Really dumb question re Quicktime Pro

Good morning . .
My Mac is running OS 10.4.9 and I have updated my Quicktime player to 7.3.1.
Purchased Quicktime PRO, registered successfully but still only get Quicktime Player when opening the program. Any suggestions where to find QT Pro? Sorry for the dumb question but thanks for your help.
Jon

There is no separate QT Pro application. Successfully registering Pro enables Pro features already present in the Player. Items that previosly mentioned Pro should now just list the feature without mentioning Pro.

  • This maybe a really dumb question...

I know this maybe a really dumb question but I do need to ask:
-Do I need to buy a new vista to install on my new mac?
(I have a start up one that was included with my previous pc laptop..)
-In terms of partitioning, how should I distribute space?
    Thank you in advance.

The Boot Camp installation guide is [HERE|http://www.apple.com/support/bootcamp>. It should be able to answer questions related to installation. Of course these discussions have several other information on boot camp/ windows. All you need to do is launch a search on them.
-In terms of partitioning, how should I distribute space?
Too many people make a partition very small and then regret having done so. My recommendation is to have a partition of at least 32GB. It is highly dependent on what your will be installing on Windows XP/Vista.
-Do I need to buy a new vista to install on my new mac?(I have a start up one that was included with my previous pc laptop..)
It is more than likely that the Windows disk that came with your previous PC/Laptop is an OEM disk and will only work properly with that particular PC. This is generally the case with Dell, HP, Sony etc. The installation disk in the cases above are usually branded.
For more information on which Windows version(s) work with Boot Camp then please click [HERE|http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.5/en/11889.html].

  • Question about Quicktime pro

I bought a 30 GB ipod today, and i'm wondering if quicktime pro is required to play movies on my ipod? I'm confused wether it is required to convert current movies on your PC so they are able to be played or just needed for even watching them on the ipod. I cannot put any movie type progam on my ipod, and i'm current downloading a movie from the istore, will the movie from the istore be the right format or will i need quicktime pro? Help please!

Pro is needed to make an iPod movie in Quicktime but there are freewares available to do the job. You don't need Pro to play them on an iPod. One freeware to make them is this program: Mpeg StreamClip

  • Question about Quicktime Pro/Codec on Windows

Does anyone know if Quicktime Pro for windows installs a usable H.264 codec? I'd like to be able to encode directly to the codec via a 3rd party application instead of using Quicktime for encoding. If all the encoding is within Quicktime Pro, then I'm guess this won't work?
Anyone know if this is possible?

I'm not sure what you mean by a "usable" codec. If by that you mean you want the third-party application to be able to encode to H.264, that depends entirely on the third-party app. If it can use QuickTime codecs, then the codec should be usable without needing a Pro key (which just unlocks the editing and export capabilities of QT Player; the free version of QuickTime already has all the codecs Apple provides for Windows). If the third-party app doesn't use the QT codecs, then buying a Pro key will not make it do so.

  • Probably a really dumb question...but so am I

Just bought a brand new iMac (specs below). Old one? Panther (3.10.9), 1 GHz, 2 RAM, 80 GB space)
Keeping the old iMac. A perfectly good machine. Only reason I bought a new one: kind of maxed out regarding my primary use of a computer...home music recording. Just needed more space, power, speed, etc.
Question: Before I call the phone company (our ISP: ATT), want your advice.
Can I just hook up two computers (both iMacs, one old, one new), on the same telephone line (a land line...this would be the only phone line coming into the house), and have them work? Or, would the ISP, the telephone company, charge us more for doing this? Meaning operating two computers on the same line simultaneously. (Forget about wireless here. Don't use it, not sure that I will anytime soon.)
Why couldn't I just plug in the other computer into a phone jack in another room in the house and have it work while the other one, in another room but using the same phone line, is running at the same time? Both simultaneously. (Sure, I'd need a modem for each machine going into the ethernet port.)
As I said, possibly a dumb question. On the other hand, I'm pretty dumb too.
    Thoughts, advice, suggestions? Greatly appreciated.

It's probably connecting to a broadband modem (DSL or ADSL). That device allows you to get the high speed internet going on using the same phone jack in your house, and connects to the computer through an ethernet cable.
"Old school" or dial-up modems are traditionally built into the computer or plug into a USB port, and then use a normal phone cord (same thing other phones in the house use). Aside from being super slow, your line is usually busy and you're unable to make/receive calls when you're online.
I'm guessing you're connecting to a broadband modem (since you mentioned ethernet cable). With that in mind, the answer is yes, you can hook both those computers up so they can be online at the same time. What you need is what's called a router or switch, and they're not very expensive. One line connects to your broadband modem, then you have 3-4 jacks that you can plug additional computers in (so they can all use the connection at once).
If you want to have the machines in different rooms but don't want to run wires everywhere, look for a wi-fi router, which will usually give you a few jacks for connecting computers that don't have wi-fi but will also let you do a wireless internet hookup for your new iMac, the old one (if it has wi-fi), and even iPhones if you have 'em.
Apple has two products that might work for you. The Airport Extreme Base Station has super-fast wifi plus jacks for plugging computers in via ethernet, and even lets you share a printer. http://www.apple.com/airportextreme/ The Time Capsule does all that, and also has a built in hard drive (you can get with a 1TB or 2TB hard drive), which is great for using Time Machine. We've had a Time Capsule since they first came out and love it - super easy to set up, and all the backup stuff just happens without having to worry about it.
    Hope that helps!

