Re: Of Netware6.0/ZEN3.2 and WinXP's Registry

Yer not gonna believe it..
Another 'life lesson'! Delete %SYSTEM DRIVE%\NALCache and let
NAL/NALEXPLD blow a new copy of all desired apps to your workstation!
At least that seems to do it for me. Now why didn't I think of that
before???
I'm gettin' old, folks...
Thanks!

It would appear that somehow a deleted ZEN Application is still
    misbehaving in my NDS tree.
The situation: I added a key via ZEN, then finding that there was a
better way to accomplish the task at hand I deleted the registry key.
Then I found that deleteing that key caused associated workstations to be
unable to log in, I deleted the application, thinking that would solve
the trouble -- I wasn't unsing the key, it was disabled why not delete
    the app?
Now I'm finding ever since that fateful moment my WinXP workstations are
still unable to log in to the Netware system unless I fire up regedit and
apply some fix. It doesn't seem to matter WHAT I change, just something
(just touch the registry). I can do this by starting workstation in
workstation-only mode and double-clicking on the .reg file, I can run
regedit /s somefile.reg. I canNOT accomplish this by taking the same
registry settings and blowing them out via ZEN.
This all acts like there is a 'hidden' App:Application object in my NDS
somewhere, tho I cannot see it. I'm the only tree in my wilderness, I'm
the only 'admin' in my NDS structure, so I don't believe it's a
    permissions thing.

  • Accessing USB HD Switching between OS X and WinXP

In a box with Fusion 3 using both 0S X and winxp, the USB HD(sea_disk) shows in the upper right under the Mac HD. If I want to connect it to the XP do I need to "Eject sea_disk" before using the connect to USB HD in windows?
Is there a way that I can access the USB HD with windows and mac when it is still on the Mac desktop? or vice-versa?

Our main issue with Safari is that it does not allow one to unblock pop-ups for individual websites. Some financial and gov sites require you to run pop-ups active. Firefox allows you but it goes nuts when it tries to download or access pdf files. The only way to shut it down is to force quit. And then there are 1000+ files in the download folder. Granted they are zero data but still a bit of a pain deleting them all.
One of us uses Office at work and the OSX doc and xls programs really do not like the files she has. They have a lot of problems with the formatting and embedded commands. So we know that at least with the VM loaded we can deal with that. We were led to believe that there wasn't any problems with using/editing those files between both OS's. Apple sales people said "We do it all the time"
The other program we have having problems with is Nikon ViewNX. I do a lot of photographic work and one of the reasons we went mac was that everyone said how good it was for digital photographic work. I haven't been able to do anything with it because it will not run the Nikon software. Afraid I never had these kind of issues with ms. Yes it ran slow but at least it worked. (ran slow due to lack of RAM)

  • Ge4600Ti "artifacts" in BIOS and WinXP

I have just setup a new system. I took my Ge4600 out of my old P4 system (no past problems working fine). Put it in my new system (875P Neo) and now my display is corrupted both in POST, BIOS and WinXP (redraw problems in XP, wrong letters in BIOS, artifacts in POST). The system runs fine with my old RIVA in it.
I then put the Ge4 back in my old sytem (no HD installed) and the POST screen shows the same problems. Im pretty sure I didnt damage it removing/installing. I did remove a lot of dust which had clogged the HSF.
Any suggestions? Should I continue to try other drivers? When installing the latest Detonator I get a Stop Error (Blue Screen). Is my card damaged?

    It doesn't look good
But from your explanation I see that the problem started when you moved the card and then the problem followed to another system. You have basically answereed your own question by following the technique I would have used by trying it in another rig. Yes I think the card was somehow damaged by either static discharge or a small surface mount device such as a transistor, resistor or capacitor may have fallen off during handling, hard to say.

