Receiving own email

Anyone else having issues with receiving the email you send in your inbox?
I have my email set up through gmail, if that matters?!? I have already checked the setting for "always CC", it's not on. I even tried turning it on, sending an email, then turning it off... Didn't work. Also tried a hard restart... It still sends me a copy... All while still putting a copy in the sent folder. Thanks in advance!

Actually, I'm still fighting with it too. So no luck yet. I wonder if the old accounts on the iPhone are really getting deleted when you create a new one. Especially if you're seeing the same names re-appear.
I have it set up as a GMail account on the phone with Recent mode off. I then changed my Mail.app settings to have username = recent:[email protected], which made Mail download 30 days worth of messages. Deleting them was easy though on there.
Now, new mail arrives at both locations, and somehow sent mail from my iPhone doesn't end up in the inbox. Maybe the iPhone knows what it has in the Sent folder, and doesn't redownload? It does arrive in Mail.app, which is filtered to my sent items folder... so I think... i'm in a good place.
I think we just have to wait a little while for Push-IMAP from Google.

  • I am receiving spam emails from my own email address and need to put a stop to it asap please.

Hi as per above, for the last week I have been receiving spam emails from my own email address. Can anyone help me please to put a stop to this and also perhaps explain how it happened? Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thank you so much.

'''but not sure what you mean when you say I must not store it on my computer?'''
I was just thinking that if someone or some software agent is accessing your computer then they also have access to saved passwords if for instance it is webmail and the password is stored on Firefox, or if you store logins and passwords in any other utility.
'''I have asked my service provider again for help - waiting to hear from them. I don't store passwords in any other utility that I know of? Are passwords stored automatically somewhere on computers?'''
An obvious thing to do is also make sure you log out of email and do not leave yourself logged in or use the remember me option.
'''Yes, thank you, I always log out and never use the remember me option'''
'''Thank you for your input. I did report this to my service provider and they assured me that no one is accessing my account?
I wonder what they meant by that
possibly that the account has been accessed only from your computer and the same IP Address has been shown
Maybe just that the mail used your login and password.
'''I have asked them to verify the above - thank you. :)'''
What are the emails ? do they make sense, are they also sent to others ? and of course is it likely anyone else is using your computer and sending these emails.
'''The emails make some sort of sense but not much. As far as I know I am the only one receiving them but just to be safe I deleted my Address Book. No one else has access to my computer - I am the only one who uses it. :(('''
it is probably worth contacting them again, give a couple of examples of the emails you are referring to and tell them that you yourself did not type those emails. Ask if they can explain how this may have happened.
'''Done and awaiting their response. :) Thank you'''
As a general security measure it is also good practice
to use a limited user account for day to day work not an admin account
    http://www.microsoft.com/resources/documentation/windows/xp/all/proddocs/en-us/windows_security_whynot_admin.mspx
to set passwords up to login to your computer
'''what is a limited user account? Also, I am now busy adding a password to my computer and making all files private through User Accounts. Would that help do you think?'''
    http://www.microsoft.com/resources/documentation/windows/xp/all/proddocs/en-us/usercpl_create_password.mspx
(IIRC at one time by default XP setup an Administration account with a nul default password, an F8 reboot would get you in by just using the return key when the password prompt showed ) P.S. as mentioned method 3 in this article http://www.slideshare.net/passexpert/six-methods-to-crack-windows-admin-password-remove-unknown-windows-admin-password. Rather a serious security hole.
'''"oooh, sorry, the above paragraph is way past my limited knowledge? Will read the article again and get back to you. Thank you so much for your help so far. :)'''

  • We are receiving emails from our own email address but different actual sender?

We are receiving emails with our own email address as sender but with a difffrent sender name.  What gives?

this is not normal but try to see the multiples accounts in the mail check if his account is not connected yet

  • Why am I able to receive an email from my own email address that I never sent?

I get email in my inbox that sends it to my junk email folder sent from my own email address that I never wrote or sent. It is junk mail and I want to stop it, I see no way to stop email with unwanted words like you could in windows xp.

Spammers can forge any "from" name and address they like on a message. Since most users don't block mail sent by themselves, they hope to slip past your spam filter this way.
Unless you see these items in your Sent Items folder, or they list multiple people from your address book, most likely they are not connected to your email account.
That said, it's a good idea to scan your computer for malware, because many users unknowingly get recruited into spamming rings (a bot program on your computer takes commands from the botnet coordinator and sends out the spam, usually without any visible indication). This article lists tools other Firefox users have found helpful: [[Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware]].

  • Pictures, videos sent from my Android device to my own email are no longer received

I have been taking pictures or videos with my LG Android device for a long time now and often send them to my own email address. I do this for numerous reasons, least of which is to edit them for later. Never an issue. For about 2 months now though all video or images I send show as successfully sent but they never arrive to my email inbox. I've checked junk mail of course too. As it stands now I have to wait until I am home, remove my card from the phone, insert it into the computer and then transfer the files, take the card back out and put it back in my phone. It's kind of an inconvenience. It's not on my end. Friends can still send smart phone images to my email with no issues. Any idea what is going on with this?

