Record video into finalcut and audio multitrack into logic in sync

Hi,
I'm an experienced logic user but new to video.
What is the best way to record video and audio multitrack!! synchronously?
Can I record video direct to my harddisc and synchronously record audio into logic or soundtrack pro? We have two separate macs available.
-Can I connect finalcut with logic via rewire or do I need additional sync hardware?
-How can I start record simultaneously for finalcut and logic?
-Do I need finalcut pro?
-Can I record video and audio directly and simultaneously into soundtrack pro or finalcut?
I currently work with a cutter who uses canopus but assign each video take to each audio take is so time consuming. There must be a better solution for video production.

FCP is not ReWire compatible.

You can not.

Maybe, but I can't say one way or the other. What is your goal with video?

You can record directly into FCP, either via FW or SDI (if you have supporting hardware)

Some editors find the term "cutter" to be an unfair characterization of what they do. We do waaaaay more than just cut out the bad takes!

My house is Apple House... MAC Pros, iPads, iPods, Iphones, Apple TV, etc...for every member of our family. I have a choice between moving away from Apple to Sonos for audio or make Airplay work logically. Which is streaming audio to speakers when needed. Practically, video to TV and audio to speakers. Thanks Vazandrew. I have already tried without success. As soon as video streams from the Macpro to the AppleTV to the TV, the Airplay compatible speakers go silent. There must be a small setup detail I'm missing. I'll keep on trying. Thanks for your reply.

I work for a teaching hospital. We are using groups of 20 to 30 iPads for access to patient electronic records, video conferencing software, and other, HIPPA compliant apps. I need to be able to access the iPads to shut down and erase in case of loss.

I have a need to have one central program that can push out updates, other information, but most importantly, can erase the iPad in cases of loss or stolen. Can anyone direct me to such software.

How can I incorporate several video and audio clips into one iMovie project?

Hello all. Basically, I'm trying to solve a problem before it becomes one. I'm going to put together a short iMovie project for a thank-you dinner. Several people from out-of-town will not be able to make the dinner. I want to give them the opportunity to "speak" by having them put together a short video or audio clip. I then need to gather up all the clips and put them together in one iMovie project. I guess I'm looking for some assistance in terms of format, what types of files/formats to use, etc. I've done a few movies (mainly from still pictures -- glorified slideshows with music). But, I'm still a relative neophyte when it comes to the computer world. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. (feel free to point to a "How to " tutorial if there's a good one out there).

the real task is, to make all clips readable for usage in iM ...
before making you a technician on video-codecs:
download and install the free tools Mpeg Streamclip and Perian.org
you have to relaunch your Mac after doing so...-
BEFORE adding any of your external sources into an Event, use Streamclip to manually convert to DV, or if source is HDef, to Quicktime/Appleintermediate.
the resulting files should import flawless into iM, proceed as usual.
iM 'swallows' a lot of formats, so it could be this manual conversion isn't needed ...

Flash - finalcut - and audio sample rates

So, I have a complex issue I'm trying to work through in my head and I thought one or two of you brilliant people could provide some insight.
I've been provided with a 11min flash animation that had been turned into a 24fps mov. There were some issues with some garbage frames, so I brought it into finalcut to take out those little bits of the video. Now I'm trying to make this clip into a DVD friendly video format and a youtube friendly one. In the original clip there is a circle that fairly smoothly grows larger. When I brought it into FCP that part of the video had all sorts of jagged edges and messyness.
Is that from frame rate going from 24 -> 29.97 ? Is that keyframeing issues? What can I do to solve that?

the audio track is at 48khz. Another guy took that track to go add music, clean up the audio and give it back to me. I got the file back at 48khz..brought it into FCP and placed it underneath the original track. They both start at the same time and then the new track gradually starts to drift and no longer be in sync.
What is up with that?
Any and all help will be loved, used, and enjoyed.

So...no thoughts on this? I can't seem to figure out why 2 recording are playing so far off each other.

