Reagarding XI alerts in PI 7.0 SP14
Hi experts,
Our landsacpe consists of production XI system which is at PI 7.0 SP14.There are three application servers(instances) for XI system(out of which one is central instance).
Recently ,i have configured alerts for errors in Adapter engine and Integration engine to be sent as emails(using SCOT).
i have started receiving alerts to my mailbox initially.
currently alerts are not being triggered from XI system(no configuration change was done recently).i have gone through various forum threads and blogs on SDN.but ,i could not troubleshoot the exact issue.
can you please suggest the how the issue can be resolved.

How to trigger alert in XI from a connected SAP R/3 4.7 system
Hi,
I have an asynchronous scenerio JDBC -> XI -> SAP R/3 interface.
How can I trigger an alert when the interface fails in the SAP system ?
BR,
VijayHi Vijay,
First , to create Alerts, Alert Rule, just check this blog,
/people/michal.krawczyk2/blog/2005/09/09/xi-alerts--step-by-step
It will help you in doing your entire Alert Configuration.
Next, from SP14 onwards, activation of end to end monitoring is not needed for Alerting. Refer to this note 870232 for this info.
Next, to test if your Alerts have been defined correctly, go to SE38. In the program , type RSALERTTEST and then click on EXECUTE button ( F8 ). In the next window, it will ask you for your ALERTCATEGORY. Just give the name of your ALERT CATEGORY and click EXECUTE.
If you have configured your alerts correctly, you will receive a message that tells ALERT IS GENERATED and will give the ALERT ID.
Now, go to your Run TIme workbench and then select ALERT INBOX and see if you have got the ALERT message in your ALERT INBOX.
If this is working fine, then the last step, implement the note 913858.
If you are below SP14, also check this blog,

Hi,
The scenario : E-mail - XI - IDOC
I need to send e-mail message for case that e-mail message from sender will fail for any reason.
Is possible for that to use CCMS, take some content to generated e-mail error message ?
Is CCMS standard part of XI 3.0 or it has to be installed separatelly.
Thank you.

hi,
I have an IDOC -> XI ->SOAP scenario.
How do we handle error handling in the below scenarios i described:
1. If i have an error in transmitting the xml to the receiver SOAP. How can i send an error email notification?
2. A retry or resend has to occur for 8 hours i.e., we keep trying for 8 hours and if it fails then we need to notify through email. How can we do this?
3. At the first failure transmission an email has to be notified and failure after 8 hours another email notification has to be sent so 2 emails will be sent for a failure transmission? Is this possible through XI?
How can we achieve the above?
Thanks,
TirumalHi Tirumal,
Configure 2 alerts.
One to be triggered when there is the error in tramsmitting the SOAP XML.
Next to be triggered after the retry for 8 hours. If you are using the BPM with wait, then you can associate the Alert with the Exception block of your BPM and trigger the same.
Also, from SP14, Alerts can be triggered for errros in both integratioon engine and adapter engine.

Hi,
Does anyone know if Identity Manager email notifications get automagically resent if they failed intially (because the SMTP server was down)? In my test environment it doesn't.
1. set-up email notifications correctly
2. make sure smtp server is running
3. trigger email notification (by running some workflow)
4. notification received
5. shut down smtp server
6. trigger email notification (...)
7. IDM returns error message
8. start smtp server
9. never receive notification triggered in step 6
Does somebody have a good workaround for this?
Thanks,

File not reached ftp : How to handle the error
Hi,
I am doing idoc-file scenario. I need to place file on ftp server. Now if i give incorrect ftp details, the error canot be seen in SXI_MONITOR but in Adapterframework i can see the error.
Can someone please let me know how this exception can be handled. I need to send mail notification notifying such errors.
Thanks & Regards
VaniHi Vani,
XI has 2 basic engines, the Integration Engine and Adapter Engine running inside the J2EE engine.
The reason that you can see the error in Adapter but not in SXMB_MONI is that the processing of your Integration Engine has no errors in it.
But, when the Adapter is trying to post the file into the Destination System, it errors out and so, the error in the Adapter Framework.
Errors in the Adapter Engine can also be used to trigger alerts and send email.

hi guys;
What I am trying to look is XI tries to insert data in database and some error happens while inserting data so how xi rolls back the trasaction and how can we write a logic to send a email about this error to any person.Mudit,
<i>how can we write a logic to send a email about this error to any person.</i>
You can create Alerts, which will trap all errors occuring in your process and send an email to the necessary person.

