Recording compression "destructively" - Input Object?

My goal is to record some compression to disk "destructively," but leave the reverb, eq, etc. only for monitoring until final mixdown. Seems like a simple enough process in the manual, but I don't understand where to put the compressor insert. I am confused with input channel, input object, input source and audio track. Here's the manual explanation:
Page 298 of the ref manual states: "Example: To avoid large jumps in level, it is often useful to record a vocal track with light compression. To do so; insert a compressor plug-in into the input channel and assign the Input Object as the input source of an audio track. During recording, the effect of the compressor is recorded with the track."
In terms of a simple analog desk, you are processing an input, taking that output into another input, then adding verb, etc. But where in LP do you put that compressor, and how do you assign that output to the arrange window's tracks?
Someone help this poor man; I have stumped every Apple Store rep I have asked.
RCarbaugh

You can use a normal Audio track and for it´s Input you select e.g. Input 1 as your source (in the parameter window there is a window where you can assign any Audio object to your channel). You could also use an Aux object for the same purpose (in that case select input 1 in the little square above the fader). Then you insert a compressor in the channel strip like you would normally do and send it to the monitoring bus or output - done...

  • Input objects and software monitoring

    Okay, my set up:
    Macbook intel 1 gig RAM
    Edirol FA-66
    Lacie external drive for audio
    The issue:
    The edirol has a peak meter which is just a light that comes on when the signal is too high, however, Logic is still perfectly happy with it, which means I have been having to make a guestimate of when the edirol might peak when setting the record level before recording. You know the situation, you say "play as loud as you're going to play" and set the level, then they play louder during the recording (particularly difficult if your playing and recording yourself!)
    Anyhow, I worked out to put extra gain on the input objects for my interface in the environment so that, with software monitoring on, the level on logic mirrors almost exactly my interface when it peaks. Great.
    However, I don't always want software monitoring. I've managed to get the buffer size down to 128 now I'm using an external drive, but it still feels wrong even though the audible delay is miniscule. In any case I'm not interested in software monitoring, I've never needed or used it in the past and don't feel like starting now.
    Is it possible to use the input objects, with the extra gain, for recording without software monitoring? I did some tests and found that I couldn't monitor directly and record with the extra gain whilst seeing the level meters.
    Maybe I'm answering my own question...
    Here's another thing, my edirol has 4 outs. Could I use two of them to monitor my recording signal directly, whilst using the other two to monitor logic (with software monitoring on) through a mixer should I need it on to use the extra gain (and maybe mute the tracks whilst recording)?
    Sounds like extra hassle to me, but would love to know if anyone's tried this before I spend half a day trying it all out.

    Sorry for the lengthy post folks, but the good news is I solved it. It was obvious and I said it myself in my post - the mute button while recording and then no need for a mixer.
    Anyway, it turned out it was useful to write it all down!

  • Invalid segment length (LL) of [1804] in input object-Using J2C Connector

    Hello,
    I have been struggling with this issue for the past 1 week .I am using J2C Connector tools to generate beans that lets us to communicate to cobol programs.
    In cobol code we have declared LL as like this.
    05 LL PIC S9(4) COMP.
    05 ZZ PIC XX.
    Using J2C Connector tools for this cobol programs(input and output records) total 5 fils are generated. Those are
    InputRecord.java,OutputRecord.java,
    java beans:Interface1.java,Interface1Impl.java
    Command Bean: RetrieveDetails.java.
    Here on i am setting all screen values and IMS related stuff in inputrecord
    and executing with this input on commandbean object,then we will get the output record contains all the output data.
    Here the problem is when i am setting the LL value like this and executing i am getting the follwing error.
    InputRecord inputRocord = InputRecord();
    inputrecord.setL1((short) 1804);
    RetrieveDetails commandBean= RetrieveDetails();
    commandBean.set(inputrecord);
    commandBean.execute();
    javax.resource.ResourceException: ICO0024E: [email protected]ldInputMsg(Record)
    error. Invalid segment length (LL) of 19200 in input object. [email protected](byte[):
    And one more quetion is in set() method which type of parameter we can set?
    what i think is , 1804 is total length of variables of cobol file.is it right or not?
    Could anyone help me out this problem.Help would be greatly appreciated.Its very urgent..please.......
    if you drop a mail also to [email protected] would be better.
    Thanks in advance.