  • PM7 and WinXP SP3

Following a disaster, I replaced the primary HDD on my home PC with a brand new one last wekend.
After re-installing WinXP, MSO2K3, CS2, the thousands of updates which took hours and a call to Adobe for new activiation code as I wasn't able to de-activate, there being an HDD failure, I can confidently assert that PM7 (followed by the updates to PM7.0.1a) installs perfectly. And yes, there is a minor error/typo somewhere in the PM7.0.1a update which calls it PM7.0.1.
And my positively ancient T1 fonts (Gill Sans, Times New RomanPS and Courier) from 1991 were all added by the windows Font manager as expected and without a hitch.
Export… AdobePDF… also worked perfectly first time with PM figuring it all out by itelf with Distiller 7.  (My default printer is an HP Laserjet 2300PS which probably helps.)
So for anyone who is having problems with PM7 and WinXP SP3, I can only conclude that years of accumulated windows junk is where to look.
As they say with windows, if a re-boot doesn't solve, re-install!

Not enough information, but my best guess is a: INstalling SP3 always
reenables the (new) Firewall. Potentially your GPO doesn't always take,
    and needs several reboots.
But to find out what's going on, the details of the clntrust status is
needed, and potentially a lan trace. If the clntrust tstus doesn't show
any requests (and that's my guess), then my guess becomes almost
    certain.

After that, when I restart the computer it boot up with blue screen(Sometimes, it let me boot up without any problem). I didn't install any third party software(OS only). It's weird. Even though, I have installed FAT file system and the result is the same.  I have tested windows 98. It's very stable and no problem at all. Here is my PC configuration

There is a possibility that you've bought a stolen iphone which has an iClould lock on it. The only way to remove an iCloud lock is to contact the previous owner of your phone and inform him of your problem. But you dont know who the previous owner is hence you cant unlock your phone. Do a fresh restore with itunes by connecting your iphone to your pc, opening up itunes and clicking restore. I'm not sure if that'll help, but it's worth a try. Hope I helped. Cheers

  • Difference between Windows NT domain registry and Active Directory registry

    What are the difference(s) ?

Frank, thanks for your response :)
I want WebSphere Application Server to take advantage of a directory service. There are multiple options available for a directory service.
In my configuration the requirement is to make WebSphere Application server to use Microsoft's Active Directory.
While I was going through (WebSphere) documentation, I see following note.
" With Windows NT domain registry support for Windows 2000 and 2003 domain
controllers, WebSphere Application Server only supports Global groups that are the Security type. It is recommended that you use the Active Directory registry support rather than a Windows NT domain registry if you use Windows 2000 and 2003 domain controllers
because the Active Directory supports all group scopes and types. The Active Directory also supports a nested group that is not support by Windows NT domain registry. The Active Directory is a centralized control registry."
You can find the above note in this link (somewhere after 7th line)
    http://www-01.ibm.com/support/knowledgecenter/SSAW57_7.0.0/com.ibm.websphere.nd.multiplatform.doc/info/ae/ae/csec_localos.html?cp=SSAW57_7.0.0%2F3-11-5-1-0-0
Does it mean that they are recommending to use Active Directory over Windows NT (which is an older approach) with windows server 2000 or windows server 2003 because Active directory is
    advanced ?
I was under the impression that, Active Directory was started with Microsoft Windows Server 2003 and Windows NT registry was used till Windows 2000 server.
    After going through above links,
Windows NT registry in an old method. However, it is compatible with Windows Server 2000 and Windows server 2003 but it is recommended to use Active directory with Windows Serve 2003 as it is more advanced. And the same is recommended in WebSphere documentation
(I am aware that support for Windows Server 2000 is over and only extended support is available for Windows Server 2003 however this is to clear doubt). Is my understanding correct ? And does windows server 2000 also support both i.e we can use either Windows
NT registry or Active directory and similarly, Either of them (Windows NT or Active Directory) could be used with Windows Server 2003 ?
And if I got it correct, Is Windows NT and Active Directory, both directory service offering from Microsoft? While NT being an old method and Active Directory being a new/advanced approach ?

