Recording and pasting sounds in OSX, a better way?

I have not tried doing this before but another poster wants to add audio notes in Pages.
When I researched this, in itself a painful task, it seems the only way to record is via QuickTime Pro and to export it and massage it into shape before going a round about route to bring it into Pages.
I can't believe it is this bad!
I also noted a few GUI gaffes along the way.
Please tell me the whole process of simply recording and pasting a sound has not completely gone backwards since Mac OS9?

orangekay.
None of what you are saying advances the issue at all. All you are doing is denying that it is useful or saying that you personally wouldn't use it.
The original O.P. is a Professor who uses audio comments because it is fast and personal. Which is his choice.
It should not be a Pages function to record and place the audio, that should be a system one. The first part was already better managed and obvious over a decade and a half ago.
I sourced him a range of 3rd party software that could do the recording for him, only one of which would add it into the location (I'm not sure how cleanly). Only one of these was free, the rest were pricey.
I was personally astonished, even though I have encountered other such kludges in OSX, that Apple has made the simple act of recording audio so awkward and concealed. It is yet another example of how unfamiliar the OSX programmers are with elementary good user design. Also that despite many features are thrown into the system, they are unfinished and essentially useless.
In the process of testing a method of achieving the end result in Pages, I tested a recording by playing it in the media browser. The play button doesn't even toggle to a stop button. Doesn't anyone at Apple look at how it is done anywhere else in the System?

  • Record and play sound in SWF

    Hi List,
I have developed standalone applications wherby i want the
    give the
user an option of recording voice and then replaying the
    recorded
sound. No need to save a file. Just record and listen.
Is it possible to record and play sound in Flash swf-files
    without the Flash Communication Server?
If not is there any third party component which can help me
    solve this purpose?

No, don't think this is possible without Flash Media
    (formerly Communication) Server.
Search these forums though. The question is asked pretty
often, so maybe someone has offered a different answer.
    Cheers!

  • Recording and playing sound input from mic simultaneously in iphone/ipad

I want to simultaneously record and play the sound from a mic in iphone. As thecricket commentory application.
Please provide me a solution for this.
    Is this possible in iOs.

This probably isn't going to sound very helpful, for which I apologise in advance, but I'm afraid it's the truth...
The only way you stand any way of doing any of this is by using ASIO4ALL, which can aggregate different drivers from multiple devices. But I don't rate your chances too highly, I'm afraid - USB mics have long been the problem child of computer-based audio. On top of that, you are trying to get sounds in and out of a separate device at the same time - not only that, but it's a Creative Labs gamer's device and they are second only to USB mics in terms of the 'difficult' stakes - search this forum!
A much, much better way to attempt to do this would be to use a sensible ASIO external device with sufficient inputs, and a mic that plugs into it, not a USB one. That way you could route the inputs and outputs appropriately, and use the device's monitoring so that you could monitor what you need to. I wouldn't attempt to do anything like this any other way, I'm afraid. Another approach (which can be made to work well) is to use an external mixer to do most of the work - often it's easier to set up the monitoring on these. You can get mixers with the appropriate interface built-in, and they don't cost a fortune either. Mackie and Behringer make suitable devices.

  • Copy and Paste on Mac OSX

Dumb question I know but I wrote a Java Swing application that works just fine on Windows.
I had a user try it on Mac OSX and she said that cut and paste were not working. She was copying tags from DreamWeaver and trying to paste them on a JTextField. I am just relying on the standard java functionality to provide this (I have not written any specialized cut and paste).
Can anybody enlighten me with the keyboard copy and paste commands that should work on a Mac for a JTextField (or any other Swing object for that matter)? And is there any reason why this would ever not work?

I hate guessing but I will assume that you mean Word.
Where do you copy the picture from, and what is the error message when you attempt to paste?

  • Is there a file size limitation on the cut and paste function in OSX?

I have noticed that sometime I am able to cut and paste files and sometimes I can only copy them.  Is there a limitation in the system and if so what is it?  I have also that sometimes I get the option to keep a duplicate file and sometimes it will only allow me to replace it.  Clarity anyone?

You should not be able to "cut" a file at all, regardless of its size. Files can only be copied.
Depending on where you copied it from and where you are trying to copy it to, you may be able to only copy.
If the enclosing folder has an ACL that denies delete, then you wont be able to move it, only copy.

