Recover osx documents thru Boot Camp?? HELP PLEASE
I´ve just installed windows 7 with bootcamp. Now i cant boot osx anymore. When i start my mac, the apple logo shows up, then a loadingbar underneath. When the loadingbar is full, the mac turns off. What to do? And of course i didnt remember to backup my mac -.-´
I noticed that i can enter the osx partition thru ¨my computer¨ in boot camp, but there is no documents there of course, just program files. So anyone know if there is anyway i can recover any of my osx documents? Got some garageband and iMovie projects and some pictures i would like to save...

VMware Fusion vs. Parallels (with Boot Camp) -- help please!
Hello. I have just reinstalled Mac OS X (Leopard) on my MacBook and am looking to install Windows XP SP2. I will be installing a Boot Camp partition -- I know that much -- but I also want to use Parallels or Fusions so that I have the option of running the Boot Camp partition within OS X. Somehow, over my years as a Mac user, I have acquired both of these applications (Fusion and Parallels), and I was wondering if anyone has any information on the differences between the two. Two questions:
1.) As I just mentioned, I'm just looking for any information on the differences between the two apps -- what features one offers that the the other doesn't -- why I might want to choose one over the other -- and so forth.
2.) Since I have both apps, would it be possible to have both installed at the same time? In other words, could I have both Fusion and Parallels installed on my computer, and then, when it comes time to open Windows, choose which app I want to open and use? (not sure there'd be any point to this, but just in theory, could it be done?)

Anyways, they look about the same (Parallels and Fusion, that is) for anything I'd be concerned with, but where there were any differences, they seemed to work in favor of Parallels (except for Linux-related features, in which Fusion seemed to have the upper hand, but I don't use Linux). Can vmware run on Boot Camp?Please Help as soon as possible
I recently installed vista ultimate through vmware, but is it possible in any way to boot this vista OS I installed through vmware fusion through boot camp?
Please help as soon as someone finds a certain answer.
ThanksRunning Windows (Vista or XP) is somewhat slower in virtualization than in BootCamp. If this is an important issue for you - and particularly if you are going to be running programs that benefit from fast screen updates - then you want BootCamp. If you need BootCamp then install it and afterwards install VMWare Fusion and use the BootCamp installation rather than a virtualized disk.
If you are satisfied with the performance of virtualization there is no benefit from having BootCamp installed in terms of running VMWare. This is a disadvantage though - you have to shut down, you cannot save an instance, at least with version 1. I haven't downloaded version 2 to see if this has changed. It is much faster to resume an instance than to restart Windows and then your applications. -
Unable to boot OSX after failed Boot Camp XP installtion

I used boot camp to partion 32GB and then inserted the XP cd as requested, my iMac restarted and XP began to install, it found 'unknown volume' c: and requested a NFTS format. This was all fine, however the installtion failed and enetered a constant failed/reinstall/fix cycle, after a few hours I rebooted the machine. I am not worried about the failed XP installation;
My problem is that on boot up now it does not boot into OSX, even when rebooting whilst holding the OPT key, it finds no bootable drives and just sits a the grey screen unless I put in the XP disk, which it will to install from.
Where has my OSX partiton gone?? Help please!I've had nothing but problems with installations since 2 years ago when I got this iMac. When I had the problem before I got a new XP disc and no problems. This time I'ts not getting me into windows. There are different options when you choose to install windows: NTFS,FAT or leave partition with current files intact or something to that extent. I dont know what I should do. I tried "leave intact" and it formatted,installed windows, then went to black screen with error message saying "error reading disc". then i forced shut down the computer since it wouldnt read either keybord and the next time i choose to delete that partition(32gb) and install a fresh copy of windows on it with the "NTFS" option. same thing as before: formatted, installed, then black screen with error message saying "cant go into windows because of corrupt file "system file". This is a brand new copy of windows mind you so im a little peeved. I basically forced shut down again, and held down option and thank god it let me choose which partition to load into. im now on my mac partition. i set the startup to default to mac.

I am trying to download and install OSX Mavericks but everytime i input my Apple ID it keeps asking to review my account and then starts looking for credit card info, I do not have a credit card, also I thought OSX Mavericks was free, some help please.
Yes I know it's free, but Im trying to find out how to download it and install, but I keep getting account review and asked for CC details as I have no CC I can't get the download or install it, any help please, what i don't understand is why would I be asked for CC details if it is a free download ?? i just want to know is there anything I can do.