  • Input Objects relationship to PDF files size

    Is there a way to determine the footprint an input object makes to the final output file size(PDF)? Can this be done for the runtime delay aswell?

    On top of that - PNG stands for PORTABLE NETWORK GRAPHIC
    It is not intended for printing. It's primarily a RGB file (but it can have embedded cmyk profiles).
    Now I couldn't make a direct pdf file from photoshop, because the image
    has to be reduced and formatted in Indesign for a different book size.
    InDesign supports the placement of PDFs
    What do you mean by this? The image has to be reduced - in physical dimensions, megabytes?
    Formatted in InDesign for a different book? How are you formatting it in InDesign?
    Now I imported these 20 pages in Indesign, scaled them according to the
    size and margin requirements but when I export them doesn't matter which
    compression I use, medium, low or minimum.
    If you're going to use compression set it to Maximum
    Like this I will never be able to put 600 pages below the 100 mb limit.

    can i record through usb input with phono to usb cable or do i need a analogue to digital converter?

    Hello @8323,
    Welcome to the HP Forums, I hope you enjoy your experience! To help you get the most out of the HP Forums I would like to direct your attention to the HP Forums Guide First Time Here? Learn How to Post and More.
    I have read your post on how you are looking to record from an analogue input using recording software. I would be happy to assist you in this matter!
    Are you recording audio with an analogue device while your internal microphone is still enabled in the sound manager? Is a howl sound made when you are recording with only the built-in microphone? In the meantime, I recommend following the steps in this document on Resolving microphone problems (Windows 8), which should help enable your system to record a better quality of audio.
    Please re-post with the results of your troubleshooting, as well as the requested information above. I look forward to your reply!

    I want to compress the "non-image" objects (i.e pagragraph contents and not images) for the entire PDF file in the "Acrobat pro X" application manually and not with the tool.
    Please share me if you have any idea on this.

  • 1DC- Sound Recording via Line input woes

    Have the latest firmware update on my 1DC. There are 3 issues I am hoping someone can help with
    #1 I assume you must set Sound recording to 'Line input' and NOT manual, but if I set the Rec level, whenever the camera is powered off, either automatically or manually, this Rec level is ALWAYS reset to zero. Also, the moment recording is startted, even though audio input levels are set correctly, no audio is recorded. This seems like a firmware bug to me. This does NOT happen when set to manual. Anyone know of a workaround?
    When using Manual and plugging in an external audio source I assume this signal will override the audio from the camera's internal mic.
    If this is correct and there are no issues when using 'Manual', then what is the difference between 'Manual' and "Line input'??
    #2 When setting Sound input to Manual, the VU meters are visible, but NOT when set to Line input. Why?
    #3 Can anyone recommend a specific connector to go from line out on a Zoom H6 to Mic in on the 1DC?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    No. Apparently a buggy firmware release. My understanding is that there is another release planned soon. Hopefully with several new (and working) features in addition to the line input.
    Using Manual with a -25dB cable for now.

  • Recording line-level input with Griffin iMic

    I'm having trouble recording line-level input from a stereo system with a Griffin iMic. Even though all extraneous inputs have been deactivated, I'm still getting a slight feedback hum. There should be no extraneous noise whatsoever. I haven't done this in quite a while, so I've forgotten what I must do. Any help is apprreciated. Thanks very much. Peace,

    I'm trying to digitize an audio cassette with
    Soundtrack Pro. My setup includes a Griffin iMic
    that goes to a USB port. The trouble I'm having is
    in controlling the input volume. The level meters
    indicate clipping, but I'm not clear how to set the
    input level.
    If it's in the Recording tab (>Input) with the Gain
    slider, mine is greyed out.
    M Wohlgy,
    (I know this is months after your post.)
    Control of the iMic volume is in the Preferences pane called "Sound". You can set the output and the input levels there.
    Remember the iMic's position switch works only for the imput, either close to the microphone icon for "microphone" or away from it for "line in".
    I use the iMic exclusively.

