Reconnect policy with MySQL failing because of autoCommit error

This related to this issue, but I didn't see any responses to it: Reconnecting a dead connection from a UnitOfWork commit - Autocommit error
I'm testing with MySQL 4.1 and I have a reconnect policy that does the following (I believe this is a pretty standard approach):
session.setExceptionHandler( new ExceptionHandler() {
public Object handleException(RuntimeException exception) {
     if (exception instanceof DatabaseException) {
dbex.getAccessor().reestablishConnection(dbex.getSession());
However, when it reestablishes the connection (and I have traced this and can verify that this code is executing and a reconnect is performed), I get the following error for any updates:
Internal Exception: java.sql.SQLException: Can't call rollback when autocommit=trueError Code: 0
at oracle.toplink.exceptions.DatabaseException.sqlException(DatabaseException.java:277)
at oracle.toplink.internal.databaseaccess.DatabaseAccessor.basicRollbackTransaction(DatabaseAccessor.java:1090)
at oracle.toplink.internal.databaseaccess.DatasourceAccessor.rollbackTransaction(DatasourceAccessor.java:486)
at oracle.toplink.internal.databaseaccess.DatabaseAccessor.rollbackTransaction(DatabaseAccessor.java:1075)
at oracle.toplink.publicinterface.Session.basicRollbackTransaction(Session.java:377)
I only have this problem with the MySQL JDBC drivers. I can continue to read normally, but I can't perform any transactions.
This isn't so much of a question about MySQL specifically, but rather a question about how reestablishConnection() connects to the database differently from my initial login using DatabaseLogin. Obviously, I don't have this error connecting normally. I only get it after a reconnect is applied.
Specific questions are: Is there another handler I can add to ensure JDBC Connections returned by ServerSession are always setAutoCommit(false)? Am I reestablishing the JDBC connections incorrectly?
Nate

Nate,
This does appear to be MySQL JDBC specific but is most likely related to a general issue.
When the connection drops and you receive the notification through the exception handler I would typically recommend looking at the session in us (isUnitOfWork) or the query type (isWriteObjectQuery) to see if the operation that failed was involved in a transaction (UnitOfWork commit).
In these transaction cases you need to do more then just re-connect and retry. You need to ensure after reconnection that an application exception is raised so the UnitOfWork operation(s) can be retried completely. I would simply add to this case to ensure that the JDBC connection is put back in a state where it can be managed properly.
There is no special operation or any case I know of where any special auto-commit needs to be set on a connection after it has dropped and before it is re-connected.

    Hi quodd,,
We are sorry for the issue being faced by you. I need some information from you so that I take further steps:
    1. Which Adobe product are you using Acrobat or Adobe reader- what is the complete version?
    2. How are you opening and saving the PDF, the exact workflow?
Are you doing it from within Adobe Reader/Acrobat application or opening it from browser, doing changes and saving it using browser itself.
    3. Can you try to save a PDF to library with Custom template and managed metadata columns using browser directly.
    4. Please verify that columns name do not contain spaces or some other special characters.
Can you try to save PDF to library with Custom template and just a single managed metadata column  with a simple name
    Thanks,

  • Adobe Lens Profile Creator - ERROR (Detect corners failed because file reading errors ocurred)

    1) I have successfully created a lens profile for a Nikon AF Micro Nikkor 40mm 2.8 lens used in a Nikon D5200 Camera. For this I converted the raw .nef files to .DNG first using Adobe's DNG Converter.
    2) When trying to create another lens profile using the EXACT SAME .DNG files as posted in 1), I am no longer able to create a lens profile because of the message "Detect corners failed because file reading errors ocurred". I am also unable to create any other lens profile using different photos.
    3) I have also tried using a fresh install of Adobe Lens Profile Creator in another mac and I get the exact same error.
    4) I AM ABLE to create a lens profile if I use .jpg files (generated from the same raw .nef files as mentioned) but this doesn't help because then the profiles don't show up when trying to open a raw file in Adobe Camera Raw.
Please help as this is exasperating.
    Thank you.

Thanks! I had the same error message in Adobe Lens Profile Creator 1.0.4 for OSX and I found the problem to be the letter ö in the folder name for the DNGs. The lens is an old ISCO-Göttingen and the progress stopped at 2% with the mentioned error message. Changed the folder name and now it works!

  • Uninstall Elements 6 failed because of javascript error

I recently upgraded to Mac OS X Mountain Lion and was informed that I needed to uninstall and reinstall Photoshop Elements 6. The Setup application could not be opened, however, because of Javascript errors (according to the error message). I couldn't find an uninstall item for Elements 6 anywhere on my hard drive. (My iMac is a late 2009 model.) How should I proceed?

The uninstaller is the installer. Find your original installation media and start like you're going to install PSE. When you come to the screen where you formerly chose Install Components, choose Remove Components.
However, do you remember if you had PSE set to run in Rosetta? If you didn't turn that off before upgrading you have a different set of issues to work through.