Need help with boot camp asap, please.
Hi, I accidently installed windows 7 without copying 3.0 boot camp files and the disk is not with me it's like in another country. Is there a way to download boot camp 3.0? cause currently I cannot go back to OS stuck on Windows. What should I do? all my stuff is on OS..help would be great, please.
You can not download the BC 3.0 drivers, they are only available from the disk.
Reboot and hold the option key down, select OSX and Read The Boot Camp Directions before you break something! -
Boot Camp Issue (Please Help, Massive Problem)
Okay here's the deal...
Installed Boot Camp fine
I'm trying to install online updates and mcafee for msn
after like 2 min a blue screen flashes and mac restarts
when windows comes back it say check hard disk
and say this is a fat 32.
then it runs through some files and says there not valid
and windows then corrects them...it puts me back to the welcome screen and i try again and the same thing happens.
Ps. dos my display have anything to do with it cuz everytime it starts up it says it detects a tv display i just close it and move on but i did make sure it wasn't on tv first
please help i need windows for a program for school thats it a working boot camp would make it a whole lot easierDid you make sure to declare you C: drive during the BootCamp setup process?

I can't Install windows via Boot Camp Assistant please Help!
My superdrive damaged so i use external dvd-rw. Boot camp assistant shows only two options and it recognise my ext dvd-rw then i partition for boot camp partition but after the partition that restarts automatically then blank screen displayed infinitely give me solution.
Also, If you have a Mac which is a UEFI model, and not in the list as shown by the BC Info.plist file, then a direct UEFI install of Windows 8 (not Windows 7) is possible and works very well.

What hard drives are compatible with OSX Snow Leopard Boot Camp?
Recently when the video card in my desktop Mac died, I decided to make some upgrades, one of them being the hard drive. After doing some research, I fixed on the Western Digital 3TB Caviar Green 3.5-Inch and had it installed at the same time as the new video card. I installed OS 10.6.8, opened up Boot Camp Assistant, set the partition sizes: 2.5 TB for my Mac side and 500 GB for the Windows. XP wouldn't install so I ordered Windows 7 and began trying to set up the Windows partition. Each time I tried, I got the same error -- Windows 7 couldn't install on the 500 GB partition since it was formatted GPT which was strange since when I looked at the partition inside of Disk Utility, it said NTFS. While troubleshooting, I came across the following:
・Mac users should know that WD's new drives do not support Boot Camp, therefore they cannot be used as a dual-boot hard drive.
・The MBR part of the hybrid partition table cannot work with 3TB hard drives. MBR is limited to 2TB.
・In a 32-bit MBR world, a disk larger than 2TB is probably invalid, and different OS's and tools react wildly differently when this is forced beyond 2TB.
I called Western Digital to confirm which of their drives were in fact compatible with Boot Camp and they replied since Boot Camp was a third-party application, they have no information on compatibility. They told me to call Apple to get the information. Before purchasing a new drive and sending back the 3TB WD, I want to be sure I know which specs to look for in a hard drive in deciding whether it is compatible with my machine. Any helpful advice or a point in the right direction would be greatly appreciated.

I had no problem installing OS X on the 3TB WD Caviar Green and WD assured me that if I wanted to install only Windows 7 on it, there would be no compatibility issues. The problem lies with wanting the drive to be dual-bootable I guess via using Boot Camp (I know of no other way to go about it). The tech at OWC (where I bought the drive) said he had never heard of any problems with being able to install both Mac and Windows OS on the drive. In fact, he gave the same reply as yours: most hard drives should be able to work perfectly fine with your Mac. It's just that I can't get XP or Windows 7 (32 bit or 64 bit) to install on the 2nd partition, making the drive I have now not dual-bootable. The tech said 2TB hard drives were different and should solve the problem but when I asked him for any discernible spec I could look for in shopping for a replacement drive, he couldn't give me one, i.e. most drives should be okay. I have paid to have the 3TB installed and will have to pay to get the drive taken out and a replacement put back in -- I want to make sure whatever drive I put in this time allows me to have 2 partitions: one for my Mac OSX system and the other for my Windows enviroment (either XP or Windows 7).
If there is a work-around not involving Boot Camp, please let me know. I thought the reason for using Boot Camp as opposed to Disk Utility to create the dual-bootable drive was the benefit of using Mac drivers on the Windows side.
If there is another way, I don't understand why PC world made this blanket statement:

