Re: Window 8.1 and secureboot

Hi guys,
I just upgraded to 8.1 and I also have the watermark saying that Secure Boot is not configured properly. Is something that I have to worry about ?
I know that Fast Boot and Windows 8 features (what's this?) in the bios are deactivated, last time I saw it.
I have to update the Bios ?

Quote from: nightanole on 19-October-13, 03:38:54
I had to change secureboot to custom and reload my default key, then the water mark disappeared.
I changed it to custom but the watermark is still there.
Wha do you mean with "deafult key" ?

  • Window 8.1 and secureboot

Hi I build my first computer 2months ago using an MSI z87G343 and also a GTX760 twin Frozr 2g and everything went super easy with window8 set-up and got the quick boot option enabled and stuff.
I just did the update to from window 8 to 8.1 and got the secureboot isn't configured build 9600 on my desktop little message.
all my bios is on the latest update
went to advanced setting selected window 8 secure boot and when I restart I get an error concerning my video card not being recognized by window logo something and I got to go reset the option.
By looking around seems I got to update my VBIOS with GOP for my graphic card? this is all Chinese to me lol and have no clue what I need to do...
    any help would be appreciated!

    allright writing from my laptop
ran the cmd file and everything went fine, rebooted the pc went in BIOS, selected in advanced setup the window 8 stuff but not the secure boot I was gettin a PK thing saying I needed to set-it up or something... saved and exited and everything went fine and was able to boot up without an issue. Went back to the bios and did the assigned (sorry can't go back in bios atm on the main computer) Pk... enabled the secure boot... saved and exited... Unfortunatly I got a black screen on my computer and selecting different port for the graphic output seems not to work. Can't get back in the BIOS any trick?

  • MSI Z87-G45, GTX 570, Windows 8.1 and SecureBoot

    Hello
I have the spec in the subject. I was running Windows 8 was a GPT partitioned SSD and now that I have upgraded to 8.1 the "SecureBoot isnt configured correctly" watermark is there.
When I try to enable secure boot in the BIOS (upgraded to 1.5) it tells me that I need to disable "CSM" first.
I suspect that I cannot do that because I am forced into CSM mode because the GTX 570 is not compatible?
I can select custom mode and generate the factory keys and then boot, but the system fails to boot with a warning that the video card is not GOP compatible and then resets the BIOS to disable Windows 8 features.
So I am looking for some information to confirm that I cannot secureboot with my current video card. In addition if anyone knows how to disable the watermark (without disabling UAC) that would be great and is in fact all I want!
Its very annoying to have a working system before what should have been a pretty minor windows upgrade and now have it look ugly all the time!
Oh and I am also pretty sure that I can remove the watermark by reformatting the SSD to be an MBR disk, but again I dont want to do that because I boot UEFI mode only with MSI Fast Boot on to get a nearly instant BIOS. Less value in a fast SSD boot time if you need to wait 15 seconds for the BIOS to detect my USB devices!
    Thanks for any information.

    So it seems.
I want to use UEFI to boot the BIOS and not use secure boot at all, which the BIOS seems to support but Windows does not seem to like. UEFI should not be treated by Windows as implying a secure boot.
Very annoying. DLL resource hacking seeming likely!

  • Windows 7 desktop and windows 8 desktop connected to router

I have a windows 7 64 bit desktop and a 7510 e photosmart printer connected wireless, though the desktop is wired, I purchased a windows 8 desktop and connected it to my router and set up my email account and it did pick up my printer and could print but not scan or EFax, now I get a 1625 message and cannot print from it.
I tried to download the print and scan wizard from HP web site but my PC froze up.
Do i have to run the disc or set up a home group, not bothered about being able to E Fax or scan to email with it, just need it to print as it did before.
Also on my windows 7 I can log into HP connected and my printer shows up ok, when I press the icon on the printer for Eprint it shows my HP email address but when I press the Fax icon it says NOT CONNECTED TO ANY NETWORK. Cloud services set up a static IP address for me last year as each time we had a power outage I lost my connection to my printer. If anyone can help I would appreciate it.