DVD encoded video and audio progressively get out of sync

I've been trying to finalise a DVD I’m creating but keep having the same show-stopping problem where I just can't get the timing of the audio and video right after encoding it to MPEG-2/ac3 for DVD Studio Pro. When I lay it into the track in DVDSPro it plays fine at the start of the track but as the clip gets longer the audio and video gets further and further out of sync, by a few seconds (eg. for over 1 hour length footage).
I've seen similar posts online about timing issues with Compressor but nothing I saw has hit the nail on the head for me. I also posted my problem on Creative Cow but didn't get the help I needed to fix my problem.
Here's the specs:
FCPro X 10.1.4
Video project: 1080i (@ 25i)
Audio 44.1 kHz
Render: Apple ProRes 422
Length: 01:13:05:02
Compressor 4.1.3
MPEG-2 Setting (only what I think is important... or I don't know)
Format: Elementary Stream
Stream Usage: DVD
Retiming: Set duration to: 100% (shows 01:13:05:02)
Video Frame Rate: Auto (25fps)
Field Order: Same as Source
GOP: greyed out at 12
ac3:
Sample rate: 48kHz (the only choice)
Data rate: 224 kbps
DVD Studio Pro 4.2.1
PAL DVD-9 project
From FCP I send my project to Compressor and when I drop both a DVD Audio and Video codec onto it they both show as Retiming 100% (and the length looks the same) but the results are still unsynchronised at the end of the clip when they are placed into the Track in DVDSPro. I've also tried changing different settings, like MPEG-2 Retiming duration to "So source frames play at 25 fps", but I'm still having troubles.
At one point I managed to get the A/V timing right for my track and I then ran what I thought was the same settings for all my other tracks in the DVD but they ended up with a similar outa-sync problem so I deleted everything to try again and realised I'd deleted my good files. And I just can't seem to replicate it again. I’m not sure if it was an accidental mistake that worked or I hit on the right settings. Either way, it shouldn’t be this hard to get it right, for heaven's sake!!!
Also, strangely, when I open the MPEG-2 file in QuickTime Player (10.4) it shows 01:10:30 long but if I open the same file in QuickTime Pro 7 it shows as the correct 1:13:05. And DVD Studio Pro shows 01:13:05:02 for both the audio & video assets but their sync is still out at the end.
This problem stopped me from producing the DVD last Christmas and I tried to pick it up again to give it to the family for this Christmas but ended up having to bail yet again - not impressed!!!
I'm hoping it's a simple solution of getting the settings right but it may also be a bug! Apparently, my bro-in-law has had similar problems and has ditched the DVD route altogether. I already have all of my menus etc. set up and I'd hate to have to ditch all that hard work.

It was as easy as changing the sample rate in the FCP project from 44.1 to 48 and sending it to Compressor again. I think it was set to 44.1 because I had the project set to automatically assign the parameters from the first video dropped into it. I haven't checked yet but the audio from my camera is likely 44.1.
It would be nice if Compressor produced a warning message when you set the codec up for DVD audio that the original is set to a different sample rate & may cause timing problems when resampled to 48kHz.
Anyway, again THANKS lads for solving what has been a year long problem for me and now I can complete my Christmas project, albeit late!

Video and Audio 2 frames out of sync: DVCPRO HD 720p60. Can you help me pl?

I'm capturing DVCPRO HD video 720p60 [shooted with a Panasonic VARICAM (AJ-HDC27)].
I'm using a Panasonic AJ-HD1200A videorecorder (by the Firewire port):
on the Final Cut Pro (5.1) timeline, video and audio are out of sync (audio comes two frames before video). Why?

This is normal when capturing DVCPRO HD via firewire. Happens to me all the time. I simply slip the audio back two frames when I drop them into the timeline. Only way to fix this is to get an HD capture card like the Kona LHe or Decklink Extreme and capture the footage via HD SDI as DVCPRO HD. Doing that will eliminate the sync issue.
It is all FIREWIRE's fault...

Video and audio slowly go out of sync

im trying ot make encore dvds the first one I made worked fine but now whenever I make a dvd the video and audio slowly drift apart as it plays.
ive tried converting the audio to AC3 but it did not help. Ive also tried various formats like vob, mp4 and avi.
does anyone have a solution?

This may or may not work but give it a try. I'm not sure what software you used to create the video file that you sent to Encore
but I'll assume that it is Premier CS3 or CS4.
Here's what I would do.
1) output your sequence two ways. a) seperate Mv2 & Audio file, b) One single AVI file. Use media Encoder, DO NOT USE DYNAMIC LINK!
2) Import each one into encore. NOTE: The mv2 file will NOT have to be transcoded.
3) Set each one up on a seperate timeline.
4) Play each time line. See if they go out of sync. If they do, make sure that you perform the following.
5) Place each timeline onto a menu. label each one so you know which is which (i.e., MV2, AVI)
5) Burn the project to an image file (don't waste a DVD).
Next try playing the DVD using a seperate DVD player (NOT ADOBE)
Test each timeline. See if they work or fail.
It sounds like a lot of work but once you know which way works, stick with it!

N97 recording video goes light and dark

Has anybody else noticed that when recording video it seems to go light and dark as if it cant decide what contrast to record in, it isnt a major issue but just wondered if anybody else had the same problem?

I mean after card installation go to camera options and change the setting for memory in use to memory card.

How to I synchronize video from Imovie and audio from garageband?

I recorded the audio in Garageband and the video thru my video camera. I then captured the video in Imovie and attached the audio to the project from garageband. I can't seem to be able to synchronize both.I clicked on the green area and clicked "trim" and when the waveform appeared, I moved the handle back and forth, but video and audio never synced. I also went to my project and tried to pull the video or the audio back and forth, but it also never synced.
What are the steps to take to achieve this?