  • Windows 8.1 Update (with WinPE 5.1) ADK + SCCM 2012 R2 and WinXP

    Hello,
I see new ADK version (8.1 Update) is released
    http://www.microsoft.com/en-US/download/confirmation.aspx?id=39982
It contains WinPE 5.1 and new USMT (which version?), does it support migration from WinXP to Win7?
    Previously I used USMT5 (instead of 6.3) and modified WinPE 5.0 with bootsect.exe from WinPE 4.0 (from ADK 8.0) on SCCM 2012 R2 CU3.
And can I use ADK 8.1 Update with SCCM 2012 R2?

He does answer your question about the USMT version.
The rest still applies in terms of XP support. See below.
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/mniehaus/archive/2014/01/09/migrating-from-windows-xp-to-windows-8-1-using-mdt-2013.aspx
Yes, ConfigMgr 2012 R2 is supported.
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/configmgrteam/archive/2014/04/03/understanding-the-adk-for-windows-8-1-update-and-configmgr-osd.aspx
    Daniel Ratliff | http://www.PotentEngineer.com
    in the article I found:
Windows PE version 5.1 is not needed for Configuration Manager and can actually be problematic if you try to use it. Windows PE 5.0 can continue to be used to deploy Windows 8.1 Update. There is a documented process to upgrade Windows PE to version 5.1,
but this should be considered incompatible with Configuration Manager at this time.
So for a new installation of SCCM 2012 R2 I can install ADK 8.1 update because in contains WinPE 5.0 and option to update to 5.1. And unclear about XP, it seems XP is not supported again.
Also fourth release was in September 2014, but article was posted in April 2014.

  • IMac Intel and WinXP - Sharing Files Problem

    Hi there,
I want to be able to retrieve my files from my Windows XP Pro SP2 computer to my iMac Intel. Both currently are connected via a NetGear Router and have an internet connection (satellite modem). I use the installed Apple Airport Express card.
Problem is that I can't get either computer to see the other; however, I can successfully ping each one from the other one. There is no data loss, no delays. They are connected via ethernet cable from the satellite modem to the router, then from the WinXP computer to a different port on the router. Neither ethernet cable goes into the iMac.
Therefore, as I know that the IP addresses seem to be correct, what else needs to be done here? I was speaking with an Apple rep on the phone who suggested taking one ethernet cable and remove it from the router and connect it direct to the iMac and run it to the XP. Problem is that now the XP computer has no internet connection. So, I have reversed it back in order that both computers can access the internet. (I caught them at their closing time apparently as the agent wasn't on the line when I went back on to report that I had changed the cable over...)
When I select Go and then Connect to Server Settings, after about 1 minute I finally get an error message from the AFP server connection stating: "Connection Failed. The server may not exist or it is not operational at this time. Check the server name or IP address and try again. OK."
I have disabled the firewall on the XP computer. I also removed the antispyware, the main firewall software and the antivirus software. (These are all from Freedom Software [now called ZeroKnowledge I believe].) I then reverted to the Windows Firewall and did some more tests. Nothing changed. The only difference here between this firewall being enabled and disabled is the speed with which the error message appears. If the Windows Firewall is DISabled then it takes about 2 seconds for this message to appear. If ENabled then about 1 min.
So. Any suggestions on how I can get each computer to recognise the other? I would appreciate any suggestions here. Perhaps I've missed installing something or completing a step? According to Apple I have all I need at least for the iMac. As to the XP stuff I believe it is all fine...
I'm new to all things Mac so details might be helpful for me.
    Thanks so much in advance.

So is the router negotiating the connection with PPPoE for your local network giving you one external IP address and then using DHCP to negotiate local connections for your two computers or are each of the two computers negotiating their own connection with PPPoE giving them each separate external IP addresses?