  • Dual boot Windows 7 (64) and Arch Linux (64) problems

    Hello:
I am new to Arch Linux and just finished installing the 64bit on my laptop. It had a prebuilt Windows 7 (64) installed which I kept but split the hdd from 160Gb to 80Gb and 80Gb. I installed Arch there and set 4 partitions, all of them as Logical - a 64 MB ext2 /boot partition; a 512 MB swap partition; a 15 GB root partition; and the rest as my /home partition. My partitions look like this:
    Disk Drive: /dev/sda
    Size: 160041885696 bytes, 160.0 GB
Heads: 255 Sectors per Track: 63 Cylinders: 19457
Name Flags Part Type FS Type [Label] Size (MB)
    sda1 Primary Unknown (27) 12889.02
    sda2 Boot Primary NTFS 106.93
    sda3 Primary NTFS [] 73915.11*
    sda5 Logical Linux ext2 65.81*
    sda6 Logical Linux 509.97*
    sda7 Logical Linux ext2 15002.92*
    sda8 Logical Linux ext2 57549.55*
The install was succesful(this was running from the core install cd) and I installed GRUB to my /boot but when I restarted it loaded Windows 7. I have used Knoppix USB disc to boot and see my Arch Linux install files and edited the /boot/gur/menu.lst file.
In Windows I installed EasyBCD 1.7.2 and tried to get NeoGrub bootloader working as a dual boot. I tried getting rid of the boot flag for Windows with cfdisk and setting it to my (Logical) sda5. That did not work. So far the only way I have booted into my Arch Linux install has been by going to the Live CD, choosing "Boot from Existing Linux Install" and editing the command files there.
    root (hd0,4)
    kernel /vmlinuz26 root=/dev/sda3 ro
    initrd /kernel26.img
My goal is to get a dual boot working for Windows 7 and Arch Linux 64 and continue installing the Xorg and KDE to Arch. I just don't know what the problem is here. I don't mind reinstalling Arch if something went wrong, but I would like to keep my Windows running in order and add Arch on.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I ran the LiveCD and chose "Install to MBR hd0". I ended up with this:
    setup hd(0,1)
    Checking if "/boot/grub/stage1" exists.....yes
    Checking if "/boot/grub/iso9660_stage1_5" exists.....yes
Running "embed /boot/grub/iso9660_stage1_5 (hd0,1)".....failed(this is not fatal)
Running "embed /boot/grub/iso9660_stage1_5 (hd16)".....failed(this is not fatal)
    Running "install /boot/grub/stage1 d (hd0,1) /boot/grub/stage2 p (hd0,1) boot/grub/menu.lst".....failed
Error 31: File is not sector aligned
My entry for Windows into the menu.lst looks like this:
    # (0) Arch Linux x64
    title Arch Linux x64
    root (hd0,4)
    kernel /vmlinuz26 root=/dev/disk/by-uuid/3841273c-d91e-41d6-9dbf-716a15d03a01 ro

  • Dual boot WIndows 8.1 and Windows 7 (32 bits) from separated disks gives error 0XC0000359

    Hi all,
I have two disks, each with a (OEM) installed OS on it, a Windows 8.1 (64 bits) and Windows 7.0 (32 bits). The later came from mine old computer that unfortunately died to soon. So I have two disks and two OS in an brand new machine (with UEFI BIOS etc.).
Installing a dual boot option was a pace of cake. However booting into Windows 7.0 gives following error:
"Windows failed to start. A recent hardware of software change might be the cause.
      File:\Windows\system32\winload.exe.
      Status: 0XC0000359
Info: the application or operating system could't be loaded because a required file is missing or contains errors".
There is lot discussions about installing two OS but that is not mine problem: both are already installed.
Also there is much rumour about the UEFI BIOS and support for older systems. In mine medion computer the Security Boot option is disabled (by the OEM), so booting from a old BIOS should be possible, must isn't.
Someone advised me to run the recovery disk (of Windows 7.0) and run Bootmgr. However the system refuses to boot from CD/DVD with the recovery disk of Windows 7.0 inserted, booting from the recovery disk of Windows 8.1. goes fine.
Removing the disk with Windows 8.1 installed on it  and directly booting in Windows 7.0 fails too with the message: "Reboot and Select proper boot device or: Insert boot media in selected boot device and press key". Also in this case the system
refuses to boot from the Windows 7.0 recovery disk.
    Could you please help me?

    Hi,
To rebuilt boot loader, I suggest we can try following command when you enter Windows 8.1.
Run cmd as administrator and type following command:
BCDboot [Partition Letter with windows 7 installed]:\windows
Note: if you installed Windows 7 on Partition F, the command can be write as: BCDboot F:\windows.
Then, restart and boot into Windows 7.
    What’s going on?

  • Trouble with Windows 8.1 and hp officejet 8620

Hi, we've installed a brand new hp Officejet Pro 8620.
We've installed the full software package on a Windows 8.1 machine.
It all seemed to be fine, but suddenly our machine is not capable of print on certain circumstances:
    - It can't print from:
    a) Notepad: "incorrect parameter" error message
    b) Office: Word, Excel, etc...    no error, but it simply does not print
    c) Adobe Acrobat: no error, but it simply does not print
    d) Test print from printer configuration: error
    but it CAN print from:
    a) hp printer assistant, hp print scan and doctor (hp software)
    b) hp AiO printer remote (it's a Metro app), only pdfs
    c) Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, etc...
We've tried to reinstall the whole package with no success. It seems that's something's wrong with the driver and desktop applications, any ideas? Anyone with similar problem?
    Best,

    This question was solved.

