Recognizing an iPod with Windows Vista

I have a new computer that came with Windows Vista. I have not been able to get iTunes to operate correctly for Windows Vista to recognize the USB connection to my iPod. Anyone have a patch or downloadable software suggestion to resolve this?

I finally figured I had nothing to lose--I'd just downloaded a new version of Real Player, which supposedly will work with iPods and Windows Me--and I let my computer format the iPod, hoping that would let it work with Windows again. Apparently not. Now it won't turn on--it's giving me the folder-and-exclamation-point icon. Resetting it didn't help, and I can't restore it because I can't install the software to my computer in the first place.
I suppose the only thing to do is borrow a friend's computer or something.

Unable to sync 30GB Ipod with Windows Vista

Hi! I just got a new laptop today - it has 64 bit Vista on it. I downloaded the 64 bit version of Itunes and was able to transfer my music to the computer into itunes. But it will not sync. The ipod is formatted with FAT 32 which is what I think maybe the problem but I'm not sure. Does anyone have any idea how to make this sync? Thanks!

This seems to be a really common problem with Vista. I have been trying for weeks to get it to work; sometimes it syncs a little, sometimes it doesn't. Sometimes it appears in the Devices list, sometimes it doesn't and sometimes it appears for a few seconds and then disappears. I find that, if I disable the Ipod Service and the ItunesHelper service and then restarts Itunes, I get a better, albeit still unreliable, connection but still rarely will it sync.
Tried it with Windows Firewall on, off and all points in between in terms of opening the requisite ports. Tried it with iTunes 7.2 and still no better. Tried resetting the Apple TV numerous times at various stages of this marathon.
What I have NOT tried yet is to completely remove iTunes 7.1.1 AND Quicktime and then reinstall everything and that will be tonight's exercise.
I am currently connecting and syncing quite happily from my girlfriend's Toshiba laptop so there is definitely no problem with the Apple TV.
I will post the results of my iTunes reinstallation attempt once I have it.
Has anyone got a working Vista implementation that we can discuss?

30G Video IPod and Windows Vista - Help!

I just recently bought a new computer equipped with Windows Vista. I have a 12" G4 iBook that was my main computer from which I ran my 30G Video iPod, and now I am wanting to sync my iPod with my new Windows computer, and this will be the only system I use with my iPod.
I realize there are many problems with compatibility of iTunes/iPods with Windows Vista.
My question is, barring the problems with iTunes, I downloaded the latest iTunes anyways and tried to use Yamipod to bring my 1600+ songs onto my computer from my iPod by bypassing iTunes. Problem is, my computer doesn't even recognize the iPod at all. iTunes does, but when I cancel the box asking me to reformat my iPod to Windows format and try to use Yamipod, Yamipod doesn't even recognize an iPod existing. I thought maybe it was just the program, so I tried about 4 others, but nothing. I also used the cd that came with my iPod and put the drivers onto this computer, but the actual computer still doesn't even recognize it plugged in.
Any ideas? Also, because a lot of my songs are in m4a format, how will that work if I am able to put them on this computer? Will I have to convert them all to mp3?

i) i can't be bothered to check the itunes release date, certainly it was out in 2001, which is several years before microsoft even figured out what to call the os formerly known as longhorn, let alone finished sawing off the pieces it couldn't make work
ii) the majority of people with portable music players use ipod/itunes, so it is for microsoft to conform with the majority and not make changes that impair the products used by the majority
so, by your own argument, it is microsoft's responsibility to maintain compatibility

IPod Touch is not recognized by iTunes on Window Vista

I have a laptop with Windows Vista Home Premium and I just can't get my ipod touch recognized by iTunes on this laptop, nevertheless it does recognize my iPod Nano 3rd gen. iTunes version is 7.7.0.43
If I connect the iPod Touch on another laptop with Windows XP and same iTunes version it is recognized and sync.
Is there any patch that I have to download?

The problem was that the AppleMobileDevice was not working, so I uninstalled iTunes and reinstalled it to get back the AppleMobileDevice.exe but then I started to have the following problem:
On opening iTunes the message "AppleMobileDeviceHelper has stopped working" repeatedly appears
I fixed it following this discussion:

Run AppleMobileDeviceHelper as an administrator.
1. Navigate to the C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\bin folder.
2. Right-click AppleMobileDeviceHelper.exe and choose Properties from the shortcut menu.
3. Click the Compatibilitiy tab.
4. Enable the checkbox "Run this program as an administrator".
5. Click Apply.

Ipod touch with windows vista

Hi,Im looking into geting the ipod touch,but I have read that the ipod touch does not work well with windows vista. I know the new itunes 7.5 just came out. Has that version fixed the problems with the ipod? Also what are the problems the ipod touch is haveing with vista. I have windows vista 32 bit OS. Thank you very much for your help.

