Recently played playlist doest sync in order of recently played

On my nano and other iPod's I could sync the recently played list by last played time. With the iPhone, it is syncing in a random order even though on iTunes it is sorted by last played time. How can I get around this?

If you turn off Live Updating on the playlist, it then sorts it correctly. You just have to turn it back on when you need to update the list and then turn it off again before you sync. This isn't a fix but workaround. Someone else mentioned this on the boards. I have the same issue and tried it and it works.
Don't know if it is iTunes or the iPhone.

  • Recently played playlist wont sync

I updated the software on my iPod touch 3rd gen and ever since then I cannot get the Recently Played playlist to sync to the playlists folder on the iPod.  It is really frustrating since that is usually what I listen to in my car, it has all the songs that I am into right now without having to manually update the playlist all the time.  If someone can tell me what to do to get it to sync onto the playlists folder I will be forever grateful.  I have tried to manually sync it on there as well through the music tab on iTunes, but it still won't do it.  I even clicked off the Genius Playlist and it still shows up on my iPod.

  • When downloading updates from iTunes to my iPhone my playlists appear in reverse order with least played at the top. I just want the playlist to appear in the same order as my iTunes library. This seems to have changed after downloading iCloud

When dowloading updates from my iTunes library onto my iPhone
my playlists appear in reverse order with the least played at the top of the list
and most played at the end on the playlist.
Therefore I cant play my favourites in the order that I like to hear them.
This all changed when I recently downloaded the iCloud application.

    Hi Jim,
Is this temporary cache accessing my data when I play songs from it? As I mentioned in my previous post, I'm still able to listen to these songs even when my phone is in airplane mode and the download icon is still present next to said songs. This implies that the songs are already downloaded onto my phone even if I didn't opt to download them directly from the cloud -- they're on my phone because my phone was shuffling my library on a wifi network.

My ipod touch is not playing the songs on the playlist in the correct order.

You can redownload most iTunes purchases by:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store

Yeah - not really. Sorry - but you will need to get it fixed so you can back it up. You are going to want to Restore your new iPhone from that backup when you get it, so it will really be worth it.
As soon as you get your new iPhone, set up automatic iCloud backups, or if you don't have Wifi, then it is really important to get into the habit of backing your device up weekly to iTunes.
    Best of luck!

  • You used to be able to shuffle a playlist and see the order in which the songs would sync into your iPod.  I haven't been able to figure that out. Can anyone help me?

With your playlist in "List view", click on the header over the column of numbers all the way to the left.  This will then reveal the true playback (and sync) order.
However, the sort order in iTunes may not agree with the sort order on your device, but that is a separate issue and seems to have too many variables to go into here.

  • My iphone 4S will randomly shuffle my playlists regardless of what order I put them in.  It also just removes songs at random.  What is going on???

My  new iphone  4S is not keeping playlists in th order I sync them and will randomly shuffle them no matter how many times i rearrange them.  I don't think I have the shuffle setting on, but can't figure out why it shuffles, removes, and adds songs at will.  I am a Zumba instructor and need my playlists in a specific order.
    Thanks,

I'm having a similar problem with my iPhone 4s.  Just loaded all of my play lists onto it and it shuffles the order on some playlists but not others.  It is not a matter of shuffle being selected anywhere.  In fact when I connect my iPhone to my Mac and look my play lists in iTunes, they appear in the correct order.  When I view my playlists on my iPhone, some appear in a random order.  The suggestions to turn shuffle off have not helped since nowhere does shuffle appear to be on.  And I have the "shake to shuffle" turned off as well.  I listen to a lot of continuously mixed music so these randomizations of my playlists are very problematic.  I didn't have this problem at all with my iPod Touch. Should I just try deleting the troublesome playlists and reinstalling them?

  • Playlist synching out of order

My playlists are out of order on my iPad and iPhone.  In iTunes the playlist shows the way I want it (sorted by date added...last added shows first).  However when I open the playlist in either my iPad or iPhone they playlist order is completely messed up.  In fact, I can't figure out what the order is as it isn't date added, alphabetical, artist, etc.
I have the latest software on all devices and I use iCloud synching and iCloud matching but noticed this problem before I used iCloud but after I had upgrade to iOS5 and OSX 10.7.2.  Also, I have right moused clicked on the playlist in iTunes and selected "Copy To Play Order".
Does anyone know what to do?
    Thanks

Me too, on my ipod Touch only (correct on iTunes and correct on iPod Classic).  So irritating!  It's ALMOST in reverse order (least recent at the top, rather than most recent the way I want it), but then within an artist, it's in arbitrary order.    No fixes found yet.

