Reader 7 still installed

After reading the threads on the link problems with reader 9.3.4, I am not certain that this is an issue now. However, I would still like to have an answer.
I installed 9.3.4 a short time ago. I thought I was using it all this time, but I was apparently still using reader 7. This is because I normally double-click a pdf and it launches reader. Today I selected reader 9 from the programs menu under the start button, and the first thing it did was configure reader 9. Further inspection showed that reader 7 was still installed.
My questions are:
Is is necessary to keep reader 7 installed if I am using reader 9?
Is there anything I should be aware of, concerning removing reader 7, in the way of "don't let this dll get deleted", or anything like that?
I have not tried to uninstall reader 7 yet, because I want to know the answers to these questions before I proceed. I don't need the system getting a conflict about which version to run, and I'm not certain about any of this.
Thanks.

I am downloading Reader 9 now. When I installed Reader 9 and noticed the Reader 7 folder still in existence, I found the folder for adobe.com. When I ran Add or Remove programs, adobe.com was nowhere to be found, but there was something called Adobe.Air. I didn't know what that was, and there was no folder by that name. When Reader 7 was not found in the list, and only 9.3.4 was, I decided to remove that one and start over.
When that was done, I went back to the Adobe folder, and Adobe.com folder was still there, along with Reader 7.0 and Reader 9.0. After your last post, I decided to go all the way and just start from the beginning. I deleted the Reader folders before running the Installer Cleaner. When I ran that, I noticed it showed adobe.com, but not adobe.air. I quit, relaunched A/R-P. adobe.air was there, adobe.com was not. Since you had said I didn't need adobe.com anyway, I decided to make sure. I uninstalled adobe.air, quit and ran the cleaner. adobe.com was still there. I deleted it, quit and looked in the adobe folder. Adobe.com was still there. I deleted it.
When I went to download reader 9.3.4, I was required to reinstall the adobe download manager. It appears adobe.air and adobe dlm are related somehow. The one installed now seems to have a different version number from the one I had, but I did not record that number for comparison, so I can't be certain. The download is taking awhile. When I started writing this post I was 37% into the download. It is now 47%. I hope this fixes things. The only things adobe that I did not uninstall are the flash plugins, and the shockwave plugins and player.
Thanks for your help. When the download completes, and I reinstall Reader, I'll post whether or not it is fixed. However, I consider this question answered, since anything else would likely have to be system related, and not an adobe problem.

And what does any of that have to do with Adobe software? You better check your hardware setup and install the proper driver for whatever card reader you use...

  • How do I re-download Acrobat pro XI when Creative Cloud app thinks it's still installed?

I've been having no end of grief with Creative Cloud on my late 2009 2.8 GHz Intel Core i7 iMac, running OS X 10.9.2. It slows my finder redraw down so that sometimes it takes 5 minutes to display the contents of a folder in the finder.
So a couple of months ago I removed the Creative Cloud app from my machine, and things started running smoothly again except I was unable to update the rest of my CC apps.
Needing to update the Camera Raw plugin for Photoshop CC, I reluctantly reinstalled the Creative Cloud app, which refused to recognise that I had a bunch of Adobe apps installed (Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, Acrobat, Bridge) ... all except Lightroom, which it recognised. So I uninstalled all my apps and re-downloaded them through Creative Cloud so CC would 'see' that I had the apps. Not so easy with Acrobat XI: I had problems opening it so I went through the 'Uninstal Acrobat XI' app in the Acrobat folder, and now Creative Cloud thinks it's still installed and therefore I can't download a fresh copy.
Should I go through the rigmarole of uninstalling Creative Cloud again and run the risk of it losing track of all my other apps once again, or is there another way to work around this? Every time I try to download from the Adobe site it launches Creative Cloud...
Hoping someone can shed some light on this for me please.

With the help of Adobe support, I signed out of Creative Cloud and signed back in. Although I'd done this yesterday with no result, it worked this time and I'm currently reinstalling Acrobat.

  • Can't get adobe reader to install on my new laptop with windows 8

I can't get adobe reader to install onto my new laptop with windows 8. Basically what happens is that I start the download from the adobe screen by clicking the yellow download button, then I click run (I've also tried save and run), then I allow the program to make changes to my hard drive, and then finally a blank grey box appears in the in the middle of the screen, titled "adobe reader installer". After this box appears nothing else happens. I've let it sit for at least 30 minutes and still nothing. I've also disabled my pop up blocker, and set the security settings to default as suggested in other posts. Unfortunately this is the only pdf program that works for the site we have to use to write contracts, so I need to get this figured out asap. Thanks in advance for any help and advice.