Hey, yeah I have major problems syncing to Vista. The album artwork is assigned to the wrong songs or sometimes a chunk of the picture is not in the right place, some of my songs stop half way through the song then the iPod skips to the next song on the list. My movies periodically decide to crash and the only way to get past these spots is to skip ahead (which is very difficult on the iPod touch especially when the movie is long cause you dont want to miss too much) but yeah just letting you know that there ARE some issues with it not saying that yours will do the same but it might.

Trouble with itunes ipod and windows vista

I just got a new computer with windows vista home premium (32bit) and i am having trouble syncing my ipod with itunes.
when i connect the ipod it asks me if i want to scan and fix the drive, if i click continue without scanning it sometimes wont let me sync, and if it does it only gets about half my music on there before saying it is unable to write to it (unknown error 53)

I have a similar problem, with my new iPod Touch crashing an XP Professional setup. It's worth noting that the Apple article also talks about potential USB conflicts with other devices on the system that might have bad drivers. They say the solution, if that is the fault, is to make sure all your USB drivers are good. I'll try that, by a process of elimination, before re-installing iTunes (as I thought I had the latest version and I don't have Vista). I'll come back here later to report the outcome.

Im actually tilting it up where it cinnects to my iPod, not where it connects to my computer, and i have tried three(yes, 3) different cables, one of which i bought brand new. still nothing, and i've also tried different USB ports on my computer,....nothing. Could this simply be a hardware failure of somekind? maybe a physical problem...i mean, why would i have to tilt the cable in order for my computer to actually read my iPod? im looking at the USB connector on my iPod (maybe it's my imagination, not sure) it possible might be bent, the little metal part in the port.

DESPERATE! IPOD NOT SHOWING IN ITUNES WITH WINDOWS VISTA.

I recently bought a new Dell Dimension E520 which came with windows vista pre installed. I seem to be one of many people having problems with it!
Newest version of Itunes (7.1) is installed and working fine. When I plug my IPOD nano in however nothing happens. It is visible in the device manager on my PC but doesn't show in itunes.
I've been to the apple store and they said that the new itunes should fix the problem but it hasn't. they've checked my nano and it is fully up to date.
I know it is a driver problem but i have absolutely no idea what i'm looking for when i go to the support section on this website!
the reason I bought a new PC was that my old computer wouldn't download the new itunes and therefore i couldn't access the store or any songs bought from the store on my nano (plus it was 14 years old). it did however actually recognise my IPOD!
It's been nearly 6 months since i've been able to update my ipod with songs and i'm getting desperate!!!! please can anyone help??

iTunes does not yet support Windows Vista. There are numerous problems running iTunes on it. The latest release of iTuens 7.1 fixed some of them but not all.

If you have purchased songs from the iTunes Music Store, then those are pretty easy to transfer to your computer. You'll just need to follow [this instructions|http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=305465].
All your other songs (for example, those ripped from your CD's), you'll need to use any 3rd party program to transfer them to your iTunes library!
Some can also transfer your playlists, videos, ratings, podcast...

Go to the front page of the Store, and click Change Country. Make sure it is set to the country where you actually are.
Then you will be able to see everything that is for sale in your country, which, depending where you live, might or might not include music.

IPod and Windows Vista

Hi,
if i connect my iPod to my Windows Vista PC teh CPU usage goes up to 100%. The process svchost take nearly all the processortime.
iTunes and iPod are up to date.
I getting mad about that. With Win XP i don not have these probs.
Any ideas about that ?

I take it that you're a developer.
It is likely that your iPod may not work with Windows Vista (hasn't it still not been properly been released?) - anyway, Try the Microsoft Forums aswell.

You don't really need a driver to use a driver to get a Windows XP computer to work with an iPod. Same goes probably for the Windows Vista.
So, try getting the iPod Updater.
Restore & Update your iPod, then try it with iTunes.
Has your iPod been used with any other operating systems? e.g. Windows XP??? or is it just Windows Vista?

Error ~69 with Windows Vista?

I just purchased a new Gateway with Windows Vista to replace my Dell with XP. Ever since I purchased my Gateway, I am unable to sync any iTunes purchases or material imported from CDs to my iPod 30GB. I keep receiving the ~69 message "Unable to sync to iPod. An unknown error occurred. (~69)." Following this error, the iPod only seems to sync the songs that I've recently played on my iPod when it's been disconnected from my computer.
Is this a problem with my iPod, Vista, or some combination of the two? I do not see any songs that should be causing a problem, and my entire library synced with no problems on the Dell XP machine.

Unfortunately, I tried every solution on the page (including restoring) and it still doesn't work. I thought the problem was because of a bad video file that iTunes warned me to delete, but that doesn't work at all.
There has to be an issue with Vista. The iPod worked just fine on my Dell with Windows XP. As soon as I switched computers, it stopped working. What issues does iPod have with Vista?