  • Audio Input Objects not showing up

    I cannot see the Audio Input Objects in the Environment window. I can't even turn newly created audio objects into audio input objects, as the input channels are not listed on the audio object's parameter box (everything else seems to be listed: track, aux, instrument, rewire, output, and bus). And even when I go into the Track Mixer, INPUT is still not listed on the left column (the track filter). Am I missing something really obvious here? The Logic Express 7 reference manual doesn't seem to mention this problem. Can anyone help me with this one?

    There is no Audio Input Objetcs in LE.

  • ADF BC merge records of 2 view objects into third

    jdev 11.1.1.4
    Hi,
    1) how to merge records of 2 view objects into third view object?
    2) how to search inside view object whether the record already exists?
    I want to do this in AMImpl programmatically.

    hi I find that I can use something as below but it will check for each row at a time.
    String exp = "student_id=" + "'" + studentId.getValue() + "'" + " and " +
    "pass_word=" + "'" + password.getValue() + "'";
    vo.setWhereClause(exp);
    so if there are 10 records(to compare) i have to loop it 10 times(with company id and order id in exp) which i will be getting from some view.
    and have to execute query 10 times so i don't think this is a efficient approach.

  • Get-Acl : The input object cannot be bound to any parameters

    Hi I am trying to get a list of folder and permissions for network folders and I am getting the error Get-Acl : The input object cannot be bound to any parameters for the command either because the command does not take pipeline input or the input and its
    properties do not match any of the parameters that take pipeline input?
    $Files = "\\Server\Share"Get-ChildItem \\server\share| Where { $_.PSIsContainer } | Foreach {Get-Childitem $_.FullName} | Get-Acl $Files | Format-Table -property Owner | Where { $_.PSIsContainer } | Select-Object FullName, @{Name = 'AssociatedSecuirtyGroups'; Expression = {((Get-Acl $_).Access | ?{! $_.IsInherited} | Select-Object -ExpandProperty IdentityReference) -join ', '}}

    It looks like you're mixing up some actions in that line of code.  The first Get-ACL is receiving pipeline input of all of the grandchildren of $Files, but you're also giving it the $Files parameter - that's your error.
    You're also formatting output in the middle of the pipeline, I don't think that's going to work out well for you.  When you run get-acl you also lose the directory name, so the fullname attribute is meaningless at that point.
    Maybe try something more like this:
    $Root = "\\Server\Share"
    $Results = @()
    $Folders = Get-ChildItem $Root -exclude *.* | Foreach {Get-Childitem $_ -exclude *.*} | select fullname
    Foreach ($Folder in $Folders) {
    $ACL = Get-Acl $Folder.FullName
    Foreach ($Group in $ACL.Access) {
    If (!($Group.IsInherited)) {$Results += New-Object PSObject -Property @{Folder=$Folder.FullName;Group=$Group.IdentityReference;Owner=$ACL.Owner}}
    $Results
    Note that with Powershell v4 there's a -directory parameter for Get-ChildItem that would be better than this exclude.  I work with older systems so I use older PS to avoid any pitfalls.  In this case, if you have any files without extensions in those
    subdirectories you'll pick those up as well.

  • Deleting records from the Custom Objects

    Hello all,
    We want to delete all records from a custom object and as there is no 'Batch Delete' functionality on it, we are thinking of other ways to delete all the records. One of the possibilities is to delete all the records by hand, which will be very time consuming, but this might become the best option. Another option is to use webservices to delete the records, but to do so, you will have to write a kind of program that will query for the records and then deletes them. Does anyone have another option or does anyone have written such a tool that I can use to delete the records from the Custom Object?
    Kind regards,
    Niels Rekers