  • Why won't my playlist load in the order I've chosen?

I've run into a problem today. (it's my first since purchasing)
I've been trying to get my playlist to play in the order I've chosen and it just won't. I've made sure to click and unclick shuffle on/off, play playlist once, repeat or 1 song....nothing seems to work. It's disappointing because it's actually a workout compilation I like and it should really play in order. (for intensity)
Do I need to Reset my player? Reinstall iTunes?
    Thanks for your help,

Specifics: I Imported a CD called Massive Dance Hits 2000 (disc 2)  It is In Order as it loads. Then, when trying to Sync playlist (which is In Order) onto the shuffle the tunes are out of order. (defeats the purpose of the compilation) Had a friend go through many different scenarios with me this evening; none of them worked. Also, this album is not available on iTunes or I would have just bought it. Should I just give up on this one CD? Perhaps it's because it is by Various Artists and iTunes/Shuffle doesn't know how to sync up when transferring. (?)

  • How can I get my itunes playlist to sync with ipad?

I have created a few playlists in iTunes.  When I attempt to drag and drop the playlist or sync the playlist with my iPad 2 I can see the playlist and songs on my iPad HOWEVER, they are greyed out with a dotted circle to the left of the song title.  And the songs won't play.  Anyonel have a solution for this?  Thanks.

Hi, I've exactly the same problem. I've one newly purchased iPad with Retina Di...Fi - Newest Version. During last 10 dyas I've tried with various options but "they (musics) are greyed out with a dotted circle to the left of the song title.  And the songs won't play. Seems an annoying problem to a long time iPod user. I look for a simple solution to this.

  • Why is the order of my music in my playlists in the opposite order?

I've ordered music in my playlists on iTunes to the date added, so that my newest music is at the top of the playlist. However, theyre ordered in the exact opposite order when I've synced these playlists onto my iPhone. It's really annoying to have to scroll right down to the bottom to find my latest music :/ I've also found that the music in my smart playlists and playlists which have been ordered with no preference i.e. the first column (#1,2,3,4,5) are in the right order, however. Really strange!

The name of the diirectory inside /Users cannot be changed by any reasonable method. But you can create a new directory in /Users, spelled to your liking, and move your files to it.
After copying your files to the new directory, you can either
    a) create a new User Account, or
    b) you can change your user account to point to the newly-created location. [This is how one moves Accounts to a different drive, so it is a well travelled road.]

  • How to keep a playlist in sync with iPhone over iCloud

I love being able to store all my music in the cloud with iCloud. The only problem is that I want to use iCloud to keep a selected playlist in sync with my iPhone because I only want about 500 of my 2000 songs stored on my iPhone. It is easy to do this if I use WiFi sync but I would like to be able to access my other songs when I am on Wifi through iCloud because really, thats what I'm paying for with iCloud. Has anyone found a work around to this issue?
    Thanks

With iTunes Match your music is simultaneously downloaded to your phone when you play it.  As soon as you play a song not on your playlist, it will be downloaded too.  There isn't a way at the present time to keep only certain songs on the phone, then only stream the rest.  Perhaps the ability to do this will be included in a future update.  If you would like to see this change you can let Apple know here: http://www.apple.com/feedback/icloud.html.

  • Genre sort in Browser, auto sync, sort order

I just updated to 3.1.1 and iTunes 9.0. Now Genre is missing in the browser. How can I get it back? Also none of my playlist sync in auto. I have to manually manage it. I rarely use it for music, just for listening to stories and podcasts, so it's important to have them in the correct order for listening, i.e. chapters. Now the playlist doesn't show up on the itouch sorted correctly.
    1. Doesn't have Genre in Browser. 2. Doesn't auto sync. 3. Sort order is messed up between iTunes and iTouch. 4. Is it caused by 3.1.1 or iTunes 9.0? Does anyone know how to fix these issues? I don't have an old download of iTunes 8 to uninstall 9 and reinstall 8. iTouch 3.1.1 can't be uninstalled. Shadow

iTunes 9 changed the browser to a column on the left side (by default), but you can go back to how it was on top, see the View/Column Browser menu. You can have multiple filters (Artist, Album, Composer, etc.) either as a column on the left, or across the top.