  • Any news to the copy and paste problem with osx 10.9 ms rdc client?

we have a new macmini with 10.9 and we work with microsoft remote desktop client 8.0.5,

    Hi,
Yes, it is not supported in the current versions.
The workaround is to use folder redirection.
Folder redirection enables access local folders during the remote session. Click the + button at the bottom of the dialog and choose a folder you want to have redirected.
    Configure Folder Redirection
    1. Click the + button.
    2. In the Add Local Folder window, enter the following information:
    • Name: Set a name for the folder to be available during the remote session.
    • Path: Select the path to the folder to be available during the remote session.
    3. Click the exit button to save the remote desktop.
    Thanks.

  • Catalog settings and meta data is there a better way.

    HI
I have adobe cs4 and light room 2.2 I do my editing in LR cropping exposure web galleries and so on on, thats all well and good but any modifications i make will not show up in the bridge unless i go into light room and apply save meta data to files. I have about 400 light room catalogs as I store the catalog in the folder that contains the original image. Is there a way to have light room automatically apply meta data changes to each catalog in stead of going to catalog settings or saving the meta data to the file. its a pain in the *** to have to go into a catalog and apply all those settings if i want to do some editing in the bridge

    > ...is there a better way ...
Might I humbly suggest that your multiple (400!!) catalog strategy is flawed? You have defeated the benefits of having a single database. (And those that argue a database is bad concept and a possible single point of failure are ... well ... simply wrong.)
Lr can automatically write XMP data so that Bridge can read it. But the reverse is not true. Any changes that Bridge/ACR make will have to be imported into Lr with manually initiation.
The point and beauty of Lr is that you make the majority of adjustments in Lr. It's possible to make adjustments in Bridge and have them imported into Lr but as you discovered it is not automatic. And your workflow choice makes it doubly (or 400 times) more troublesome.

  • Recording and playing sound

I am having a problem with sound in my program, it takes information from a TargetDataLine, put's it in a temporary file, then takes it back out of the temporary file and plays it using a SourceDataLine. currently, it does not play back the sound source code will follow in my next two posts.

  • Gb3: problems recording and importing sound file to new track

since i upgraded from version 2, i can't record or import files into new tracks, including loops! anyone experienced this or have an idea what i could try to fix it? existing files still play, but nothing new will work.

The first two things I would suggest trying, in order:
    o Repair Permissions
    o Delete GB's prefs Files
. (Search your Hard Drive for "GarageBand" and delete the files that end in ".plist" and ".cs")

  • 16x9 - Nest and distort or is there a better way to convert?

I'm trying to figure out the best way (quality wise) to burn 16x9 footage to DVD.
I nested my final sequence in FCP, distorted it (-33.3), rendered it, exported it out of FCP via Compressor, authored it in DVD Studio Pro and burned it.
Is another process in Compressor or DVD Studio Pro that would let me letterbox the footage so that when the DVD is burned it plays back with the black bars?

What is the source of you "16x9" footage? Is it HD, or anamorphic DV, or some variation to produce widescreen? The fact that you had to distort it (-33.3) suggests that it is an anamorphic source that you are placing into a 4:3 sequence. My question would then be does it have to be a 4:3 non-anamorphic sequence? If your playback system support anamorphic video then why don't you process it as anamorphic 16:9 (full frame 720 x 480 for NTSC).
Otherwise (standard 4:3), I think you are stuck with doing a letterbox and what you've done is probably as good a solution as any.<small><hr width="75%"><small>If this suggestion helps in any way, a confirmation or acknowledgment would be appreciated, since that would also help others who may be having the same difficulty. • (CS4) Copy and paste video/sound into another project, sound won't export

    Hello Adobe community
I am working on a TV show for a community television network in Australia.  I created the opening credits in a seperate project to the edited footage of the show, because my computer is struggling with the size of all the files. So I have two project files. Recently I copied and pasted the edited footage of the show into the project where I have the opening credits (by highlighting all the footage, right clicking and going to copy, then opening the Project with the credits sequence, right clicking and selecting paste). This seems to work. I can hear the sound and continue tweaking and editing. However, when I  export the project, the sound from the footage I have copied into the project can't be heard. I can hear the sound from the credit sequence, but not the sound that has been copied into the project (although on the timeline of the project, I can hear the sound... This problem only presents itself after export).
I have tried doing the opposite... Copying and pasting the opening credit sequence into the project with the edited footage, and I get the same problem. It doesn't seem to matter which file type I export as. I have tried .AVI and .MPEG2, with the same results.
I am using Windows 7 64bit version, and Premiere CS4. I have a mixture of .MTS, .WAV and .MP3 audio files in the footage that I copy and paste across. None of them are exporting.
I have tried moving the copied and pasted audio files on to the same audio tracks as the sound already in the project, but this doesn't work either. The original sound will export, then when it gets to the copied and pasted sound nothing can be heard.
I have included some screen shots to illustrate the problem below. If you have any questions please let me know.
Thanks for your time! I have a looming deadline so your help is much appreciated.
    -Robert

