Reader XI won't play embedded media

I downloaded the latest version of reader his afternoon. I am trying to read an e-book in pdf format that has several embedded videos. The file is completely downloaded to my computer. Every time I try to play one of the embedded videos, a box pops up that says the media requires an additional player. It then prompts you to "get media player". However, when you click on the get media player button, a window pops up that says http 403 forbidden... the website declined to show this website.
I am running windows 8.
I have the latest flash player.
I downloaded the plug in installer for non ie browsers.
I have tried to select every different option under multimedia (legacy) and multimedia trust (legacy)
Is there something that I am missing here?
Thanks for your help

the url is
http://cgi.adobe.com/special/acrobat/mediaplayerfinder/mediaplayerfinder.cgi?
yes I installed all of the above. I tried to uninstall reader XI and install reader 9, since that is what is on my brother's xp machine and it works fine on his, but even reverting back to 9 it still does the same thing.
I also downloaded and installed adobe media player 1.8 (had to get it from a file hosting site since adobe doesn't let you download it directly from them) still not workiing
Here are some screenshots of what is happening.

  • Reader-8.1.1 and embedded media file

    Hi,
I cannot get embedded MPEG files running in the new Reader for Linux. I have RealPlayer 10.0.9 installed on my system and the `realplay' starting script is in PATH.
When I click on the movie, a message box opens saying:
Acrobat has encountered an error while playing this media clip:
Without telling the actual error. If I click a second time, the same box opens again, but a small black pop-up opens as well, showing a progress bar and the message `Initializing RealNetworks'. But nothing happens after that.
Do I need to configure something else?
    Thanks for any help/suggestions.
    Alexander

    Alexander,
I'm having a similar problem, but with a Flash file.
I've verified that I can play the file from the
command line and from my KDE Desktop (SUSE Linux 10.1),
and so I'm pretty sure that the player is working.
But when I generate a PDF using LaTeX and your movie15
    package AR8.1.1 redirects me to:
    http://www.adobe.com/special/acrobat/nomediaplayer.html
If I look at the attachments pane, the file is
    correctly identified as "application/x-shockwave-flash"
But under the filename, the phrase "Indeterminate" has
been added, which suggest that the something in the
annotation is not recognized (I'm using move15 2007/05/07).
Either that, or AR itself is broken.
I'm still in the process of dissecting the PDF to see
where the problem lies. But it would be helpful if
someone could post a url to an embedded media example
that is known to work with Linux AR8. That way I can
at least check that my setup is working, which will
    be hakf the battle won.
    Cheers,
    James

  • Safari won't play embedded slide show in my website, when it has previously

Safari won't play an embedded slideshow in my website.
It has been working for several months. It still works with firefox, but as i am a preferred mac and safari user, it bothers me for other safari users who may visit my site.
    website is www.paulwarrendesign.net
    click on BIO
Click on the Prey link on the lefthand side. It opens, and when you use the play slide manually, you can see that the pics are there. For some reason the slideshow will not play.
    Any ideas?

    Hi Paul
as you may know - your website simply links to this page at theage.com.au
that page doesn't do much except load a Flash-based slideshow here
the slideshow is created by some software called "Soundslides" and there is a known bug ( now fixed it seems, but would require theage.com.au to put new versions of soundslider.swf on their system....or make some other changes to the way their servers deal with audio.
I guess you could innocently tell theage.com.au that their page fails on Safari ( also Opera and Realplayer for me ) & hope they fix it.... maybe even point 'em to the fix? .
ahem, err failing that, your only option 'd be to get your web guy to make the slideshow on your own website's server; although copyright over the images/sound might be an issue?. If you go that route, the basic soundslider software is pretty cheap ( US $40 ) from http://soundslides.com/ and instructions here
I should add that once you've got images/sound that you are entitled to use.... there are any number of free methods to make a similar slideshow.

  • Safari won't play all media files.

As the title says I can't play all media files on different web sites. Web sites like SoundCloud and YouTube gives a message about Flash blocker browser setting/plugin error etc. Some files can be played and some can't but this matter only concerns video and audio files. When I go to 'Help -> Installed Plug-ins' there's a '(protected)' text in the 'QuickTime plug-in' list right after 'AAC Audio - m4p' and 'Video - m4v'. I think there's the problem but how can I edit these settings?
This problem came up after downloading the version of Adobe Flash Player. I have installed the latest Adobe Flash Player again and tried to reboot my Mac but it's not helping. I also found doubles of Flash Player from 'Macintosh HD -> Library -> Internet Plug-Ins' folder and deleted older file but neither that didn't help.
This is the QuickTime plug-in list copied from Safari's 'Installed Plug-ins' page:

  • My Z30 won't play many media sounds after upgrade to 10.3

I did an auto-update to the new OS yesterday, and ever since, there are some sounds that won;t play. I often listen to radio stations using the bowser (TSN radio, Jets games, etc). I know my old blackberry had an issue around not having a flash player, but this new Z30 worked right from day 1....until yesterday. Also, the new blackberry assistant won't talk to me either. I don;t know if that's a setting, or if it is talking but it's just not playing?? I can't get most of he Jet games on TV here in Alberta, so the radio is my only option, so I REALLY REALLY would appreciate someone helping me.

