  • Recording Audio with iPod Nano - Request Software Stereo Monitor

I'm posting this message hoping that an Apple employee will read it...
The iPod Nano used in conjunction with the Belkin TuneTalk Stereo adapter turns the Nano into an excellent solid-state 16bit / 44.1KHz digital audio recorder. However, there is no visual indication that audio is being recorded on the Nano when recording is initiated - no stereo audio monitor with a volume indicator bar for the left & right channels is present. Most audio recording applications provide a left & right stereo volume indicator bar to display real-time audio clipping or low input volume... colored green at the bottom, yellow near the top, and red at the very top for audio clipping when the input volume is too loud.
While I understand that the main purpose of the iPod is for audio playback, I would ask Apple to include a stereo audio monitor in an upcoming iPod software update (soon). Perhaps as a starting point, you can borrow code for the live equalizer monitor that appears at the top of the iTunes window when the little right-arrow is pressed in the virtual LCD screen area.
While I have had no problems to date recording on the iPod Nano, it would be reassuring to know that the device is actually recording audio. It would be unfortunate to record an hour-long interview believing everything is fine, but then discover that no audio had been recorded. The presence of a stereo audio monitor would help deter this fear.
    Thank you.
    Sincerely,
    Jaspo

  • Recording problems with ipod nano - too many voices reading audiobook

I have tried listening to two audiobookks on my ipod nano (6G) but the reader's voice  is subject to an identical part-second later echo which makes it all but impossible to understand what he is saying - any suggestions as to the cause of this fault and (hopefully) how to remedy it - thanks,        Peter

  • Recording Vocals On iPod Touch For Garage Band etc?

When using the 'app' 'Garage Band' I want to be able to record people singing in a group and singles. I know there's a built in mic but, I understand this records ambient surrounding sounds. The iPod Touch doens't come with a plug in mic/headphone (headphone combination for 'monitoring') so, I was wondering which one to buy that will give great recording of vocal singing and podcasting? (I think it's called a Uni-Directional mic)
    Thank you

two weeks and no one gives a reply!  Oh, well, I'll answer it myself now:
You can buy a good quality headphone lead that has a microphone built in. It's available on this website from Apple! (be careful not to let the mic rub on clothing collars or it'll pick up the sound!

  • Does the ipod nano can record sounds?

Does the iPod nano can record sounds connecting "headphones with microphone"?

    Hi uptight,
Yes, the iPod Nano does support MP4 files.
You can find more information about the files the iPod supports here: http://www.apple.com/ipodnano/specs.html
You can convert many videos right from iTunes. This article: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1211 will walk you through the process with sample files.

  • Is it possible I can saved my recorded videos from my ipod nano to PC?

my brother has an iPod Nano (5th Gen) and wants ALL of his recorded videos saved on a PC and saved on my iPod Touch (2nd Gen).... is it possible i can do that?

Yes. See here: iPod nano (5th generation): How to copy your recorded videos to a PC

  • Ipod  Nano recording level

Is there a way to control recording level? My ipod nano records too low.
    How would I record Higher?

At this point, the software people with iPods purchased in EU countries were using to remove the cap do not work on the 2nd gen nano. No word on when it will. So other than maxing your volume limiter and trying more expensive earphones there really isn't anything you can do right now.

  • Highly Annoyed: No iTunes Support for iPod Nano 5's (new) Recording Ability

Re iPod Nano 5th: does anyone else out there find it to be a p-ss-off that, now that it records videos, voice and steps (well-done!), the iTunes application gives little or no support for any of them? Clear to me: iPod WAS just a playback machine, and iTunes fed it the media, one-way only. But the Nano 5th is now a 3-part recorder, and is Apple going to change iTunes or supplement it to make it a two-way application? Disk use doesn't cut it - and often conflicts with use of the iTunes Sync button (which I use for my songs library). Cases-in-point: I've taken camera videos that I can no longer find on my iPod, even though their files are still in the iPod DCIM folder! For Voice 'memos' (great for recording just about any dialogue or talk), I have first to make sure that the playlist "Voice Memos" in my iTunes library has the same 5 recordings I have on and want to keep on my iPod before I do a manual Sync to transfer the CD songs I've just added to iTunes and want on my iPod. I have spent hours trying to establish a 'disk use' method get back a recording that's disappeared from the iPod's Recordings folder (done by iTunes without my say-so).
Because I'm new to using iPod and iTunes, I've turned to the 104-page User Guide for the Nano 5th. Is anyone else annoyed that it's upbeat language completely skirts Apple's gaping hole of incompleteness in software support for the new recording functions of Nano 5th? Is it dishonest? Pity the Apple underlings forced to write it, knowing Apple iPod execs f--ked up by failing to develop iTunes/software support in tandem with the new iPod wizardry. Back to my question: is this bugging anyone else, and do you have any insight to lend me?

