Reading/Writing Cookies in a JWS-Application
Hello at all,
is it possible to read / write local stored Cookies with an JWS-Application?
Scenario: The JWS-Application runs at the client PC and should be able to read / write one special cookie on the same machine.
Thank you and best regards,
Stefan
My problem is, that we have some webapplications running which write a session-cookie.
Then we have some swing applications on the client-side (Java WebStart). The JWS-Swing-Applications have to read / write the same cookie as the webapplication to provide single-sign-on.
Is this possible?
The Java-Version is 1.4.2_07.
Best regards,
Stefan

Transfer Data from a JWS-Application to another one
Hello
I have an JWS-Application that starts another JWS-Appliction via BasicService, showDocument(...).
Is there a way to transfer a large amount of data from the first application to the second one without using the filesystem?
Thanks.>
Nice demo Andrew.>Thanks. If anybody has the time, they might try adjusting the source file for that, from 16,000 bytes and see if they can claim the Meg. memory.
..some minutes later.
OK. It seems it can, so long as the user agrees (and it has not been barred by the system admin. etc.). First I got a dialog saying.
The maximum size of allotted storage is 262,144 bytes.
The applications has requested to increase it to
15,000,000 bytes.But once I'd OK'd it, then the console output read:
Cache created - size: 15000000Edit 1:
Alternately, to keep it both entirely sandboxed and without prompts. Request only the 262,144 (80Kb by my calculations) and write the data part by part within that limit.
The reading app. would need to check the persistence cache on a Timer (or similar) while the writing app. in turn checks it regularly during write operations. As soon as the reading app. has noticed and read the latest chunk of data, it sets a flag in the persistence service, and the writing app. writes the next chunk.

Im developing Adobe desktop air app where i need to read the session id from the cookie of a http request.
I have found a property called URLRequest.manageCookies supported by AIR so i Hope there should be a way to read the cookies as well. Im Using Flash Builder 4.5
Please provide any reference code or guide me for this research;
searched a lot regarding on this web.
Most results lead to local shared object or reading cookies fr a webpage using javascript and ExternalInterface.
I want to read http cookies not Local shared Object and in a desktop AIR application.
Im using Flash builder 4.5
Thanks

Reading & writing from MS Excel files in Webdynpro ABAP
Dear experts,
We have a requirement to read and write from an MS excel file in a Webdynpro ABAP based application. The application would be deployed on WAS (Web Application Server) which is running as part of SAP ECC on UNIX platform.
What is not clear is
1) If we store the MS Excel template on the server which has UNIX, will the file be recognised for reading/writing programmatically in Webdynpro ABAP? If this works, we have a requirement where the end users will download the excel template and upload the same after filling data into the excel file. The data filled into the excel has to be read and updated in the SAP backend (ECC).
2) There is an article on "Modifying Excel using WD ABAP" at the following link
https://wiki.sdn.sap.com/wiki/display/WDABAP/ModifyingexistingexcelsheetusingWDABAP
But again it is not clear whether this approach will work on Unix based SAP server (ECC WAS).
Thanks
SureshI don't know if there is an application in Unix that can read Excel files - if that is what you are asking. However that has nothing to do with this forum. If you are uploading the file to ABAP using Web Dynpro ABAP, then it doesn't matter what Operating System the server is running on. Unix, Linux, Windows - all the processing is done in ABAP and is OS independent. The actual reading of the file in ABAP involves reading either an XML or Text Tab Delimited version of the Excel file however - if you read through the links on manipulating Excel in ABAP.

Dynamic JNLP and JWS Application Manager
All,
I have a Swing application that communicates to the server via Servlets. I have packaged the entire application into a WAR file and I am using JWS to distribute to the users.
The "main" method of my application accepts two parameters, one of which is dynamic based on information from the web server. To be able to calculate the value of that parameter, I decided to dynamically create and serve my JNLP file through a servlet. The parameter is then passed into the application via the <argument> tag in the served JNLP file.
That part works great. However, once the application is installed, it doesn't show up in JWS Application Manager. My best guess is because there is not a "physical" JNLP file for reference.
Can anyone out there confirm or deny my guess? And, more importantly, can anyone give me an idea on how to keep the dynamic JNLP file and get it to install in the JWS Application Manager?
Thanks!Got it fixed. Apparently, the JWS Application Manager "view" setting wasn't correct. Once it was working, the application was showing up fine.

