Rebooting w/o disconnecting power cord from router

I can't get my WRT54G router to reboot without disconnectring the power cable from the back of the router.  I need to do it by turning off a surge strip that the router is plugged into - I have a disability which limits my use of my hands making it impossible for me to independently unplug the power cable from the back of the unit.  I had an old version of the same router that worked fine with the surge strip, but this newer router will not reboot after being shut down via the surge strip.  When I use the surge strip to turn it off and back on the lights come on but are not blinking and the wireless setup button is unresponsive - I have to tilt the router up to look at the lights to be sure they are on.  Does this sound familiar to anyone? Any suggestions?  Thanks in advance.

What router are you using?
Linksys routers have no battery.  After you turn off the power strip, and turn it back on, the router should go through an entire reboot and re-initialization.  It should do the same thing as removing the power cord from the router.
When you turn off the power strip, wait one minute, then turn the power back on.
Also, make sure the router is not plugged into a power strip socket that is "always on".

  • Can I use a power cord from a 2007 iBook?

I have extra power cords from my old iBook - I would keep one at home and one at work. It appears to fit the new 13" MacBook Pro. They are both made by CE and appear identical except for the 90º magnetic connector on the new model. They are both labeled: Input AC100-240v-50-60Hz 15A; Output 16.5v 3.65A ADP-60AD B
I don't want to blow anything up...

Actually I misspoke: the old laptop is an early generation white polycarbonate MacBook with the first Intel core duo. It does have a Magsafe, and I am asking if I can plug the entire cable from the old MacBook from the wall into the new MacBook Pro.
    Thanks for your help!

Can I use a power cord from a Macbook air with a Macbook?

No, the MacBook Air power adapter is a 45 watt. A MacBook needs at least a 60 watt power adapter although you can use a MacBook Pro 85 watt adapter. You can use a higher wattage adapter without any problems.

  • PB freezes when unplug power cord from laptop but not power outlet

Hi. Been having a dilemma with my PB for awhile. When I unplug the power cord from the connection in the PB, my laptop will work fine for a few minutes but always freeze at some point. By 'freeze' I mean the cursor will not move and the keyboard, trackpad, etc will not respond at all. I can restart it and continue to work until it will (always) freeze again. Strangely enough, if I unplug the power cord from the wall outlet but leave it in the side of the PB, I don't have any freezing problems. I'm not that savvy with Apples yet since I made the switch but I've tried resetting the pram thing but to no avail.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks!

  • HT2494 how disconnect extension cord from charger/block?

I can't pull the extension cord out from the power block/charger. Who can help?

Are you talking about the AC cord:
If so, note that the cord does not pull out, it slides off along the long axis of the "duckbill" so you can replace it with the plug piece instead of the power cord.

  • Shuts down after disconnecting power cord

  • TS3274 can't disconnect power cable from iPad port cable

The iPad 3 comes with two cables. One has a USB port on one end for connecting the iPad to a computer. The other plugs into an outlet and the business end is a female USB port. So you have to connect the two cables in order to charge the iPad. However the cables then can't be pulled apart when I need to connect the iPad to my computer. Spent half an hour on it and made little progress.

Bruce,     Don't understand why you are connecting two cables together to charge your Ipad.      If you use the USB cable connecting the Ipad to your computer this will enable your ipad to be charged up whilst the computer is switch on.    You should have received a mains plug adaptor which the USB cable plugs into and the other end into your Ipad to charge it up WITHOUT involving your computer at all as a 2nd option.    Can't help you with the cables stuck together other than saying that they did apparently join together and therefore will come apart again with more effort.     NickGS

  • I purchased an airport Extreme from germany. I would like to know if I can use it in the USA, and would I need anything else apart from a new power cord for the same ?

I purchased an Airport extreme from Germany to be used as a router. It worked very well over there and I plan to use it in the States. Now, since the power output is different in both USA and Germany, would I only need to buy a new power cord from USA ?

The AirPort Extreme will run on 100-240 Volts and 50/60 Hz, so it will operate just about anywhere in the world as far as power goes, if you have the right power cord or AC wall adapter. A voltage converter is not needed.
But, European wireless standards are different than the U.S., so you will need to avoid using Channels 12 and 13, which are not authorized for use in the U.S. Otherwise, things should operate OK.
For all the details on wireless standards in different parts of the world, see this document:

  • My iPad loses connection after waking away from router even in the next room over.

I know it's just my iPad, as when other people with iPads are here (or even just with my iPhone), they still have their connection and mine is lost. Or when I go places, people will have their connection pretty far away from their router and my connection is lost. I have rebooted the iPad and nothing. My iPad screen cracked previously so I took it someplace to get it fixed, so I don't know if that has anything to deal with it? Help please!?

    Some things to try first:
    1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
    2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
    3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
    4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
    5.  Renew IP Address: (especially if you are droping internet connection)
        •    Launch Settings app
        •    Tap on Wi-Fi
        •    Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
        •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

  • Ipad retina disconects from router

Got connected finaly by updating the router firmware, reducing width to 20 and increasing wep2 pw to over 12 digits. Ipad now connects but disconects every few minutes and asks for the wep2 pw again. Thinking my years of PC'ing may have been well spent LOL. Any Ideas greatly appreciated.

  • Turn off after unplug the power cord

    Hi,
I have a MacBook Pro form 6-8 months and everything works great but from 2-3 days ago now everytime when i disconnect the power cord from the computer the system turn off.
I think the battery is good because i can use the computer only with battery (like im doing right now) and if i press the battery indicator button all green lights turn on and i can use the computer for 1-2 hours using battery only but for some reason if i connect the power cable again and disconnect later the computer is turned off.
I install all updates by apple.

  • My Macbook pro keeps shutting down right after I log in. The power cord seems to be fine, so I think the computer has enough power. Right after logging in, it shows a grey background with a loading bar that loads only 1/4. Then it shuts down.

I have had my Macbook Pro since 2011 and it has been great until now. Suddenly, I can no longer get past the grey screen just after I log in. The grey screen appears with a loading bar, and the bar get 1/4 of the way complete, then the computer shuts off. My power cord seems to be working fine because this problem still occurred after using another power cord (from another Macbook). Keyboard does not light up, and the small green lights on the left side of the computer do not light up (this is an older version and these light indicate how charged the computer is). It is using the OS X Yosemite and recently had total clearing of the hard drive as it was transferring from one owner to another, so the hard drive isn't nearly full enough to be causing this problem. I've never run into this problem before with other Macbooks.
    Help!

Hi. When you were in the recovery drive doing permissions, did you try and run a repair of the boot drive? Did you try single user mode? Try these first and then go back and try to reinstall the operating system. When I say repair boot drive I don't mean permissions. There are both options in disk utilities. When you open disk utilities ,you will see in the left column  two drives plus possibly  a boot partition that look like an external driv. click on the second drive and in first aid use repair disk. If you still can't boot and it will not let you restore, you may have to do a clean install.   http://support.apple.com/kb/PH18869?viewlocale=en_US