To send an EMAIL, assign an EMAIL ID to the corresponding user in the transaction SU01 and then set up SCOT and you can send emails when the ALERT is triggered.
<i>some error happens while inserting data so how xi rolls back the trasaction</i> Internally , you can set the TRANSCATON handling of XI. Mostly, this transcation handling for errors dyuring insertion is handled by the Database itself.

hi,
I have confiured multiple receivers in the Conditional Receiver determination. Its a IDOC -> XI- > SOAP scenario.
For each SOAP receiver an exception handling or error notification should be emailed.
1) Should i need BPM?
2) What are all the steps that would require in BPM?
3) Should we need a MAIL adapter to send these error notifications or can we use ALERTS?
Thanks,
TirumalHi,
If the requirement is to send an email whenever there is a problem in any of your interaface/ components, you can always configure alerts and use them without BPM.
But, if your scenario is such that you are already using a BPM, then you can also trigger ALerts from the BPM. But, let not Alerts be the only reason that you are usinga BPM.

Hi Folks,
I have a scenario like this,
I am getting file from FTP system using FILE ADOPTER to the XI system.
Once I get the file into XI system I should send confirmation message to FTP system saying that "I got the file" kind of stuff.
I am very sure that we have to BPM for this,
Can any body give me the step by step documentation.
Thanks
MSystem acknowledgments used by the runtime environment to confirm that an asynchronous message <b>has reached the receiver.</b> Means you can check for the system availability, FTP address/FTP parameters is right etc.
Application acknowledgments used to confirm that the asynchronous message has been <b>successfully processed at the receiver.</b>
Using BPM, you can handle System Acknwoeldgements, with the the help of Send System with Acknowledgement context(mode)
http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw2004s/helpdata/en/43/65ce41ae343e2be10000000a1553f6/frameset.htm
<i>where once XI system receive a file we can send some kind of message to the FTP.</i>
Can be done as mentioned above.
For this , you can easily do, in such a way that, once you recieve the message in BPM, you can send the "Success" message directly to the Sender.
But I don't think there is any importance for that. That means, just recieveing the message and telling the sender that I have got the message. In this case, if error happens only in picking of the files right ? For this you can go with Configuring the Alert (for Adapter Errors- in SP14 and above) whenever there is any error in the getting the file into the XI.
Hope this helps,
Regards,

E-mail warning: unknown error
I just installed Photoshop 5 and e-mail doesn't work. Quit working when I had 3.0. I just get a warning (adobe) unknown error. Help does not go into detail. Could there be a setting in "my computer" that I accidentally changed? Adobe has my e-mail registration number. I am at a loss. Windows xp home.