I will check out Apple Knowledge Base though. URL is?

*The Apple staff are unlikely to help me with "all my issues"* if they lead me thru indirect ways to manage camera videos and recordings and not thru dedicated software that Apple has overlooked to develop along with the Nano 5th.
You will not know this until you get there. If you do not want to march on down to the store then call iPod support.
"Complaining" in these forums is falling on deaf ears. Apple will not respond nor do they read these postings because these are user-to-user forums where everyday folk post questions and offer answers to each other.
If you have a problem with the way Apple has intergrated the iPod Nano with iTunes, post them on Apple's Product Feedback website.

  • Ipod nano 6th: no voice recorder despite headphones with microphone

    Hi there!
I have got an ipod nano 6th that is working ok, but when I use my headset with microphone, the voice recorder app still does not show up. It can't be the headphones as 1) I have tried several ones with microphones on the nano and none makes the app appear, 2) the very same headphones manage to trigger appearence of voice recorder in other ipods. So it must me my ipod nano. Any ideas, suggestions, experiences? BTW: it used to work in the past on this nano...so no idea why it stopped.
    Thanks!
    Bettina

    Hello Bettina,
I would be concerned too if the Voice Memos app stopped appearing on my iPod nano.  I found some steps I recommend to troubleshoot an issue like this.
First, I recommend verifying that the Voice Memos icon is set to be visible on your iPod nano.  If you go to Settings>General>Home Screen, make sure you see the switch set to On next to Voice Memos. You can find more information about this on page 15 in the iPod nano (6th generation) User Guide.
If you are still not able to see the Voice Memo icon after verifying that, I recommend resetting your iPod nano (from page 52 of the iPod nano User Guide):
    Reset iPod nano:
First, make sure iPod nano is charged. Then press the Sleep/Wake button and the Volume Down button for 6 seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
The final step would be to restore your iPod nano if Voice Memos is still not appearing.  You can find steps to do this on page 56 of the User Guide.
You can find the iPod nano (6th generation) User Guide here:

  • New iPod nano have voice recorder?

Does the new iPod nano have a voice recorder?

Just like the 4th, 5th, 6th, and now 7th generation ipod nanos, when you plug in supported headphones (with a microphone) a new 'app' shows up on the home screen: voice memos this allows you to record audio through the headphones mic. unfortunely, you will have to buy new headphones/earplugs to use this feature.
if you dont want to buy new headphones, you can find external mic's to use instead. the 3.5mm plug must have 4 pins to use the voice memo's feature.

  • Recording onto iPod nano 3rd Gen?

I was recently flipping through folders on my iPod, and I came across a folder that said "recordings". Does this mean my iPod nano 3rd Gen is capable of recording directly?
    Any help appreciated =]

Thank you for the reply, however, I'm using APPLE; 10.5..... op system.  I have been using this ipod with this APPLE comp for  a few years--- I read somewhere that the mobile device could be auto turned off somehow.  If I DO follow the directions for the uninstall..do I lose all my songs, etc when I put the itune.app in the trash and re-install?

  • Vocals diminish to almost nothing - ipod nano 3G

I have been struggling with the vocals on my new ipod nano. It had been working just fine and then all of a sudden the sound becomes distorted and the vocals almost completely disappear. It has been reset and restored. It is still doing the same thing. Not all songs are doing it, but 85% of them are. It is definitely not worth listening to. Any suggestions? If I can't fix it myself I will return it. I would like to be able to fix it since we live in a rural area and returning it is not as simple as driving to the store! Also, I have tried three different earphones, and it is the same with each pair.
Any help would be most appreciated. Thank you!

