Recommendations for Oracle server regarding installation of Hyperion S9

Hello,
Can you please tell me where I can find some information concerning (hardware) recommendations for an Oracle server to be used to host Hyperion system 9 products?
In other words, I would like to know the recommendations for configuring a machine with Oracle 10g.
Many thanks!
Best Regards,
Andy

  • Hardware recommendations for Oracle server

    I'm looking for hardware recommendations for a new Oracle database server. I'd like to have Active/Passive redundancy, so I imagine an external storage device is necessary. Does Oracle publish any hardware recommendations based on budget? I'm not sure what our budget would be but I can assume two database servers and a single external storage device in the $20k range.

    Oracle does not publish any recommendations at all.
    If they did, the recommendations would be based on load and expected performance characteristics, not based on budget.
    Your best bet is to chose a vendor (Sun, IBM, HP, Dell) and ask them. Each of those vendors has a group that specializes in answering this kind of question.

  • Note 830576 - Parameter recommendations for Oracle 10g

    hi all DBA experts.
    I am not good familiar with Oracle database while i read a Note 830576 - Parameter recommendations for Oracle 10g. in which SAP General Recommendation:
    You should delete obsolete initialization parameters from the profile.
    To determine which obsolete parameters are currently set, proceed as follows:
    SQL> SELECT NAME FROM V$OBSOLETE_PARAMETER WHERE ISSPECIFIED = 'TRUE';
    when i execute above command then result is no rows selected
    while there are many parameters in above SAP Note which are already obsolete and not set in initSID.ora file.
    for exp.  the parameter OPTIMIZER_INDEX_COST_ADJ  is showing
    #### OPTIMIZER MODE
    #optimizer_index_cost_adj = 10
    as you know that this parameter is very important regarding System Performance.
    now please guide me . I have to set these parameter or no need while there is not showing any parameters against obsolete command.
    waiting you valuable reply.

    hi both,
    thanks for knowledge sharing with me other SDN users,
    Dear Orkun,
    Ok. At this stage, I can recommend you that apply what they have suggested,
    in the message. So, you already did a part of it by configuring
    Oracle parameters, already.
    SAP support sent me this file (PRD_Parameters)

  • Is it possible to query software inventory report for Oracle SQL developer installation?

    Hi all
    My company requires to generate a report of all kinds of Oracle database access tool. I can find Toad installation from Add/Remove Program and therefore can query for Toad.
    However, Oracle SQL developer is using Java. I cannot see an entry for Oracle SQL developer from Add/Remove Program. Is there a way to query inventory for Oracle SQL developer installation?
    Thanks a lot.
    Regards
    Lic

    You might be able to use software inventory to report on the version of sqldeveloper.exe.
    As the app looks like just a zip you extract to a custom location that might be one method.

  • Parameter recommendations for Oracle 10g?

    Hello,
    This note 830576 contains sap`s recommendations for Oracle 10g, but the some parameter information during EarlyWatch Alert do not follow Sap standard recommendations Are not in that note.

  • Problem installing ODAC for Oracle Server 11g

    I have installed Oracle Server 11g (OS:Windows XP)
    Questions:
    1. I tried installing ODAC for Oracle Server 11.1.0.6.21, then its giving the following error message: "Oracle data access components can only be installed over an existing oracle server 11g".
    2. We have a Monorail application running on NHibernate using ODP.NET. It's working perfectly when I run it on my Visual Studio 2008.
    But, when I tried to host this application, it gave me the following error message: "The provider is not compatible with the version of Oracle client"
    Please suggest how to resolve these issues.

    Hi
    Could that be related to the %ORACLE_HOME% ?
    I've read that on the ODAC installation guide:
    On a machine without Visual Studio .NET 2003 installed, ODAC products now work if they are installed in a new Oracle Home
    So it should be performed in a new %ORACLE_HOME% and not the same as the database. Please change that and retry.