Finally we've used the proposed solution on:
    http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Printer-Networking-and-Wireless/Is-Windows-8-1-and-HP-8620-compatible/t...
The trick is drivers for 8600 must be downloaded and installed before the change. 8600 drivers included with 8.1 don't work.
We'll wait for new 8620 drivers that could fix this problem. Meanwhile, we can print with 8600 drivers, and scan with 8620 drivers.
    Best,

  • Windows Phone sync and transfer options

This post explains the options available for synchronizing and transferring contacts, calendar and tasks from your Windows PC to a Nokia Lumia with Windows Phone.
How Contacts, Calendar and Tasks are synchronized between a Windows PC and a Lumia family phone depends on which software is used on the PC
If a S40, S60 or Symbian Nokia phone was used before contacts, calendar and tasks can be synchronized between this phone and your PC using Nokia Suite with the following:
    Microsoft Windows 7 contacts
Microsoft Windows Vista calendar and contacts
    Microsoft Outlook 2002, 2003, 2007, 2010
    Microsoft Outlook Express
    Mozilla Thunderbird
Nokia Suite (v3.6.x and later) allows for an easy transfer of contacts, calendar and photos to your Nokia Lumia Windows Phone via SkyDrive.
    Here's how this feature works;
Connect your Nokia S40, S60 or Nokia Belle phone to your PC using the USB cable.
After Nokia Suite is started and your phone shows as connected select Tools>Upload to SkyDrive and follow the on screen instructions. If you do not have one yet you will have to create a Microsoft account which has a SkyDrive attached to it. You can create such account here.
You will now have to reset your Nokia Lumia Windows Phone. Doing so will erase all content from the phone and return it to it's 'out of the box' state. Make sure you have synced any media files to your PC (Zune for WP7.x devices / copy them through explorer on WP8.x devices) or Mac(Connector). You can sync these back after the reset. When finished reset your Nokia Lumia Windows Phone using Settings>about>reset your phone.
Go through the Device First Use sequence and when asked enter your Microsoft Account used to save the content from Nokia Suite. When the setup has finished your will find your contacts, calendar and photos have all transferred to your Lumia. These will also be available through your Microsoft account through the web interface. The list of installed (paid) apps is also restored and the phone will start downloading these once the restore is complete. You can switch to WiFi for this if you have access.
It is important to note this transfer will only work to the Nokia Lumia at the Device First Use sequence (after a reset). If you have your Lumia setup it will not look for or sync the information copied to SkyDrive through Nokia Suite.
SMS message can not be transferred directly, but you can export all messages in Nokia Suite (Messaging>File/Export all text messages) and open the resulting Comma Separated File (.csv) in Excel or OpenOffice Calc to create an Excel sheet (.xls file) this can then be copied to your SkyDrive and opened from the Office app. You could also use a tool to create separate files from the exported .CSV file and copy all of these to SkyDrive.
If a Microsoft Exchange server is used an Outlook account is created on the Lumia. This is done through 'Settings > email + accounts >add an account > Outlook'. The following settings are required. Usually these can be obtained from the system administrator for the Exchange server:
    Mail address
User name (usually the same as the login name for the business PC)
Password (usually the same as the password for the business PC)
    The Microsoft Exchange server Domain
The address for the Microsoft Exchange server
If Microsoft Outlook is used for private mail account(s) the Outlook Hotmail Connector needs to be installed to synchronize with the primary Microsoft Account and with the Lumia.
The mail account needs to be set up as a separate mail account through:
'Settings > email + accounts >add an account > other account'
More information on setting up a mail account can be found here.
A useful tool for setting up the Outlook Hotmail Connector can be found here.
Additional Microsoft support pages for contacts and calendar.
If Windows Mail, a part of Windows Essentials, is used contacts, calendar and tasks are synchronized directly with the Lumia as long as you log in to Windows Mail using the same primary Microsoft Account as the one which is used on the Lumia. Contacts and/or calendar can be imported in to Windows Mail as follows:
Microsoft Windows 7 contacts, Microsoft Windows Vista contacts (and calendar)
    Open Windows live mail
    Go to contacts
    Click on import
    Import from current Windows user
    Mozilla Thunderbird
Use the Hotmail extension for Thunderbird
Export contacts and import into Windows Mail
    I hope this is helpful

  • Jabber for Windows 9.1 and WebEx Voicemail Tab

    Guys
we are using both Jabber for Windows (9.1) and WebEx connect clients. both connect to WebEx cloud services. when we use WebEx connect we have all features including voicemail but when we use Jabber for Windows there isnt any voicemail option at all present.
both are doing phone integration and everything else is working fine.
Now when we do the same for our andriod tablets we have the option for voicemail.
i  understand that there are several feature differences but based on the searches ive been doing, voicemail should be present and i havent actually seen anyone having this problem. Note, this is using WebEx not CUPS.
i know im probably missing something completely here.
    thanks again

Do these users all have a conferencing profile assigned to them in CUCM (9.0) or CUPS (8.x)?