Have you tried it with another headphone? The vocal disappearing sounds like the signal is out of phase, and whatever is panned in the center of the stereo spectrum cancels out (since the same sound is on both left and right and they are out of phase of each other). Stereo sounds or sounds happening not directly in the center aren't affected. It sounds more like a headphone symptom than anything else. What you're describing is usually cause by wires, not electronics, so make sure the headphones don't have a short.

  • Recording live music on 2nd Gen ipod nano

    Greetings-
I recently purchased a 2nd Gen ipod nano 4 gig. I'd like to be able to record live music, then load it in my computer. I obviously don't expect CD quality, just decent enough playback to be able to replay the music on my computer (using the Amazing Slow Downer, for example) to learn new tunes.
I would typically take it to an Irish music session, record the musicians then go home and try and learn the tunes.
    Suggestions for a microphone?
Is this done through the memo function of the ipod?
If y'all have experience doing that kind of thing, I'd appreciate your kind advice.

As Lougoose and others have said, the "Music Videos" folder is simply there by default in the iTunes software, and does not have to do with your nano having the ability to play videos or not.
If you'd like to let Apple know about this, as a possible feature in a future update of iTunes or iPod firmware, write your suggestion on these Feedback forms:

  • Voice Recording - Ipod Nano 3rd Gen

    Hi,
Recently, i saw a mini microphone in the market. At the back of the packaging, it said "This accessory is compatible with iPhone, iTouch, iPod Nano and iPod Classic by installing iTalk Recorder or Easy Recorder".
The dealer had confired that it can be used on iPod 3rd Gen so i was so excited that my ipod finally has voice recording function. I'd downloaded both app with iTune but it cant be sync/installed to my iPod Nano...
Can anyone pls assist me on this critical issue because i need a 2-in-1 mp3+voice recorder?

Thank you for the reply, however, I'm using APPLE; 10.5..... op system.  I have been using this ipod with this APPLE comp for  a few years--- I read somewhere that the mobile device could be auto turned off somehow.  If I DO follow the directions for the uninstall..do I lose all my songs, etc when I put the itune.app in the trash and re-install?

  • HT1351 I have a Ipod Nano 5th edition and I can no longer sync, add or view my previously recorded music to itunes or windows. What can I do?

I have a Ipod Nano 5th edition. 2 years ago I imported and exported my music files to my Windows 7 laptop and also to Itunes. It worked great. Recently I've tried to do the same and now I can't do either. When I plug in my ipod it is discoverable but I cannot view my music at all. I tried to sync new music I burned from CD's to the ipod, I keep getting a message that the music is already on it but it's not. It's updated, settings I believe are set correct and troubleshooting it, it reports no problems.  I don't know what else to do. Need Help!  Thank you in advance.

    Hey 9Cre114,
I would try out restoring your iPod nano, that might resolve the issue. Restoring erases the iPod's disk and restores iPod to its original factory condition. You can read about how to do so here:
Warning: Because restoring erases all the songs and files on iPod, back up any files you've saved on the iPod disk. All of your songs, videos, podcasts, audiobooks, and games can be loaded back to your iPod provided that you have them stored in your iTunes Library. If you use the Nike + iPod Sport Kit, see this document for more information.
    How to restore iPod
Verify that you have an active Internet connection, because you may need to download new versions of the iTunes and iPod Software.
Download and install the latest version of iTunes if necessary.
Open iTunes. Connect your iPod to your computer using the USB or FireWire cable that came with your iPod.
After a few moments, your iPod will appear in the Source panel in iTunes.
Select your iPod in the Source panel. You will see information about your iPod appear in the Summary tab of the main iTunes window.
    Click Restore.
If you are using a Mac, you will be asked to enter an administrator’s name and password.
A progress bar will appear on the computer screen, indicating that stage one of the restore process has begun. When this stage is done, iTunes will present one of two messages with instructions specific to the iPod model you are restoring.
Disconnect iPod and connect it to iPod Power Adapter (typically applies to older iPod models).
Leave iPod connected to computer to complete restore (typically applies newer iPod models).
During stage two of the restore process, the iPod displays an Apple logo as well as a progress bar at the bottom of the display. It is critical that the iPod remain connected to the computer or iPod power adapter during this stage.
Note: The progress bar may be difficult to see, because the backlight on the iPod display may be off.
After stage two of the restore process is complete, the iTunes Setup Assistant window will appear. It will ask you to name your iPod and choose your syncing preferences, as it did when you connected your iPod for the first time.