Try downloading the TSN app. I had the same problem that you described. The app solved my problem.

  • Laptop reads but won't play dvds

I have a Toshiba Satellite C875-S7303. When I put a dvd in the drive, I can go into my computer it won't let me play it as a dvd. All I can do is look at the files on the dvd itself. It used to work then it suddenly stopped. Am I missing a driver or something?

Hi! I'm sorry but I'm not understanding what your problem is. Your saying your PC sees the DVD and reads it,but it won't play. What do you have on the DVD that your trying to play? Do you have other DVD's that you can try. Are you trying to play music or vidios on your player. If the problem is on all DVD's, then we can start from there. I'm not one to start changing drivers unless it's neccesarry. Have you tried any of the trouble shooting methods that are available and are on your operating system. W7 Or W8??. If you know when your problem started, can you restore to a earlier time when every thing was working??
PS If you want to see if you have the lastest drivers. Zip file made with PSR.

  • WVC80N Recorded Video won't play in Media Player

I have a WVC80N camera.  I'm able to view the video, live over the WEB with not problems.  I can get the motion detection to work and email me video in .asf format that I can see fine.
I was able to get the video Recording to work and save the *.AVI files to a network SAMBA server with no problem.
However, when I try to view those *.AVI files with Windows Media Player, Windows Live Movie Maker, Quicktime or Media Center, it gets a error that says something similer to "Windows Media Player encountered a problem while playing the file" and nothing shows up. It doesn't matter what size, qualit or fps that is selected.  I ran into this problem on both my laptop and desktip machines (both running Windows 7).
However, I was able to view them using RealPlayer.
Any ideas why I can't view these AVI files using media center?

I'll take a look at the GPL sources to see how the firmware encodes the video output, I think the mpeg encoder might be built into the firmware's Linux kernel (instead of a stand-alone encoder program), I see references to the IBM mpeg2 headers but I'm not sure. But honestly addressing this possible bug is not the first thing on my todo list, but I do fidn this report interesting enough to merit investigation.
May I ask what you are using for the Samba server (aka windows shares)? Do you use your desktop PC, or perhaps a NAS server?
As an interim thing to try, I advice you install VLC media player to view the files, or to use VLC to examine the media files properties to see what you can findout.
IF you must use Windows media player, then I suggest you look into the combine community codex package.

  • Itunes won't play any media since upgrading to 10.6.3

I have had my laptop since christmas last year and recently had virus issues so I restored my computer from a back-up and it cleared that problem, but about a week after the restore I noticed iTunes stopped playing media, it would say it is playing but the bar on the song wouldn't move and stayed at 0:00, after that I uninstalled it and reinstalled the program to realize I still have the same issue and this happened a month or so since updating to iTunes 10.6.3. Next I noticed Windows Media Player and other programs like iMesh keep encountering errors while trying to play media files. Thinking this is related to the system/software restore, I restored the software to an even earlier date (7/22/12) and still have this issue. My speakers work fine and youtube plays perfectly as do system sounds for notifications an anything else, but what can cause only these media players to not play anything and say something is playing but the timer isn't movine? I first noticed nothing was playing when I was recording a video and I went to play it back and had no audio with and without headphones..... I hope someone has an easy fix for this, or atleast the iTunes portion of my issue....

  • Adobe Reader cannot play embedded Flash content

I don't know why, the Flash format was originally created by Macromedia, and then Adobe acquired the company, but the Adobe Reader cannot display Flash content.
    My PDF file is here:
    http://genifer.googlecode.com/files/agi-book.pdf
    Scroll to page 37.
The original SWF file is here:
    http://genifer.googlecode.com/files/unified-AND-OR.swf
which *can* be played on my Chrome browser.
But when I embedded the SWF file in the PDF, the result is unplayable.
A clue is:  Adobe Reader asked me to download QuickTime to display media contents.  So I downloaded QuickTime.  But QuickTime nowadays has removed Flash support.  Why did Adobe Reader ask me to download QuickTime to display Flash, when Adobe owns the Flash format?
I have also tried selecting other media players in the Reader's option box (eg, Windows Media, Windows built-in, Adobe Flash, etc) but none of them works.
I have also tried using Adobe Acrobat Professional 9.  Same result.
It seems to be a problem with Adobe Reader.  Any suggestions?
    Thanks!