    On your second question :
    Q: I get an error: "Unable to load DLL (OraOps.dll)". How do I fix this?
    A: First, ensure the OraOps.dll file is in your Oracle bin directory (e.g. d:\oracle\ora92\bin\). Next, check that your Oracle bin directory is in the Windows system path. If either of these are not present, re-install ODP.NET. Depending on the application, you may have to restart the application (e.g. Windows Service) or reboot the computer (e.g. ODP.NET install makes changes to the PATH) for ODP.NET installation to be complete. If your ODP.NET installation is still not working, you may be running into this problem.

  • Is RAID 5 not recommended for Oracle database ?

    - I am planning to install Oracle database
    Here are the specs:
    - Dell PowerEdge T610 server
    - Windows 2008 R2 (64-bit )
    - 24 GB memory
    - Oracle 10g database (64-bit database)
    - Our database is for an ERP based client server application
    - Will have around 35-45 users
    - Will have around 150-200 transaction per day ( 8AM-5PM) only database
    - database would be around 10-15GB (data files)
    Now I am planning to buy the hardware server, I heard that RAID 5 is not recommended for Oracle database.
    Is it true ?
    What do you recommended for Oracle database ? RAID 5 (or) RAID 1

    johnpau2013 wrote:
    I heard that RAID 5 is not recommended for Oracle database.
    Is it true ?Kind off... as Oracle (as per the RAC Starter Kits for example) explicitly recommends SAME - as in Stripe And Mirror Everything.
    This is a combination of RAID1 and RAID0.
    However, you will also get whitepapers from storage vendors like EMC in partnership with Oracle, that explains how to configure and use RAID5 storage and how effective this is. And as some will tell you, RAID5 can work just fine with Oracle... and some others will grimace and tell you how bad an idea that is from personal experiences.
    In a nutshell - RAID5 requires a parity calculation on each write. That is a very expensive overhead if that calculation impacts the fwrite() (file write) command of a process writing data to disk. It significantly slows down the write operation.
    However, if that parity calculation is done asynchronously and does not effect the elapsed time for a fwrite(), then a fwrite() to RAID5 is as fast or as slow as it would be to RAID10 for example.
    Unsure how many modern storage system supports off-loading the parity calculation and not impacting the write I/O call. This can be done using ASICs (Application Specific Integrated Circuits), specialised s/w on the storage server, etc.
    Whatever you put in place - test the RAID config thoroughly up front and ensure that performance is up to specs. There's a utility called fio (<i>Flexible I./O</i>) written by a Linux kernel hacker that works for Oracle. It is an excellent utility to use to generate and test I/O - but it is Linux and Unix based.
    Any specific reason using Windows? Linux is by far a more predominant 64bit operating system than Windows, and has significant higher market share in Oracle RDBMS than Windows. Given the fact that over 93% of the 500 fastest computer systems on this planet runs Linux, I'm always kind of amazed that some would still use Windows as a server-side o/s for Oracle.

  • What is the best platform for Oracle Server?

    What is the best platform for Oracle Server?
    What is your criterion?
    Thanks,
    Somsak B.

    I believe that Oracle is developed and coded on a Solaris
    platform and then ported to other operating systems. If that is
    the case, you can assume that Solaris is the best platform or at
    least the safest in terms of performance and risk.
    If anyone knows anything to the contrary, pls correct me.

  • Any equivalent for "Oracle9i Database: Seminar Series for Oracle Server"?

    Dear all
    I'm interesting on the Oracle course named "Oracle9i Database: Seminar Series for Oracle Server" - [D16665GC10|http://education.oracle.co.uk/html/oracle/68US/D16665GC10.htm]

Yes, those are excellent materials. A lot of the material is covered in the DBA 1 & 2 courses, but not as focused and not as 'in depth'. I encourage that you write directly to Oracle University and ask them to upgrade the seminar. (Tell them I'd be happy to update/deliver it. ;-))
    An alternative, and possibly even better, is to watch for (or ask for) a local presentation by Jonathan Lewis and/or Cary Millsap (Method R)

  • Help go count hardware for oracle server

    Hi,
    I need to count hardware for Oracle server;
    users obout 10000 people at the same time.
    What memory(RAM) and proceesos frequens(MHz) should be?
    Where to find information about it?