  • ADDS role configuration with DCPromo failed , rc = 42

    Hi,
i'm trying to build a Domain Controller (Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1) using MDT 2012.

"Apply Network Settings" Task to apply a fixed ip configuration to the machine.
"Install Roles and Features" Task to install ADDS
"Configure ADDS" Task to configure ADDS
The task sequence itself is working fine till it comes to the "Configure ADDS" Step. Here it fails showing me the following error code:

Please help me with this issue, i use gcc-3.3.2 and used both GNU make and the "make" shipped with solaris, both gave the same result.
I installed Mysql as a pkg and didn't compile it from source.
    Thanks in advance.

"ld: warning: file /opt/mysql/mysql/lib/libmysqlclient.a(libmysql.o): wrong ELF class: ELFCLASS64Usually this kind of error is an indication that both 32- and 64-bit object files are being used in building the application. Use all 32-bit objects or 64-bit objects - please do not mix them during compilation.
If building from scratch is not mandatory for you, you can try installing postfix {and other applications, libraries, ..} with the help of Blastwave's 'pkg-get'. Some instrustions are at: http://technopark02.blogspot.com/2005/06/solaris-installing-appspackages-with.html

  • Intel-based iMac stuck in grey screen with spinning wheel. SMC::smcReadKeyAction ERROR THOP kSMBadArgumentError(0x89)

    Hi guys,
since yesterday my Intel-Based iMac doesn't boot normally, its stuck in grey screen with a spinning wheel.
Its an Intel-based iMac 21.5'' purchased in 2011, and i recently (2 months ago) upgraded it to Mavericks.
-2 weeks ago, i installed smcFanControl app
-Tried start up in Safe Mode by holding Shift but its not working. i think i hear fans are working more than they were before the problem occurs.
-entered Single User Mode and i get an error
SMC ::smcReadKeyAction ERROR THOP kSMCBadArgumentError(0x89) fKeyHashTable=0x0xffffff8029fa1000
-followed some instructions found online, but can execute the correct commands in SingleUserMode
tried to remove FanControl as explained here: http://apple.stackexchange.com/questions/110667/errorr-kernel-smcsmcreadkeyactio n-in-console
any ideas what may caused this and how can i fix this?
    Thanks in advance

