Reconfi. the wrt54g router

A few days ago I had a power outage and lost connection to the Verizon DSL, but they got me back on after I removed the router, and they reconfig. the modem.  They said I would need to have Linksys do the same so sent an e-mail and after receiving the reply, was confused and called them.  After trying to understand the operater (couldn't) I ask for a supv.  The English was a little better but put me on hold for 10 minutes and then got dropped.  After looking over the web site, thought I'd try this.  They say disconnect the modem and connect from the comp. to the router and then get on Netscape or Internet Exployer and---but the router will not let me on the internet.  Any help appreciated.  John Hipsher

well...obviously u won't have any internet connection because the modem is not connected to the router and also the router is not configured....
follow the steps given below :
1) ask verizon to "bridge" the DSL modem... ask them for the username and password
2) on the computer wired to the router , open IE and go to http://192.168.1.1 . logon using the "admin" password .. once on the set up page , click on "Mac Address Clone" subtab , enable it and click clone your pc's mac...click save settings and do a power cycle ..
3) click on "basic setup" tab and select the internet connection type as PPPoE , enter the username and password which is goven by verizon...save the settings
4) click on "status" tab and check the internet ip add.
once u have a correct ip add , u should be online....

try changing the router's MTU for wired and change the advanced wireless settings on the router as well.

  • Can you remove the antennas off of a WRT54G router?

Can you take them off? How hard is removing one of them? What do you need to do to remove them?

It depends on what version of the WRT54G router you have.
Version 8               -  antennas cannot be removed
Version 7               -  not sure about this one
Version 1 thru 6  -  antennas are removeable (should be fairly easy).

  • Can I use the WVC54GCA Camera with my WRT54G router?

I have the WRT54G Router - 2.4GHz. Can I hook up a couple of WVC54GCA cam's to my network? My router was not listed in the "routers this cam works well with" section.
    Thanks.

    It should work fine.

  • Computer won't detect WRT54G router

I got the WRT54G router. I plugged the router into the power source, then i plugged the the cable from the modem to the router, then the cable from the computer to the router. All four lights were lit. Then the computer would never detect the router. I tried plugging in and out, and the same problem. All the cable were in the right places. I'm guessing it has to do with my computer itself rather than the router. I have Windows XP

okay...first off check the physical connection, make sure that computer is connected directly to the no. 1 or no. 2 ethernet port of the router...click on start >> run >> cmd >> type ipconfig and hit enter, find out the IP address and try pinging to default gateway...if you are getting any replies, let me know the ISP details, so that i can tell you step by step configuration of the router...

  • No signal through linksys wrt54g router

my internet signal is no longer going through the wrt54g router - don;t know why.
i.e. no wireless handheld or computer and no ethernet when going through the router.
If I bypass the router the internet is fine, with the ethernet cable
I tried shutting everything down with power disconnect for periods of time, then bring everything back to power.
settings in linksys setup 192.168.1.1 look ok as far as I know; signal lights on router and modem are normal; settings in mac system prefs look normal also.
    Suggestions?

  • Problems with the WRT54GS

    Hello everyone!
I've just bought the WRT54GS router and am having some difficoultys with it. I've managed to get it up and running with the CD, that came along within the package. And the first impresion was WOW. Compared to my previous router, this is lightning fast.
Ok, to the problems. My internet freezes quite often now. It's like its loading a page, but nothing happens. Doesnt even open up the home page or go to the router control panel. It really gets anoying, becouse it happens quite often. The various downloading programs like nTorrent are running nicely in the background... !?
The next questin is the range of this routers. My previous router didnt have enough signal to reach my brother's room on the other side of the apartment, and it's not a big apartment. But, neither does this router. How can that be? Could it be something in the walls? When I put the laptop next to the router, the connect is instantenious and the internet works like a charm, but just 10 meters away... it doesnt eve find the signal.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Connect your PC directly tot eh modem and see if your web pages are still slow to load like you described.  Now the Signal can be boasted with High gain antennas or even a range extender.  If your PC still acts sluggish and the web is slow to load then clean out unwanted or unneeded programs, clean out your Temp folder, and Temp Internet files/cookies and try it again.  I like Ad-aware for cleaning out spyware and tracking cookies and maintain my PC's everyweek.  If your PC loads up fast like before then check your routers firmware and upgrade if needed, power cycle the router then reconfigure it.  That should clean out the cob-webs in the routers RAM and speed things up a bit.

