Recover erased photos or find a history of changes?

Hi - I used Dup Finder (plugin) to  find duplicate pictures in my LR catalog.  I then erased them through Lightroom.  what I didn't realize is that Dup Finder puts both the otiginal file and the duplicate in a smart collection.  I errased everything from that folder, so now I have missing photos and I don't know all the file names.  Is there any way to recover these photos or at the very least find a history of changed to a catalog or collection (I have online backups of my photos, so if I know the file name, I can get them).  THANKS!

Oh dear, definitely worth reading the instructions in future.
Do you have a backup catalog that had all of the duplicate photos?  If so, you could run the duplicate finder plug-in on a copy of the backup catalog, and then you'd have a list of the missing photos.

No.  When you removed the photos via the finder you damage the library.  Photos should always be removed from the library using iPhoto, never with the Finder.
If you have a Time Machine backup of the library from before you deleted the photos you can restore the library to the Desktop and export that album from it to import into your current library.
It's been too long to be able to try one of the file recovery applications.  You sure to have overwritten those files with new files since them.

  • How do I find my history of sent e-mail photos from iPhoto?

I have been using iPhoto to send e-mails with iPhoto attachments straight fromiPhoto library using the Shar button. I can find no History fo sent e-mails.
Where would I find the list of Sent e-mails. It is not on Mail.
    Many thanks. Henry

There isn't one. iPhoto is a handy way of sending snaps to grandma it's not a fully fledged email application.
In the iPhoto preferences there's an option to always bcc yourself.
In the Info pane, Photos that have been emailed from iPhoto have a heading for that:

  • I sent e-mail photos from iPhoto using my @me account but I do not find the history of sent e-mails in my new iCloud account. Where can I find the history of sent e-mails?

I sent e-mail photos from iPhoto using my @me account but I do not find the history of sent e-mails in my new iCloud account. Where can I find the history of sent e-mails?

Using iPhoto as the email client in iPhoto does not creatge a sent copy.  iPhoto indicates in the Info drawer if a photo was emailed by iPhoto (under the Sharing section):
There's no easy way to search for photos that have been emailed. Each photo has to be inspected via the Info tray.
One could add a keyword to emailed photos which would let a smart album keep track of those photos.
A better solution, IMO, is to set Mail as the email client (in iPhoto's General preference pane) and use it.  That will give you an sent copy, better access to your contacts and, if you want a theme, numerous photo themes under the Stationary section of Mail.

  • Had to erase HD, is there any chance in recovering iPhoto photos

Had to erase my hard drive and was unable to back up, is there any chance I can recover iphoto photos? I was able to copy most of my hard drive to an external but am unable to locate if there were any photos that made it.

File Salvage - you can download a free trial and it will scan the disk for you and tell you with might be recoverable. Actual recovery will require that you purchase the app. There may be many files with the same or similar names. Always recover the largest file size.
There are other such apps. Search on Macupdate or the App Store

I just Synced My iPhone 6 which had close to 2000 photos to a new computer (windows PC) and synced with iTunes. Now all my previous photos have been deleted which were there on my phone. Please suggest a way to recover those Photos . Thanks
P.S -I have not taken any backup of those photos. So please suggest any software or any other method.

If those photos were part of the camera roll, they were part of the backup as well and you can restore from the latest backup you made on the old computer. After that transfer the photos to the new PC, follow this article: iOS: Importing personal photos and videos from iOS devices to your computer
Then sync again to the new one, which will erase the phone again.
You can also try to copy the backup folder from the old computer to the new one and see if the old backups get recognized, check this article to find the location on your PC:
Create and delete iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch backups in iTunes
If the photos were not taken with the phone, your data is gone, photos you sync from iTunes to the phone are not included in the backup.

  • Is there any way to recover deleted photos, etc after a sync?  iTunes didn'

let me say I hate that Apple software tends to give a button to push w/o options or other vital information. It's an example of making things too simple.
I synced my new iPhone with the older iPhone it replaced - not knowing it would delete everything off the old phone. I'm most wanting my photos back. I've tried downloading 3rd party data-recovery software, but it never seems to find the iPhone like it finds external cards or cameras.
Please, Please, is there some app that will work to recover deleted photos? And I think I will never trust Apple software again!

I synced my new iPhone with the older iPhone it replaced - not knowing it would delete everything off the old phone.
It is not possible to sync one iPhone with another.
You can transfer the backup for an older or existing iPhone to a new iPhone but doing so does not touch or delete anything off the older or existing iPhone. There is no device limit for the number of iPhones that can be synced with the same iTunes library and iTunes account on the same computer and each iPhone can have its own sync preferences with iTunes. Syncing one iPhone with iTunes does not touch any data on another iPhone.
Photos in the iPhone's Camera Roll can and should be imported by your computer as with any other digital camera. Photos in the Camera Roll are not touched during the iTunes sync process except for being included with the iPhone's backup which is updated by iTunes as the first step during the iTunes sync process. The only way to delete all photos from the iPhone's Camera Roll is by using the iPhone's Erase All Content and Settings option, or by restoring the iPhone with iTunes as a new iPhone or not from your iPhone's backup. If you restore the iPhone with iTunes from your iPhone's backup, the photos that were in the Camera Roll would be restored along with all other data that is included with the backup.
Syncing one iPhone with iTunes does not touch any data on another iPhone that is synced with iTunes on the same computer and it is impossible to sync one iPhone direct with another iPhone.

  • I lost my iphone and need to recover my photos

I lost my iphone 5c and don't know how to recover my photos from Photo Stream. When I had it I did the backup on the phone every month and now that I'm installing Icloud on my laptop it only shows like 10 pictures but I had many many more!
Also my contacts are not complete, it only shows a few of them!
When I lost it, I selected the option to 'erase my phone' but I have checked everyday and the phone is still offline. Is this affecting?
What do I need to do? I really want to recover my photos
    Thank you!