  • Problem: Sharing Folders with iMac and winXP

We have been running a small workgroup sharing so far two winxp machines over a wifi-modem-router-switch. The two pc share folders without problem.
I have now proudly made the switch over to using Apple iMac. Whilst the iMac experience is fantastic, getting to share the iMac with the rest of the winXP is turning into a nightmare.
I have spent 45 minutes with the tech support team of my ISP router supplier (ISP:Club-Internet - Router :AH4021/Tecom AH4222)
Every check & settings turned out to be fine, but they were unable to diagnose the problem.
I spent 3 sessions and over 1 hour (without counting time waiting over the phone) with the Apple support team, and whilst they were very friendly, they were unable to diagnose the problem.
I cannot ping the iMac from the xp machine, but I am told there is hope though, as i can ping ok my xp machine from iMac.
    All firewalls have been removed.
File n window sharing set on all machines.
DHCP manually setup assigning fix IP/DNS etc..
Same username on all machines, with unique machine name
Is there anybody who could help? Help!

Just hanged up from Apple tech support France, and this time, spoke to another friendly AND helpful support assistant named Simon.
Simon got me straight into the Finder>Go>Connect to Server
Type into your Server Address window : smb://and here your pc ip address you want to get to
    example: smb://192.168.1.2
Hit Enter key, and your pc should appear
    Thank you Simon!
Also, watch out for port 80 being hugged by apps like Skype...it might interfer
AND any port being specified into your NAT configuration in your router might confused the search.
    Voila!

  • SB 5.1 Live! and WinXP

I've upgraded my OS to WindowsXP sp2 from Win98SE. The Upgrade Report advised me to remove Disc Detector before upgrading; so to be on the safe side I uninstalled all the software. WinXP installed drivers which work fine, but I wanted Soundfont facilities so I reinstalled the software from the original CD. This completely broke WinXP, which wouldn't even do a system restore; and I had to reinstall WinXP.
I don't want to risk going through this again! Can anyone point me with confidence to the correct software download for WinXP sp2? I don't need all the gaming-type bells and whistles; just the ability to play back MIDI files with some better sounds. What would you do - or, even better, if you've been in this situation what did you do that worked. :-)
    Thanks!

    Hi,
There is a set of basic software and drivers for this card available at http://uk.europe.creative.com/support/downloads/download2.asp?Product_ID=3203&dlcentric=972&Produc t_Name=Li've%2+Platinum&OSName=Windows+XP. This is the Li've Dri've UniPack (Li'veDrvUni-Pack(ENG).exe)and should have everything you need to get you up and running.
If you require sound fonts there is a file called Vienna23.zip also available for this card, at http://uk.europe.creative.com/support/downloads/download2.asp?Product_ID=&dlcentric=423&filename=v ienna23.zip . That should sort everything out for you. I would advise against installing the CD, its Windows 95/98 software. If you need a CD for XP, one is available from the online store.
    Hope this helps,
    John

  • HT5639 Boot Camp 5 and WinXP - will they marry on my MacMini?

I am in the process of migrating from Windows to OSx. I have a late 2012 mini and Windows XP Pro. The Boot Camp compatibility table indicates a "-" for my mini/XP Pro compatibility. If I go ahead and install Boot Camp 5 (which the copatibility table says it is is compativle with post-XP versions of Windows), would I be able to install and run my WinXP on my mini? I just want to open my MS WinXP-created Word/Excel, pdf and mp4 files on my Mac and I do not mind that WinXP might not provide support for USB3, and some other periferal hardware.
Any constructive input will be appreciated.
    W TH.

Programs running in Windows 7 will open Word, Excel, PDF files created with ealier versions of Word, Excel, etc. Operating system, XP or newer Windows versions, has nothing to do with opening files. It is the version of the program that created the files that is of issue but newer programs can open older Excel, Word, PDF, etc. data files.
You can not install XP using Boot Camp Assistant in newer OSx operating systems.

  • Nalntsrv and winxp sp2

    Hi There
I have intermittent problem with nalntsrv service. Users receive error
message "Problem: Application Launcher NT Service was not found to run
the application as system user." So those applications run as insecure
users will not work. Under task manager, the service is there!
Sometime, reboot helps to make that service runs properly. Sometime,
support staff has to run "nalntsrv install start" to get it running.
Sometime, Novell client has to be reinstalled.
Our servers are running NW6 SP4 and ZfD 3.2 Sp1. Our PCs are running
    WinXP SP2 and Novell client 4.9 SP2.
    Any clue, please?