Thanks for your replies everyone. Sounds like cut and paste is not an option. Wow, I didn't realise how much trouble I'd be causing for myself by having different parts of the show in different projects.
I am reluctant to export the project then import it into another project, because I do not want to lose quality through compression as Ann suggests.I don't know what you  mean, Ann, when you say "Dont think CS4 could import single sequence (forgot)."? Jim, I'm also unsure what you mean when you say "That's what UT is for"?
However, I went to File/Import/Import Entire Project, and imported the project this way. Then I dragged the little folder icon that appeared in the top left hand corner of the screen onto the timeline. However, when I did this, a few problems occured. Firstly, the original project had footage and audio on many different tracks, but when I imported the project nearly all of the video and audio was on to the one track. Secondly, instead of going for 10 minutes, the imported footage went for a few hours. Thirdly, the sound and images were all out of sync. I have included two images to illustrate this problem:
Above is the original project. As you can see, I have audio and video on many different tracks, and lots of cuts.
This is what the project looked like after I had imported it into another project. Nearly everything is on one track, the footage goes for a few hours now (instead of 10 minutes) and the video and sound are all out of sink.
Then I tried File/Import/Import Selected Sequence. The only sequence I had the option of importing was Sequence 1. I did this, then dragged the folder icon onto the timeline, and I had a similar problem to before. Everything on one track, footage out of sync and going for a few hours.
Is there a way to import a project and maintain all of the editing (the cuts, the multiple tracks, etc.) as they are in the original? I have spent many hours editing both the footage and the opening credits, so I really don't want to lose all this work when I import one into the other. The good thing about copy and paste is that it maintains all of the original cuts and editing. Shame it is so unreliable.
Thanks heaps for all your help!

Can not get the sound levels up.
Driver for Conexant HD SmartAudio 221 shows as up to date (4.36.7.0)
    Any assistance would be appreciated.

Do you use Toshiba factory settings? YES
Which OS do you use? VISTA
Do you have the same problem using headset? NO
I have narrowed it down a little more. It is only when I am connected to my wireless network. I can have Wi-Fi enabled, and connected to the internet via a mobile internet connection and there are no issues.
When I am connected via the router, I have this issue. You could say it is the router, however I have various other machines connected to the same router, without issue.
    So, to clarify.
WiFi on - not connected to internet via router, however connect by other means - All ok
WiFi on - connected to the internet via router, issue.

  • How do you append, or copy and paste, pages

Hi, if I'm in a file and want to extract a few pages but not the whole file to another file, is there a quick way to do it? I know you can extract the pages to a separate file, save the file and then insert into or combine with another file but this can be time consuming.
So is there an easy way to do it?
    Many thanks.

Thanks again. Yes, you are right though between files it only copies and doesn't move. I'm surprised that there isn't a copy and paste function that works in this way or an append like there is with emails, as dragging and dropping can sometimes be cumbersome.
But anyway it works so I'll have to live with the way it is.
    Cheers!

  • Masking out images. Is there a better way

Could someone help me out and maybe point me towards a better way to mask. png file is way too big. I have been using the mask layer option to create my own mask around a jpg image by drawing around it on the mask layer. There has to be a fetter and faster way to do this. Is it possible to maybe have a specific color range have an alpha value of 0.  Similar to green screening whereas If I put the item I want to clip on a green background flash will auto take out the green for me. and by auto I mean action script maybe. I think this can be done but im not finding it.
how are these guys clipping these images http://www.cr8tiverecreation.com/home.swf
they have the movie clips set up where the black background on the 3 layers of shoes is getting masked out. When I go into the shoe movie clips I see there is a black background but it just disappears when I go back to main timeline. Im not seeing any code for this or anything Please anyone help me out here. Thanks!

you could but that would be more cumbersome than simply assigning the background color to be transparent using the bitmapdata class.  and even that may be problematic if the background color is used in the foreground and you don't want it to be transparent.