If you want the video and audio to automatically sync, Final Cut Pro X is the tool of choice, but it is more expensive than iMovie, and it has a big learning curve.
With iMovie, you can still do this by showing the wave forms and lining them up visually. There is a nuance that in iMovie, you must have video. You cannot have sound that exists outside a video element. For you, this means that if your GB track is the same length or longer than your iMovie video track, you cannot shift it side to side. This is easily fixed by adding some dummy clips before and after your video so there is room to slide the track back and forth. You can find these "Black Background" clips (and others) under the Maps tab.
I recently had to sync up some audio with video. Here is a post that explains in detail how I did it. It may help. Unfortunately, in my case, I was syncing the audio from 2 cameras. This is easier than syncing video with an audio track, but some of the tricks may still apply.
If anything still does not make sense, please ask.
One more thing. When you have an audio track like one created in GB, it is not simple in iMovie to delete a chunk of it and delete the corresponding video at the same time. Once again, this is a task better suited for Final Cut Pro X. It is possible to export your movie to the Media Browser and then continue editing it in GB, so that may be an option for you.

Simultaneous import of video via firewire and audio via in-line audio port

I have a converter that takes the S-video and audio input from my DVR then converts both to DV format, and then outputs via firewire. I hook the firewire up to my G5, open iMovieHD, and the application recognizes that as a camera and imports wonderfully.
Well, the audio comes through with a MAJOR buzz or hum. It's probably the converter, but the buzz/hum is not enjoyable.
So, I removed the audio from the converter, and the video converts wonderfully in iMovie without the audio. I have the audio coming in through my audio line-in.
I start to import my video, and iMovie starts recording the video. But I want to record the line-in audio at the same time. But when I switch to audio to turn on the input from the line-in, the video stops capturing.
When I start to capture audio first, then switch to capture video, then the audio stops capturing.
Is there any way that I can capture the video via firewire for one "track", and my line-in audio for the other "track", and have them play simultaneously in iMovie during capture??

hey there badkitty 42,
i don't think you can do that. it sounds like your issue is electrical. try turning the plug around on each piece of gear in the chain & listen for the buzz. if it's not heard you've found the cause of your ground loop. you can also pick up some of the 3-prong orange or grey electrical adapters from Lowe's or Home Depot to see if you can "lift the ground" to get rid of the buzz. i'd try one on the convertor 1st. one last thing, do you have any flourescent lights in use on the same circuit or in proximity to where you're doing your transcoding? these are notorious for inducing 60Hz hum in audio & video gear.

With Netscape all of the Webcam shots from live feeds were automatically saved in my cache folder and I could simply open my cache send the saved files into AcDsee and convert them into jpgs, It would save as many as I would allow space for. With firefox

I cant retrieve my images from webcams that are cached any more with mozilla. With netscape all of the live webcam images from live cams were automatically saved in my cache folder and all i had to do was open it send the files to acdsee and turn them into jpgs. It would save them untill the Cache ran out of room no matter how many files or sites I had running. Mozilla seems to save what it wants when it wants and often dose not save any that I can retrieve because I believe it is bulking them into Cache 123 or 4 and those i cant open to retrieve the files. Sometimes it saves 100 or so and sometimes 2 or 3 sometimes 10 or more but i don't seem to have any control over what it does or does not save to retrieve no matter how much space i allow for the cache to save.

R60 always boots into Rescue and Recovery instead into Win XP

Hello all,
I intended to write a backup via Thinkvantage R&R, startet from the boot menue. This fails as no target could be selected to save the backup.
After I talked to a colleague of mine, who told me to use R&R out of Windows (this way he made the initial backup) I reboot the machine via the button reboot in the top right corner. The machine rebootet but instead to start Windows Thinkvantage R&R was started again. No matter what I do, if I choose to boot from HDD Thinkvantage R&R will be started (if I choose to boot from USB od CD the system on the stick or CD will start).
I can repeat this ad infinitum, there will always start Thinkvantage R&R. I even tried to revert back to the initial backup -- to no avail
Maybe someone can tell me how to stop this circle.

sorry for this late response but I didn't test this earlier.
Thank you for the tip, this was the first step to solve this issue. After I changed the boot flag I was able to boot XP -- but only once. So I changed the boot flag again and I saw a notice about an unsuccessful and now pending backup job (this time I watched XP's boot process more closely . After I aborted the pending job I'm now able to boot into XP and R&R as I wish.

Recording video, pausing it and resume recording video

While recording a video on the iPhone 5S, it can pause the video recording for a while and it can resume back the video recording as well just like that?

60FPS will make the video smoother and is better when capturing fast moving objects. A higher FPS will however make the video file larger and if you plan to play the video on another device that device must also support playback of 60FPS.
The auto mode uses 30FPS and there's no setting to change this.
If you take a picture while recording video in auto mode it will have the same resolution as the video, 1920x1080. You can see the resolution of a picture if you open it in Album and tap [menu] -> Details.
