Recording audio ONLY from a DVD into iTunes

Hi, I'm new to macs having just got an iMac G5. So far I love it and it's loads better than any windows based system I've had. I'm wondering if it is possible to record the audio only from some music DVD's I have into iTunes...can anyone help or is this simply not possible?

Audio Hijack also creates large files, size-wise. This can be a problem if you are working with putting music on audio cds. Google "ripdifferent" for a site that discusses various methods of legally backing up legally purchased media. The gray area here actually has to do with breaking encryption- under US copyright law, users have always been allowed to make a single back-up (Fair Use) of any recorded media they have purchased. It is possible that media companies are, themselves, in violation of copyright law by making it difficult to make said backups by encrypting their media. Also, copying (ripping, recording, etc.) any DVD in any way would seem to be covered by the warning at the start of all DVDs (including soundtracks), which would include Audio Hijack, for instance. This all came about when the digital revolution made it possible to create exact copies. Back in the day, copying an LP to cassette, for instance, was not considered a problem, because you would lose a generation. BTW, ripping music DVDs can be problematic, as they are mastered differently than are "movies," and some Mac ripping programs have difficulty with them. Proceed cautiously and consider legal ramifications, but also consider retaining YOUR legal rights as well.

  • Can I import just the audio from a DVD into itunes????

I'm a beginner to this Itunes and have been wondering this. If I can take audio files off of CDs and put them into Itunes. Can I take just audio from a DVD and put that into Itunes. Example: Can I take the audio from a live concert DVD for just one song?

Welcome, Don, to the Apple Discussions!
No, you can't do that with iTunes.
There is third-party software available that allows you to do so, though.
You might want to pay a visit to Google and enter
    b dvd audio ripping
    or some such terms.
    Good Luck!

  • How do you import music videos from a dvd into iTunes?

I have got a music cd and includs a music dvd. I want the music videos to be imported into iTunes so I can watch them on my iPod touch. How do I do this?

I had a friend who got a dual-format music album on DVD of the band Chicago for his birthday. He didn't have a system that could play the remixed 5.1 surround sound version on the DVD, but he could play it back in his Mac OS X on the DVD player in good old stereo. However, he wanted a copy he could play in his car CD player.
So I used Audio Hijack to record the output of the DVD played back as stereo through the Apple DVD player in Mac OS X. I had Audio Hijacj write the output to the hard drive as AIFF 16-bit 44.1KHz stereo. Then I used iTunes to burn it to a CD.
Of course it took 45 minutes to make a recording from a 45-minute audio program; it happened in real-time.
(This was all perfectly legal because he owns the DVD and he's using the CD recording as a backup audio copy for his own personal use--basically like ripping a CD you own for use in your iPod).
I did an a/b comparison between the original DVD and the AIFF recording I had generated, and I was pleasantly surprised by its good quality.
Since then I've been an Audio Hijack fan.

  • How do I import movies from a DVD into iTunes?

I have a movie that I'd like to load into iTunes and watch on my iPod. How do I do that?

If it is a home movie, then convert it to a compatible file type and drag into itunes.
If it is a commercial DVD ( you purchased it, like a movie or tv show), then it is illegal to break the encryption used to stop people from copying the dvd. Sorry.

  • Is there a way to import movies from my DVDs into iTunes?

I have an ipod Video and I would like to import some of my favorite movies I own on DVD into my ipod to take with me on the road... Is there a way to do this? Please help...
    Dell Dimension 4550   Windows XP

Sorry, but if you're referring to a commercial DVD, those are copy-protected. Breaking the copy protection is illegal in the US, so discussing ways of doing it are not allowed here (since the US courts have been holding in some cases that even discussing in print such cracking may be illegal).

  • Built-In Microphone records audio only from the Left speaker

I'm not sure if my settings are correctly set up, but whenever I record through Logic, it only picks up sound from the Left Speaker of my MacBook Pro.
When I try to make noise through the Right Speaker, Logic's sound levels do not respond.
Any ideas why this is happening? I don't plan on using the built-in Microphone for much longer, but it's all I currently have at this point. Thanks!

