Read memory content directly

In C language, there are some commands to read the content of the memory given the
memory address. Can Java language read the content of the memory directly?

No.

  • SSIS / SQL Memory Contention

    Hi all,
I'm running SSIS and SQL server on a single PC.
I have an ETL process consisting of several SSIS packages to load data from a source OLTP to a data warehouse.
OLTP DB resides on SQL 2012 instance.
    Datawarehouse resides on SQL 2008R2.
My SSIS packages 'hangs' and reports it is failing to swap out memory buffers - they're all held by the SQL 2012 (source db) instance.
On my PC I've configured max memory on each SQL instance:
    PC Memory = 16GB
    SQL 2012 Max Memory = 6GB
    SQL 2008r2 Max Memory = 4GB
My ETL package now runs smoothly.
My question is - what is best practice for managing this memory contention in a production environment. I do not want to limit the available memory to my OLTP db.
My ETL is ran once per day  - overnight.  Perhaps I could reconfigure max memory before and after each ETL processs? But I don't like this as it would require a server restart & cold cache for my OLTP apps.
    Thanks for reading. Appreciate suggestions.
    Clay

OK, It is more clear now :-)
This is  a developing server, and I assume that you have to hold several instances in order to re-create an environment that is like the production's environment  (I hope this is the reason, otherwise you need a very good reason for holding several
instances on one machine, which has resources problem, since each instance need lot of resources only to keep it running and most time it is better to have one instance with all the databases, than several instaces on the same machine). I actually have the
same problem on my developing environment by the way (I have about 8 instances of different database servers). Everything hat i write from now is only recommend for this situation for developing environment!
The following points should be taken into account and act according:
This is a small list that can take 2 books if we have time... this is just some point to think about.
    * Remember that SQL Server is trying to use as much memory as you let him in order to execute more efficience, It dose not take into direct consideration of other instances or application.
    * In order to understand what need to be done you need to monitor what specificly use all the memory.
        ** look at sys.dm_os_memory_clerks
        ** look for DBCC MEMORYSTATUS
** look at this link: http://www.mssqltips.com/sqlservertip/2304/how-to-identify-microsoft-sql-server-memory-bottlenecks/
** It is good time for Google https://www.google.co.il/search?q=SQL+Server+monitoring+memory
    * Once you found the cause and source for the memory use, you can focus on solving and start reduce memory usage before you start the ETL procces (and mabe during as well).
        **  look for DBCC FREEPROCCACHE
        ** look for  DBCC DROPCLEANBUFFERS
** We can build a better query sometimes
** we can pass some of the operation to the disk instead of the RAM
** Setting the Memory Options (as you did control max server memory,
check this link for more info)
** look for SET AUTO_CLOSE ON (This is usually not recommended but in your case using several instances this can help a lot sometimes)
    * The ETL proccess do not use only SQL Server but the application that execute it as well. The SQL Server will see the queries. While SQL Server is great in menaging multiple users and multiple paralel actions (or example using locks), some ETL are not so
good. You need to make sure if the SQL Server return an error or the failed come from the ETL proccess it self. Please post the full error message for mor specific information.
    * Remember that some actions in SQL Server use memory out of the Buffer pool memory and some action are not part of the max server memory (for example some CLR used).
as I mentioned i can continue this documents for days :-)
I hope this is helpfull for you as it is :-), and if you have more information (like error messages from log files) we might focuse on other option.

  • ITunes can't read iPod contents after Archive & Install

    Hi,
I recently had to replace the hard drive in my Mac Mini, and now that it is back up and running again iTunes will no longer sync with my iPod. When I start iTunes, I get the following error message:
iTunes cannot read the contents of the iPod "Timothy
Macinta's iPod". Go to the Summary tab in iPod
preferences and click Restore to restore this iPod to
    factory settings.
I would prefer to avoid restoring the iPod so that I can retain the play counts, ratings, etc. which I have changed on my iPod over the course of the last week when my computer was under the knife. It won't be a disaster if I can't do this and end up needing to restore the iPod, but I thought I would ask in case anybody had any tips.
For what it's worth, /Applications/iTunes.app is identical to what it was before the Archive & Install. So is ~/Music/iTunes/ . Are there other files or directories where iTunes keeps track of what iPods it knows about and which I could try restoring from my backup?
    Thanks,
    - Tim

I figured out how to fix the problem and I figured I would post a follow up in case anybody runs into the same problem. Since I originally posted, I discovered that iTunes had additional problems. Specifically, when I tried to play songs which had been downloaded from the iTunes Store, it asked me for my iTunes account and password and entering them produced an error that was something like: "A required iTunes component is not installed. (-42401)" I downloaded the latest iTunes directly from Apple:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
and then reinstalled it. Now I can play songs from the Store again and my iPod happily syncs. I don't know why it wasn't working before given that I had updated everything on the system, including iTunes, to the latest version with Software Update.

