bios again? Or - what have I to change in the bios-settings?

    Hi schuwe,
Im a little bit confused about your posting. How do you tell your BIOS not to restart?
Anyway, after BIOS update you should load the default settings in BIOS.
Did you choose the right BIOS especially for your model?

I bought a second hand Macbook Pro and colorful stud
Only after a few months I decided to reformat it
Bad movie started here I did not get it with a disc and I come to install the operating system
And he asks the name of Apple's user ID financed had been bought Lion OS Now
And who sold me does not answer then I found the phone number of his mother
She said he lived in USA and paid him more than the lion version of the MacBook and now I can not install Lion
    And I'm not from USA

Unless you go back to the original owner, yes you need to pay for it again.
You're entitled to the OS that shipped with the device from Apple, but if you don't have that media there's nothing you can really do.  If the system originally shipped with 10.7 or 10.8 then when you boot it to Internet Recovery, it will automatically offer you that OS version (as the serial # is registered with Apple).  If it shipped with an older OS, then you need to enter the Apple ID that purchased 10.7 or 10.8.  You didn't purchase it so that's not you.
The options you have are to buy Lion for $29 US (I don't know the price in Palestine), or Mountain Lion for $19 US (don't know the price in Palestine either), and install from scratch.
And it's a good idea to know you have restore media before you reformat your machine.