Hello natja-k.! Thanks for sharing your concerns over messaging images and videos. It sounds like you've done some good troubleshooting thus far. I have a few more suggestions. First, I recommend emailing the media files to yourself instead of messaging. If you're able to successfully do this, then we'll know the issue is occuring in your messaging rather than your email account. It will also help retain the original integrity of the files (which must be reduced in quality for them to be send via MMS).
Also, I recommend trying to MMS these media files to different email accounts to see if the same occurs no matter the email account.
It may be less convenient for you to move the media files via SD card but it does preserve the images best. Please let me know how our tests go. Thanks!

  • How to use this forum - is there a way i an receive an email alert ?

    Hi Everyone,
Is there a way I can receive an email alert when I post,
or when I want to follow another's post?
Is there a way to receive an email digest of the day's posting actiivity?
    pls advise, tx, sandra

    Hi Sandra
You can flag a thread to be watched and you can flag that all threads that you post to can be watched. To set this up click on the Watch this Thread link and then click on the Watch Options link alongside. You can unwatch at any time.
Your watched threads will have an icon of a small pair of binoculars to the left.
From the master list of all threads in the forum there is also a link called Watch Forum. I haven't tried it but presumably checking that means you get emails on everything. As suggested by Nancy below you may well get inundated. I don't think I would like to be informed of all threads as I like to visit in my own time, something that I do several times a day.
    Best wishes
    Michael

  • I receive daily emails from the NY Times, which I read from my Ipad. Some of the emails will show all of the stories available, and some will only show a few lines in the body and the rest of the email is blank. Any ideas of what I need to do to fix this?

Try a reset: Simultaneously hold down the Home and On buttons until the device shuts down. Ignore the off slider if it appears. Once shut down is complete, if it doesn't restart on it own, turn the device back on using the On button. In some cases it also helps to double click the Home button and close all apps from the tray before doing the reset.

  • I don't receive some emails

I'm using a MacBook Pro, Mac OS X 10.7 Lion, and Mail 5.3.   I don't receive some emails.
One day last week my wife sent me two emails from work.  I received one, but the other one never showed up.  She sent it to me again the next day, and again it didn’t arrive.
I thought that perhaps there was something in her second email that was blocked for some reason by some kind of filter at her work, but this morning I happened to open Mail on my lightly-used iMac 1.8 GHz PowerPC G5 (OS X 10.4 and Mail 2.1.3), and saw that both of her emails had arrived on the day she sent them.
Back on my Macbook I looked through junk and trash folders and searched by my wife’s name and by her work email address - No sign of either email.  Anyone have any idea as to what’s happening?    Thanks,  Gene

I’m happy to say that I’ve found my problem.  I was a bit daunted by the thought of rebuilding my pack-rat-like mailbox, so I put it off to see if any other emails disappeared.
Today, checking mail on my infrequently used iMac, I saw an email had arrived a week ago from my daughter (along with a reply from my wife who was also an addressee) that never showed up on my MacBook Pro.
Going through my MacBook’s mail preferences again, I took the time to review again my Rules and saw that I’d listed the word debt along with bankruptcy, manhood, and a few other words with the instruction that any message containing that word should be automatically deleted.  Both of the emails that “never showed up” on my Macbook included the word debt, and had been deleted without a trace by my own rule.  I’ve changed the rule now, at least for debt.
Thanks to all who read my problem and gave it some thought.  The troubleshooting sites that Sheila M. steered me to and, believe it or not, the fact that out of 100 people who’d looked to see if they could help, there were no other ideas --these things helped me conclude that the problem might well of my own making and not some flaw that other folks run into.
I appreciate having this community to turn to.

  • Anyone know anything about hosting my own email address ?

    hi
im migrating my broadband to a new ISP but they dont host emails - they said i could host my own email -
does anyone know anything about how to do this and also how to do this on my mac ?
sorry - a bit clueless on this issue
    thanks