Take each of these steps that you haven't already tried. Stop when the problem is resolved.
    Step 1
The first step in dealing with a startup failure is to secure the data. If you want to preserve the contents of the startup drive, and you don't already have at least one current backup, you must try to back up now, before you do anything else. It may or may not be possible. If you don't care about the data that has changed since the last backup, you can skip this step.
There are several ways to back up a Mac that is unable to start. You need an external hard drive to hold the backup data.
         a. Start up from the Recovery partition, or from a local Time Machine backup volume (option key at startup.) When the OS X Utilities screen appears, launch Disk Utility and follow the instructions in this support article, under “Instructions for backing up to an external hard disk via Disk Utility.” The article refers to starting up from a DVD, but the procedure in Recovery mode is the same. You don't need a DVD if you're running OS X 10.7 or later.
    b. If Step 1a fails because of disk errors, and no other Mac is available, then you may be able to salvage some of your files by copying them in the Finder. If you already have an external drive with OS X installed, boot from it. Otherwise, if you have Internet access, follow the instructions on this page to prepare the external drive and install OS X on it. You'll use the Recovery installer, rather than downloading it from the App Store.
    c. If you have access to a working Mac, and both it and the non-working Mac have FireWire or Thunderbolt ports, start the non-working Mac in target disk mode. Use the working Mac to copy the data to another drive. This technique won't work with USB, Ethernet, Wi-Fi, or Bluetooth.
    d. If the internal drive of the non-working Mac is user-replaceable, remove it and mount it in an external enclosure or drive dock. Use another Mac to copy the data.
    Step 2
If the startup process stops at a blank gray screen with no Apple logo or spinning "daisy wheel," then the startup volume may be full. If you had previously seen warnings of low disk space, this is almost certainly the case. You might be able to start up in safe mode even though you can't start up normally. Otherwise, start up from an external drive, or else use the technique in Step 1b, 1c, or 1d to mount the internal drive and delete some files. According to Apple documentation, you need at least 9 GB of available space on the startup volume (as shown in the Finder Info window) for normal operation.
    Step 3
Sometimes a startup failure can be resolved by resetting the NVRAM.
    Step 4
If you use a wireless keyboard, trackpad, or mouse, replace or recharge the batteries. The battery level shown in the Bluetooth menu item may not be accurate.
    Step 5
If there's a built-in optical drive, a disc may be stuck in it. Follow these instructions to eject it.
    Step 6
Press and hold the power button until the power shuts off. Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed to start up, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Use a different keyboard and/or mouse, if those devices are wired. If you can start up now, one of the devices you disconnected, or a combination of them, is causing the problem. Finding out which one is a process of elimination.
    Step 7
If you've started from an external storage device, make sure that the internal startup volume is selected in the Startup Disk pane of System Preferences.
Start up in safe mode. Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a Fusion Drive or a software RAID, you can’t do this. Post for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know the login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
When you start up in safe mode, it's normal to see a dark gray progress bar on a light gray background. If the progress bar gets stuck for more than a few minutes, or if the system shuts down automatically while the progress bar is displayed, the startup volume is corrupt and the drive is probably malfunctioning. In that case, go to Step 10. If you ever have another problem with the drive, replace it immediately.
If you can start and log in in safe mode, empty the Trash, and then open the Finder Info window on the startup volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name.) Check that you have at least 9 GB of available space, as shown in the window. If you don't, copy as many files as necessary to another volume (not another folder on the same volume) and delete the originals. Deletion isn't complete until you empty the Trash again. Do this until the available space is more than 9 GB. Then restart as usual (i.e., not in safe mode.)
If the startup process hangs again, the problem is likely caused by a third-party system modification that you installed. Post for further instructions.
    Step 8
Launch Disk Utility in Recovery mode (see Step 1.) Select the startup volume, then run Repair Disk. If any problems are found, repeat until clear. If Disk Utility reports that the volume can't be repaired, the drive has malfunctioned and should be replaced. You might choose to tolerate one such malfunction in the life of the drive. In that case, erase the volume and restore from a backup. If the same thing ever happens again, replace the drive immediately.
This is one of the rare situations in which you should also run Repair Permissions, ignoring the false warnings it may produce. Look for the line "Permissions repair complete" at the end of the output. Then restart as usual.
    Step 9
Reinstall the OS. If the Mac was upgraded from an older version of OS X, you’ll need the Apple ID and password you used to upgrade.
    Step 10
Do as in Step 9, but this time erase the startup volume in Disk Utility before installing. The system should automatically restart into the Setup Assistant. Follow the prompts to transfer the data from a Time Machine or other backup.
    Step 11
This step applies only to models that have a logic-board ("PRAM") battery: all Mac Pro's and some others (not current models.) Both desktop and portable Macs used to have such a battery. The logic-board battery, if there is one, is separate from the main battery of a portable. A dead logic-board battery can cause a startup failure. Typically the failure will be preceded by loss of the settings for the startup disk and system clock. See the user manual for replacement instructions. You may have to take the machine to a service provider to have the battery replaced.
    Step 12
If you get this far, you're probably dealing with a hardware fault. Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store, or go to another authorized service provider.

  • The processing of Group Policy failed because of lack of network connectivity to a domain controller

We are setting up a new AD environment  with one AD/DC running DNS services,  and a secondary DNS server configured with secondary zone. The problem is that none of the machines in the the domain are getting GPO.
When I run a gpupdate /force from a machine, I get the following output:
    "Updating Policy...
User Policy update has completed successfully.
Computer policy could not be updated successfully. The following errors were enc
    ountered:
The processing of Group Policy failed because of lack of network connectivity to
a domain controller. This may be a transient condition. A success message would
be generated once the machine gets connected to the domain controller and Group
Policy has succesfully processed. If you do not see a success message for sever
al hours, then contact your administrator.
To diagnose the failure, review the event log or run GPRESULT /H GPReport.html f
rom the command line to access information about Group Policy results."
While the system event log outputs the following:
"The processing of Group Policy failed because of lack of network connectivity to a domain controller. This may be a transient condition. A success message would be generated once the machine gets connected to the domain controller and Group Policy
has succesfully processed. If you do not see a success message for several hours, then contact your administrator."
All the machines that were joined to the domain are able to resolve in forward and reverse lookups, ping the DC and ping each other so  I dont understand how the error can be resolved.
Here are few things I have tried:
    1. I came across this KB which checked ok for me: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/241515
    2. Made a copy of the default GPO, applied to a OU with one machine, and made sure to remove any GPO links from above
    3. Enabled the following  two local Group policies on a test member:
    GP slow link detection
    Startup policy processing wait time
    4. Modified firewall to allow everything on both member and DC
    5. Verified DSN logs, SRV records, access to sysvol ( added authenticated users to sysvol)
I have yet to figure out the reason for this issue. Has anyone seen anything like this before?

    1. I checked the NIC, it only has one IP. and I followed your article. I set the primary DNS to its own IP and the secondary DNS to the loopback ip
    2. This is a new DC and DNS server. I dont have old records yet. I also check the DNS event logs. No errors
    3. I made sure the member server is pointing only to the only DC/DNS server
    4. Here is the output from the dcdiag....  everything passed except, the Netlogons part. I'm not sure what means or how to fix it yet:
