Record TV to Mac

I've been searching for the past two days and I'm a little confused about recording TV shows to the Mac.
I've read about Elgato EyeTV 250, and EyeTV Hybrid. I do not know at this point which is the better buy for my purpose.
I have a MacBook Pro, and I would like to schedule recordings of TV shows so I can view later on my Mac. Mind you, I take my Mac with me wherever I go.
Can anyone point me in the right direction as to software/hardware needed?
Thanks.

The difference between the two is that the "hybrid" includes an antenna for receiving over-the-air broadcasts, and the 250 comes with a hardware MPEG2 encoder and the ability to import S-Video and composite.
If you want something dead simple to record off standard cable, The hybrid will do. However, most people probably want the functionality of the 250.

You're setting up internal DNS services, you referenced your ISP DNS servers and you should not have, and now those servers have no translations for your hosts. This is a common misconfiguration.
See [configuring DNS on Mac OS X Server|http://labs.hoffmanlabs.com/node/1436] for how to set up your internal DNS server.
And if there are any references to your ISP DNS servers here (within your client settings, within your server settings, your Airport settings, etc), then you're usually going to have DNS and connectivity problems. You're running a server now, so you'll be running your own services, and (particularly because of NAT here) referencing only your own DNS server(s).
You may be setting up external DNS (if and when you need that), but that should happen after you set up your internal DNS. The above article has a link to setting up external DNS, when you get around to that, if/when you need in-bound connections into your LAN.

  • Is there any way I can find out the service record on this mac ?

I purchased a used QS from an authorized apple dealer at their after boxing day sales event. This QS is extremely quite compared to my polar express MDD.
Is there any way I can find out the service record on this mac ?
Somewhere away back when I heard that by knowing the serial number the details of the service record on the given mac could be found. However in those days I only bought new. These days with mac's inability to run applications that require the for real OS 9 ( not classic ) I have to scour the used market. I have some high end audio midi programmes ( for example emagic, cubase VST score ) that do the job and sometimes better then then the OS X versions.

    Hello,
You can use System.getProperty("SAPSYSTEMNAME"); in your UDF as specified in this thread.
Get name of XI System in mapping
    Hope this helps,

  • Best Screen Recording Software for Mac?

Looking for recommendations on a good computer screen recording program, as I'm trying to make a tutorial video, and need to be able to record what I am doing on my computer screen.
Would prefer free, but don't mind paying a bit - quality is most important. Any advice would be appreciated - thanks!

    without doubt - Screenflow
    why ?
because, it is not only a 'grabber', but it includes an 'editor', drop-dead-simple as iMovie, which includes many features ESPECIALLY made for tutorials - e.g. you can zoom-in after recording without quality-loss, you can change cursor-size, highlite, 'print' pressed keys on screen, add a pic-in-pic (if you like your face in your tuts ) ..
    side-note: screen-grabs are off the standards, iM or FinalCut/express support! so, a built-in editor is a ++ ! (the exports/uploads from a SF-project are superb!)
not cheap, but worth every cent!

  • WVC80N recording on a MAC

Can someone please tell me how to record on my MAC. I have the camera connected wirelessly. I can not find a utility on the CD that came with the camera. It is sold as compatible with a MAC but I can not record. Only using Quicktime to record screen which is not good.

What do you mean by "It is sold as compatible with a MAC but I can not record. Only using Quicktime to record screen which is not good"?
Are you trying to schedule, so that it can record video at a given time? If yes, then what settings you have set on your Camera as well as on the Camera Utility? If you can post the screenshot of the settings which you made on your camera as well as on the Utility.

  • Recording on I Mac

Hoe kan ik zelf een instrument (baritonsax in mijn geval) opnemen in Garageband. Moet je dan een microfoon aansluiten of wat?
    Ries van Dorst

You can record through the Mac's internal microphone: create a real instrument track, hit record, and blow away.
If you're not happy with the sound quality in the long run, you need a microphone - either a USB one or one that connects through an audio interface or a mixing console.

  • Is there a way to record sound from mac ????

using a mbp with snowleopard ... can I record mac output ?
Using microphone is ridicolus and let a lot of noise
Using soundflower I could not hear nothing while recording.
I nedd to hear and record sound outup from my mac like I did on windows... Is it possible without installing 3rd party software ?
    And with 3rd softwares ?

I've tried both suggested software but I think I was not so clear.
I need to use sound from mac as an input while I could hear it.
I do not need a software that record sound from mac.
For example... if on windows i set input "wave out mix" instead of "microphone" I could use system sound as input... for example record a lot of error message's sound (PING!) with quicktime pro...
I would do the same thing with macosx...
I am surprised that such a simple thing could not be done with this OS but now I am looking for a 3rd party software that could solve this problem...
Both Audacity and Wiretap can record sound... but not let select me system sound as input.
I need to select system sound as input in order to record it (while I hear it) with every software I want to use... QT pro for example...
    Is this so difficult?

    Hi Sansony,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
I understand you would like to record audio from the headphones you connected to your computer. When recording audio with QuickTime Player, you can choose to use the built-in microphone, an external microphone you’ve connected, or a microphone from a connected Apple display. Please use the following article as a reference.
Mac Basics: QuickTime Player creates, plays, edits, and shares video and audio files
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4024
Clicking the triangle icon gives you additional options, such as letting you choose whether to use the built-in microphone on your Mac, an external microphone you've connected to your Mac, a microphone from a connected Apple display, or the option to simply use no microphone at all. The triangle also allows you to adjust the finished quality of your screen recording, select whether or not your mouse clicks are shown during the recording (the pointer is highlighted when you click), and to select what location (on your Mac) to save your screen recording when finished.
    Have a great day,
    Joe

  • Video Recording on my Mac

How can I video record a sequence of events that occur on my Mac? For example if I want to make a movie of my opening folders, launching apps etc... how can I do this?

I use it and have no troubles. It loads at start up and just "waits" to be invoked. It has more uses than just screen captures, too. You can record nearly anything that plays on your Mac. I use it to capture some Flash files that QT normally couldn't play. Here is an example:

  • Recording Tv to Mac

    Hi All,
I have recently got into online gaming, and want to record videos on to my Apple Mac.
My TV has the following connections:
    1 x composite video/audio input ( RCA phono x 3 )
    1 x S-Video input ( 4 PIN mini-DIN )
    1 x SCART ( 21 PIN SCART )
    1 x audio line-out
Does any one have any suggestions of how I would go about this?
    Thanks
    Ben

You can't get a signal from your TV to the MacBook. You need a receiver to hook to your MacBook and have your antenna or cable system hooked to that. I use one of the elgato firewire systems and it works great. I have heard good things about miglia also.

  • Recording sound with Mac Pro

Now that I am well settled into my Mac Pro, which really is a super machine, I would like to use it to archive our high end analog record collection for The Anstendig Institute (www.anstendig.org, personal: www.anstendig.com) for the long run.
Since we have ultimate record-playing equipment (cartridge, turntable and arm), we want to archive these analog recordings with the highest possible digital sound quality of the moment, so we won't have to redo everything when the next little advance comes out (that is what we have done for decades now: every time the record-playing equipment improved, we redid everything, and when analog RTR tape became unthinkable anymore, we redid that, etc. Record playing equipment will not outpace what we now have, so we want a digital format that is unquestionably beyond the argument about what resolution will be adequate, etc.).
For just straight sound recording, without manipulation at all or editing at all, what would be the best ap/format/whatever to use with the Mac Pro at the moment. The ap does not have to be complex or multichannel, or etc. Just high sound quality and little more.
    Thanks,
    Mark

There are literally dozens of apps for both recording and editing sound. You will find them at VersionTracker or MacUpdate.
My wife uses a Griffin iMic (inexpensive hardware interface for connecting a mic or sound input via USB) together with their Final Vinyl software. We use it to interface between her MacBook and the audio output from a tape player to transfer the tapes to MP3 or AIFF files. No editing abilities. Just basic sound recording. Works quite well.
There are many other apps as well. For both recording and editing you can't beat the shareware app Amadeus Pro.

  • Home music recording- is the Mac Pro better for this than an iMac?

I know it seems like a daft question but if you were to recommend a Mac for a DECENT home studio and money were (within reason) nearly no object WHAT Mac would you recommend? I always believed that a good sized desktop would be better than an iMac or a MacBook Pro (which is what I have been using for just a hobby home recording set-up) but is this a myth?
Please advise because the Mac Pro looks SCARY. I mean- the options are vast but what DO I NEED as opposed to want? Thank you kindly for reading.