    You should consider that if 10000 users will be concurrently in the database, and if at least 2m ram will be consumed by an oracle server process (just to start), then 20000mb ram will be required (at least) to support 10,000 oracle processes at the same time, about 20Gb for users, next, consider the amount of required SGA memory (not an exact value, as it depends on the database profile, DWH, OLTP, Hybrid). plus the processes for the regular OS operation.
    This is not a small application, have you thought about growth? You should be thinking about scaleability. May be not a huge machine, but a cluster of more affordable machines that will grow with your needs.

  • Dynamic column name for Oracle Server Procedure

    hello,
    May be it's not a right place for my question, but I hope that some of you can help me.
    I have source table A that has data of the same kind in 62 fields, let's say employee count for 62 departments. I do some processing with these counts(sum(emp_count) of the same departments for different locations) and store these counts in the variables EC1, EC2, EC3 .. EC62.
    Then I need to insert them into my table that has very simple structure let's say table B (dept_no Number(3),
    emp_count Number(6))
    I want to do a loop and use dynamic colunm EMP_COUNT, something like this:
    FOR k in 1..62 LOOP
    EMP_COUNT := 'EC'&#0124; &#0124;k;
    IF EMP_COUNT <> O THEN
    insert into B
    VALUES ( K , EMP_COUNT);
    END IF;
    END LOOP;
    I understand that I need to take a Value of my dynamic colunm EMP_COUNT. Is it possible to do in Oracle Server Procedure? Any idea?
    Any help will be apreciated.

    After having worked in other environments where you can manipulate data records with postitional parameters, Oracle can be frustrating because it demands the explicit use of field names in DML/Select statements. A way around this is to use DBMS_SQL or Dynamic Sql. I have used DBMS_SQL to create and execute dynamic statements with great success. Since you are creating, compiling, and running a dynamic block every time you execute your procedure, this is not recommended except in the rare instances when there is no better way around it.
    Oracle8i introduces native dynamic SQL, an alternative to DBMS_SQL. Using native dynamic SQL, you can place dynamic SQL statements directly into PL/SQL blocks.
    In most situations, native dynamic SQL can replace DBMS_SQL. Native dynamic SQL is easier to use and performs better than DBMS_SQL.
    Example of Dynamic SQL<------------------------
    BEGIN
    -- bulk fetch the list of office locations
    SELECT location BULK COLLECT INTO loc_array
    FROM offices;
    -- for each location, give a raise to employees with the given 'job'
    FOR i IN loc_array.first..loc_array.last LOOP
    dml_str := 'UPDATE emp_' &#0124; &#0124; loc_array(i)
    &#0124; &#0124; ' SET sal = sal * (1+(:raise_percent/100))'
    &#0124; &#0124; ' WHERE job = :job_title';
    EXECUTE IMMEDIATE dml_str USING raise_percent, job;
    END LOOP;
    Look for more information on dynamic SQL by
    searching for DBMS_SQL.
    Good Luck

  • Hardware sizing recommendations for B2B Server

    My customer Welch Foods Inc. is on 11i Oracle eBusiness Suite and is planning to uptake the latest 1Sync integration features in the PIM product. For out-of-box AS2 connectivity with 1Sync - they are planning to use Oracle B2B Integration Server 10.1.2.3.
    They have an average transaction volume of 30 transactions per month. One time - initial load of 20,000 transactions.
    Based on the above estimates, they are looking for hardware sizing recommendations for the B2B server.
    Your assistance is much appreciated.
    Asmi Maharishi
    SDM for Welch Foods.

    Thanks for your reply!
    Here are the responses to your queries:
    1. Is B2B instance going to run alone in a box
    Yes, B2B instance will run alone on a box.2. what will be the size of message
    Messages can be anywhere from 5-20 KB3. how many messages will be part of a transaction.
    It should be 2 - Registration and publication. But sometimes it depends on how successful the first “registration” goes. Typically we get one or two errors that the users go into PLM, correct and re-send.However, Looking at your current requirement, 30 transaction per month, we can easily address in a 4 GB machine itself.
    Additionally, Oracle B2B supports 10+ messages per second in 32GB, 4 processor machine.
    Memory suggested above is 4GB, does that take into account memory used by the 10G App server foot print or this is only to take care of messages? Also, how many Processors (Risk IBM) will be needed?
