REALLY Mysterious Gray Lines on Every Export (pictures)

I'm working on a video that contains a white background, and the client's background is also pure white. Every export I give him has a gray vertical line showing on the left and right borders of the video. We've narrowed down every possible cause, and it comes back to me.
Here's a picture blown up 1600% of the gray line:
I moved the video over a couple pixels:
It exists with every export that I do. .MOV, MPG2, etc. The gray bar won't go away. I tried scaling it up and re-rendering, but the gray bar still exists.
Any ideas?
I'm also on CS4 (the forum there wouldn't let me post). I'd really appreciate any experience you can offer with this.

Everything was exported from AE as .AVI uncompressed, the sequence is 1080p, 29.97, and I've tried almost every export format, typically at 12Mbps.
I found out that the issue only exists on a 1080 export, but the same format in 720 (exact same settings besides size) does not have the gray lines. With other videos, the color (not pure white) distracts from these lines, but with a pure white background, the lines exist as like a half gradient on the left and right sides... but not the top and bottom.
I understand how crazy it sounds, but it exists with every single 1080 render I've done. Could this be a CS4 issue, and I should just upgrade?
Thanks for your consideration.

  • Mysterious gray lines on my patterns

Okay, so, I'm pretty new to illustrator so you'll all have to forgive my ignorance. I've created the pattern that i've shown in the image, and when I'm in working on the pattern these gray lines dont appear, but then once i back out and fill a rectangle with my pattern, these gray lines always appear on top. I've noticed they change according to how i organize my pattern. (by grid, by hex, etc). I tried adjusting the rulers. The most frustrating thing of all is that they appear when I export the image. Please help! Thanks!

Turn off "Anti-aliasing" in Preferences to check if the lines are gone then.
If they are, it's just a screen redraw issue.
When exporting in raster based formats, select "Art optimized" method.

  • Emf file- gray lines

    Hi Everyone,
i have some graphics *.*emf files from Matlab. when i use graphic on MS Word there is no problem it looks like an orginalm forms but when i convert word file to Pdf with Adobe Pdr Writer, add some gray lines on my graphic (pictures are below). how i can solve this problem, Thanks

    Hi,
    Thanks for your reply.
It is a mapping of Microsoft graphics primitives into a file.
we are using bitmap.save function of microsoft .net framework to save to a .emf format.
Since it uses  bitmap basically, the saved file may not contain vector graphics.
My question is whether Illustrator supports to import/open this type of files?

  • Export pictures to PC

Hi, I've taken a picture with the flash on my iPhone and the picture seems to come out with white eyes. I tried using the red eye tool that comes with iPhoto. When I exported the picture to my PC, the picture was not modified and still had white eyes, but the one on my iPhone was modified? So I really don't understand why the exported picture was not modified?
    Thanks!

When I print a 4x6 color picture using an iMac with the latest operating system using a Canon MX892 printer, faint black lines appear every 3/16 of an inch. When I print the same picture using iPhoto there is no problem. Any suggestions?

What is the resolution of the picture that you are trying to print?
Go to Image>resize>image size, read the resolution in px/in, then report back, please.
Also, are you in a position to try printing with another printer in an attempt to narrow this down?

  • Horizontal Gray Line appearing on my movie (Star Trek Into Darkness)

Hello, I have been looking for a solution to my issue but all I get is references to iMovie and movie impot/export via iMovie.`
    http://gyazo.com/b58cb0236664e7aef5f9561ad8761ec4
This is the issue - on Star Trek Into Darkness - a horizontal gray line appears at the bottom and doesn't go away at what ever resolution I put it at.
    http://gyazo.com/a27fb2cb9e40c9886b71677fd0443716
Alternatively, this is Star Trek and there is no gray line. I legitamtely purchased both of these movies, both Standard Definition (SD) but somehow, Into Darkness is giving me this gray line.
    Solutions?
I've tried updating, restarting, tweaking preferences and so on.
    Thanks,

Jon, I really don't. The only thoughts on audio desync I may have is VirtualDub
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7tqDQNqDoGo
Or Adobe Premiere which is probably a more advanced video and audio editing software, but I've never used either one
Okay. Was concentrating more on finding a problem source that might be affecting both QT based apps (QT Player and iTunes) albeit with different problems. My basic assumption here is that the purchased file was correctly created and not corrupted during both download actions and doesn't really have either a video or audio problem. If true, then it is the players that are causing the playback problems and one point of commonality for both would be the QT structure routines shared by each. Unfortunately, it doesn't explain why each player manifests a different symptom for the same file. Was therefore asking if you were familiar with any known installation issues in this area. Also did not know if indiscriminant re-installation of the structure and/or affected apps would create a problem with the active media library under Windows if such action should become necessary. Did not find any reference to similar problems during a spot chack of movie file reviews and/or reported iTunes/QT problems under Windows OS but was hoping you might have come across something in your own experiences. Looks like this issue is a real mystery...

  • My iMac has extremely small gray lines on the screen?

My iMac has extremely small gray lines under the screen? There are 3 of them and they are right next to each other, have any of you guys experienced this? What did Apple do about it? BTW my computer is 4 months out of warranty, because i did not get the extended Apple Care, will they still fix my computer? Im really worried, but its not that noticeable, unless you already know its there.

They won't fix your computer because it's out of warranty, perhaps an AppleCare lesson learned here. Of course you can try which doesn't hurt. The longer  you wait though and the less chance they will help. Can you attach a picture so we can see what they look like?