Creating Icon from JWS Application
Hi,
I have a quick question:
I would like to be able to launch a JWS application from a web page and have a desktop icon added to the desktop -- kind of like a "normal" application would if you used installshield to install it.
I know that I can add the
<shortcut>
<desktop submenu="Docs Express"/>
<menu submenu="Docs Express"/>
</shortcut>
XML to the JNLP, but the default behavior of the JRE seems to be to "prompt" the user to add the icon.
Can I either send a flag into the JRE installation (via a PARAM) telling it to set the default behaviour to "Always" or somehow use the shortcut element to tell it to "force" a shortcut to be installed.?No, I don't think you can force a desktop shortcut (or any kind of other desktop integration for that matter). The user has to make that decision.
But then, most Installshield applications ask if you want a shortcut on the desktop too... -
Suggestions for a cooking recipe web server application
I have my own web server running the WordPress software for our family blog. I'd like to run a web server application that will allow us to add and view cooking recipes. The only thing I've been able to find so far are three WordPress plugins: one is out of date, and the other two integrate rather awkwardly with WordPress.
I'm looking for something rather simple: a web server application I can run to allow us to easily see our family recipes. A stand alone application (not a WordPress plugin) is actually preferred. Well, actually, any suggestion about any possible solution is preferred.
Does anyone know of a cooking recipe web server application?
Thank you!
(By the way, the reason I keep saying "cooking recipe" is because, apparently, "recipe" means something special in the web development world. Makes doing Internet searches for my problem a little tricky. )There might be a Django app for that. You can plug Django apps in one big project (ex. a blog, cooking recipes, portfolio, etc). I can't explain it well, you might want to read about Django on the official website.

Efficiency of reading/writing files character-by-character
I've been assuming that when I do a file "open for access," that among the housekeeping functions set up behind the scenes, there is some sort of buffer created, the size of which is somehow related to the logical sector size of the disc in question, so that reading or writing short pieces of text, or even single characters, doesn't cause independent physical read/write actions at the disc drive.
Does anyone know if this is true or false? Maybe the question would be clearer posed another way. Suppose I set up a loop to read or write 1024 characters, sequentially, but one at a time. Obviously the loop will require much more time to execute than a singe read or write statement calling for 1K of text all at once. But will there be significantly more activity at the disc drive itself? Will the data be read or written on 1024 successive spins of the platter, or will it be buffered down to one spin, or maybe a couple, depending on the exact location of sector boundaries and so on?
Thanks.Thanks for this. I was sure some such facility was in operation, but I couldn't find anything explicit on the question. I have a task in which I'm trying to convert what looks like incredibly badly formed XML application files into properly tagged and well-formed XML so that I can then get them through a well-designed XML parser. To decode these utter shambles requires decision logic that goes nearly character-by-character. One tutorial page I found on Applescript file I/O suggested that reading/writing character-by-character was inherently inefficient, which I can see that it is, I just wanted to make sure the inefficiency didn't go all the way down to the mechanics of kicking the disc for every single character. The description in the tutorial was ambiguous, and a little disconcerting.
The tutorial also suggested an alternative strategy of reading an entire file at once into a string and then working with the string. But my files are megabytes long, and I wonder how efficient operations are on megabyte strings, presuming there isn't a limit on string length. Short of trying to do some complex adaptive algorithm, which I might never get working right, I'm pretty sure that keeping to the KISS principal, and just going character-by-character, is a near-optimal strategy in my case.
Cheers. -
Decompile / reverse engineer JWS applications?
If a program is deployed as a JWS application does that allow a user to decompile / reverse engineer the application code that is stored on the user's computer (assuming ineffective obfuscation)?
If that is true then is it not better to continue to deploy the program as an applet so that the user can not access the applet code?
(I apologise if this is a trivial question but I couldn't find this issue being addressed in any of the JWS hype)
CheersIf a program is deployed as a JWS application does