  • ITune cannot read the contents of the iPhone.

    Ok, this is quite annoying,
All I want is to get a few music files from my PC to my iPhone, I downloaded iTune, installed it, and now I am getting this message:
iTune cannot read the contents of the iphone "<phone name>". Goto to the summary tab in iphone preferences and click restore to restore this iphone to factory settings.
Funny, cause my iPhone is listed there on the devices, but it doesn't have any tabs available for me to sync.
    what am I missing ?

Hi Paul, I just starting getting this same message last night. Can you please tell me how you reformatted the memory card because I am ready to pull my hair out! Any help would be appreciated!!

  • "Cannot read the contents"

I plugged my 80 GB iPod into my friend's computer to charge it, but I didn't realize he had iTunes version 4-point-something. When I unplugged it it couldn't find any music or videos that I had on before. Plugging it into my computer I got the error "iTunes cannot read the contents of your iPod" and it suggested that I restore default settings and erase all my data. The strange thing is, when I plug it into my friend's computer with the older iTunes, it can find and play all of my music. The files are all still on there, and they can't be corrupt because they're still working. Now I'm just wondering what I should do. Is there some way I can create a backup of all my files? Not all of them are on my computer, and most of my renaming and album art adding I did directly on my iPod, not on my computer. I'm okay with restoring my ipod, but I don't wand to lose all those files.
If I just go into the ipod hard drive directly and copy all the files over, and then restore the settings and copy it back, will I have any problems?

    simmilar problem
I have music from other peoples computers in my hard drive, ive tried to thread through and delete but some still remains. my i pod had about 200 songs loaded onto it but the other like 1000 wont. the selection seems to be random. with artist c-p. ive tried restoring, with no effect.

  • I wish you could play iTunes U content directly on Apple TV

First of all, I think the Apple TV is great and a steal at $99.  But, I really, really wish there was a convenient way to play iTunes U content directly on aTV.  From what I can figure out, I have to download the content to my Mac, make my Mac's iTunes content on AppleTV, then access it that way.  Why can't I log in to my iCloud account on aTV and play whatever iTunes U video I want as a streaming video?  I don't want to have my Mac be unavailable when I'm watching a course I'm using my Mac for the instruction and watching a video on a laptop isn't my idea of something that is desirable.  I'd rather watch the video on my TV and follow along with the examples on my Mac.

    Whinston,
I live in Azerbaijan. Recently I bought apple tv in New York. When I come back to my country tried to rent movies from my country but couldn't find my country name on apple tv menu, so there is a problem I don't know how to fix it. is there have another way to take a rent movies?

  • Memory content lost when the battery runs down

My computer sometimes saves memory content when the battery runs down, as it is supposed to, so that when it restarts it is restored to the state it was in,  but at other times it does not.
Is there a way to find out why this is and fix it?

    Thanks for the reply.
Doesn't Apple recommend that you do exercise the battery by using its full capacity? They even recommend running it down from full until the computer saves the contents of memory to the special file, then leaving it 5 hours before charging fully again.
I have never heard of the 20% threshold before.
The odd behaviour in my case is that the computer sometimes does what is should: saves the memory then shuts down and when started restores that data, but at others does not save the data first, and starts up normally when I plug in the power and switch on.

  • I would like to download mp3 content directly from a specific website to my iphone or ipad

I am trying to download mp3 content directly from a website, jw.org, to my ipad and iphone.  I used to be able to this with my android phone, i had to download a "filemanager" app to unzip if I selected complete "albums" but it would then automatically make them available in my music app.  There has got to be a way to this on the iphone.

I think it recognises *some* non-Apple Bluetooth devices, but the number of devices, and the functionality supported, is very limited, and extremely poor and inflexible when compared to other manufacturers' devices.