  • Seeing Vista resources using a wrt54g router

I currently have 2 wireless xp machines that work fine sharing resources through the wrt54g router.  My wired vista machine (through the wrt54g router) can see the 2 xp machines but the xp machines can not see the vista machine.  The 2 xp machines the network name is "krizmanic" (that is the name of our wireless network) on the vista machine the network name is "network" (don't know where that came from).
How can I get the wireless xp machines to see the resources on  the wired vista machine?  Do I need to change the network name of the vista machine (if so how do I change the name)?
    Thanks

  • MacBook Pro crashes my Linksys WRT54G router

I've seen this issue been mentioned as a post in another thread, but I wanted to open a post specifically about this.
When I connect wirelessly to my Linksys WRT54G v6 router (using no encryption), it eventually brings down my router (usually within 5-10 minutes) and becomes unresponsive. I can't access the web admin interface, and other computers connected to the router lose their internet connection as well.
    I've tried the following:
    - Upgraded the Linksys firmware to the latest version
    - UP-to-date on Apple Software update (Mac OS X 10.4.8)
    - Set the wireless beacon interval to 50
    - Turned off the weather widget
    - Set MTU lower
    - Pinging a remote location every 8 seconds (using ping -i 8 www.google.com)
Anyone have a similar problem? Anyone found a solution?
MacBook Pro (Core 2 Duo 2.16 GHz)   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Well Zebra1, some of us are cost-conscious and have
existing setups at home we'd like to leverage.
I think that most of us on this message board would concur.
Maybe I'm just not worthy enough to join the
Apple-snob crowd because I can't blindly spend close
to $200 for something that can be had for less than
half the price (and already paid for)
This is my only gripe with these boards - folks seem to recommend the most expensive solution, and then slam those who recommend less expensive, but still practical, solutions (especially if they are non-Apple). Logically, it makes no sense, but the more expensive option seems to almost always be the one recommended.
Airport extreme base stations may be nice, but they are not without their problems (check the networking section on these boards); it's hard to justify the expense just to get a white box with an Apple logo on it, especially when functionally equivalent routers are available at 1/2 to 1/3 the price.
I'd hardly call Linksys a "two-bit" company. The WRT54G router is one of the most popular WiFi routers out there, and was rock-solid stable for many years. Apple should strive to make sure that their wireless products interoperate well with these devices, due to their popularity. Plus, a bit of a reality check here: even if a person gets an Airport Express base station at home, they won't have one at work, at school, at the coffee shop, etc.
When a $2000 laptop doesn't work with a wireless router that works with every PC laptop in the company, it isn't the router that gets criticized, it's the Mac.
As for alternatives, Apple is hardly the only solution; my D-Link DIR-625 works flawlessly with all of my computers, including my Macs, and I paid < $50 US for it. You need to add more than a USB port and Apple logo to justify that extra $150 US.

  • WRT54G Router Install

After using the enclosed CD install program with my WRT54G router I am unable to add another device (a PC) to the network. I get an error message stating that I don't have a wired connection to the router (although I not only have a wired connection to the WRT54G router, the wired connection to the internet (via a DSL modem) did, in fact, work fine.
I'm running Windows XP. The network, pre Linksys router install, was as follows: an ethernet crossover cable between the desktop PC and a XP laptop PC. Printer sharing was enabled on the desktop PC.
The phone support kept cycling me through the sequence run -> cmd -> ipconfig and then asking what IP address was under LAN. But there is no LAN. Unfortunately, the window would show only a Network Bridge with the Default Gateway 192.168.1.1 .
So, how do I get the WRT54G up and running and add the laptop to the network? Is the current network setup with the Windows LAN wizard interfering with the router network install?

First of all ...delete the Ethernet  or network bridge from network connections .....after that try this link .........