  • Dumb question about registering Pro

I have QT player and bought the key for pro, instructions say open QT in system preferences. QT is not showing in system preferences, I am confused. How do I enter key?
    Thank you

Just had exactly same problem on my new work machine. Your post suggests you have Mac OS X (10.4.8) so this might not be applicable but certainly under Snow Leopard (10.6.x) this is what you need to do.
You need to go into your Utilities folder (Command+U in Finder) and inside you should find +QuickTime Player 7.app+.
If you can't find it then try this support article:
Installing QuickTime Player 7 on Mac OS X v10.6 Snow Leopard - http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3678
"To install the QuickTime Player 7 from the Mac OS X v10.6 Snow Leopard install DVD:
Insert your Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard Install DVD.
Open the Optional Installs folder and double-click "Optional Installs.mpkg".
Select the QuickTime 7 option and click Continue.
QuickTime Player 7 will be installed in your Utilities folder."
Once you have +QuickTime Player 7.app+ open it and then choose 'Registration…' from the QuickTime Player 7 menu
    Hope that helps,
    Mark

    Thanks again.

  • A really dumb question

I am trying to add a second page to a really simple website. I can't figure out how to link to the second page. If my first page is (for example) http://mysite.com and I make another page (I'm doing this in Dreamweaver) and I call it myinfo and I place it in the mysite.com file where the index.html file is what do I call the link? I tried highlighting the "see next page" and use the properties box and in the "link" box I browsed till I found the "myinfo" file but when I loaded to the web I get the error 404 File not Found. Any help on this Fri. the 13th?
    Thanks.

This is my website http://ourlccm.com/ now I am trying to make pages to link to it. The second page I made in Dreamweaver but I don't know what address to use. Thanks.

  • Really Really dumb question

I've asked this before but I'm still getting confused.
If I were to buy this, would it come with a monitor? Or just the tower, keyboard, and mouse?
    http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=9384285&type=product&id=1218096181010

Correct, that item is just the tower, mouse and keyboard. Sometimes, in the ad and on-line, we offer "packages". These are "a-la-carte" items (Desktop, Monitor and sometimes a printer) that are bundle priced together.

  • Really dumb question - sorry!

I purchased and downloaded the upgrade to PS 5 extended to my PS 5 edition last night, but now I don't know whether it really installed it correctly or not. How can I tell if I'm running PS 5 or PS 5 extended? Does it tell me that somewhere in the software?
    Any help would be appreciated.

If you already had Photoshop 12.x ("CS5"), then the last two steps you mention were unnecessary, redundant, superfluous.    No need to download or install anything, just pay for the new license, which gives you a new serial number.
Photoshop Extended is actually the very same program you already have/had installed, it's actually just the new serial number for Extended that turns on the additional Extended features.
All you have to do is go to the Help menu > Deactivate… to deactivate and erase your old serial number.  Then activate again and put in your new serial number, which instantly gives you the Extended version of the application.

  • Sorry..really dumb question

folks, you guys have been great in the past..I hope you can answer my question..
..and it does sound silly but since I do so many pics..it is starting to get to me..
When I do a "save as" on a jpeg, I usually add a few letters for sorting later on..what cs3 does is add .jpg to the save as line so I have to click on the line and delete the 4 characters..cs2 didn't do this..
I have searched all over,..does anyone know how to just get the file name sans .jpg ?
    Thanks
    Ian.

    Yes I do....is it a glitch in cs3 ?
No, I don't want the extentions hidden, I just
don't want the extention in the box when I am doing a "save as" save...
I process 1000s of pics and having to backspace 4 strokes to get rid of .jpeg before I add a modifer is quite annoyiong after awhile...
I know it is picky but there should be a way around.
    Thanks
    Ian.

  • Really dumb question I meant to ask for 5 years now.

whe i unplug the electrical supply from either my powerbook or the macbook pro, can you safely leave the power adapter plugged in without the computer end plugged into the computer? or do you have to unplug the power adapter form the ups power source? I always unplugged it but in my office it is a real pain to do it. I hated to start a fire or some such thing. what is the serious answer to this please.... cane I leave it plugged into my ups without it being plugged into the computer?
    thank you.

It should be fine. BTW 5 years is an awful long time to wait before posting this!

  • Probably a really dumb question

I do not have Apple TV but I think I need it. Question: Does Apple TV allow you to wirelessly use your connected TV as a monitor? For instance, while I am editing old pictures on my MacBook in iPhoto can I simultaneously display this on my tv so my wife can comment on dates, faces, places, etc of old pictures I am editing the metadata on?
    Thanks
    K

Unfortunately that isn't possible with the current software.

  • Probably a really dumb question, but how...

Hello everyone. I am new to Mac and Logic. I am doing a one-on-one tutorial with an Apple "genius" once a week to try and get up to speed on Logic, but I need to get something sorted out right now. I am producing a podcast for shortwave transmission and the file needs to be in mono. My question is, how do you set the export to mono? I see no options on the bounce menu to export in mono.
    Thanks in advance

I'm not sitting in front of logic but I think the master fader has a button to change it from stereo to mono. When it is in stereo mode it has 2 interlocked circles. When in mono, it has 1 circle.

  • Probably a really dumb question, but...

How to I upgrade to the newest version of iTunes? For a while, whenever I would open iTunes a box would come up asking if I wanted to upgrade. I always said no, and now that I'm wanting to upgrade the box won't pop up. So can someone tell me where I can go to upgrade? And would you advise upgrading? I have heard some bad things about it but I'm really needing to get some music and with the whole music store being frozen, I pretty much will try anything to get it working again and I noticed that one of the options was to upgrade. Anyway, thanks for any help!

Apple.com, click on itunes and download the latest version. Simple as that.