  • Syncing notes and phone memory contents

    Hi,
I have a Nokia X3.  A few questions regarding synchronization:
    1. When connecting it in either "PC suite" or "Data Transfer" mode, only the memory card contents are visible.  Can I access the phone memory contents from the PC?
    2. Can I access the notes on the phone without having (the non-free) Microsoft Outlook installed?  I just need access to the text of the notes, as I tend to take notes while listening to my language lessons using the phone's mp3 player.
    3. How can I transfer recorded audio clips (voice recorder) to the computer?  (I assume these are in the phone memory which doesn't seem to be accessible)

Hi.....I was surprised to find my new X3-02 phone was telling me to delete items after only a week of very light use ( 4 apps and about thirty photos ).  I have now added a memory card only to find that there seems to be no obvious method to direct my content to the card.  I  would appreciate any assistance as this problem has completely diffused any delight over the new touch and type format.
    Thanks.....Feefifofum

  • Reading the contents of RTF file

    Hi,
I would like to read the contents of an RTF file which contains static text and place holders. The place holders have to be mapped to a database column(s) and once it is done I have to rewrite the output again to an RTF file. Is there any Java API directly available for this?

Hey! Did you ever find a decent solution to this. I'm trying to do something similar.
Read in an RTF file with some of the document already there, and embeded tags.
These tags will be replaced with more RTF (which I would like to generate).
    Any pointers appreciated
    Regards
    Scott

  • HT1386 Can I sync my iTunes content directly on to a non-Mac device (ie. Sony digi player)?

Can I sync my iTunes content directly on to a non-Mac device (ie. Sony digi player)?

I went to Apple Care with this question after a month went by with no posts here.  The answer is yes, you don't have to go through the Cloud to get music on your devices.  In fact Music Match is not available to libraries with more than 25000 titles.  For those of you experiencing what I mentioned above the solution is to backup your contacts, mail, photos etc. that are on your phone, (the tech at Apple directed me to do this to the Cloud), then "restore" the iPhone to its factory settings and import the backup.  The restore button is in the opening window when the iPhone is connected in the iTunes program.

    Hello ardninam,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
If the content on your iPhone cannot be read by iTunes, then you will need to follow the directions in the popup and restore your iPhone to the factory settings.  You can then try and restore from a previous backup.
Use iTunes to restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod to factory settings - Apple Support
Restore your device from an iCloud or iTunes backup - Apple Support

    My dear brothers,
I am a newbie of XML, I have a exercise which is creating a Tree View from XML file. But the trouble is I do not know how to read the content in one node of XML file. I decide to use the algorithm as following:
    1. Create a GUI form which gives the ability for user to choose a XML file (ok)
    2. Load XML and return the file (ok)
    3. Read the file from node to node to create the node in Tree View (?!)
Please help me, and if you are enough kind, please give me an small example to easy understand. Thanks in advance.

  • How to read the contents of XML file from my java code

    All,
I created an rtf report for one of my EBS reports. Now I want to email this report to several people. Using Tim's blog I implemented the email part. I am sending emails to myself based on the USERID logic.
However I want to email to different people other then me. My email addresses are in the XML file.
From the java program which sends the email, how can I read the fields from XML file. If any one has done this, Please point me to the right examples.
Please let me know if there are any exmaples/BLOG's which explain how to do this(basically read the contents of XML file in the Java program).
    Thank You,
    Padma

    Ike,
Do you have a sample. I am searched so much in this forum for samples. I looked on SAX Parser. I did not find any samples.
    Please help me.
    Thank you for your posting.
    Padma.

  • No music in iTunes library and it wont read the content of my iPod? Help please!

So I recently updated to iTunes 10.7 and when I did, all of the content in the iTunes library was gone! i have tried many different things to get it to work, like restoring to a previous iTunes library, but it appears that all the previous iTunes libraries were also deleted when I updated! If there is no other way to get the music back than finding the original files and putting them into iTunes, I guess that will be ok.
The second problem I am having is that when ever I try to sync my iPod it takes a very long time to load, and then it says that iTunes can't read the content of my iPod and that I should restore to the factory settings, but because there is no music or apps in my iTunes library I dont want to do that, because then I will have no way of getting all of my content back on. And I can't restore to a previous backup because it wont read it as my iPod, it just comes up as an unkown iPod. This is very frustrating and I have tried everything I can think of. Please help!

    Try:
    - Reset the iPod. Nothing will be lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Try another cable and another USB port
    - Reboot the computer.
    - See if you can find the media by:
    - See if a third-party progtam like one of those discussed here will allow you to get the music off the iPod
    newer copy
    - I think you may end up restoring the iPod.