Adobe Reader most certainly CAN play embedded Flash content, but only if you embed it properly.
You're seeing a Quicktime warning because you're embedding the SWF as "legacy media" content - this is no longer supported for authoring and is disabled by default for playback. You should use Rich Media Annotations instead (embedding using the multimedia/flash tool in Acrobat 9 or Acrobat X).

  • Adobe Reader for Android to play video embedded in a PDF document.

I am a medical  teacher. A large part of my teaching is technical and skills based and I have a lot of teaching video material. I distribute my material to my students as PDF documents with embedded videos. They can presently only read this on their PCs. It would be wonderful if I could place that material in a 7 inch Android tablet in their coat pockets. They could review a "how to"  video and text immediately before perfoming a medical procedure.  It is so easy and fast to prepare a Word text document, convert it to PDF embedded with a simple cropped video clip. Also the original word document can be updated in moments and be converted into  a fresh PDF with video in a minute later to replace the one on the student computer or tablet whenever. This makes the teaching material a living text easy to keep permanently up to date. To date I have not managed to find an eReader or Tablet that that I could play an video embedded in a PDF document. The problem is Adobe Reader for Android doesn't do this. Does anyone know of any other easy way to produce documents with embedded video that can also be read on a pocket size tablet or eReader?  Is Adobe going to upgrade Adobe Reader for Android to this ability sometime? Is there any other PDF reading app that can play embedded video?

GoodReader ($4.99), ezPDF Reader ($2.99) and PDF Expert ($9.99) are well rated and support many more features.

  • H.264 videos that played in Firefox 34 won't play in Firefox 35.0

We host a ton of h.264 videos in the mp4 container displayed through JW Player. We had zero problems with Firefox 34 and earlier playing these videos, the video is H.264 and the audio is AAC, the whole thing is around 500 kbit/s.
They play fine on Firefox 34, Chrome and IE but after updating to Firefox 35.0 we get an error: "Error loading media: File could not be played".
We have found a fix to get them to work in the about:config, switching "media.fragmented-mp4.enabled" to false OR switching "media.fragmented-mp4.exposed" to false will allow our videos to play. Single file mp4's will also begin to download where before we would get a "Video can't be played because the file is corrupt."
Alternatively for Mac users if they just set media.apple.mp4.enabled to False it also works fine.
Non h.264 mp4 videos will play fine.
Here is a playlist that won't play: http://media.vineyardinstitute.org/other/vi_announcement/firefox-test.html
Here is the single video file: http://media.vineyardinstitute.org/other/vi_announcement/05_kingdom_theology.mp4
Is there anything I can change on either the playlist or the video files to get this to work? Why would the h.264 files that worked in Firefox 34 NOT work in 35? I will not be able to re-encode all of the videos, it would take me months. Is this a bug with Firefox?
Also I have tried this in safe mode, tried with every plugin deactivated, I have uninstalled Flash and the videos would not play as well as reinstalling a new version of Flash and a fresh copy of Firefox 35.0
Any help would be much appreciated, we are currently directing all of our users away from Firefox till we get this resolved.
    Thanks,
    Kyle

  • Windows media player embedded(?) in website won't play

Hello! For some reason, the audio files on some forums won't play. For example, the audio file in first post here shows the controls for windows media player, but nothing works except for the volume slider:
    http://masterrussian.net/mforum/viewtopic.php?t=8393
I looked over the list of installed plugins and everything seems to be in order. Can you help?

Works just fine for me and I don't even have Windows Media Player for Mac on my computer or Flip4Mac WMV Player - but if you don't have that you might want to try it out. Flip4Mac WMV Player - with just playback functionality is completely free and is now being distributed by Microsoft to Mac users since it pulled the plug on future development of Windows Media Player.
You might want to make sure you have proper codecs installed.
Try AC3 Codec for Mac OS X (can Google it) for sound
for video you can use Divx 6 for Mac OS X - make sure you have QuickTime properly installed.
make sure before and after you make a major installation that you run Disk Utility to ensure your hard drive continues to work okay.
Flip4Mac WMV Player lets you playback Windows Media files using Apple's QuickTime plugin.
What browser are you using? and what version? Is it Safari? Firefox? Internet Explorer?, Opera etc?
Also make sure iTunes is running correctly on your Mac - by default it is used most often to handle mp3 files. Hope this helps!
