Recording with a mic

i pluged my mic into my computer and i cant quite get it to record unless i yell into the mic..how do i adjust the volume so i can record singing and guitar at the same time thank you

You may be able to get a little more volume by turning the recording level up. Command+i to show track info and right under input source and monitor.
More then likely you will need some type of interface a mixer or a digital interface. This will also make it easier for you to record vocal and guitar to separate tracks when recording at the same time.

I get a terrible noise on the audiotracks recording with Apogee Mic in Garageband on iPhone 4S and iPad 3rd generation, both have IOS 6 installed.
Apogee support have not been helpfull, neither Google, but maybe you guys have experienced the same problem?
I tried to test on an iPhone 4 with IOS 5 installed and it worked fine, clean recordings, no noise.

Well, I think I fixed the noise issues myself.
Have you ever noticed the noise from your stereo speakers when you recieve a sms?
Well, the noise I experienced all the time was that kind of 'sms noise'.
What seems to eliminate the problem is this:
In settings,
- turn "Airplane mode" off
- turn "Do not disturb" off (this is a new setting in IOS 6)

Voiceover recording with Logitec mic

On a Final Cut project: When recording a voiceover, the audio track records a random thud when using the voiceover function with a Logitec mic. This happens unless I reduce the input volume to below optimum levels. Can you suggest some possible adjustment fixes? Input is set at AK5370
Rate is 44100Hz.

Problem recording with a mic in flash 9.0.124.0

Hi, I just wanted to see if someone can help me with this
issue. I'm using Ubuntu Gutsy with Mozilla Firefox 2.0.0.16 (in
case this has some relevance). I can see flash videos, I can hear
sounds, everything works fine, everywhere. But when I try to record
audio in some pages (using a mic), even if I can use the mic
outside, and even if Flash recognizes the mic as being connected,
it doesn't work. I can shout next to the mic and Flash won't show
any sign of "hearing" anything (the yellow bar next to the control
doesn't show). :(

Don't mean to shoot the messenger...so please take this in

I'd gladly log a bug if anything was ever done about it. I've
been logging bugs with Adobe on Flash player and Flex for two years
but these bugs are still outstanding and deferred to the next
release :). Releases come and go but the issues are outstanding.
These issues are show stoppers for a lot of people.
I see no point in me taking the extra effort if nothing is
going to be done about it. Other software companies I work with
respond immediately.
Others, won't see the issue unless they're doing what we are
:). Things were working fine until we upgraded to the new player.
To me that's an issue that needs to be addressed no?
I'd gladly provide you with two links, one that shows this
issue and one that does not if it helps verify the problem.

Audio recording with external mic

Hi,
I have a problem that's become a real issue for me. I record meetings from the end of a conference table and have used a Dell in the past. I have a great little external mic called Sound Grabber. However, when I try to use it on my Mac, the volume quality is not adequate. I feel like the Mac really doesn't recognize the external mic and wants to default to the internal mic all the time, and that doesn't cover a conference room by any means. I've tried other mics and had the same issue, so I'm sure it's not the mic. I've also seen similar complaints from other users, but no one has come up with an explanation or solution.
This function is vital to my job and lack of quality recording forces me back to the Dell every time. Can anyone help me get this figured out so I can stick with the Mac?

Is there a difference between mono & stereo when recording with single mic?

When creating an audio track to record vocals through a single condenser mic, is there a difference between selecting mono or stereo? if so, what's the difference?

Assuming your source is mono, there will be no sonic difference, and recording to a stereo Logic track will simply waste disk space. If you have a stereo microphone (i.e. it's actually a pair of mics packaged together), then it makes sense to record in stereo. If you're using a standard single microphone, record to a mono Logic track.

Cannot record with external mic pavilion dv970

I get no sound when trying to record using an external mic pluged into the mic jack. I have tested the mic that i'm using on another pc and it works ok. The pc's internal mic can pick up the recording ok as well. help!

You may need to go to Control Panel under Sounds and change the default input from the internal to external mic.

I want to do shows with my sister and I want to use two mics. Or do I need to use two mics? I
We tried using my one Logitec Desktop usb mic but her voice was very low.
I don't want to spend more than $150.. my current setup:
1.42 GHz Power PC G4 eMac
two Logitech USB Desktop mics
GarageBand 3
That's it.
I tried Line In and Soundflower to do this a while ago and got this awful reverb effect.
Any tips and help are appreciated.

Recording with a mic in garageband (macbook pro)

I used to plug a mic into an adapter, then into my old macbook's input jack. However, my new macbook pro doesn't have a spot for the same jack. Will I need a new adapter? If so what kind and where does it plug in?

Under sound settings and input I have it set to "Line in", and under audio in I have it set to "sound input" When I switch it to "sound output" whatever music I'm listening to comes out of the mic, so I know the mic isn't the issue, but still no audio going in.