Windows 8 won't work in Boot Camp, help?
I have a late 2011 MackBook Pro 15" and I have tried multiple ways to get Windows 8 on it via Boot Camp. I don't want to use a Virtual Machine because I need the dual booting ability. When I try to burn the Windows 8 .ISO 32 or 64 Bit onto the DVD Disk Utility says "unable to burn Windows8 consumer preview (not recognized)". The .ISO is from the Microsoft website so I don't understand why Disk Utility won't burn it. I burn the .ISO through Finder and when I put it in my MacBook with Boot Camp up and running, Boot Camp just tells me to insert the Windows disk. So Boot Camp won't read it. Someone please help me, I've been at this for quite a while now and I haven't had any luck.
I decided to give Windows 8 another try this morning and have installed it successfully on my 2009 MacBook Pro. It is fully functional (with audio, keyboard controls) after performing the following steps:
- Burned 64-bit Windows 8 Consumer Preview DVD at 4x
- Opened Boot Camp Assistant and created a support disc (I installed this on an external dos drive)
- Allocated around 35GB to Windows
- Restarted and performed Windows installation
- Important: Installed Windows updates (this makes the OS stable)
- Installed Boot Camp drivers from support disc
For safety, I created some restore points along the way. Before installing the updates, the system hung quite a few times and there was no sound. After the updates and boot camp drivers, everything is now working fine. Good luck with your installation. -
OSX 10.5, Boot Camp, XP, Magic Mouse, Device Mgr Code 43 error on Bluetooth
I'm running Boot Camp and XP on my MacBook Pro (OSX 10.5) and my Bluetooth has stopped working - on the Device Manager I'm getting a yellow '!' next to the "Apple Built-in Bluetooth" symbol in the Device Manager which reports that Windows has stopped the Bluetooth device because it has problems (Code 43).
This is how it happened...I had a Logitech mouse that wasn't working vey well so I bought the Magic Mouse (at enormous cost!!!). I installed it on the Mac OS no problem but when it came to run it on XP, although it could see the mouse and pair to it, when you moved the mouse the pointer on the screen wouldn't move.
I then found out about the Boot Camp 2.2 update which I installed okay. In fact this cured a problem I had had with the tab key on my wireless keyboard erroneously giving a '-' sign. However, it did not make the mouse work so I tried removing all the old Logitech software and drivers at which point Bluetooth stopped working completely giving the error described above.
Has anyone any idea how I can get this fixed? Any help much appreciated.
NigelI got this to work. I found that restarting didn't make any difference but the problem seemed to be such a low-level hardware issue that I tried switching the Mac off (and removing the battery for good measure) and then restarting XP again worked. When I did this, I got a message saying that the machine had found lots new hardware starting with the 'Microsoft BT Emulator'.
The mouse still doesn't give me all the functions I have with the Mac OS but that's fine as far as I'm concerned. -
Should I get two hard drives-1, OSX and 1, XP? (help please)
I'm configuring a Mac Pro. If I get two hard disks, can I set up one to run OSX and the other to run XP?
Does anyone know if this works and how to do it (i.e., both to install and to boot).

G5 + MacBook Mac OS X (10.4.7)Yes, you can have one drive each for Mac OS X and Windows. All you need to do is install the Boot Camp 1.1 beta and follow the setup assistant.

The trackpad drivers for Windows under Boot Camp have been terrible ever since you removed the physical button from the trackpad.
It is ridiculous to try to do serious work when clicks are often misinterpreted as right-clicks, or else right-clicks are interpreted as something else. Under Lion, I can make it work ok to hold down 2 fingers and then to a physical click with my thumb. (Awkward -- a 2nd mouse button would be way better, but it's functional). Under Boot Camp and Windows, though, it's broken. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.
I'm considering returning my MBP for this simple little thing that you should be able to fix. Usually I carry my physical mouse around with me so I can actually have a right-button, but at the moment I'm sitting in a cafe in a chair with no room for the real mouse, and hence I'm feeling unproductive as so many of my clicks turn into something else.
I bought a MBP because I like the hardware, and I use Lion for a lot of things too, but I also do serious Windows development under Visual Studio.
People have been complaining about the trackpad drivers for years. Seriously, won't you fix it? If you need a consultant to help you do the software development, let me know. I don't have time to spend myself unless you want to hire me; it will be more productive for me simply to return this laptop or buy a 2nd laptop with actual buttons on the trackpad so I can do seirous work.
Maybe you could offer a version of MBP with 2 actual physical mouse buttons instead of the built-in crappy one.... I'm sure there's demand for it, at least to the population of your customers who use these awesome quad-core monster computers for serious work instead of writing emails and watching YouTube videos.

P.P.S. Additionally, please register a similar complaint about the lack of a physical forward-delete key on the laptop. The two huge, glaring mistakes with MBP are the lack of this simple key on the keyboard and the lack of reasonable mouse button options. Fn-delete is really annoying.Just to update this post with the the same problem.
I also have the new Macbook Pro with SL and on Bootcamp XP installed. Everything
is working fine except the trackpad.
I´ve tried out the DVD the came with the origin Bootcamp (2.2 !), BC from SL-DVD
(3.0) and the brandnew Apple BC update 3.1.
Also tried to de-/reinstall, but trackpad´s still not working.

on the MP so.... I am assuming I have to keep Vista running
so the Skype phone works, Right.
And again assuming, parallels is the answer in that case

But if you must use parrarel and vista to have skype, (which I see absolutely no reason for), those two programs must be open if you are to recieve any phone calls. (I belive, never tried parallel).
If you use boot camp you need to restart your computer, start vista and start skype, before receiving any calls.
To conclude, you don't need vista (at all if you ask me) to use Skype.

2.2 is slower - for certain types of processing