I guess there is nothing wrong with the set-up except that the MacBook Pro is mine and the musicians need their own as I need mine for work.
Ah, I see. I think an iMac should be sufficient. Just be sure to get more RAM than the stock 1GB. Apple's prices on RAM are pretty severe compared to other vendors, so I'd recommend adding RAM after purchase. If you search the iMac forum for "RAM UK", you should find recommendations on reliable vendors. Don't go with lowest price; there's nothing that can cause you fits with a computer system more than flakey RAM, so you want a vendor with a good reputation for quality. I'd suggest bumping the iMac to the maximum 4GB. As to screen size, I tend to prefer having two screens rather than one big one - you can put palettes on the second monitor - so if it's a choice and desk space is sufficient, consider a 20" iMac and a second 17" or 20" screen to go with it.
If you reckon the interface is enough to do the mic justice and that Logic Express or Pro would do when the musicians know and love Cubase then I am happy to help them learn more Mac-based software and get that instead as it is also cheaper and looks like it would make more sense to ME.
Unless they're wedded to Cubase, I'd think that Logic Express should work quite well. You may all want to take a trip to an Apple reseller and take a look at it.
Unless there is a reason to "upgrade" the interface I guess that is one less item to acquire
An upgrade would seem logical only if the Safire isn't giving the quality you want or there aren't enough inputs.
I'd call your recommendation but I am in the UK and will probably talk to the nice folk at Dolphin Music in Newcastle as that is where I got the interface.
I wasn't sure where you were. If you are located in or near Newcastle-On-Tyne, you can find a list of authorized resellers here, or if you're near Manchester or Sheffield or don't mind taking a paddle down, you can drop by an Apple Store. You can then perhaps preview Logic Express before you decide. You might want to call before you make a special trip just to make sure your dealer can indeed demo LE.
Final recommendation; get really good microphones. Garbage in, garbage out, as they say, and having the right microphone, one that's suited for the instrument that's being recorded, is vital. The Neumann is of course high quality, but if you haven't already purchased, check around. You can find really good mics for less than Neumann charges; unless things have changed, you pay a bit of a premium for their reputation. AKG used to make really good mics, quite well suited for piano and acoustic guitar in particular, and there are no doubt others as well (my knowledge of specific models is rather out of date).
    Cheers.

  • Is Logic Pro the Best Audio Recording Software for Mac?

Couple questions. I do a lot of audio production and work currently. I use a gateway with Cubase, and its not bad, but I feel like I need something mroe high end.
I'm looking at the 17 inch Imac. Does anyone record using this computer? How's it sound? Is there any way to put in a new soundcard or something if i don't like the current one?
Secondly, is logic pro the most advanced and best audio recording software for the mac? Are there others as well?
I know about Pro Tools, but it seems like there isn't anything high end enough that is TOO high end.
Does the Pro version have superior mixing capabilties. I am primarily going to be micing a guitar amp and having a mixer run into a firewire port, and also using a preamp for my guitar direct into the computers USB.
Lastly, how are the mixing features on Logic Pro vs. Logic Express? I do a lot of post production mixing as well, and use VST plugins. Speaking of that, will it accomodate using a drum program like BFD through VST or Midi like Cubase will?
    Thanks for your time guys.

Yes, you do indeed need sth more high end.

It's not an iMac, but a faithful PowerBook G4 that I am using. Apples Core Audio is awesome. Your sound, however, will depend on your interface.
Secondly, is logic pro the most advanced and best
audio recording software for the mac? Are there

That's why we are here, and that's why you ended up in this forum as well
To me personally, Logic sounds warmer and bigger than any ProTools system I've ever heard. From what yopu described as the work you need to do, there is no comparable application. Logic also offers you many more features above and beyond what you currently need to do.
I know about Pro Tools, but it seems like there isn't
anything high end enough that is TOO high end.
Everybody is using PT, and you should maybe get a Light Edition version of it. However, as stated above, Logic offers by far more possibilities.

For your purpose, Logic does have superior mixing capabilities. In my humble opinion, only the popularity of PT made it become the choice of studios and engineers, but things are turning...

Logic Express? I do a lot of post production mixing
as well, and use VST plugins. Speaking of that, will
it accomodate using a drum program like BFD through

If you do post production mixing, forget about Logic Express altogether and go for Logic Pro. LP will accomodate tons of plug-ins, and it comes with a bunch of great one's as well!
The format for the plug-ins is called A(udio) U(nit) and works flawlessly. Many VST plug-ins are also available in AU format and the development of those is moving fast forward.
In other words, yes, you will be able to use BFD in Logic by means of the AU format.
    Thanks for your time guys.
    You're welcome.

  • Recording from record onto my Mac

    Hi....can anyone help!
I've got a record player that I want to hook up with my Mac and record my records into it so I can use them on my ipod?!
    Chris

You will need something like the iMic by Griffin Technology. iMic provides a USB input to the iBook.
Depending on the record player, you may need some kind of pre-amp. If it is a high quality turntable, you will need the pre-amp, or be able to connect to a stereo amplifier. If the player includes the amplifer, then you can connect either to an available output jack (to tape recorder, etc.) or to a head phone jack. To make these connections, you will need the appropriate adapters. The iMic has a standard 1/8 inch stereo input. If you must use the head phone jack on the amp, you will need to play with the volume to prevent distortion of the sound. Start with the volume at the lowest level, and adjust until you are just shy of overdriving the input.
I have not tried iTunes yet, but understand that it is easy to use. I did most of my record conversion before the advent of iTunes. I used a Shareware program call Amadeus.