Your backup only includes camera roll photos (and videos), it does not include photo stream photos.  Also, photo stream photos only remain in iCloud for 30 days, allowing sufficient time for your devices/computers to download them.  When you set up iCloud on your computer, you can only access photos that were uploaded in the last 30 days, which is why you only see your newest photo stream photos and not the older ones.
You can recover your camera roll photos by restoring the backup to another iPhone (or iPod touch).  Be aware, however, that if the backup is an iCloud backup, Apple will delete it after 180 days of inactivity so you'll need to restore it before it's deleted.
Your phone being offline in Find My iPhone doesn't have anything to do with this.  It only means that it isn't turned on and connected to the internet.  Put it in lost mode if you haven't already done so (see http://help.apple.com/icloud/#/mmfc0f0165).  You might also want to read this: If your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch is lost or stolen.
Finally, if you don't see all of your contacts on iCloud.com it may be because some of them were being synced from another service such as Google or Yahoo rather than iCloud.  If that's the case, you can find them by checking your account there.

  • Help!! I need to recover my photos on my failed iMac hard disk

I need some help in recovering my photo's on a failed imac hard disk......
The history to this is that I received the cursed flashing folder with a question mark (?) when I tried to boot into my normal OSX Maverck on my imac - I researched this and there was a possibility of a hard disk error.
I booted off the Mac OSX Snow Leopard CD to access Disk Utility to see if I could repair the hard disk - no luck! I couldn't repair it.
I then installed a new version of OSX Snow Leopard on a external hard disk connected to the Imac through the USB - I then upgraded this version of OSX Snow Leopard to OSX Maverick. This allowed me to reboot the Imac off the external version OSX Maverick. I could subsequently see the failed hard disk on File Manager and have access to all the files on the main account. I don't however have access to other accounts (my wife's) where I store my photo's as there is a folder with a red minus sign denying me permission - I tried to change permission on these accounts but when I right click on the folder and select "Get Info" the permissions tab is greyed out denying me the ability to change permissions.
How do I change permissions on the failed hard disk from my external copy of OSX Maverick? How do I get access to those files so I can receover the photo's?
My ulitmate goal is to recover all the information on the failed hard dsik so that I can reformat the hard disk.
By the way, I tried recovering the photo's using Time Machine but the last history I have is December 2011 which is 2.5 years out of date - something must have gone wrong! I don't want to receover this and lose the most recent photo's on the failed hard disk. Another question with Time Machine - if I perform a back-up today, will I be able to recover the data after I reformat the hard disk - my worry is that I'll only be able to get back to where I man now which is not being able to access the data on the folders that I don;t have permission on.
I really appreciate the groups assistance.
    Lightning_rabbit

I can think of several ways to get the files off.
One is to create a root (super user account) user whcih will have access to everything. Another thing is to duplicate the other accounts that were on the failed drive on the new one and then log in as that user and move them over.
A link to create the root user is here:

  • Is there a way to recover deleted photos from Lightroom?

    Hi,
I recently lost pictures from my hard drive and I don't know how but I had deleted or removed the pictures from Lightroom as well. The catalog name still shows up on Lightroom but it shows that there are "0" pictures in the folder. Any advice on this?
    Thanks!

Your photos were never in Lightroom; Lightroom only displays thumbnails (called previews) of your photos. Thus, at best you can only recover the previews, which will be smaller sized and lower quality than the original photos. In order for that to work, you need to find a catalog file that displays the previews (the catalog with 0 pictures in it won't help). Look under File->Open Recent and see if you can find a catalog file which displays these previews. If you find such a catalog file, you can recover the previews via a plug-in
In general, to recover lost photos you should:
    1. Restore from the Trash/Recycle Bin if they are in there
    2. Restore from backups of your photos
    3. If you don't have backups of your photos ... why not? ... you need to begin making regular and automated backups of your photos AND catalog file to a different hard disk, no excuses ...
    4. Try an "undelete utility" which may be able to recover deleted files ... there are free ones available ... if you get down to this step, do not perform any other tasks on your computer except find and use this program
    5. If that doesn't work, recover previews from Lightroom

  • I can't open my iphoto library on an external disk (78 gb ntfs); if i copy the files on the iMac the file is smaller and not usable. how can i recover my photo?

    hi all,
i'm using the last version of iPhoto and i save my library on a western digital external USB drive; the drive is formatted in NTFS; i usually use tuxera to access and browse the files.
Unfortunately, i don't know why, i access this drive in read only mode, so iPhoto doesn't accept the library any more; i tried to copy the library on the iMac but the copied file is really smaller (54 gb instead on the 78 on the drive), and iphoto doesn't accept it.
i need to find a solution and to recover my library, i've no other copies?!
tuxera doesn't open any other ntfs drive i think the problem is there, but i have to finf other solutions to recover my photos.
thank you all for any suggestion.

This problem is entirely due to this:
the drive is formatted in NTFS
iPhoto needs to have the Library sitting on disk formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled). Users with the Library sitting on disks otherwise formatted regularly report issues including, but not limited to, importing, saving edits and sharing the photos.
Do you get any error messages when you try and copy the file back to your Mac?
Do you have a back up?

I did not use ICloud or any storage and did not make any sync before.
Is there any Trash Can in Iphone in order to find them? I am dumb and I did not think about save them before connect to PC.

Your photos are gone.  They were wiped when you restored your phone.  There is no "trash can".
You obviously don't understand how to use the iPhone properly.  Attached is a link to the iPhone User guide.  I suggest you read through it to avoid data loss in the future.