    James,
Again, thanks for the response! I guess what Tokuda said about the mono Mic in the left speaker settles that. I was just confused, because when I used Sound Forge on my Windows partition, it would always pick up sound from both speakers (I think?). I could be wrong on that one too though.
As for goals, my long term goal is to produce Club/Dance music & some serious Vocal work with Logic. Only thing is I have no basis or ground knowledge of music. For instance, I don't even know how to play the piano, or read music for that matter. Sad, I know...but it is a work in progress. And the only Microphone I use is built-in and my voice overs always sound so bland & one-dimensional. No dynamics or great effects to them, like Tpayne, BSpears, or Madonna vocals. Not sure where I should start, maybe take some basic music theory courses at the local community college, grab an internship at a radio station, & then further my education @ SAE, or Berklee College of Music to learn more advanced editing techniques.
In the meantime, I have been producing Cheer, Dance, & Aerobic music for the past 5 years. It first started as a hobby, and then transformed into its own little business, and now I do hundreds of mixes for Cheerleaders & All Star programs all over the place! It came so natural to me though...Laying beats over songs, then adding my own creative touch to make it my own. I've been using Acid, which is GREAT for what I do, but isn't going to get me much further than that. That being said, I finally made the decision to move up to Logic, not only to broaden my musical horizons, but to hopefully continue making Cheer music with it as well.
Since Acid is PC only, I still do work on my desktop PC and have been slowly weaning myself from it. The Logic learning curve is extremely difficult (for me at least) and it's taken a lot of getting used to some things like NOT being able to cross-fade my loops. Very, very annoying. Nonetheless, I know I have to make the switch to Mac if I'm really serious about making it anywhere in this biz.
Anyway, I can totally email you one of my mixes (if you're interested). I would post a link here, but I gather most of the musicians on here wouldn't really appreciate it as much as I do, haha. Oh and by the way, thanks for taking the time to listen & help me out here. It means a lot man!

  • How can I import "extracted audio" clips from iMovie project into iTunes?

I imported my home video into iMovie HD 6.0.1 and extracted the audio. How can I get the extracted audio clip (aiff format) into my iTunes playlist?

    Genny,
I just tried to answer your question over in the iMovie forum. Have a look over there.

  • How can I import audio books from a CD into itunes 10.54.1.2 to then use on my ipad or iphone.

I cannot seem to get the books/chapters to go into anything but the music category. Then just plays as music does. Anyone know if it is possible to import into the books category ?

    Thanks again for responding.
I had set iPhoto to Automatically Look up Places (see my original post).  I tried Old Toad's suggestion, and the data was there for some of the photos but not all.  I THINK I just missed the GPS icon in the camera's display (brand new camera & my first with GPS).  I have been able to import the GPS Data on my most recent photos, but as they're all taken at home I'm going to test that over the long weekend.  But my best guess is that I just hadn't grabbed a GPS signal yet.

  • Can only import one or two songs at a time from a cd into itunes

Please help. I had a new hard drive put into my imac flat panel g4. When I try to import music from a cd into itunes it closes or freezes itunes after one or two songs have been imported.

hmmmm. do you have any other USB 2.0 peripherals plugged in to the PC?
if so, try (experimentally) disconnecting them prior to a sync. (sometimes power drain through one port can affect an ipod connection on a different port.)
any improvement in sync performance if you try that?
    love, b

    Hey Haley.1182,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
After reviewing your post, it sounds like you are having trouble importing music into iTunes. A frustrating situation for sure. The first article should help get the music imported. The second article shows what formats are compatible with iTunes.

When I try to import songs from a CD into iTunes it can't find the titles online.  This wasn't a problem previously, now it is.  There is nothing wrong with my internet connection.  Any solutions?  Help says to try again later but no luck there.  I've tried multiple times with multiple CDs.

To answer the post title FireFox save all downloads automatically in the download folder, which you can find in the Documents folder. If you want to choose where to save your downloads go to tools>options>check always ask me where to save files.
Secondly, I am assuming you have IE 8 installed as this is the only version that supports this fix that is currently not in beta. Go to control panel>internet options>advanced tab and reset the settings at the bottom. This may or may not fix the problem but it is a good first step.

  • How do I get Video_TS.BUP, Video_TS IFO, Video_VOB files from A DVD into my Final Cut Po on mac.

Hi I have had VHS videos put onto DVDs but several videos are on one dvd. I am trying to separate them and put them on their own DVD.
There are Video_TS.BUP, Video_TS IFO, Video_VOB files. I have a prism converter so I converted the files to MP4 thinking I could then copy them into Final Cut Pro to edit etc but Final cut pro comes back with error message "File Error: Unknown file"
I tried converting to .mov but same message. Can any one help please.
    Louise

Actually, if you're not doing any editing beyond separating the different films and are willing to dive into a slightly deeper end of the pool, you can use mpeg streamclip to "demux" the dvds into m2v (video) and ac3 (audio) files and bring these files into dvdsp and set start and ends for each section to make individual dvds.  This will allow you to repurpose the material without any loss in quality.  If you convert the material from the dvd into quicktimes suitable for editing in fcp and then recompress them for authoring back to dvd, you will have some quality loss.  Whether the loss is enough to worry you, you'll have to decide for yourself.
If you want any further help with this workflow, post back.