You have to be doing something wrong since auto-sync does work. Make sure your iPod is in auto-sync mode -- if you change the sync mode, make sure you click the "Apply" button -- if you don't, it won't change. If you're not syncing your entire library, then make sure that you've selected the playlists you want loaded onto the Touch.

Are you referring to the sort order within a playlist, or the sort order of all your playlist names? I know that the playlist name sorting has changed (again) such that punctuaion comes first, then letters, then numbers. If you're referring to the sort order of the items within a playlist, then it may be a bug -- there are reports of problems with the sorting of podcasts within playlists, so maybe the same is true for books?

    Not sure, could be either.

You can get down-rev versions of iTunes at sites like filehippo (there are others). Keep in mind though that your "iTunes Library.itl" file was changed with iTunes 9 and is not backward-compatible. You'll have to look for the old .itl file in your "Previous iTunes Libraries" folder (check the date of these .itl files). If you fid the .itl file from iTunes 8, just replace the current one and then uninstall iTunes as well as "Apple Mobile Device Services" and Quicktime, then install iTunes 8.
You can go back to a prior OS version on your Touch if you have the native file (you would if you previously did a firmware update, it stays on your computer). If you updated to 3.0 then you can go back to it by holding the SHIFT key as you click the Restore button (use the OPT key on a Mac) and then select the 3.0 version. You can't go back to 2.x in this manner, but there is a different way to go back to 2.x if you ever want to (won't go into that here).

  • Somy Bridge forgets to update playlist after sync - iTunes/Mac

    Hi,
I saw a similar thread in Z Ultra subforum, but decided to post it here as well, just in case the software development team focuses mainly on the software forum.
Setup: Mac OsX - iTunes - Sony Bridge - Z3 compact (All up to date).
When i sync a playlist, with sony bridge, from the iTunes, to the device for the first time, it copies the files to the device and creates a playlist file from the copied files or from the iTunes playlist for the device. All works well after that and when you open up playlists from the walkman app, you can see the playlist there with all the songs.
However if i modify the same playlist on the computer by adding more songs to it and open sony bridge and sync the existing playlist again - it syncs - and after syncing if i look from the walkman app that playlist, i see no modifications in the playlist just as nothing has been added or removed - items count is still the same as before syncing. Although if you look at the Recently Added section in the walkman app, you can see the news files have been added to the device - but they just wont show up in the playlist.
Technically what happens in the program level is that it forgets to update the playlist file on the android device after an already existing playlist gets synced / updated with new files. It adds the files to the device, but leaves an old playlist file to the device.
Current logic seems to be that if the playlist file already exists on the device, it assumes it has the neccessary playlist and all is OK, but it forgets that there might have been modifications to the already existing playlist and that the playlist file should be updated too.
Solution for the program would be to delete the old playlist file and create a new playlist file after the sync.

  • Sort a playlist in a special order

    Hello,
is ther a way to sort a playlist in the following order:
    First: Artist (ascending)
    Second: Title (ascending)
    Third: Duration (Decending)
How can i achive that ?
    Thanks Matthias

If only we had access to the SQL engine hiding inside iTunes it would be easy. However sorting 30,000 songs with vbScript would be painfully slow. If you can narrow things down so that you are working with say a few album artists at a time it might be practical. Looking at the iTunes COM SDK I can't seem to find a way to affect the *Play Order* of an existing playlist, however adding tracks to a new playlist in the order that you want should be possible. The script would need to gather the indexes of the selected tracks and the other properties you need for sorting into some kind of array, sort this array, and then construct the new playlist by adding the tracks in the given order. If you are in to writing scripts then you might want to look at my scripts page in case anything there gives you inspiration, otherwise I'll try to have a go at putting something together. SortDateAdded contains a sort method and Unconsolidated has a playlist building routine. It should be possible to automatically "uncheck" all but the longest track with each track name. You could then review the list in case you want to change things.