Or, you could actually run your own mailserver. I run a 5-account mail server for immediate family members, three of which are grown adults no longer living at my home. To do this, I got an inexpensive GUI application for the Postfix that is already built-in to your Mac. An outfit called cutedgesystems.com sells one for I think about $25-$30 named Mail Serve Pro. Their help files (on their website) are pretty decent for a very basic primer.
You'll need to have your own server domain name. I went ahead and got my own free domain name through dyndns.com. They have a piece of software that goes on your computer so that every time your ISP changes your WAN IPA on you, it reports the change back to the dyndns servers, so you (and other smtp servers) can always find your machine by host name.
I also bought a paid service of theirs called mailhop relay. It sets them (dyndns) up as a mail transfer agent, so whenever anyone sends mail to any account on your server, it goes to them first to be virus scanned and spam assassinated with black hole lists, whitelists and blacklists. That really cuts down on the spam hitting your server and using up your (likely quite limited as compared to the big boys) bandwidth because it gets stopped upstream. That costs about $40/yr. You'll have to check their website for pricing to make sure.
I also got a service from them called mailhop outbound. It's like $10/yr for the lowest tier of service (150 outbound "relays" (sum of messages times recipients per message) per day). Now, while you could send an unlimited number of emails directly off your server and not bother with this service, if you have a dynamic IP address, you will find that outfits like roadrunner.com block email coming from servers that have a dynamic IP address. They equate dynamic IPAs to spammers. Unfortunate, but that's the way it is. So mailhop outbound relays all outbound mail from your server to dyndns, so the likes of roadrunner will accept messages from accounts on your mail server.
Security update 2008-007, at least on Leopard, broke my mail server. Can't speak to the latest security update for Tiger. That update added a line to /etc/postfix/main.cf that says "inet_interfaces = localhost". You'll have to comment that line out (# as first character in line). You'll need to remember that future OS updates or security updates may reintroduce that line.
You'll need to open SMTP in System Prefs so mail can be received from other smtp servers and so authorized users on remote computers can send mail through your server, and either IMAPS or POPS, in System Preferences, if you will allow roaming computers to receive mail through your server. You'll need to port forward those same ports through your home router to your computer.
Yes, it can be a bit of work to set up and maintain. And you need to be careful and vigilant against unauthorized use and hacking. So you'll get paranoid and start installing network intrusion detection and enforcing other draconian security measures (as well you should). And the computer needs to be left on ideally 24 hr/day, and although the screen may sleep, and the hard drive may sleep when possible, your CPU can never sleep.
So, after all that, that $2/mo domain hosting, or just getting a free AOL account, may not be such a bad idea after all...the above approach costs you about $4.25/mo and you have to maintain it.

  • When I donated on line yesterday, I was told I would receive an email about my transaction; why did I not receive one?

Since I have yet to receive an email confirming my donation, I got nervous. I just got off the telephone with my credit card banking company just to confirm that my donation did go to Mozilla Firefox. Since I got the right answer from them confirming who it went to, I am now O.K.

I am one of the unpaid volunteers here. The link at least appears to be genuine and similar links may be seen if you click the ''Mozilla'' tab at the top of these pages.
I might have expected a confirmation email to be sent. I also note the page mentions:
''Contributions go to the Mozilla Foundation, a 501(c)(3) organization, to be used in its discretion for its charitable purposes. They are tax-deductible in the U.S. to the fullest extent permitted by law. ''
I might have expected that to indicate some sort of numbered receipt would be issued for IRS purposes. Although you say you now have no need for a receipt I will ask, because of my own interest in the procedure and the possibility that something could be going wrong but not being noticed. It may be a couple of days before I or someone else will be able to give you any further information.

  • How can I change my settings (email) to my daughters own email

how can I change my settings (email) to my daughters own email. It is a new ipod touch and I just set it up using my email (apple id) amd want to change it to her own email

    CHANGE ID
The ID is used in the following locations and you  have to change them.
    Settings>Messages>Send and Receive
    Settings>FaceTime
    Settings>GameCenter
    Settings>iCloud
    and Settings>iTunes and App store
You  have to sign out of ID (for iCloud you delete the iCloud account from the iPod) and sign in with other ID.
Note the following are resolved if you  use Family Sharing (iOS 8 and later):
    - Apps are locked to the account that purchased them.
    - To update apps you have to sign into the account that purchased the apps. If you have apps that need updating purchased from more than one account you have to update them one at a time until the remaining apps were purchased from one account.
If the iPod has iOS 7 or later then you have the enter the password for Apple ID presently sign in Settings>iCloud.
Also, a Restriction can be set (Settings>General>Restrictions) the prevents changing accounts
NOTE yo have to be at least 13 to create a regular Apple ID. However, with iOS 8 and Yosemite you can create a new Family ID for under 13.

I received an email from "Apple Alerts" <[email protected]>
    Subject: Pending Purchase Notification
Your AppleID was used to buy the "H&C" from the iTunes Store on a Personal Computer or device that had not previously been linked to that AppleID.
This purchase was initiated from the following IP: 217.149.115.181 (Volgograd, Russia).
If you made this buying, you can overlook this email. It was emailed to you just to warn you if you did not make the purchase by your own.
If you did not make the operation, we encourage you to verify your AppleID:
Does anyone know if this is a scam?  Sound like a scam to me?  Thanks Lu

Every Apple empoyees, normally do get an e-mail address with Apple domain.
So this means that you could receive one like for example: [[email protected]].