(assuming ineffective obfuscation)?Yes, of course.
If that is true then is it not better to continue to
deploy the program as an applet so that the user can
not access the applet code?No, that's a false assumption. If the class bytes are accessible via a web browser (how else can the applet work?) then they can be saved to the local machine and reverse-engineered.
If you want to increase the difficulty of reverse-engineering you should use an obfuscator. Just make sure it's a good one that produces class bytes that pass the verifier. -
Getting thread dump of JWS application
Hi,
I know this was discussed a few times before, but I still have no solution for my problem.
I have a JWS GUI application that deadlocks sometimes (Windows 98). So I want to get the thread dump to analyze the deadlock. In Java Web Start I changed the java command from javaw.exe to java.exe, so I get a dos box. When I press CTRL-BREAK inside the dos box, I get the thread dump but because the dos box just shows a few lines I only get the last lines of the dump. Under Windows 98 I cannot resize the dos box.
Is there a way to redirect the output of the dos box to a file? Or is there another way to get the thread dump of a JWS application?
Thanks in advance
MarkusHere is 50% of the solution. To generate a thread dump programatically, you need to call JVM_DumpAllStacks through JNI. You need to link in "jvm.lib".
JNIEXPORT void JNICALL JVM_DumpAllStacks(JNIEnv *env, jclass unused);
JNIEXPORT void JNICALL Java_Services_generateThreadDump(JNIEnv *env, jobject thisObject) {
// Produce a thread dump to VM standard out
JVM_DumpAllStacks( env, NULL );
}Here is the java class that calls the JVM_DumpAllStacks method through JNI.
public class Services {
* Send a message to the VM, forcing it to create a thread dump. The resulting
* thread dump will be sent to stdout. Note that this is the VM's stdout, not
* necessarily System.out.
public static native void generateThreadDump();
}When you reach the point in your code that you want to generate a thread dump, close stdout and reopen it with the thread dump destination stream. Next, call the JNI method. This will send the thread dump to stdout.
// Replace stdout with a file output stream
System.out.close();
System.setOut( new PrintStream( new FileOutputStream( "stdout.log" )));
// Generate thread dump
Services.generateThreadDump();Why is this only 50% of the solution ? Because this works beautifully for regular applications but it does NOT work for WebStart applications. Not sure what is happening here, but so far I have not managed to get any thread dump in a file from an application that has been fired up through WebStart. Note that I CAN get a thread dump in a file if I fire up the same code from the command line. -
Clients can't start my JWS application - strange exception
My clients are having a problem - some of them can't launch my JWS application. The error is a "class not found" exception, even though the class is in one of the jar files. It only happens for some users.
Can someone from the JWS team look at this? Do you know what the problem might be?
The discussion about the problem is at http://rpischeduler.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=18
Thanks!Hi eww!
Yes, that is of course not a big issue. I just found this behaviour a bit unstable for being a Mac. I turned to Mac quite recently. I love it, but I am struggling a bit with some of the differences...
Thanks for your reply! At least I know I'm not alone experiencing this. -
What is reading\writing on my HDD ???
who\what is reading\writing on my HDD slowing down my mac ???
Some times my mac slows without lot of cpu load but I can hear my internal disk working a lot...
I try to discover what process is using my disk but on activity monitor I am not able to see nothing... I've tried atmonitor but nothing... on istatmenu you can see global disk activity (high) but not by process ...
Is there a way to see on activity monitor or 3rd party monitor I\O activity like on MSwindows or Linux?

but without answers...
Is it possible that in mac os x 10.6.4 there is no way to monitor what process is spinning mi disk ?
Any tips ?*OS X* has support for DTrace. There are a few shell scripts available such as iofileb and iotop, and for a GUI application, there is Instruments if you have the *Developer Tools* installed.