    Try installing from http://get.adobe.com/reader/enterprise

  • When looking for WeatherFox, I discovered my entire lower bar had disappeared. I cannot figure out how to restore it. The add-ons are still installed.

I just noticed this morning that the lower tool bar, including weatherfox, Hebrew Calendar, and several other add-ons, has completely disappeared. Perhaps it's a matter of having inadvertently clicked on something one day when not paying attention. When I checked under Firefox preferences a little while ago, I went to <manage add-ons> and saw all installed add-ons were still installed. I cannot find a way to restore the lower tool bar displaying them.
After doing a back-up, I opened Time Machine to see whether an earlier Firefox homepage included the lower bar. I don't know whether I did not go back far enough or whether Firefox is somehow opening to a new, unintended default without that lower bar, no matter how far back I go.
Meanwhile, in the process of writing this, I returned to Firefox Preferences and now the general preferences dialogue box is completely screwed up, as though the size of the contents of that dialogue box had grown, in both dimensions, so it no longer fits within the box and parts of it cannot be accessed. It is truncated, in other words, both at the right side and along the bottom. I can no longer even access the add-ons section. The last thing visible at the bottom of that box is the very top part of the line of text that appears to read: "Choose preferences for your add-ons." It's as though someone had come along with an Exacto and sheared away the bottom part of that line of text. And then there's the <?> at the lower left corner. Along the right side of the box, under "Home Page," there are three buttons: <Use Current Pages>, <Use Bookmark>, and <Restore to Defau>, which is the point at which the text ends.
What the heck is going on? Now it's not only a matter of restoring the lower bar on my Firefox page, with add-ons displayed, but apparently I need to figure out how to resize the general preferences dialogue box, as well. I just checked: The other preferences dialogue boxes appear to fit correctly.
I use a Mac PowerBook G4 with Firefox version 3.6.13.

You may have accidentally put it in a folder instead of deleting it. Check all your folders to see if it is in one.

does it say not installed or does it say "download" in app store purchases?
if it say's download,  then it's there for future use if you need to download it again.
see image below - i'm running Mountain Lion and it say's download in my App Store.

  • Adobe Reader X Install Leaves Some Reader 9.0 Files Installed

I just installed Reader X on a Win7 machine, and find that the Reader X install left
some Reader 9.0 files still lurking about in the C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Reader 9.0\
folder (273 files in 9 folders for about 49.7 MB according to Properties).
Is it OK to just delete all this cruft, or might Reader X actually access/use some of
    these files?
    Thanks,
    /kim

Can you download Adobe Reader X from http://ardownload.adobe.com/pub/adobe/reader/win/10.x/10.0.0/en_US/AdbeRdr1000_en_US.msi
Once you have downloaded the installer, run the following command on the command prompt:
    msiexec /i <path to AdbeRdr1000_en_US.msi> /l*v "C:\ReaderX.log" /qb
For example if your msi file is in C:\Test then type: msiexec /i "C:\Test\AdbeRdr1000_en_US.msi" /l*v "C:\ReaderX.log" /qb
If the installer fails then please post the file "C:\ReaderX.log" here.
Also ensure that your shdocvw.dll is located at "C:\Windows\System32" folder.

  • Can I still install ios 7.1.2 on my ipad 4th via iTunes?

Can I still install ios 7? I know it's no longer supported but I don't want to put ios 8 on my ipad 4th generation. If possible, can it be done by downloading the .ipsw file and install it via iTunes? Fyi, i missed my lst upgrade from ios 6 to ios 7.
    Please advise.

No, you can only update to the latest level, iOS 8.1.3, which, by the way, works fine on my iPad 4.

Yes, but you must get Snow Leopard from AppleCare.    Be sure to tell them which model you have.  I have the exact same model, and twice they sent me the wrong discs under AppleCare.

  • Photoshop CC accidentally deleted but still installed.

    Hi,
I accidently deleted all my original adobe folders including Photoshop CC when i went back into the Adobe Appication Manager It shows that Photoshop CC is still installed and up to date but i can not access it. I've tried going into the hidden folders to find it but i can't.
How do i get Photoshop CC back?
    Thank you
    Tiffany

Deleting folders does not delete application registration entries for the application,  they sill exists as do shortcuts file associations created that were created during installation. I would not expect the application however it may look like the product is installed for everything  in your system configuration indicates it is installed. However the program executables have been deleted by you.  Bad you....
Download the stand alone Photoshop installer and install it over where the system thinks its installed. Then use menu Help>Updates to install the updates. If your one windows un-check the 14.3 update its bad.