  • Gray lines (masks)

I'm getting frustrated with this issue.  My client shows me gray lines that I thought corresponded with mask lines in my frame.  I see the lines on his PC, but I can't see anything on my monitors, not in FCP, Quicktime, external monitors, and I've gone through the full range of adjusting contrasts.  I'll describe the signal path, in case it is relevant.  Before I do that, my observation of this shows the lines at the edge of the frame directly above the subject.  The brighter the subject (one is a doctor in a white smock) the brighter the gray.  Can cheap PC laptop displays (or any sort of display) generate a reflective horizontal gray line when the video levels aproach 100%?
This stuff was shot on a Cannon 7D, rotated 90º so the subjects are shot on a frame 1080x1920 on a green background.  There is actually a lot of overshoot.  They have been keyed over black through AE keylight.  In FCP, we rotated it back 90º and have framed it, frequently over black, sometimes with images beside it.  That means the top of the shooting (and masked layer) frame is always in the frame as the screen right border.  We don't see any gray line there, vertical.  After the entire show was completed, these scenes repeat and keep showing the problem.  I've been through numerous versions of masking or not masking the black area above the subject's head but his PC keeps showing a gray line above the image (and not in the black area to the sides).  After FCP, I first exported it as ProRes 422.  To ship it to him I converted the 1920x1080i to a 640x360 h.264 quicktime.  I've got 5 monitors here, Macs and PCs.  None of them can see the problem.  He's the client and keeps seeing the problem on his cheap PC, so its a catastrophic problem.  I'll attach samples of the 4 subjects in question if this works.

Dont know what camera was used, the footage was given to me. The dimensions of the footage is 720X486. Dont know if that helps.

  • Gray Lines Over Image

HELP! I have to get this DVD burned ASAP! I created a menu through after effects, but then exported a still to use as the main menu to prevent the whole animation menu to play each time you go to select a different video. The animated menu came out fine, but the still image has two big gray lines over it: one on the top and one on the bottom of the image. My only guess was that it's watermarked, but I don't have watermark enabled. What is going on and how can i fix it?

    Hi
What size in pixels is your still? Without seeing it I guess could be a resizing problem.
    Hope that helps !

  • Gray lines through HD video: FCP

I'm trying to capture HDV footage via FCP 7 and the footage has gray lines over it in the capture window. I also sometimes have this problem when I export HD video files in FCP. (using source footage with HDCAM, XDCAM, P2, codecs...
You can see an image of what I'm talking about here.
    http://ozonestudios.com/Greg/graylines%20SM.jpg
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

    SOLVED:
This issue is from an older version of a third party AVID codec called Calibrated{Q} XD Decode for OSX. The grey blocks are the DEMO MODE watermark - however the codec is not meant for computers with Final Cut Pro installed. (my system used to be an AVID)
    To uninstall -
    1. Close all applications
    2. Delete the CalibratedXDCodec.component from the /Library/QuickTime folder (that's the Library folder on your Main harddrive NOT the Library folder in your User Guide)
    3. Restart your computer.
On restart you should be able to export without the grey watermarks (as FCP would then be using the Apple XDCAM Codec that comes with FCP).
Thanks to Greg Booth from Creative Cow forums.

  • Weird 45 degree light light gray lines

i have buyed my new black macbook 7 days ago and there is a big problem on the display, it's all full of weird 45 degree light light gray lines, i saw other macbook too and they haven't this problem or the problem is sooooooo light, but on my macbook for example the white don't exist and there is only white with a grey pattern X|
monday my apple shop send my laptop at apple assistence and i hope that it come back with fix and not in equal mode. i readed on blog that much people have this problem, and sometimes apple change the macbook.
    someone have the same issues?
thanks a lot for the reply and really sorry for my bad english

This is something that's worse on some Macbook screens than others. On mine, it's noticeable in the top half of the screen, less noticeable as you move down, only shows up on a plain white background, and it's not really bothersome. But it's not perfect.
My guess is that if Apple paid more for the screens, they could get a higher standard of quality. As it is, they get some variation, and would probably replace ones that are really bad and have really persistent owners.
In a way, it's just like bad pixels. Apple doesn't expicitly guarantee you won't have any bad pixels, and they'll resist replacing the screen or computer if it's only one or two.

  • Blank file with gray lines

When I look in an event some of the photos are blank with gray lines in a square. When I double click on it the picture appears. If I burn these on to a disc will they show?

    No.
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild.

  • DV export problems with grid line noise on export

On exporting in Premier Pro CC I am seeing faint grid lines across the whole picture that are not in the project timeline or the source clips - in other words looks fine in the project but not when exported out. Looks a bit like moire pattern but much more regular dotted box pattern about 5-10 pixel regular box size across whole image in grid - very odd. The noise pattern is not on the source or from camera chip I don't think - although that's what it looks like when sharpness is too hard on camera settings or chip structure bleeds through.
Have been using sharp filter and preset colour balances but as I say look OK in timeline but not after export. Tried using with and without high quality render  - no difference.
I am using DV25 as the export format and I am working on a high end Mac Pro with the latest version of CC.
Very frustrating issue as ruins quality of output - any thoughts gratefully received!

    Hi Jim,
I have viewed in Quicktime 10 and in Final Cut 7 (where I sometimes go back to to use the Neat Video plug-in for noise reduction)