  • No Internet when connected to wrt54g router

I've seen that I'm not the only person to have this problem, unfortunately it doesn't appear that the question is answered satisfactorily in the forum. My laptop was connecting fine to an ambient wireless network in my apt building (yes I had wired internet but the computer would say "Wireless Connection Found!" or somesuch, so I know it was connecting to something). Eventually someone either lost the connection or secured it, so I lived with the wired connection for a while. Then a friend of mine gave me the WRT54G router & wished me luck. I have had nothing but trouble with this router - my computer says that it is connected to the router, I can even use the browser utility to do things like upgrade the firmware and change my settings. My computer works FINE with the wired connection, but the minute I try to route it through the wireless router, Internet is history. I have Verizon DSL, I would love to connect to my service wirelessly so I can listen to internet radio in other rooms without creating a massive safety hazard by stringing Ethernet cable through my entire house. I've tried everything that I could find online, including downloading a network diagnostics tool, but nothing is helping. I've done everything your site says, everything in the user guide, even things friends suggested to me. No luck. Any ideas? I'm almost ready to throw the router into traffic!

Thanks for the links, but these are both things I've looked into, and don't understand. I'm something of a newb when it comes to technical stuff on computers - I can use them, and screw around successfully with some of the system stuff, but unless someone explains to me what each odd abbreviation does, I'm lost. I've done the ipconfig /all in command prompt and come up with a bunch of stuff that I'm not sure will help me, I've played around in the router's actual configuration mode, it connects to my computer, and has the Internet light on, just my computer won't go online with the wireless router connected (with or without wires attached). It's like there's a little wall inside the router that won't connect my computer to the DSL modem. DSL modem works fine - all cables work fine, internet works without the wireless router in place. There's just something not connecting somewhere, and I don't know what. Everything externally is perfect. Everything internally SHOULD be perfect (everything's supposed to be automatically configured, right? Usually?). It's just not working.

  • Wrt54GS router and Wrt54GS wireless adapter on Xbox 360

Totally new in the wireless router business, I bought the Wrt54GS router and the Wrt54GS adapter to connect my Xbox 360.
I installed the router with the cd and connected my pc on the router with a fixed ethernet cable.
    So far everything working fine.
Then connected the wireless adapter on the Xbox 360, but it seems like the Xbox 360 doesn't recognise the Wrt54GS adapter.
    What did i do wrong?

Do you have wireless PC's ? are they able to go online ?
enable network security and also change the beacon to 50 and the RTS and fragmentation threshold by 40 each under the advanced wireless settings.

  • DDNS service on a WRT54GS router

Has anyone been able to user the DDNS service on a WRT54GS router?
Message Edited by sshahir on 12-27-2007 06:16 PM

    Hello oook,
    Thank you for your reply.
I have used the auto detect IP address (65.95.79.113) recommended (by LinkSys on the Setup/DDSN tab and dyndsn.com web page) to associate the host name initially prior to configure my router DDSN. In other words, first, I have associated the host name (http://sshahir.dyndns.org) to the recommended auto detect IP address (65.95.79.113), and then, I have successfully been able to configure DDNS on the WRT54GS router (according to the message appears on the Setup/DDSN tab). I believe my router DDNS doesn’t work properly regardless the successful DDNS configuration message because the IP address assigned to the host name hasn’t been changed and updated since then, and I cannot browse the web server located behind the router.
Have you assigned a static IP address to your host name (i.e. hostname.dyndsn.com)? If not, please let me know what IP address you used to associate with the host name prior to configure your router DDSN? Has your router DDSN been able to update the IP address associated with the registered host name? If you have used the same IP address (65.95.79.113) initially, and the DDSN works properly, please let me know the firmware version you are using on your router.
    Thank you,
    sshahir

  • Wrt54gs router to internet cable modem connection drop

With the wrt54gs router set at auto dhcp and mostly on default settings, after some time of inactivity the connection between the router and internet cable modem drops out.  That is, when there is no activity (no transmission to/from internet) the connection drops and the wireless connections shows "local only."  Any suggestions/comments on why this is so?  Thanks!

Have you tried to connect the Modem to the computer and checked if you are facing the same problem or not?
On your Router setup page, change the MTU size from AUTO to Manual and change the Size from 1500 to 1350 and click on Save Settings..... Then click on the Wireless tab and below Set the Radio Band to Standard-20MHz and change the Standard channel to 11-2.462GHz...Wireless SSID broadcast should be Enabled and then click on Save Settings...
Click on the sub tab under Wireless "Advanced Wireless Settings"
Change the Beacon Interval to 75,Change the Fragmentation Threshold to 2304,Change the RTS Threshold to 2304 and Click on Save Settings...
Now see if you can locate your Wireless Network and attempt to connect...
