Is there any way, by which I can read/display word file as it is in Flex application (Web based). Is there any way or work around by which I can achieve this.

You can find swc-s that convert doc files to pdf files, you can also convert one page at a time, in case you have a big document.

I have used navigateToURL(url),but this was going into navigation and i can't see my textfield and buttons.

Flash does not have the ability to load/display/manipulate PDF files, so you can't open it directly in the flex application. With clever HTML and javascript, you can make it appear that it is in the same window, but it will actually be in a separate window/div in the browser. And yes, this has always seemed absurd to me that Adobe doesn't support PDF's......

Display MS word file in Office control

Hi all,
I am using the Office control UI element to display a MS word file in WD application. I have created a Mime object for the word file and get this file data into a Xstring attribute, and bind this attribute with the datasource property of the Office control.
But at the runtime I am not able to display the Word file, it displays only a White colour container with text SAP IOS. Can anyone suggest me how I can get the word file in WD component using office control.
I have also checked SOIS pakage, but didn't get any solution from the example given in this package.
For your reference I am using the below code to get the mime object in Xstring attribute.

tools->internet options->security->custom level
here you will find Active x controls and plugis..
enable all of them and try your applications..

Manipulating .doc (word) files in Flex 4

Hi,
I'd like to open a .doc (word) file in Flex 4 and do many things with it. First of all, i want to know the number of pages that it has got and the amount of blank space in the last page (a percentage).
Is there any API or library that helps me to do that??

It may still be easier to use Google Documents.
But if you don't want to do that, I suggest that you check SourceForge or jakarta.apache.org. There's a project called POI that lets you process some Microsoft Office documents in Java (Excel in particular), and there's probably one that deals with Word docs. Someone may have already written a utility that uses that to turn Word into HTML. Then you could tie that into your servlet environment.
Trying to display the Word file on the user's browser, directly, as a Word file and not processed into something else, is likely to be a tremendous pain in the butt.
Another thing you could possibly do is convert all your Word documents into HTML or XML or some other more portable format, before you even install them on your server. Make it part of your build/deployment process. It sounds a bit painful, and it might be at first, but doing things at build time is much nicer than doing it at run time.
Generally, I'd advise moving away from Word format completely, even before build time, if you can possibly get away with it.

Hi forum,
I develop flex2 application where user can browse and open
XML file: the file should be loaded to text area.
Could you, please, advice me how to browse and open user
file?
I found FileReference class but it looks that it can only
upload file to a server. I need to open the file in flex
application.

The issue isn't Flex, but the Flash Player. It is too much of
a security risk to allow SWFs running in the Flash Player to open
local files. Imagine going to a web site that has a SWF banner ad -
but that banner ad opens local files and sends them to a remote
system - all of your personal and financial information transfered
without your consent.
Flex apps running in the AIR player are different - the end
user must launch them explicitly, just like any other local
program.

Help Required on Reading an External XML file in flex

I want some help regarding flex.
I want to read an external xml file in flex and want to show
different datas in different components

How do I read my old WORD files, it does not seem to recognize them?

I downloaded LION and now my WORD files that I had previoulsy can not be read. How do I get them back?

Elaine, did you change your name from Andy, or are you a separate person? Most of us don't pay that close attention to the name and since your response seemed to be a continuation of Andy's problem, nobody noticed.
Your question appeared to show absolutely no attempt to try the solutions provided for Andy (who we thought you were). What you did is called "threadjacking," and you did it in a way that made everyone believe you were actually Andy, who's thread you threadjacked.
Being that you are a self-professed novice, here's a very basic thing you need to understand: for the most part, data is separate from applications. So, just because your application (Word in this case) no longer works, that doesn't mean your documents are in jeopardy. You can install Office (Word) 2008 or 2011 and open those documents just fine. You can also use any of the programs mentioned to open those documents. There is nothing to "merge" between the applications.
To move them to your new computer, just copy the documents to an external hard drive, thumb drive, or CD/DVD. You can then move them to your Macbook. You can also turn on file sharing and move them that way, but you probably ought to have a backup since you claim them to be important.
Do you have a backup of your iMac? If not, I would suggest getting an external drive copying all your data onto that, make sure it all reads ok, then do what you need to do with your iMac.
Apple's setup assistant should have asked if you wanted to move stuff from your old computer to your new one, which would have been the best way to do that; however, since it appears you have already set up your account on the new Mac, I'd just back up the iMac, either by straight copy, Carbon Copy Cloner, or SuperDuper. You can then move the files you want onto your new Mac from the external hard drive.

Regarding reading data from a file in the application server.

My question is:
The file in the application server consists of data with header, detail and trail out of which the detail contains the main information. The detail again contains the data in the form of a continuous string and again some spaces corresponding to a single record. I need to split the data in the internal table in such a way so that the first few characters get into field-1 of the target internal table. Again I need to consider the spaces for accessing the data for filling up in field-2. How do I decide on the 'Split' statement and specially when the whole string has to be taken care of as contatining data in a single string format without space and again some data after some spaces corresponding to a single record.
Your help is very much needed. Thanks to all the experts in advance.