Stereo recording with external mic in iMovie

Hey everybody
So, this question has probably been up before but I cant´t figure it out.
First:
I want to make a video and live recording of one of my new songs using iMovie.
I use a KM 184 condeser microphone through a duet audio interface. I can see here that there is sound on both output channels (stereo) also in logic pro and garageband.
Problem:
Choosing microphone input in iMovie I only get left channel signal, that is NO stereo sound.
I want to use one microphone but I can´t figure out how to get a stereo song in iMovie. Any ideas on this matter???

Try this - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)

Track goes silent when recorded with external mic

Hello,
I have a Rode Stereo Videomic plugged into a griffin Imic which is plugged into the line in port on the back of my Imac.
it sounds fantastic.
only problem is. when I record a track. I can see that it recorded, but when I try to play it I can't hear it.
in order to hear it I have to quit and re open garage band... EVERY TIME. very frustrating.
on top of that. I have to unplug and replug the Imic into my computer every time I open garage band in order to detect it.
any suggestions?

No sound in PE 11 for video recorded in "focus" mic setup

I just purchased a Panasonic X900M camcorder and Adobe Premiere Elements 11. The Panasonic X900M allows the user to setup the internal microphone in various ways. The
default setting is "surround" which records the sound in 5.1 channel surround. Another setting is "focus" which records the sound in front more clearly. When I add a video
clip recorded in "surround" into a PE 11 project, the audio works fine. But if I add a video clip recorded in "focus" into a PE 11 project, there is no audio. Both clips are recorded in an identical manner (fully automatic mode, 1080/60p resolution) except for the mic setup. Also, both video clips play fine (with audio) in Elements Organizer (i.e., double-click on the clip) and Windows Media Player. The audio portion of the file properties for both files are identical as shown
below:
Bit rate: 256kbps
Channels: 2 (stereo)
Audio sample rate: 48kHz
Why does PE 11 not play sound for the clip recorded with a mic setup of "focus"?

Not knowing that camera, my question would be which Audio channels in the file, are being used. Some cameras can record to different Audio channels (some Sony pro models), and record, under certain settings, to channels 3 & 4, rather than 1 & 2. In those instances, Premiere (Pro, or Elements) will not be picking up the signal in channels 3 & 4. In those cases, one workflow is to basically convert the file from having the Audio Stream on 3 & 4, and moving them to channels 1 & 2. I do not know if this is the problem here, but would explore the exact channel placement of the muxed (combined, or Multiplexed Audio & Video Streams), in a program, like MediaInfo, to see which channels are used.

I need to know if theres a way to record with a mic over tracks using MediaSOurce.. I know I can record using the mic alone but is there a way to have a track playing using the media player and record the vocals over it to where it all becomes one track. If so what recording source would I use.. Any help would be great

Go into the Creative mixer and select What-U-Hear as the recording source. Then un-mute mic and whatever else you want to mix (e.g., Wave).

Importing to iMovie: How do I use an external usb mic when recording with the built-in FaceTime HD Camera?

Hello all
I'm scheduled to work with a friend this week; I'm going to help him make a simple audition DVD. I promised him I had the necessary equipment and such.
I was importing from the webcam using iMovie. If I can't use my external mic to record for the video, there is more involved in the editing process. I was hoping to record the video and audio into one package. I'm using the built-in FaceTime webcam on my macbook pro and a ZoomH1 on usb.
I've tried changing the audio in system preferences: input to H1. This works when recording with audacity or anything else. I even changed the input on FaceTime to H1. There aren't any preferences I can find in iMovie to change the input for importing video directly from the webcam.
How do I change the audio input for direct import on iMovie?

Is there something else I can do to have HD video and HQ audio captured in one video file on my macbook pro?
I suppose I can record the video and audio separately but that is usually much more involved. This is why I got this usb microphone lol.

I just found using QuickTime Player to record a movie works great. I can easily change the audio input. iMovie is silly. lol

Issue with 2 mics when recording Garageband podcast

Hi,
I have two Blue Snowball mics set up in the aggregate devices of garageband but I can only chose stereo 1 & 2 and not Stereo 3 & 4 (which doesn't show up at all) when enabling multitrack recording while podcasting.
Surprisingly, when I first set it up, both Stereo 1 & 2 and Stereo 3 & 4 showed up and I could record using two mics. However as I tried to do another podcast after shutting down Garageband, stereo 3 & 4 disappeared. (Even after setting it all up in the audio midi application).
How do I resolve this?

GarageBand (1) only supports a single track at a time for recording. You could do what you want in GB2, up to 8 audio tracks (and 1 MIDI track) at the same time.
GB2 really is a great upgrade from version 1, but if you're determined to stick with version 1 you could record the 1 stereo track, then copy the region to a second track, set the pan on each and the EQ on each. This would be the easiest method, you could get more complex, but this should work well enough.