Alert Configuration for File to IDoc scenario
I have followed Alerts : Step-by-Step /people/michal.krawczyk2/blog/2005/06/28/xipi-faq-frequently-asked-questions
and configured Alerts for file to IDoc scenario.
But the problem is, I did not notice any alerts being generated. I could notice the IDocs being posted to destination system. So I was going through Alerts-Troubleshoute Guide. In intension to maintain monitoring level, I clicked Configuration tab. But I did not notice my sender and receiver system there to maintain.
Can any body help me to detail out the procedure to add sender and receiver systems to maintain the monitoring level?
Regards,
Suraj Kumarhi Suraj,
WHich SP version are you on??
If you are on Sp14 or above, then unfortunately, Michal's Trouble Shooting for Alerts will not help.
From SP14 onwards, activation of end to end monitoring is not needed for Alerting. Refer to this note <b>870232</b> for this info.
Regards,
Bhavesh -
This is regarding CBMA in single stack SAP PI 7.3.1. I have set up the alert mail using default java mail client.I do receive the alerts via mail. But my requirement is to direct all the alert mails to Business workplace inbox in ECC.
So I need to set up PI to redirect mails to ECC Business workplace user inbox (sbwp). From here rules are set up & routed per distribution list.
Please guide me how I can achieve this requirement.Hi,
yes, it is a little bit different. This is the issue.....
But I am not sure if your links will help:
1) /people/william.li/blog/2008/02/13/sap-pi-71-mapping-enhancements-series-using-graphical-variable
is about a different solution. I do not need to count the number of lines of the source message.
And the second variable is about concat line by line from unbound node to unbound node.
My issue is:
Souce:
Message line (0...unbound) ! ! ! ! ! ! ! !
. ResultLine (1..1)
Mapping:
=> ResultLine1
ResultLine2
ResultLine........ => into UDF to an element (1..1) in one mapping operation.
So that all "ResultLine"s are included.
The result is explained in the given link for Mail attachment with UDF.
So I am not sure how to use this thread for my issue.
In the comments of that blog Christoph Gerber writes that the new variable feature can only handle single values.
So it is not suitable for my purposes as I have a list of values here that needs to be moved into the target message field.
2) http://wiki.sdn.sap.com/wiki/display/Java/UsingEditJavaSectioninMessageMapping
shows where to find the button "Java section" which is not available here in 7.1
3) /people/sap.user72/blog/2005/10/01/xi-new-features-in-sp14
too is about the nice little button for Java Section that is no longer existing on PI 7.1 screen for mappings.
So my issue is: How to replace the Java section function with global variables in PI 7.1?
Best regards
Dirk -
Hi guys,
I'm having quite a little trouble in doing one thing which has been done for several times but which is giving me a hard time...
I've created a bpm process which in an error condition will trigger a simple alert.
I've tested the process and everything goes allright, except the alert. What is happening? Well, the alert is not being sent to my inbox. Why? Maybe because the alert is not being generated.
I've went to sxmb_moni_bpe and everything is OK. I can see the message of the alert being fired. After that I went to slg1 to see if my alert is being generated, and the answer is no. It's not being generated....
I've gone through Michal's blogs and everything was checked...The question is, if I execute RSALERTTEST with my alert category, the alert is generated and send to my inbox. Do you have any ideas?
Thanks a lot for your attentionHi,
Yes the job scheduling is needed only for Sp14 and below.
Can you recheck if the Alert is actually getting triggered or not in the BPM in the control step? Make sure that you have given the correct Alert Category in your Control Step and also, make sure that the recipient in your alert as well as the Alert Inbox entry you are seeing is the same.
Finally, refresh the Alert Inbox.

Problem Getting Error Code and Description in Alerts
We are having trouble getting the Error code and Error description in the Alerts and we're having trouble getting a alert for message mapping exceptions. I have read through the BLOGs and the help on SAP. I'm not sure it is something to do with the configuration or SP14. We did not have these problems with SP12 at our other customer XI implementations.
Background -
We have setup an "XI Alert" classification with three Alert categories -"XI_Mapping_Error", "XI_Adapter_Error", "XI_Runtime_Error".
For the "XI_Mapping_Error" alert category, we have setup a rule so that any Integration Engine Application Mapping.* Error code will create an alert. However, when we have a mapping error in XI which we can see in MONI, we do not get an alert. The checkbox for "Suppress Multiple Alerts of this Rule" is not selected. I am not sure why we're not getting the alert.
For the "XI_Adapter_Error" alert category, we have setup a rule so that any Adapter Engine * adapter type will create an alert. The alert gets created - however, some of the container variables do not get poulated in the email. We have defined Container variables pointing to the corresponding ABAP data dictionary elements - i have double checked these definitions.
Here is an alert email - the Error Code (SXMS_ERROR_CODE - SXMSERRTX) and Error Category (SXMS_ERROR_CAT - SXMSERRCAT) are not being extracted:
Alert ID: ##23896##
Error Code =
Error Category =
Message ID = 1506eab0-6125-11da-9ba2-00505685 Time = 14:26:12 Date = 29.11.2005
Sender Party =
Sender Service = BS_CPI
Sender Interface = MI_CPI_INV_RFC_REQ_ABS
Receiver Party =
Receiver Service = BS_CPI
Receiver Interface =
We are not able to figure out why the Alert framework is not working correctly. We are running XI 3.0 SP 14 on Win2K, SQL 2000.
Anyone encounter these problems? Any help would be appreciated.

Jay Malla>> There are some problems with SP 14 and the alert framework.
Very true! Join the team!
>> We applied Note 876546 which triggered certain alerts that were not getting triggered. However, we're not getting the Error code and Error Description in some of the alerts.
Jay, This note is specifically for a situation where the 'where did the error occur' set to No Restriction. I don't think anything else is included in this fix .01 to patch 0.9 of SPS 12 of XI 3.0!!!
My problem is that even the messageID variable is not getting replaced!!! In SP12 everything was perfect. After SP14, the errors are coming almost instantaneously to the inbox, but without any variable replacement.
Best of luck,
Kannan
